"It's good that you feel suitably embarrassed. But stop making excuses. Lack of sleep, thought they were prime numbers, yadda yadda. Sometimes people just make stupid mistakes. I know I do. I just rarely get to make one in front of tens of thousands of people."

"If the diagram had been entitled "Diagram of the *absolute* left vs the *absolute * right", or "Diagram demonstrating the antitheses of left & right extremist ideals", or something along those lines, they might have been able to get away with it. I think that the information - stereotypical or not - is still beautifully presented. Though I guess that's the point of the website, looking at the URL..."

"Yes, this graph is stereotypes the two sides, but if you look at the description on the [site this is taken from](http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/2009...): > A concept-map exploring the Left vs Right political spectrum. A collaboration between David McCandless and information artist Stefanie Posavec, taken from my book The Visual Miscellaneum (out Nov 10th). > > Of course, the political spectrum is not quite so polarised. Actually, it’s more of a diamond shape, apparently. But this is how it’s mostly presented via the media – left wing vs. right wing, liberal vs. conservative, Labour vs Tory. And perhaps in our minds too… So at least they're aware of it, and not trying to pass this off as a hard-and-fast referral chart. Personally, I think it's a pretty graph, but the information is so black and white that it's essentially worthless."
