"Twistory supports Thunderbird, Google Calendar, Apple's iCal, and any other application that supports feeds using the iCalendar format. This means you can even download your Twitter posts to Microsoft Outlook or any other Web service you use to keep yourself organized. The service stays on top of your Twitter feed and adds your new tweets instantly, so it's not a one-time export that you have to repeat every time you say something new."

Would be nice for it to not be web-based. Or rather: Would be nice if someone makes some sort of script equivalent that could be run to create an ical file or something.
- Jalada
@jalada: It actually does that. Sign up and see, an iCal file is one of the output options

however it's still web-based, e.g. Twistory are trawling my tweets, rather than something I'm running myself on my machine

Hmmm well I've added the calendar feed to GCal, but nothing's showing up. It's not working for me on this end :(
- LANjackal
It's working now. Guess it took a while to import all my Tweets :)
- LANjackal
I had is for some months, but it laid a heavy load on the functioning of iCal. And I realized I never ever read them back or something. It was just cool it exists.
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
Twistory archiving of your Twitter updates to e.g. GoogleCalendar is better than nothing, though I find that the lack of back-link to the original Twitter status, as well as any links in the tweet not being clickable from the pop-up view in GCal are a major drawback. I have been importing my tweets into Tumblr (via the RSS feed), and it solves those two issues, though it's definitely...

Is there another way to sort/search my own Friendfeed (or Twitter) by date? I have Friendfeed going to Twitter, then Twistory, then Google Calendar already, but it skips some days.

Great, I wish emails can be sorted out this way.

I've been using this for a while now and overall its pretty good, but then sometimes it just randomly stops working for a day or more. Probably a symptom of being a web-based product.

yeah, the fact that he posted it to live journal in October is kind of meaningless given that you can edit an entry after the fact.

So looking through Edward's photo stream on Flickr, I see photos that were more than likely not shot by him. For instance http://www.flickr.com/photos... or http://www.flickr.com/photos... The second even says it's an AP photo in the description. All are listed with all rights reserved Copyright. Doesn't this violate Flickr's TOS?

"The coconut crab, Birgus latro, is the largest land-living arthropod in the world, and is probably at the upper limit of how big terrestrial animals with exoskeletons can become in today’s atmosphere. The species inhabits the coastal forest regions of many Indo-Pacific islands, although localized extinction has occurred where the crab is sympatric with man. Generally nocturnal, they remain hidden during the day and emerge only on some nights to forage. Their body is divided into four regions; the cephalic lobe, forepart, trunk, and opisthosoma. It is a highly apomorphic hermit crab and is known for its ability to crack coconuts with its strong pincers to eat the contents. It is the only species of the genus Birgus."

They are VERY good to eat, one of my favorite foods from our sailing trip. The only problem is I'm a lobster fan myself so I went straight for the tail. It is filled with a brown goo I called butt butter.. it tastes like smokey peanut butter mixed with saltwater. The claws are fantastic.. better than lobster!! You have to be VERY careful they can snap your fingers off . You better be careful not to overfeed those cure little hermit crabs you all have.. cause that is what you will get!!

I wonder how much coconut flavour the meat has.
- Andrew C
Not much but it does soften the meat. It's the best darn arthropod meat I have ever tasted. hmm first time I've ever used arthropod and meat in the same sentence. When you kill them (machete into the soft under belly) nothing but coconut liquid comes out (the clear stuff not the milk). Anyone ever tried a coconut apple (the foam that forms inside after a coconut starts to sprout)? yumm!

With dark, elaborate schemes lit up by antique chandeliers and candlelight, Nathan Schroder whisks us away to a far and distant land. It's natural to feel a bit disturbed in his haunted mansion; a place that is home to wild animals that we cannot tell are real or fake, and mischievous characters that look to be straight out of murder mystery novels. Nathan Schroder was born in 1973, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. His parents brought him to Texas at a young age. After studying Psychology at The University of North Texas for 3 years, his professors saw his photographic work and stressed to him it was obvious this was his passion, not psychology. "I realized later that I really was much more interested in neurology than psychology. It's how the brain works that fascinates me, not why people do the things they do."

Based on the above email it would seem that Flores' account was terminated because Flickr alleged that he was hosting photographs that were not his. But Flores tells a different story. When I contacted Flores about this issue he said, "I have been a professional freelance photographer for the last 10 years. All the content/images that were posted in my Flickr photostream were all my work, creation and intellectual property." Furthermore all photos in Flores' stream were watermarked with his own personal copyright information. It is hard for me to see how Flickr could make a mistake of deciding that these photos did not belong to Flores.

