After a very successful trial on TWiT Live this evening I'm seriously considering dropping Skype for Oovoo on TWiT. http://www.oovoo.com
Very keen on trying it myself, but really I'm so tired of yet another client for yet another communications medium - Aleksandras Skrynikovas from twhirl
What is it you liked about oovoo, compared to Skype? (said the editor of Skype Journal) - Phil Wolff from Alert Thingy
Leo, what is it that you think Oovoo can bring more in value than skype? - Aleksandras Skrynikovas from twhirl
Wondering if the T1 might skew anything here - Michael W. May from twhirl
i gave oovoo a try for at least 4 times over the past year and everytime deinstalled it again - main reason? quality is worse then in skype "bad times" - Dieter Schwarz from Alert Thingy
I need something that can do video with multiple panelists, and the quality I was getting, even with six people in a conference, was very good. I'm definitely going to use it for listener calls. Skype keeps popping up windows and stutters every time it does whenever I use it for listener cals. We'll see if it's good enough for host audio, though. - Leo Laporte
I was about to say Windows only then noticed they're finally offering a Mac version. checking it out now - Duncan Riley
and then I did check it out only to find the Mac version doesn't offer recording. Oh well. - Duncan Riley
For some reason or another, they are only offering the pay "options" for windows? Thought you mac users might want to know that. May just be limited for the time being? - Tony C.
what's wrong with skype ? why are you contemplating dropping it ? - Murali
Shame the Mac version is so much behind... - Gerard van Schip
This is great. I was just looking for another incomptiable video phone app. Will this work with Skype or VoIP? - John Cooper
Leo, you need to keep "some" consistency; that may be more important (to holding on to your exisiting & new audience) than the continual "search" for the best software client. I just joined Skype, "because you use it". Listen to the comments above, and work w/ Skype, if you can....just my humble opinion; the same thing is happening w/ the "social network" clients; I can't keep joining... more... - mark dekruyter
While we're at it, I love TWiT, but it is soooooo looongg. You should keep it moving with an outline like McLaughlin. - Dino
Can't wait to see the TWiT panel this sunday all using ooVoo. That would be the ideal setup IMO. - Danny M
I agree on length. I have trouble fitting podcasts into my listening schedule if they are over 45 min. - Kreg Steppe from twhirl
I think the audio quality is a little better on Skype, but oovoo has a better featureset and the Skype client keeps getting worse every version. Skype definitely needs some competition. - Neil
@duncanriley First thing I noticed about ooVoo was the ability to record video, but then it's Windows-only. Deal killer. - Daniel Shaw
@Neil Agreed, competition, and therefore innovation, in this space is good. - Daniel Shaw
@mark_d If you're making buying decisions based on Leo's flavor of the month, you're going to go crazy and/or broke soon. As a tech industry insider/reporter/whatever, it's Leo's job to try these things. Plus, what did it cost you to join Skype anyway? 5 minutes of your time? - Daniel Shaw
@daniel shaw You are so right; I assumed that someone would point out the weakness in my post; I do realize (now) that it's part of Leo's and others "scope of work" to try these things out, for whatever reasons...thxs. - mark dekruyter
I think for $50 a year you can not beat Skype Pro. It also had great plug-in support. I'm not ready to move on yet... - Brad
Love Ooovoo. And BTW, I've used it on Mac. - Cartfly

hmmm... I wonder who the dancing queen could be? Could she be Amber? Only way to find out is listen to the podcast. :D - Danny M

