Earlier today I had to make a reservation at a hotel, so I called their number and was put on hold. The message said please wait for the next operator. Then 15 minutes of commercials. Then a message saying all operators were busy and I could press 2 to leave a message. I didn't. So it hung up on me. Nice way to waste my time!
So it hung up on me. - Dave Winer
That's common hotel reservations. I've yet to run into a hotel boutique, chain or private that didn't do that. I have a friend who works backend on phone systems for hotels and he said they do that to cycle customers faster. If you don't leave a message after holding, you're either calling to complain or won't book anyway. - Anika Malone
I was calling to book a reservation. I called back and did exactly that. There was $1000 worth of business to discuss. The stupid thing about it is that this is a first class hotel with excellent service. I'm sure they didn't understand what their phone system was doing. Or maybe they do and the service is just a facade of some kind, like 24 or Mission Impossible. - Dave Winer
I was booking as part of a conference. The website said they were sold out but the conference had a block of rooms reserved. - Dave Winer
May I make a suggestion -- read the actual post before commenting -- and if you're leaving a comment that assumes the poster is an idiot, why not just skip it. Could save a lot of grief that way and do something to make the world a better place. True, a very small thing -- but even small things count. Maybe someone will in turn cut you some slack someday. Could happen. - Dave Winer
ha, yeah i've been thru that crap, makes you want to book a different hotel, or buy a different product - Bryan Thatcher from twhirl
Bryan, the shame of it is that it's a great hotel. Really world class. Great service. Shitty phone system. - Dave Winer
yeah sometimes nomatter how great a place is, alls it takes is one stupid policy or employee or manager to screw up the brand - Bryan Thatcher from twhirl
Dave: I'm sure you'll do this anyway, but be sure to bring up the problem with the phone system with one of the managers at the hotel. If they're serious about their customer service, they will appreciate knowing what happened. - Tommy Williams
Tommy, I did. She told me that's not the way it works. More often than not they assume you imagined it. I guess. - Dave Winer
"They assume you imagined it". I know that feeling. Major FAIL for the brand - sofiagk

I Hate it when you are on hold for a long time then the system hangs up on you....and Hate isn't a strong enough word - Kreg Steppe
