I will watch both NewsJunk and Memeorandum for a while to see. My favorite so far is Summize and FriendFeed.
- Robert Scoble
Scoble: You can get NewsJunk on FriendFeed and Summize..Add NewsJunk as a friend on FriendFeed. It's probably the best way for you to get the news, it can be just part of your FriendFeed experience. YOu can also get it on Twitter, but as we both know, that's not as reliable as it once was. (Shame.)

For breaking news, have you tried www.twitscoop.com ? I may not be objective but you should seriously try it for a while...

I find Newsjunk to be much easier to follow in Google Reader than in Friendfeed, for four reasons: 1) clear demarcation between new/unread and old/read items (ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!); 2) compact list view of new items; 3) starring of items of interest for quick retrieval later; 4) easy to share items by email. Does anyone have a different take on the respective user interfaces?
- Sean McBride
I have pretty much the exact same take, Sean. I think that different services need/are most usable with different interfaces. I've never found the twitter newsstreams very usable, for the same reasons you describe (unread/read demarcations, starring, sharing, etc.). Same with FF; I use it for "people info", not for high-volume news. But different people find different things usable...that's the virtue of openness! There's no requirement to use things a particular way.

Ken -- so I am not alone on this perception. I am focused on fine-tuning my news reader to generate the highest-quality personalized signal with the least effort. So far Google Reader is easily at the top of my list, and I've tried them all. For instance, I can process Newsjunk articles in GR at least three times faster than in Friendfeed. Zap -- no friction. But all praise to diversity and different strokes... (One advantage to Friendfeed for handling Newsjunk -- the ability to add comments to items.)

Yep. I do the same thing with Google Reader, sounds like. I actually have fairly few high-volume feeds (like NewsJunk)...mostly fairly low-volume, very specific (to my interests) blogs, feeds, etc. The commenting functionality in FF is nice, agreed. I typically share things "with note" in GReader now, and the note travels over here as first comment. Excellent flow! As these interlocking services evolve, we really get customized functionality. It's pretty awesome.

Ken said: "I typically share things "with note" in GReader now, and the note travels over here as first comment. Excellent flow!" -- ah, clever technique and excellent tip.

Heh...I found it by accident. But at least I noticed! *grin* Appears to work with (at least) del.icio.us posts as well...info placed in the "notes" in del.icio.us flows over as first FF comment.
