Dave Winer
Torrent of this week's Gillmor Gang, just concluded. http://www.mininova.org/tor...
Thank you so much dave. At least -you- have some common sense. I am so pissed off they stopped the RSS feed. - Robert
Be careful, Jason once posted gillmor gang without permission and Gillmor was furious - David Lloyd
Don't think its Creative Commons. - David Lloyd
I haven't talked with Steve about this but everything broadcast on TWiT Live is CC attribution-non-commercial-share alike. It's a live show recorded in public so I don't think there are the same issues there were with the infamous Calacanis episode. - Leo Laporte
Thx for clearing it up Leo xx - David Lloyd
I used to listen to it on my walks once a week, and since they stopped uploading MP3s I've had to sit at the computer while they do the broadcast. I've missed a bunch of it as a result. I understand Steve is really into pushing realtime, but my life isn't realtime when it comes to the GG, and I figure other people's aren't either. So I took a chance that maybe they wouldn't mind. I know I saw a lot of other people suffering GG withdrawal. - Dave Winer
I need to get angry and disgusted at least once a week or else my system clogs up. - Dave Winer
BTW, there are now 2 seeds on the torrent. We could use a few more. I'll keep seeding it for a day or so. - Dave Winer
you are a good guy, David Winer xx - David Lloyd
Why not go on the show Dave and let them know when they are talking bollocks :) xxx - David Lloyd
Mark, you gotta be kidding. I would be talking nonstop. Bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks. 1.5 hours of "You're full of shit" that would get old quick! :-) - Dave Winer
Nonsense! Leo would moderate the hell out of you then hehe. It must be better tho to respond to them instead of walking down the street and cursing them on your ipod hehe. - David Lloyd
I cannot understand why they would stop the podcast. I dont care what else they do, as long as I can recieve it as a podcast. The ENTIRE point of podcasting was its time-shifted nature, the fact that we can unshackle ourselves from the -obsolete- broadcasting model. Realtime has its place, but one does not preclude the other. Going live-only is a step back in my opinion. They cut -so- many people out of their listenership, I cant wrap my head around it. - Robert
It is a little bit strange isn't it? Especially as it takes no time to make an MP3. - David Lloyd
I love being moderated by Leo. He's so smmmmmooooooth. - Dave Winer
It's Steve's show, a lot of us don't think its run very well, less participants, more moderation, less threatening approach to interviewing special guests, better production values on the audio quality, would all be improvements. - David Lloyd
I don't personally like it when a special guest comes on, and they are treated like the Spanish Inquisition. It's like, lets see how we can attack the guest and the company he/she works for. And that utterly useless Feldman too, who offers ZERO analysis of any substance. - David Lloyd
I dont mind that so much. People should know what they are getting themselves into when they go on the show, its been around long enough. Its a very insider thing anyway - Robert
I think Feldman is there to be the joe the plumber, the guy who doesn't know anything. The pathetic thing about it is when he tries to be a pundit. Sometimes I just have to turn the volume down it's so embarassing. - Dave Winer
I think a lot of Feldman's gigs are down to his association and friendship with Mike Arrogant over at TC. He got the contract to make interstitial videos for the Crunchies last year for that reason I am sure. - David Lloyd
Hey if this was Google Wave, Dave, I would be watching you type these comments in real time letter by letter! - David Lloyd
While you're in the bathroom sitting on the john! :-) - Dave Winer
11 Seeders of the torrent, should download as fast as your connection can handle. - David Lloyd
I'll seed for a little while. - Jason Hansen
Dave and Leo thanks a lot for this. I missed last week's show, any chance it's around as an mp3? thanks - Brian Hendrickson
Interesting...thanks, Dave. I had no idea they'd actually stopped the podcast b/c Steve wanted to push realtime. *shrug* I'll seed until I go to bed, at least. - Ken Kennedy
Could someone post the mp3 to archive.org and then get it into an rss feed. My iPhone doesn't do bit torrent. Leo said it's cc, so let's bootleg :) - Christian Burns
