Ultimate worst topic: Brett Farve Twittering about Manny Ramirez.
- Richard Hoskins
Dvorak. Always have him on please. You and him ARE TWiT. Wil Harris is also very enjoyable. So is Calacanis. Cory Doctorow also.
- Emil Alexander Swenson
star trek twit wound be timely, will levar and veronica
- Todd Proffitt
Oprah, Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray, and most important of anyone else in the world -- Tyra.

With upcoming Hubble service mission, Bad Astronomer Phil Plait and Trek tie in with Levar Burton.
- Doug Torneden
Dvorak, Norton, Rose, and Calacanis...
- Gary Hise
We haven't heard Molly Wood on TWiT in a while.
- Matt Chilcote
Dvorak, Curry, Calacanis, Patrick Norton, and yes cigars and wine
- Aris/Theft
Has Curry ever been on TWiT? I'd love to see Worley on, Dvorak possibly, but if you get those two, maybe add some other old TechTV'ers if possible. Calacan would probably be good too.
- Chris
Molly, Dvorak, WilW, Jason Howell is under exposed, Tom Green, Harry Shearer, Veronica, mix it up Alex A sans Kevin, Merlin, yes please Merlin. And a bit less wine...
- Tom Hofstatter
(Buzz Out Loud + No Agenda)*GDGT Weekly/YLNT = TWiT
- MacNeurotic
0. for a systm geek round: patrick norton (in the house this time, no wandering around & connection issues), dave randolph, and david caulkins 1. stephen fry, conan o'brien, jimmy fallon for a talk show host round (if you can get them), 2. as gunny wallen put it 'no social media experts'.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
How about Bwana and Patrick. They can do impersonations of each other.
- Joe Dearman
Anyone related to Star Trek I guess ... wonder if you can get JJ Abrams though :p
- Clarence Chiang
although very unlikely, would be funny to have george lucas & a round of star trek actors. heh :p
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
I don't like listening to people act like they know everything and yes I'm talking about Brian Cooley .. I agree with all the other choices though
- John Blanton
from twhirl
It's always funny how one person's favorite is another person's worst nightmare :) I always enjoy Dvorak, Patrick and Veronica.
- Jeff
Pete Cashmore was cranky and great although probably not popular. Ryan Block and Will Harris are always good. Worley and Molly are very good. Curry would be fun since he is opinionated. Basically choose folks who are very knowledgeable or Type A. No squeeky women who start each sentence with "um" or "well".
- Techboy2000
Wil W pls, he's a fan of both Twit and Star Trek...
- Denverken
Check out Andrew Dubber of New Music Strategies: http://newmusicstrategies.com/ He's a New Zealander living in Birmingham, England, and he specializes in all sorts of ideas on how musicians can find a market and fans online.
- Darren Landrum
Leonard Nimoy, Wil Harris, Dvorak, Molly Wood
- chipster621
Patrick Norton, Lisa Bettany, and some Star Trek with new movie out so will wheaton & Levar Burton
- Matt Pollari
Winer, Gilmore, Calacanis and Doctorow - that should be fun.
- Geoff Schaadt
Wil Harris, Andy Walker and some of the old gang from The Lab. Someone to talk the effects of technology in the entertainment field such as theatre and concerts
- Stephen Dean
Steve Gillmor, Merlin Mann and Jason Calacanis.
- Wo
Kevin Rose, I know you don't like having him on, but he is nice to see every once and a while. Veronica Belmont would be nice again, Patrick, Maybe John.
- Dakota O'Neill
Sam Ramji, Open Source Director at MS. Talk about cognitive dissonance! Very smart guy and excellent speaker. I can introduce you if you want.
- John Kordyback
Josh Topoksky, Geoff Farinha (up and coming podcaster)
- Shawn Roberts
I really enjoyed Twit 188 with Becky Worley and Devorak. Calacanis is good too. Not a fan of P Norton
- Allison
Wil Wheaton and Levar Burton would be awesome.
- Jason Elliott
John C, Rose, Norton, and Worley. Second list is John C, Harris, Swood, and Curry.
- Kacy
Leo - I'd like to hear from Bret, et al, from FriendFeed and what they've experienced, learned from the very first major outage they have suffered (due to their colo provider losing power)
- Robert J Taylor
Daniel Suarez, author of Daemon… just finished it… awesome.
