Twitter is the new OS. For the moment. It's like the Apple /// in the days before the IBM PC. Remember the Apple ///? (Not many do.)
That reminds me of my Apply II plus - Dickson Loh
Twitter is nto an OS. It's a messaging channel. Every aspect of twitter depends on OS's to survive. When you can boot twitter ona bare server, then it's an OS :) - Soulhuntre via twhirl
Got an Apple IIe in my parents basement. Apparently there's a demand for them at museums. Mine's in better shape than the one in Stanford's CS dept (missing keys), so maybe I'll offer it to them. - Mitchell Tsai
If Twitter is the New OS it sure is behaving like Windows 2.0. Down all the time. I'm going to hold out for OSX. - Robert Scoble
I still cherish my Radio Shack TRS-80 Model III w. 64k RAM and tape cassette drive. BASIC FTW! - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Twitter = Constant BSOD - Mack D. Male
I suppose it depends what you're "operating." - Chris Baskind
IIRC Windows 2.0 was pretty solid, it wasn't "down all the time." OTOH you had to boot into DOS and type "win [Enter]" to start it. If Windows went down, it was because you TOLD IT TO and then clicked OK on "Are you sure you want to exit Windows?" And if you are holding out for OS X, God help you if it's 10.0. :-) - Karim
Also I think it's spelt "Apple ][" ;-) Now where did I put those copies of BYTE magazine... let's see, maybe under these copies of AARP magazine, next to the Geritol... ah yes... - Karim
@Brian-OMG! My dad got me a TRS-80. It had a touch screen. I loved it. - Lisa L. Seifert
Remember the $100 Timex Sinclair computer? http://oldcomputers.net/ts1000... My best friend in high school got one. - Mitchell Tsai
I had an Apple IIc and can still remember walking into the Apple store and playing with the mouse on an Apple Macintosh. I remember the Timex Sinclair, too. How about the Magnavox Odyssey? First gaming console I can remember with a keyboard. - Al Stevens
Split into Twitter and Apple comments, with a bunch of snarky Windows stability issues thrown in ;) - Yuvi
The Apple /// was the machine that got me hooked on tech. My first experience of 'Hello World' using UCSD Pascal all those years ago. And a 5MB shoebox for a hard-drive. - Damian Bannon
So, what's the IBM PC? - Yuvi