Have you Ever Owned any Apple Products? http://xrl.us/bmt5k
yes; better question would perhaps be who has ever owned an Apple product not named iPod. That would make for a true Apple product user. - JA Castillo
I have an Apple IIgs Woz edition in the original boxes in my basement. - Jon from twhirl
Once owned a Lisa - Brian Sullivan
Loved my Newton, used a Mac back in the day when the software I wanted to run my salon only came on a Mac. Use PC now for pretty much the same reason. - Aura Mae
I still have a grape iMac, a G4 tower (dual 500 MHz), and a "Power Macintosh Racing" t-shirt. I had a six-color apple logo coffee mug, but I think my wife hid it. - ha3rvey (wants confit)
Shelled out $3k for a desktop and another $3k for a laptop many many years ago - got tired to walking into software stores and having trouble finding the half-rack of mac software (like I said many, many years ago) - Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Apple IIc, PowerMac 8100 and back again now with a MBPro 17" and 20" iMac - Jeremy Hall
I can't believe I forgot my PowerPC 6100 (with the "illegal" AV mod) - ha3rvey (wants confit)
Yep. 1st and 2nd gen iPods, an iBook, and now an iPhone. Later this year, I plan on picking up a 17" MacBook Pro. - Akiva Moskovitz
Tons... including a Newton 2000! - Daniel Shaw
I bought my first Apple product (eMac) shortly after OS X came to market. Several Apple products later (Powerbook, Macbook, iMac, ipods, etc.) and I haven't looked back. I've even stopped using MS Office and started using Open Office / Neo Office. - Ben Vaughan from twhirl
iPod (several), iPhone, iMac, MacBook Pro, Airport Extreme, Airport Express.... - Jeremy Brooks
The new iphone 3G would be my first one. So excited. :D...via feedalizr - Danny M
Welcome to the club, Danny. ONE OF US. ONE OF US. - Akiva Moskovitz
First one I ever used was a G5. Currently i use a MacBook Pro 15", Airport, Time Capsule and a 4 Gig Nano. Uber-anxious to buy an iPhone, waiting for the 3G to be out. - Parth Awasthi

Post WWDC follow-up: Are you going to get the $199 iPhone 3G or the $299 iPhone 3G in white?
Very tempted to get a $199 iPhone now!! $299 one is even *more* tempting with 16GB storage - Susan Beebe
I haven't run into problems with my 8G iPhone either, however, I'm not loading apps on it. The apps will use space to store their stuff. I think the 16G for me. - awilliams from twhirl
the $199 one - don't tell my wife - Noah Carter
16gb in black i shall acquire, hopefully. - John Milner
Will it have a vid camera? - Admiral70
Why can't we have a $299 iPhone in black? What's the point of this limitation? - Mohamed J
while its tempting...the price...the features...im still a believer in ze ANDROID :P now digg me down :P - Chris Hofmann
Black, so I won't see minor blemishes and scratches as much as a white. - Mike Reynolds
I'm ready to buy the $199 now. But since I have to wait a month til July 11, it will give me more time to save enough to buy the $299, Sweet! - Danny M
I'd get the $299 phone; not sure about which color - Albert Willis
I'm not sure I'm going to get either. Even for $199, I'm not sure if it is compelling enough to upgrade from my current iPhone. - Andy Roth
seems like all those people who were worried about the cheap price ruining some of the exclusiveness of the device will opt for the white one :) - MG Siegler
I'll get the 16gb model in magenta. OK, just kidding. The 16gb in black. - Mike Reynolds
16GB iPhone 3G in black FTW! - Joe D'Andrea
it's always best to buy the biggest storage capacity you can afford... - Charles Hudson
No :) - Adam Lasnik
Louis Gray
Hey Apple, What Am I Supposed to Do With My Old iPhone? - http://www.youhavetobekiddingme.com/2008...