- Mike Meiners
Molly and Lisa--Star Trek geeks; Brian; and Patrick but, as has been stated, only if he's in the house otherwise he leaves early/gets disconnected/gets called away. No more than four
- MikeNNN
Definitely could use me some Molly Wood. Also, Veronica was nice. Hell, make it an all BOL show, bring in Jason and Tom too. And I agree with John, Gruber would be sweet.
- Mike Nayyar
another new suggestion considering the fate of 3d realms: 1UP.com editor Garnett Lee - friend of Patrick, frequent Cranky Geeks guest and all around smart dude on tech subjects
- winston smith
I love the new product reviews like Pogoplug and sling iphone and using eye-fi for instant slide show from camera! LESS ALCOHOL!
- Stephan Romeo
Jason Calocanis - Star Trek Guys are a good Idea too
- Shane Burgess
How has no one said Molly Wood? She hasn't been on in a while. She definitely has a great amount of geek cred.
- Chris Kourmoulakis
Chris, Molly has been all over this biz!
- Mike Nayyar
Patrick Norton, Jason Calicanius, Or perhaps Bwana? Levar Burton is always awesome too.
- Crystal Tillman
For selfish purpose, I'd love to come on and talk about how we're using social networking to help America's homeless. But aside from that (and pardon the plug), I like Baron's choice, Trent Reznor would make for an interesting guest given the present circumstances with Apple. I also would love to see Molly Wood.
- Brandon Mendelson
John C. Dvorak of COURSE, Becky Worley (who seems very insightful and is able to hold her own with John) and lots of wine. Do not under any circumstances allow Calacanis on to do any more impressions, god that's annoying.
- Barry Ferg
Love to hear Pogue if you can get him. If not, bring back Brushwood!
- Joseph
Calacanis is always interesting and how about Levar Burton and Sarah Lane Wil Harris too
- Shaun
FriendFeed crew, MG Siegler, Mark Spencer, Scoble, Joshua Schachter, Kevin Rose, Veronica Belmont, Lisa Bettany, Bwana, Jeff Pulver, Dvorak, Brian Brushwood, Gary Vaynerchuk !
- Jay Neff
I totally think I should be on - I could explain my new theory that explains how dinosaurs aren't actually extinct, but instead exist in a parallel dimension where, among other things, purple is a flavor.
- Tad
Devorak, Shwood, Patrick Norton & Cali Lewis
- Anthony
Shwood, Wil Harris, Robert Heron, and Patrick Norton!
- Brandon Kester
Just get Dvorak and Jason Calacanis together again. Both are insightful, headstrong and controversial.
- Dave Senior
dvorak, calacanis, veronica belmont
- Brian Waters
Interesting to hear what a tech-savvy VC has to say about the state of innovation in tech - what is likely to get funding - who's under presure - where money helps innovate - where VC money offers no advantage etc etc
- Ian Horley
Calacanis, Veronica, Levar and Dvorak of course
- John Gardiner
Still on the VC theme, Guy Kawazaki is a great orator, but not sure how good a pundit he is, or how tech savvy he is http://www.guykawasaki.com/ - I think he s in your neck of teh woods too!
- Ian Horley
why not. the mythbusters vs the ghost hunters
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
I enjoy the usual suspects but I really was impressed by the recent appearance of Becky Worley. She really brought some new freshness to the show.
- Mark Krynsky
Anyone that will talk about tech and not swine flu. Dvorak, Patrick, Roger, Veronica.
- keith
I would like to hear Bwana again. Also Levar Burton is always good.
- Dylan Newstead
Kate Russell from click in the uk to add new edgy tech? dvorak of course, and any trekkies for the new movie, steve gibson to make seriously nerdy, how about roz on her new row
- Rob Williams
Bring John C. Dvorak and Jason together please! They are both great to hear in the same episode.
- Pigon (Piotr Golebiowski)
Adam Curry, not that bad of a guy Leo... Less Ryan Block, More Calacanis, More Wil Harris
- Jim Edwards
How about a Blast From the Past! A show on the old Computer Chronicles and maybe get Stewart Cheifet as a guest. I know it's history, and not really a new tech idea, but if not on TWiT maybe on another show. Maybe TDoT - These Decades of Tech, history of where it all started, with guests like Steve Jobs, Woz, Gates (he's retired now also) Capt. Crunch etc.. There is a lot of history there! just an idea.
