the ideology is hugely influencial (say commercial/proprietary vs. open source) people just don't always care about it.

@gsiemens the ideology of OSS informs the advantages that make OSS attractive. it responds to people rather than money
@funnymonkey sure bill. but, generally speaking, the majority of people are convinced by the advantages of OSS not the ideology.
@gsiemens or even understand it outside of the jingoism.
I've been installing open source software for projects for 7 or 8 years. very rarely have i found someone who cared about ideology of OSS