I still find it unbelievable in this day and age of blogging, Twitter, FF and instant communication (and distribution) of such poor customer service stories that Flickr/Yahoo continue to hide behind their wall of silence. Any other "brick & mortar" store would have long closed for business (or been sued) with such behavior. At least in a store you can physically speak to someone, and not have these e-mail bots or anonymous CS censors.
- Nils Sandin
This is just ridiculous. Flickr is seriously sucking and is currently making ANY other service look better. ;)
- Travis Koger
Calm down, Andrew. Your service Zooomr isn't exactly the shiniest around. My advice is to put some more time on getting Zooomr back on the road and stop bitching about Flickr all the time. It's getting boring.
- Rutger Blom
@Rutger, do you actually think that this post has anything to do with Zooomr?
- Travis Koger
@Travis, no. did I indicate that? I'm just tired of Andrew picking on Flickr all the time. It's like he is obsessed with it. I think he is out of line especially as he is the CEO of Zooomr.
- Rutger Blom
from email
@Rutger, Censorship and photographer's rights, generally, is an obsession with TH as far as I have seen. I have no problem with him paying out on flickr for this type of activity. It happens too often and something needs to be done about it. As for being CEO of Zooomr, I cannot recall the last time TH actually referred to Zooomr since 'the incident' and when Zooomr moved to Japan.
- Travis Koger
@Travis, what do you really know about those cases where Flickr accounts were being closed more than Andrew's assumptions? Don't you even for a minute consider the possibility that something more is involved?
- Rutger Blom
@Rutger, I absolutely think about it. I have no problem with flickr enforcing their rules as per their T&Cs and in the cases where it is justified, fully support them... seriously. However from what I have seen, and guaranteed I have not seen it all, the flickr enforcers have done this too many times where it has been in error and their procedures and application functions makes it...

Re the Zooomr about profile, check out the last time that was updated. If TH is still involved in a capacity there, fine. However I am really talking about the last time TH actually pushed Zooomr. I know that pre 'the incident' and the move he was all about flickr sucks, move to Zooomr, but I haven't seen that type of post in a very long time.
- Travis Koger
Rutger, re: Zooomr, it's sort of on autopilot at this point unfortunately. I had much larger plans for it originally as a way for photographers to enter into the stock photography market where the photographers actually got the bulk of the money but Kristopher and I had a difference of opinion about the future direction, he moved to Japan and I haven't talked to him in months. By the way, I do think that one thing that the whole Zooomr experience has taught me is how absolute a hold and a monopoly Flickr has on the photosharing community as a whole. For better or for worse, Flickr is it. Because they could care less if they lose customers or not at this point they treat them very poorly. From censorship to deleting accounts to not responding to email...

Is there any group on Flickr where this is discussed yet?
- gwendolen
There are lots of protests groups on Flickr gwendolen. They usually just end up mocked by flickr. We usually talk about these cases in DMU every time they come up. Here's the thread on this case there this time: http://www.flickr.com/groups...
- Thomas Hawk
Many of these cases also frequently show up in the Flickr Help forum as well, but Flickr usually locks the threads there as fast as they can in order to try and silence those who might be critical. In this case Flores posted in the Help Forum twice and both of the threads he posted in were locked by Flickr Staff.
- Thomas Hawk
I'm physically very far away from Flickr and their staff so I can't say anything about them, but the network in general feels very static and I certainly do not feel that warm welcome family feeling at Flickr as I feel on SmugMug. Flickr feels like an authority you shouldn't mess with. That said, it is the Flickr members that make the service. The social part of Flickr is still unique and can't be found anywhere else.