- HamRadioActive
Discuss Apple's rumored acquisition of EA. Good idea/not, why/why not? With Kevin Rose (Apple Fanboy), Dvorak (Not so much of an Apple Fanboy) and Alex Albrecht (gamer, TRS etc).
- Michel
Louis Gray. He should start a podcast of his own. Perhaps, you could encourage him to start one.
- Michael Fidler
Leo - I would be honored and willing to discuss ANY topic you might toss in my direction. Ukiah, Sebastapol, ... all lie near and dear to my heart. any interest in interviewing a 10 year veteran of the enterprise software biz? name the time/place and i'm there. i appreciate everything you do @leo
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Kevin Rose, Sarah Lane, Calacanis, Patrick Norton, Martin Sargent and no Dvorak.
- Michael Sarge
Hey Leo, looked at Square Space thinking about changing but have a question about my domain, i think you said it's not problem to go straight to your www but do they now take over the hosting for the domain and or email, i still would like to use my own domain and my own email extention, and i just signed up with 1and1 to have imap support, does square space have imap support, not sure how that would all work.
- Charles Moore
How about how the white house could have saved 300k and a job. To do the Air Force One Photo - hire someone to photoshop a pricture of AF1 over the SoL - why did we actually need to take the picture?
- Laurence Gold
Molly. Tom Merritt, Dvorak, Veronica, ... how to choose? Good luck making sense of all the suggestions! Oh, and Jono Bacon! ;)
- Bert Van Vreckem
Dvorak/Norton are the best. Molly Wood/Meritt/Veronica are always great, as is Shwood. Wild card Morgan Webb would be neat, but people have been asking for her for almost too long.
- Victor Z
Me. Of course. Bon week-end à tous ; )
- Didier Lahely
I'd really like to see you take it to the next level and turn it into the tech equivalent of the Sunday news shows, ala This Week, Meet the Press, etc. That is, try to get more of the folks who've actually made news in tech this week on the show, combined with analysis of why what's happened this week matters. Just getting a bunch of hosts from TWiT shows and other media outlets talking about who knows whom and promoting their stuff is less appealing to me.
- Ken Sheppardson
Levar Burton - May I also add perhaps an iPhone/BB/C-phone app review/recommendation section of the show - I value the panels input on such things
- Tyler Johnston
Jerry Pournelle, Levar B or Peter Rojas. Spare us the bubble gum ones like iJustine or Lisa Bettany. Shopping exclusively at an Apple Store and being cute != tech expert/panelist.
- Adi
Always love to hear perspectives from Dvorak, Norton, Calacanis, Belmont, Wheaton & Burton, lets add Adam Curry, Economist Paul Krugman and actor Jeff Goldblum to the mix
- Dan Beyer
Molly Wood & Steve Gibson. It would be rant-astic!
- tamahome
Jerry Pournelle, Molly Wood and John C. Dvorak - Joe Gilbert
- Joe Gilbert
Dvorak's New World Symphony would do rather nicely - Antonin Dvorak
- David Blumenstein
wow... thanks for the love everyone! my favorite guests to be on with are Dvorak and Kevin Rose. I feel like those shows really rock.
- Jason Calacanis
Scoble, Calcanis, Gillmor, Winer and Arrington mud wrestling in pink blancmange! - Make us laugh and then they'll all be friends again!
- Jan Simmonds
Dvoracanis part 2! And Miley Cyrus. Or maybe Paul Thurrott & Andy Ihnatko, plus Kevin Rose.
- Thunderwing
from twhirl
Or Adam Curry, Alex Jones & Michael Savage. Oh, wait, that would be a special episode of No Agenda. Sorry, my bad.
- Thunderwing
from twhirl
Lisa Bettany, Jason Calacanis and Dvorak. Always. It'd be nice to see Paul Thurrott on TWiT, he's always great and it was a big MS week what with the RC.
- Henrik
After listening to todays Gilmore Gang, anybody that sounds more professional then that group would be better.
