Nokia expanding share in the US is not an "if". They have the assets and the global presence to go buy market share.

agree, and seeing more focus from NOK on US with CEO spending lots of time at various events around country and presumably operator meetings. E71 rumored on the way from AT&T. guessing e63 will hit soon, and hopefully US operators will pick up N79, N85. While low end is nice for market share traction, high end is where mind share is gained, and even though Nokia ships about 100M S60 phones annually, landscape is shifting, and one of the reasons working on things like OVI, open sourcing Symbian, etc.

lots of discussion online about Windows Mobile (just reported 20M sales in 2008) and its ability to compete with iPhone, Android, and even the Palm webOS moving forward. Matt Miller @ ZDNET has an interesting take http://blogs.zdnet.com/cell-ph...

Scoble is arguing the operators are lining up behind operating systems in the US, but once iPhone and Palm Pre device exclusives are up, and the next rev of Android based devices arrives later this year, the operating systems will be available on more than one network, so don't necessarily buy that; but he does raise question on MSFT & Nokia that is part of the current online discussion in this emerging world of hot open mobile OSs. http://tinyurl.com/8mopn2

Two years ago there was no iPhone or Android, but now they are hot platforms to build for even though market share isn't on level of Symbian or Windows Mobile...but clearly iPhone growing rapidly. Based on today's demonstration, if Palm gets Pre into market quickly, and gets GSM too, and webOS offers great dev tools w/ distribution, it's a strong candidate. We are prioritizing BlackBerry, iPhone and Android ahead of Pre at this point.

two posts to add to this thread: 1) from a guy who doesn't think Palm will make a comeback with Pre to support comment by christian above http://tinyurl.com/7mz7tt 2) based on early developer feedback to Palm webOS and opportunities. http://tinyurl.com/89mk3z
