Seesmic, Friendfeed and Twitter next to each other in a test version of Twhirl. Adding tons of Friendfeed experience improvements in there, Marco rocks.
Is twitter's api actually back up at 50 req/hr?
- Shawn Farner
The old Twhirl works for me in linux for me, it just won't remember my password.
- Daniel E. Renfer
from twhirl
Yes Marco does. Twhirl is becoming my info hub. And if Twitter dies, who cares I'm sure Pownce, Jaiku or whatever could be swapped in

Open toed sandals, now where did I put my white socks..come to think of it my Gorilla costume..BTW are they comfortable?, strangly I reckon they could be, if your'e into climbing/surfing etc, might be able to do some pretty fancy footwork...
- Jason
@paul I bought mine at Transports in Berkeley. That's the only place in the bay area that sells them I think.
- Biao
I just saw someone walking around with them a few days ago. Looks pretty strange on the foot.
- Amit Morson
@Yan haha Berkeley would be the only place to buy something like this
- Danish Khan
from twhirl
@Danish hah! i get your point but i really do wish they sold them elsewhere so i wouldn't have had to drive that far. that said, i really love my ksos so far.
- Biao
Are these the new Crocs? Highly unlikely.
- Elias Torres
I'm sad to see they don't make a model for those of us with webbed toes, or for those whose second toe is bigger than their first....
- Erin "Wifey" Johns
Can't sleep, was up doing crosswords, then I smelled a fire, then there was choking eye-burning smoke, then sirens. There's a fire in the neighborhood, somewhere. Not very close judging by the sirens. But the smell is awful.
It's not that close but it must be big because of the stink.
- Dave Winer
Problem is I have to be up in 3 hours to drive from here to Salt Lake City! Thinking maybe I should just take a shower drink some coffee and go now.
- Dave Winer
Sucks almost scared me when I read it, but if I can't smell it near UCB I figure I'm alright too. Sucks that the smoke is affecting you though.
- Danish Khan
Is something 'good' happening in SLC? (from slc)
- Randal
Wow. Well, you never know - it says "Entertain your friends ;)" on there - but this may turn out to be a great example of the art of selling your ideas to investors who dont really know better. I.E. not really a market affirmation.
- Andrew Baron
we throw this bubble term around too much, until i see everyone working only in social media and not in other trades i call bs on that. Oh wait I just went to the site, uh err ;)
- adolfo foronda
Definitely scary given the lack of monetization in such services. Sure, entertainment can be a real business - but the company should know how to turn it into one.
- Svetlana Gladkova
Doom! Dooooooooom, I say! Congrats, looks like you'll have a paycheck for a while.
- JD Lasica
I can't figure out what compelled them to combine video and products...
- Brady Brim-DeForest
Hi Robert, could not find it in Techmeme, who did they raise from? Interesting...
- Loic Le Meur
being in a bubble and seeing companies over funded is totally different. startup overdosis will calm over time. but there is no industry collapse ahead. ad dollars, ecommerce and internet penetration are progressing. so for me no worries
- Ouriel Ohayon
Loic: I'm not sure. I got this on Google Reader.
- Robert Scoble
haha, wow funny that I found out about the funding through friendfeed first seeing as I know a good amount of the people at that company
- Danish Khan
from twhirl
Well let's see, property and stock markets are down in many countries and there is constant talk of a world economic slowdown. If the tech sector isn't in the same situation, all this is bound to have some flow-on effect sooner rather than later. No, I don't think there is a bubble.
- jjprojects
jj: yes, but there are still a lot of companies who have funding that the overall market will not reward. I think there's a bit of a bubble in that there's a lot of people who have gotten funded by VC firms who haven't yet felt the more general economic pain that's out there.
- Robert Scoble
Amazing....We have a solution that fits perfectly in the current economic situation and these guys get 8 million?
- Brad Nickel
Of course we are in a bubble. that's the way our economy works now. The reason is that we have too many unregulated speculators in the markets today.
- Bob Blunk
I would call this "statistical occurrence." It is pure statistics, not a bubble. There are many samples of similar nature which occur. The higher the size of the sample (overcrowded online entertainment market) the more likely is the occurrence of a highly-improbable event. Funding such a startup as redux would otherwise be improbable. good thing about stats is that 90+% of it is there to support the few.