- John Wallace
It would be an honor to be on the show... www.cyberstudies.org

Here it is the ultimate Twit Group. Leo, Patrick, Dvorak,Brian Brushwood,& Jason Calacanis

have been a long time D-Link customer, picked up some great gear in Taiwan last year
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
Had so many problems with D-Link products
- Jon Anderson
I use three Linksys wrt54gl routers with tomato firmware and WDS to provide complete wireless coverage in my home. Works just dandy. (WDS is described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...)
- Jasmin Patry
After having nothing but problems with Linksys gear, I now use Dlink exclusively. This is my wireless router and it just works.
- Alex Scoble
I just ordered one, to arrive tomorrow.
- Dave Winer
I have a D-Link DGL-4300. The wireless part works fine and I like some of the features (port access control for one), but the UI blows and it's buggy with certain things.
- LogEx
I've been tempted to switch to an Airport Extreme or a custom-firmware device. I'd presumably gain reliability, but lose features I use. Not a good choice to have to make.
- LogEx
The UI on the DIR-625 is good...much better than what you get with a comparible Linksys.
- Alex Scoble
I returned the DIR-625 in favor of the DGL-4500. It's expensive, but very stable and fast. My time is worth more than the $100 premium for something that works reliably.
- Darius Dunlap
4300 UI needs lots of clicks to access commonly used functions (some of which wouldn't be so common if not for the bugs). I regularly have to reset port access control, or reboot router.
- LogEx
great, politics meets tech meets the Alaskan bush :?
- Comickey
Fey and Palin are already set for life ... regardless. This isn't going away
- Charlie Anzman
how would she have time to do a TV show? Does she plan to move from Alaska?
- Phillip Jeffrey
I dunno, if SNL last night was any indication, it would be awkward and just bad. So very, very bad, don'cha know.
- jbean
The Palins. Watch them shoot wolves from a plane, speak in tongues, and bust meth labs.
- Rodfather
Yea absolutely, her presence was amazing! Too bad she's on the wrong team. It looked like she was crying inside though. I can't imagine doing what she did.
- E.B.
Are you kidding me? She was HORRIBLE. She didn't do ANYTHING!!!
- Jeff McCord

Sarah Palin: Avoid The Press, each and every Sunday Morning, you guess the station/network, she's not going to tell you
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
I'm not sure if the world is ready for a host with that accent. I do like her politics, though. I thought her selection was definitely responsible for getting McCain a chance in the race.
- Douglas Karr
from twhirl
I can totally see that, she and John loose in November, she returns to Alaska, Fox puts her under contract to show America how government works, reality TV style.
- Brian Blankenship
as a libertarian, its his choice as to who is his running mate...as a human being i am unashamedly embarrassed by her, she has done more the prospects of the Democratic party than one could have imagined
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
Sarah Palin is on the wrong side of libertarians, traditional conservatives, traditional Republicans, traditional Americanism, traditional liberals, traditional Christians, etc. The Republican Party has been hijacked by neoconservatives, religious extremists, Judeo-Christian fascists, Dominionists, etc. who have launched an all-out assault on every basic American value. The Republican Party may not survive the experience. She is basically George W. Bush in skirts.
- Sean McBride
Gotta disagree, I'm old school republican, small government-low taxes, and I'm 100% for Palin
- Daltonsbriefs
Sigh. Less government I guess includes abusing your powers as governor of Alaska. Again still waiting for reality-based assessments.
- Rick Powell
Jason, those of us who consider ourselves "old school" Republicans, conservatives or Libertarians have been pushed aside by the Republican Party. It may be time for Libertarians to gain a foothold. They just need to stop sounding batshite crazy!
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
So tell me, Charles and Dalton, what do you think of the outcome of the Palin investigation?

Corrections and additions welcome to the two previous comments.
- Sean McBride
Palin drives liberals even more crazy than they already are. Good enough for me.
- Spencer
Spencer Scott - do you agree with my profile of Sarah Palin supporters?
- Sean McBride
I have some libertarian leanings (although I'm more centrist) but I'm more annoyed with Republicans talking about fiscal responsibility and smaller government and then never, ever, delivering. That includes the Gov.
- mikepk
Nice work, Sean. It's like a tag cloud of ignorance. What makes you say Akiva is a Palin supporter? Never seemed like the type to me.
