Newspapers are trying to find a model for making money online, but they’re not learning fast enough, not adapting fast enough. Online ads can’t support them, because now the monopoly for publishing news and commentary has been broken, and advertising has been spread out among thousands and thousands of sites. How can the newspaper industry adapt? Well, they’ll either have to figure that out quickly, or they’ll die.

thanx for the answers @khrisloux & @GuysReplies. For @khrisloux question; A simple filter function to filter out posts with terms/words would pretty much do it i believe. What do you reckon? ... Well, it seem like more than 90% of all the comments on your post are retweets or Fwd's of your same blogpost :) This seem to be a pretty relevant issue. How do you get around that? Are the any filtering system to filter all RT's and Fwd's out?

Let me tell you about how I love Amazon. I placed my order with Amazon Fresh for groceries last night at about 9:45PM. I woke up at 5:00AM to find all of my groceries on my porch. Awesome.

Tyson and pea, you have a choice of either having them come back within 48 hours to pick them up, or you keeping them until your next order (and doing whatever you want with them in the meantime) at which time they swap them out with your new items. I have them come pick them up since we don't have much storage space or use for them.

There are also other two major grocery stores (Albertsons and Safeway) that deliver here, plus a few smaller organic grocery services. It keeps good competition between the services which means lots of discounts and promos for customers!

Since I live in a town that takes 15 minutes to drive from one end to the other of, with all lights against you, I am asking this out of sheer curiosity: What does ordering groceries from the internet accomplish? Would it take too long to get to your local food store otherwise?

Elle, with an infant, it's a whole lot easier for me to order online than take her to the store. It also saves on my expenses for car fuel and use. Many friends of mine who don't have cars order groceries online because it's easier than hauling groceries on the back of a bicycle. There are a lot of people here in Seattle who don't have cars.

Miss Elle, I live in a city and don't have a car so online grocery ordering helps when I have to shop in bulk and can't carry heavy items. Although I'm a picky shopper and like to browse. One time I accidently ordered 4 pounds of garlic instead if 4 bulbs. It was a lot of garlic.

Ah thanks guys. I hadn't thought about the whole infant angle (I can sooooo see that one, what a relief it must be) and the no cars angle. I guess I'm spoiled that I can walk to the market and do my shopping daily and it all fits in one reusable tote. On the other hand, you big city folks can actually find things to do after 6 pm.

Not a bad development. I can import this stuff as an Imaginary Friend but any comment I make on it would only be seen by me. Some dump feeds are good for starting conversations, and sometimes it's nice to have an 'Official' feed. For me, Andy Ihnatko http://friendfeed.com/ihnatko is a great person to follow, but he never comments here. I prefer to see all his stuff (flickr etc) rather than having to hunt around. Each to their own...

Isn't anyone else concerned that this gives away your gmail account address? That is, if your custom reader url is http://www.google.com/reader..., then your gmail address is necessarily someperson@gmail.com. That's why I didn't enable this in Google Profile before. Posterous had Auto posted it, to both Twitter and FriendFeed, so either way it was bound to show up. Why it showed up was an accident. It's easy to make the mistake of not realizing or forgetting that something will automatically pop up over here. It's happened to me before (not w/ pics, but Disqus comments - nothing bad, just didn't make sense once over here). There are so many services that can be imported over to FF that one could quite easily forget about something unless you review it and keep it fresh in your mind.

I'm still in shock to find that they had male full frontal nudity in a movie! It's about time. I totally believe NSFW content should not be posted on the main feed. We do have to accept that occasionally something will slip through. A lot of companies are blocking social networking sites. Right or wrong, they do want you to do your job. If it's is such a risk for you, possible you shouldn't be on ff at work anyway. Just sayin'

Here in the United Arab Emirates, our ISP tends to block any site that does not have a policy for filtering mature images. Flickr is still blocked - regardless of their present policy. Since I don't want to lose access to this site, I would rather if FF had a policy for this kind of thing.

I hope FF administration sees things this way, hide and block is actually a very simple solution and a truly excellent one. This is sort of how censorship got out of hand at Flickr though. Started with stuff like this and then the next thing you know they had a whole group dedicated to stamping out anything potentially offensive on the site ending up deleting entire accounts and thousands of photos willy nilly because they had a bad hair day instead. It's easy for people to overreact to stuff like this.

So far, I have not done it with any of my computers. My first car (used) and second car (new) were both solely transportation means of getting me to point A to point B, so I did put stickers on them. The car I have now, I enjoy the beauty and style of it as much as its function, so no stickers on it except for some inside window static cling Apple logos. Having said that, I don't have anything against people wanting to make their stuff unique or reflect their personality.

Stickers on personal lappies rock! On a work laptop, not so much, other than perhaps a sticker of the place you work. But I've got an Apple sticker pacmanning my hp logo, a Bunny sticker (bunny-comic.com), a Bob the Fish sticker (Grand Cayman memories), and a Get Out of Hell Free sticker, just in case... the husband is rockin' an old-school Apple sticker over the Apple logo on his MB, very cool at night with the light shining through. Super nice link Christopher Carr, what is the resolution of The Wrap 920AV? What I really hope is for such AR glasses 1. Not to disturb at all with viewing the world around you, crashing into things all the time because of AR would be a pretty bad thing 2. There's definitely something going on in AR, I'm looking forward to seeing what people do with it in time. Right now a key limitation is GPS accuracy in metropolitan areas: you need consistent <1 meter accuracy to do truly awesome things in AR (i.e. point at an object and get information on it) and we're not really there yet.

not directly the 2010 web persay, but I think what companies such as Barco are doing at the very highest levels of display technology (their LED screens were used, some 2000 sq. meters of in fact, for the amazing Eurovision set in Moscow) will have a huge impact in years to come on what we all use for our displays. If display resolutions finally start to really rise (on average) that will impact the web considerably
