It doesn't address the width/height issue, but there is a rel=image_src link tag that is being used by several sites already: http://digg.com/tools...
- Paul Buchheit
Interesting -- I would be tempted to change what I'm doing "image_src" -- but what an awful name for a thumbnail. I suppose I should just swallow hard and do it. Oy.
- Dave Winer
Paul, is FriendFeed supporting the format described on Digg? There's no date on that document, do you know when it was published?
- Dave Winer
Okay, I'm switching to the Digg format.
- Dave Winer
Dave, we support it in the bookmarklet right now, if there's an image_src we make that a thumbnail by default
- Casey Muller
I don't really agree with you Dave, when things are wrong we should fix them. Your <link> implementation is better, nicer and easier than digg's one. If FF implements it, it'd be up to digg to upgrade/integrate this too. What I mean, is that it's not because digg is widely used that its standards should be followed... else why do we use firefox for eg.?

Casey, cool -- I'm going to test that. Directeur -- gotta pick your battles wisely. The difference betw the two names is trivial. I have a lot of experience with the pileups that happen when there are many ways to do something, those serve as (gratuitous) barriers to entry. I'm glad to have an opportunity to show that I don't just preach this to others, but I do it myself.
- Dave Winer
Now I wonder how Digg would interpret the extra attributes
- directeur
The extra attributes are optimizers not requirements. You can display an image even if you don't know what type it is or its dimensions, cause you can get that data from an HTTP request.
- Dave Winer
I know Dave, I was wondering about Digg's special case.