It's steve's show, and we can't put motives on why he isn't taking the time out of his life to produce a mixed down version of the Gillmor Gang. I have a feeling he remixes it in realtime after the fact, and it's not simply converting to mp3. Steve produces art, but I will take a copy of a copy over nothing at all. - Christian Burns
many thanks dave (and I for one like Feldman's contributions a lot) - Christopher Harris
Mark I completely disagree with you regarding the Gang. The edginess, lack of moderation, rough sound quality is part of what makes it so fascinating. I have enough "dont ask any cutting questions, Im just here to plug my new product" tech podcasts to last a lifetime. - Jamie
If it's not released as a podcast I won't listen. I don't watch or listen to anything "Real Time" anymore. All my TV is downloaded and I convert all podcasts to Audiobooks so I can speed them up. If I didn't do that I wouldn't have enough time to get through all my shows. I'd watch the Gillmor Gang real time once in awhile, but RSS is the way I get my media. So it's simple for me, if it doesn't have RSS, it doesn't exist. - Jason Bryant
This thread is all the proof needed that "real time" isn't "every thing." :-) - Dave Winer
I caught most of it on re-run last night on http://live.twit.tv - no heads up on this show was a bit of a downer - i was out on my way to a friends when checking my friendfeed at a stoplight noticed that the GG had started about an hour earlier... oh well... - Chris Heath
also, i've commented about the non-release of new episodes via the old rss feed here: http://gillmorgang.techcrunch.com/2009... - there's a link to a friendfeed search http://friendfeed.com/search... that will reveal all posts that steve has commented on that include the words 'gillmor gang' - Chris Heath
I just want to add my voice to the thought that for a guy so into "new media" to go back to a broadcast only model is really ridiculous. I too really have a hard time to listening to these guys' egos, but the conversation itself is really interesting. I wish someone else was leading it. Dave? Robert? Leo? Anyone who is more interested in the conversation than their own opinions and proving themselves right. - Joel Asaro
Here's an RSS feed of torrents with "Gillmor Gang" in the description: http://isohunt.com/js... just one so far, obviously, it can be added to utorrent etc. and will download automatically - Jack
http download here: http://drop.io/gg05300... - Jack
Another point that annoys me about this, is that, even if he releases the recordings at a later date, by that time the conversation is well and truly dead. Its outdated, the wave has passed. Now of -course- the best place to have a conversation is -during- the broadcast. But even then, the string of conversations along this crowd goes on for several days, in part, because many many people dont hear the show till they are caught up by means of the podcast. By not updating the feed, that entire ecosphere of additional conversation no longer takes place. And people who would normally participate on day 2, day 3, etc, are left out. In the same way, I cant link my friends to an episode, which I have done so often. - Robert
itunes/podcatcher friendly RSS feed: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/TheGill... - Jack
Jack, are you gonna be keeping this up to date? Thank you, btw - Robert
Sure, I'll upload the shows to archive.org then add them to the RSS feed as long as someone keeps providing the source files. Is there a way for archive.org to automatically make an RSS feed? - Jack
Added 3 more old (non techcrunch) shows to http://feeds2.feedburner.com/TheGill... - Jack
Jack very cool. I'm looking for 5/23 if anybody sees it thanks. - Brian Hendrickson
I think archive.org will automatically generate an RSS feed for the collection once the search brokenness that's going on right now is fixed. (I don't know how long it's been broken, though; that may be very temporary, or something that's been down for awhile.) - Ken Kennedy
Thanks Ken, in the meantime I've created a yahoo pipe using the "page to podcast" pipe. It's a bit slow to update, but works better than manually adding an entry in the wordpress blog I had set up. - Jack
Thanks guys!! - Susan Beebe
Thank you Jack for setting up the bootleg gillmor gang rss feed. Long live RSS! - Christian Burns
The irony here is that back when Dave blocked the so called a-lister tech crowd someone set up an Twitter account that republished all his tweets so that guys like Steve Gillmor could stay subscribed. - Christian Burns