It's like Hot Tuna's no audio/taping policy...when are these people gonna get it?...They might be able to stop it for now but eventually the equipment is going to get so good they can't step it...
- Tyler Sid
the thing that bums me out is that if you are going to have a no photography policy, you should make that information available both on your website and also at the ticket box office. Seems to me that they'd rather not discourage people from visiting with an unfriendly no photo policy but are more than happy to deny you that once your inside and have shelled out your money. Of course today was supposed to be a free family day too but apparently free means $18 to these folks.
- Thomas Hawk
And this bad publicity for them.. is gonna be more than $18 !! on a bettter note... did the kids have a good time?
- Rob Sellen :o)
actually the kids didn't really like it inside. They were bored and kept wanting to leave. They had a croquet set up outside though and my oldest son and I Jack played croquet there and he liked that part. They didn't want to stay very long after that though and wanted to get home so we left.
- Thomas Hawk
I was pretty bummed inside carrying my camera around and not being able to use it though so some of my negativity might have rubbed off on them.
- Thomas Hawk
aw well.. at least you know where to NOT take them next time ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
I can't understand why Dunsmuir would ban photography (unless it's flash photography of fragile objects). I agree with you that the policy should be clearly stated on all publicity (web, answering machine, ticket office, fliers).
- Spidra Webster
exactly, Rob, and so will a lot more people now that this report shows up on on the first page Google search results for "Dunsmuir Estate." At least other photographers won't be blindsided by their no photography policy going forward. I hope they change that though.
- Thomas Hawk
Spidra, it's typical proprietary BS. They dump you off at the end of the tour in their gift shop. They'd rather you buy their photos than take your own. It's too bad though because it's an interesting old house and I think a good strong set of images profiling their property on say Flickr would be good promotion for them, especially since they rent the house out for weddings and people considering that could get a better idea what the place was like that way.
- Thomas Hawk
They will learn the hard way now lol ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Yeah, that was the only reason I could figure. I haven't managed to get to the Dunsmuir in 20 years of living in the Bay Area. Wasn't sure how many postcards & books they had to flog. Still, every time I go to a museum, even major ones, they don't have pictures of the things I liked the most.
- Spidra Webster
The good news is that lots of museums are in fact coming around. More and more are opening up their permanent collections and liberalizing their photo policies. You used to not be able to take photos at the SFMOMA, now you can.
- Thomas Hawk
Spidra, I agree on that for sure. It means so much more to me to be able to shoot exactly what I see and what I want, and how I see it, than to buy somebody else's postcard in the gift shop. It's a far more meaningful experience and I probably wouldn't even have been put off as much by the bait and switch admission thing if I at least could have gotten that out of it.
- Thomas Hawk
So if you have a wedding there, are you not allowed photos of your wedding?
- Tristan Seligmann
Tristan, I'm sure you are. I can't imagine they'd prohibit that. But then again, who knows. Maybe they insist on it being their photographer or something and it's another way to extract more money out of people.
- Thomas Hawk
You know another interesting thing that I thought was funny about the whole thing was that on the tour they tell you that all the paintings are on loan from the Oakland Museum of California. Of course the Oakland Museum of California is a museum that allows photography.
- Thomas Hawk
I hope that this incident persuades them to change their no photo policy. Seems ridiculous to not allow it especially since they could not provide any valid reason for it. I'm also curious to hear their response to you being chared $18 on a 'Free' day.
- Jeff P. Henderson
The house looks beautiful from the outside. Seems like if they are strapped for cash, as most non profits are these days, that they would go out of their way to be nice to patrons. If I attended a Free event and really enjoyed the experience, I would consider giving them a donation, buying a membership or at least visiting again on a regular admission day.
- Jeff P. Henderson
So if they rent out the house for weddings, do they still have a no photography policy? Seems unlikely and quite arbitrary! (Sorry for the dupe comment, hadn't read Tristan's comment yet before posting.)
- Jeff P. Henderson
At least you paying the $18 has been beneficial to everyone else in that you have exposed another silly product of merchandization (is that a word ;)). Looking forward to seeing how this one will pan out. I HATE gift shops at the end of a tour and whilst I am happy to donate to to these types of institutions I would never 'donate' to gift shops as they should not be encouraged.

One of our cats likes to pee in sinks... directly into the drain, though. I have mixed feelings about that :P

On hot days one of our cats would sneak into the neighbor's house through their cat door, and sleep in their sink. She never slept in our sink, only theirs. Fortunately the cats in that neighborhood seemed to get along, they never had a territorial fight in the neighbor's house.

We have a Persian Angora cat, and it made a Pomeranian bleed, true story. My wife picked him up from the groomers, while leaving she heard this loud noise from the carrier. She looked in the carrier, and two sets of eyes were looking back. She went back in and opened the cage. Our cat came out, and then the Pomeranian limped out with a bleeding cut over his eye. The Pomeranian belonged to the groomer. She said he's always doing this, maybe he learned his lesson.