Good point. I would LOVE if there was some sort of swap discount, where they could sell your phone refurbed or something. - Andrew Dobrow
someone should collect them for a high school dev center - they are still useful as dev test devices - bear (aka Mike Taylor)
nothing like a $400.00 or $500.00 disposable phone eh - Steven Hodson
Coaster - MG Siegler
use it as a vnc remote control! - shinchi from twhirl
because it was shiny ;) - David Petar Novakovic from twhirl
that should be: suckers who bought a 2G brick because it was shiny ;) - David Petar Novakovic from twhirl
Family member gift, like all my not-quite-old-but-not-used computer equipment. - Bret Taylor
Here's a thought: Keep using it. I know....radical thinking. - Bwana ☠ from fftogo
I agree with bwana. Keep using your iphone. The only big difference is like 30 seconds less loading time on the browser - Anthony
as a matter of fact it would cost you the 199/299 plus 120 dollars extra a year service charges plus a long day at the apple store that you could spend complaining about the iphone with me on FF - Anthony
@Bwana shame on you for suggesting something so sensible after all how's His Jobness suppose to advance the power of Apple if such talk discourages the emptying of wallets .. Moshe gonna be on your ass in the morning :) - Steven Hodson
plus activation - Anthony
plus the "im steve jobs so give me money" fee... - Anthony
Oooh, the iPhone->iPod idea sounds great. Sign me up for that. - Don MacAskill
My plan is to make the current iPhone the jail-broken one and use the new one with my current AT&T sim - bear (aka Mike Taylor)
I'm going to frame mine. And worship it. - Richard
send it too the third world - Brad Stevens from twhirl
your 1st gen iphone is now reduced to an ipod touch. it's not worth having 2 phones and both are at&t isn't it? - Danny M from twhirl
I offer to buy your fully functional iPhone for 70 dollars. :) There you have it, suckers! *g* (They said that you could trade in the old iPhones for 200 bucks. I wonder what Apple will do with all these old iPhones, after all.) - sebmos
What's the matter with giving it as gift to a family member? - Francine Hardaway
So there are actually people, on this post, who own the 1st gen iphones, and are going to get a 3G iphone. If so, i guess i just want to take this time to tell you that you are now officially a slave to trends. Who fuckin cares that its only 2 hundred bucks, that new iphone is a slap in the face with no video support - Anthony
You don't hear Blackberry users whine when some faster, slimmer, curvier or bolder one comes out - you keep on using it until it dies or the plan runs out - Sally Church
Well, how about not buying a new iPhone in the first place? I generally try to avoid updating my hardware until it's too late, which is why I still have a fifth generation iPod video. Now excuse me, I've got to fix one of my punchcard computers. :P - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Just like the last iteration was a slap in the face with no 3G or GPS or MMS or ..or..or? Yet it sold millions. Apple knows this stuff better than we do. - Bwana ☠
Yeah, liked that posted by Robert and I think he should adopt the (D) choice i.e. send me that old stinin' iphone :) - directeur
You sell it to me for 50 bucks of course! - Mike Lewis

What will you do if Apple doesn't release the new iPhone tomorrow?
Continue waiting for Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - Svartling
Proceed to tell the entire internet, one by one, I TOLD YOU SO! Stop believing rumors and set expectations LOW! Then I'll get a cookie - Bwana ☠
Keep using my crappy AT&T Tilt, I suppose - Seth Long
I will laugh. - Devin Anderson
waiting for a Google Android - Lode Nachtergaele
I wasn't planning on getting an iPhone anyway, so it'll be of no consequence to me. - Morton Fox
CRY! - Kat
Keep on waiting for the Blackberry Bold. Even if they do release a new iPhone tomorrow... - Blake
I'm going to be majorly bummed and a little disgusted. It's hard to get it up for Apple rah rah if they don't deliver. These long drawn out things get old after awhile. - Janet Tokerud
i will cry. well, not really. - Outsanity
They cannot not release it tomorrow. Apple doesn't care about short time stock prices (which will drop like a brick if he doesn't), but Apples main advantage is they have all the gadget and geeky blogs talking about it, Apple isn't going to leave that. If steve wasn't planning to showcase or release it, he is now, promise! ;) - Ashley Williams from Alert Thingy
There are so many good phones just around the corner, the htc diamond, xperia x1, blackberry bold.. and hopefully a new iphone - Phil G
I'll start looking for deals on an N95 or a Bold. Same if the new iPhone doesn't shoot video. - Andy Sternberg
The question is if the new iPhone is limited to the 384kbps speed of 3G. What we all need is the new HSDPA speed of 3mbps or even better. - Danny M from Alert Thingy