Kevin! You pick the one time I wasn't sitting at my computer. :( But honestly, I wanted your old one... signed. I already got my 3G iphone. SIGH.
- Lise
Oh darn I wish I saw this earlier... I would have used that iPhone to take pictures of myself and send them to you.
- Colette
Ahahahah... ok I get it now. Quick, someone Digg Kevin's tweet and then we can all laugh at how lame twitter is when it buckles under the load of a Digging!
- Paul Short
I would have made them stand in the corner and think about what they've done, but I guess I'm just old-fashioned like that.
- Daniel Smith
from twhirl
Im confused about this. For instance, I've noticed on many occasions where you basically say something like: "Come follow me over on FF, the conversation is over there". Isnt that the same thing? Trying to get people to come follow you? I dont mean to be critical, just trying to understand.
- Andrew Baron
:D I unblocked him just to verify, and yes it was him!!
- directeur
from NoiseRiver
Somewhat relatedly, it's weird that I didn't think twice when Louis Gray asked us to digg a story for him. But in hindsight if it wasn't someone I knew, I would've considered it spamming/gaming digg. Interesting.
- trextor
He needs another pole to broadcast actually, he won't participate in the discussions. I hate this kind of mentality.
- directeur
from NoiseRiver
Andrew I don't remember ever asking you to follow me. If I ever do, yes, that should earn me a block. There is a big difference between saying "here is a conversation" and "follow me."
- Robert Scoble
Kevin pissed off the Friendfeed hall monitors. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
directeur: exactly. This is my way of helping retard Twitter-style noise here.
- Robert Scoble
LOL, I just submitted his tweet to Digg.
- Paul Short
trextor: agreed. That is interesting to watch.
- Robert Scoble
Aaron: you are always experimenting with my block button. I will call you director of block R&D. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Robert, right. I blocked him before because of this actually. Look at his digg page for example. He submitted only 374 news on Digg ang got 364 popular. I don't know if we see the same thing, but it looks _wrong_ for me.
- directeur
from NoiseRiver
Robert: I'm directeur! Don't mess with my brand ;-) Aaron is just Aaron! And please follow me! oh wait, you're already following me! :)
- directeur
from NoiseRiver
I've seen a few people post follow me messages. I'm here to follow not be followed

I just blocked someone for being a total asshole. Can dish it but can't take it. Know what I mean?
- Dennis Howlett
from twhirl
What I don't like is all of his fan base coming over here not even knowing how to use ff, or caring to use ff, but just adding him simply because they like him. Sigh... I was back and forth on the reason you were blocking him, but I completely understand now.
- Dennis Jackson
from twhirl
I'm yet to block anyone. I think I just like being annoyed.

Netvibes, then launch Netnewswire or FeedDemon depending on whether I'm on my Mac or PC. Netvibes looks like it will be replaced by Feedly tho.
- Angel Smith
friendfeed. then my own blog stats, reader. great question!
- washwords
from twhirl
I usually hit VentureBeat then Silicon Valley Insider, followed by Twitter and FF which usually leads me to the usual suspects (e.g. Techmeme, Mashable, etc.)
- James
I typically check Mister Elisha Gray's electro-harmonic telautograph, and then I carefully peruse the paper tape that the stock ticker has left on the floor. The price of tin has become exceedingly volatile of late, for reasons unbeknownst to me, and it behooves me to stay abreast of prices of the metal.
- Karim
I would say Google Reader. But it is becoming Twhirl to check in with Twitter & FriendFeed quite often.
- Sean Brady

FriendFeed, (techmeme tab sometimes); then twitter, then gReader
- Susan Beebe

- felix
FriendFeed, and Google Reader, themTwitter
- Mário Pires
So Steve - if you go to tm first, then you are always visiting the same batch of sites - do you ever go for discovery of new ideas or opinions on the same news?

great job loic and the twhirl team!!

This caused me to dump alert thingy even though there are differences. Always liked Twhirl too bad it has picked up some hiccups from Twitter which is already the meme of legend in these parts...
- Mark Forman
I'm in! This will def cause me to use friend feed more.

Comments inline work well, but make it hard to keep a track of whats going on. I guess thats more of a FF issue tho, nested conversations are much more complex than the flat twitterlike comments.
- Steve Mactaggart

I guess I'm getting used to it - without doubt, it's an improvement, thnx Loic and Marco

still trying to get my head around friend feed in twhirl....
- djp

Still not like the interface. Still not see the reason why we need a specific app for friendfeed. Some stuff could be sorted via a easy firefox extension e.g. notification.
- Benjamin Kohler
from twhirl
I'm not sure about this, but my main concern.. why does my FF feed in Twhirl look almost completely different than what I see on the web? Am I the only one seeing this?
- felix
Love the new changes - a few issues still with the commenting. It remembers the past comment when I write a new one instead of clearing the box, and it also clears out my comment box every time the feed refreshes.

Morgan: I just need a pitch. I only have a few slots a month, August is being planned now. It's easier if you come to San Francisco, or are here already, but I'll be traveling around quite a bit this year (trips to Seattle, Washington DC, Los Angeles, New York, China, Amsterdam, Boston, Paris are already on my board. So, why should you be on?
- Robert Scoble
Salt Lake City? Right now I don't have any plans, sorry. Can you come out to SF?
- Robert Scoble
Hey Robert, This sounds really interesting. I am in the midst of launching my startup and we would like to work with you on Fast Company TV. What are the next steps. btw the site is Mugasha.com

I will be in San Fran June 13 - 22 and would like to grab lunch
- Akshay Dodeja

Oh, that is cutting it close. You'll probably make it, but that's within the golden hour, so that's tough. Do you need to return a car? Or do you just want us to drop you off?

- Jesse Stay
from twhirl
hey robert - thanks for the response. you should have us on because we're a small company making tons of online video for a wide range of businesses with a new video ad format and real revenue to boot. i'll email you at the above. we're in SF which is nice.
