I don't get your hostility to me, or what it is based on. Show me where I say journalism is dying. Can you? I don't think you're actually looking at what I have written or said. I think you are using me as a symbol of something you don't like about the drift of headlines and attitudes without asking if I am really responsible for those headlines and attitudes. But if I am please tell me what I have done to deserve this hostility and what I can do to no longer be so deserving. - Jay Rosen

oh jay, i don't intend any hostility towards you, quite the contrary. that's why i call you a respected friend. you and jeff are valued and necessary voices advancing the conversation and you highlight good work and give thoughtful and constructive criticism. i also didn't intend to imply that you're responsible and am sorry you got that impression. i hope you will agree with me that the industry is flogging itself, and while there certainly room for improvement, my aim is to point out that journalism has given a lot back to the Internet culture. you and jeff are among the group that consistently recognizes, validates and encourages this work. good thing we have commenting mechanisms to clear up these things. - David Johnson from email

I think you should carry forward what was obviously a critique and show me where I have provided the fuel to the "journalism is dying" meme, show me where I have failed to respect the news media's own hackers (I do a radio show with one, you know, Dave Winer and we frequently talk about the progress being made) and show me what I have done to earn this kind of treatment: where I am summed up as a "basher" of journalism. - Jay Rosen

Jay, since I've been in the ranting, bashing and media criticsm business for a decade myself, I don't think of it as a sign of disrespect at all. I can't give give you what you're asking for because it isn't my point or purpose or perspective.
