Wanting to update my iPhone to 2.0 but finding that iTunes says 1.1.4 is the latest version.
ITunes NL says I can upgrade through the store, but the store is now closed...coming very soon I guess - Tibor Paulsch from twhirl
mine bounces between that and saying itunes cannot complete your request - Jay Martinez from twhirl
I would advise against upgrading at the moment.... at the end of the process, iTunes has to contact some activation servers, and I think these servers are melting!! The Apple support forum is alive with guys saying they have a bricked iPhone!!! I think it will be OK when things have calmed down! - Peter Cattell
WTF?! ITunes keeps switching messages now: now 1.1.4 is up to date.. - Tibor Paulsch from twhirl
I now have a brick. At the end of the update process I got an unspecified iTunes error. Not only do I not have a 2.0 iPhone. I don't have a phone of any sort. - Howard Keziah
You need to update iTunes to version 7.7 to get the new firmware. - Dan MacTough
Dan, I just did, and now when I click Update it offers to install 2.0, whcih I said OK to. Wish me luck! - Dave Winer
Good luck! - Dan MacTough from twhirl
2.0 is fantastic. The typing is monumentally better. - Akiva Moskovitz
Did it yesterday morning without a hitch, so you should be fine. I think you're generally going to like the new software and App Store. I'm not happy that you can't trial apps. Gotta put up cash and take a chance. - Kevin C. Tofel
Sure its AT&Ts servers...http://friendfeed.com/e... - ThePicMan
I have a fine 2.0 brick. http://www.flickr.com/photos... - Dave Winer
the message for the 2.0 upgrade showed up in my iTunes after I did a sync this morning. I ran the process and after about 30 minutes it failed putting the iphone into recovery mode. it says to restore, but it is trying to restore 1.1.4. I saw a message earlier in the process saying that it was upgrading the firmware so it seems odd that it would try to put 1.1.4 back on the iphone. anyway, my attempts to restore give me a error 20, unknown error, each time. i now have a pretty brick.... - Mark Heringer
I love the way I feel so supported by Apple. What the fuck am I supposed to do now? This is a phone. I pay real money for the thing. What's the plan APPPPPPLE? Hello. No I don't feel like waiting on hold, uhhh, and I don't have a fucking phone to call you with if I did. - Dave Winer
Looks like the upgrade worked, but the Activation servers are getting hammered. That's where the process is falling down and there's no excuse. Apple should have learned from the first launch. Ugh. Glad I did this yesterday. - Kevin C. Tofel
Ouch. Big bad mark for Apple on the 2.0 launch. I feel bad for the folks who bricked themselves in pursuit of bragging rights. I was just one error message and a dozen warning tweets from having a brick myself. Try a Summize search on "iPhone activation" for current news. - Michael Markman
Dave send Apple a Tweet! ;-) - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Don't try. I did and I can't get activated now on my phone - Francine Hardaway from twhirl
So now I have successfully run the recovery process on my iphone after the initial 2.0 update failed, but I get the message that I am unable to contact the iTunes store... - Mark Heringer
