"“I want them to have a fair shake, to get a job on their merits and not because they’re Hispanic or they fill a quota,” he said. “What a lousy way to live.”"

"John Barrowman has blasted BBC bosses for cutting back his Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. The new series of the sci-fi hit will have only five episodes, spread over a week, instead of the usual 13"

"As an aside, regular readers may recall that in his speech News Ltd boss John Hartigan took Mumbrella to task for our use of the phrase “never wrong for long”. Funnily enough, one of the times it was deployed was after a reader pointed out a typo - we’d also spelled the word as newpapers. But that’s the difference between newspapers and online. With newspapers, you’re wrong forever."

Saw them a few years back when they were touring for The Spine tour. I wished they did some of the material off of their first album (my favorite)
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I saw them live when they toured Aus in the 90s, it was awesome. I first heard them with the Flood album, so that one still holds a place in my heart :)

"Its key finding is that substantiated child abuse cases in the indigenous community more than doubled from 16 per 1000 children in 19990-2000 to 35 per 1000 children in 2007-08. In the same period abuse cases among non-indigenous children increased from five per 1000 to 6 per 1000. The figures suggest indigenous children are six times more likely to be abused or neglected than non-indigenous children in 2007-08."

Those who know me know I'm not much of a 'The Government must do something' kind of guy, but seriously, if these kids aren't protected NOW the state & federal governments are guilty of horrendous neglect & discrimination

"Apart from ethnic Iranians, there has hardly been a single demonstration in any Western capital in support of the Iranian democrats. Yet isn't there a class, in Australia and in the rest of the West, of people deeply concerned about human rights? The class that Robert Manne and Judith Brett call the moral middle class? Weren't there thousands of demonstrators against the World Trade Organisation and G20 meetings in Australia because the global economy allegedly repressed the rights of poor people? What about the groups explicitly dedicated to human rights? In the twilight struggle against the communist empire, human rights groups played an honourable and at times indispensable role in gaining freedom for the likes of Soviet dissidents Andrei Sakharov, Natan Sharansky and countless others. It was a tremendous consolation to these dissidents when a US president, or indeed a humble human rights group, campaigned on their behalf."