- Alexander Carlill
Perhaps I'm mistaken about Akiva -- that's why I asked for corrections. I vaguely remember him defending Palin on several occasions. I wonder how many people on the list are religious fundamentalists, creationists, Iran War supporters, etc. Simple data mining to get a handle on this phenomenon.
- Sean McBride
What if all the the religious fundamentalists and extremists in the U.S. moved to Alaska and seceded? What a lovely thought. :) Let them have their own country, and let the United States get back on track on the vision forged by the Founding Fathers.
- Sean McBride
Palin = ignorance, arrogance, dishonesty = more of the same as the current administration
- Rod Bauer
from twhirl
The fact that Palin managed to behave like Bush without nearly as much corrupting power says a lot about her character, though.
- Alexander Carlill
Alexander, I can only assume you're referring to Sean McBride. He's the only person I have blocked on FriendFeed. He's a 9/11 Troofer troll who has a rather creepy obsession with me (probably because I'm Jewish and he's anti-Israel and possibly anti-Semitic as well). He thinks he knows me better than I know myself and kept chasing me around FriendFeed trying to start fights. So, uh, good luck with that.
- Akiva Moskovitz
It's always entertaining to see mental meltdowns among religious fundamentalists like Akiva. He made three false statements in his comment: I am not a 9/11 "Troofer," not anti-Israel and not remotely antisemitic -- in fact I rely heavily on Jewish pundits for my own political analysis. I have strongly opposed neoconservatives and Christian Zionists at the extremist end of the political...
- Sean McBride
Akiva is himself a neoconservative, but he can't defend his emotional beliefs on this subject. No neocons on Friendfeed or anywhere else can -- they are essentially irrational cultists. I am still curious to know whether he unwittingly or wittingly selected the name of a famous fictional Jewish terrorist from Leon Uris's Exodus for his handle -- that would be a very Likudnik move. Akiva...
- Sean McBride
Regarding the easy way in which Akiva throws around the antisemitism smear to try to escape real political debate -- he is very much out of touch with the majority of American Jews on both religious and political issues. A large majority of Jews opposed the Iraq War. The smear tactics are perfectly consonant with the methods used by Sarah Palin.
- Sean McBride
I was a Republican before Reagan took office and my picture of Ronald Reagan is still hanging out in Silicon Valley's Republican Party. The religious wackos so turned me off to conservative principles that I could NEVER support Palin. Any libertarian who supports her and thinks she is for less government makes me really depressed. Her record already demonstrates she's for more government and, worse of all, for government that takes away people's rights.
- Robert Scoble
Be warned, McBride'll keep going on and on as long as you keep feeding him. He'll say a lot of things about me that appear on the surface to have substance but they're based on empty assumptions. He will be unable to back any of it up except to suggest that because I choose not to engage him it means that he's right about all of his assessments. For the record, I'm not a Palin supporter. She's entertaining to watch but that's about it. Or is that Tina Fey? I can't remember now.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, I realise that he's prone to exaggeration. Hence the fact that I questioned your presence in that list..
- Alexander Carlill
Alexander, I don't think much of it all. The trooper in question clearly has abused his power much more than Palin ever did. In the end, it sounds a lot like the "scandal" over the firing of attorneys general: much ado about nothing. But keep in mind, per Scoble and McBride, I'm one of those "religiosu whackos" that is standing in the way of true ___, whether we are talking about true conservatism or the truly golden age of Obama.
- ComicList
Republican Libertarian? Does that mean you check whatever box lies between John McCain and Bob Barr on the ballot?
- Ernie Oporto
This libertarian turned away from the Republicans eight years ago, and just laughs at Palin. Any Republican should feel insulted by this cynical choice.
- Michael Hart
It appears that Sean McBride has fallen victim to Sara Palin syndrome. A form of the violent reaction liberals have to any conservative that doesn't fit their stereotype of ignorant white male redneck (see extreme abuse of Condi Rice). Palin energized the GOP base that viewed McCain as a RHINO. She is closer to the average American than your typical bi-coastal liberal.
- Robert Hafer
Robert, that's her problem. She's too average and ordinary. She's not smart or special enough to be elected. Whereas Obama, despite a history of abuse of power, despite not being able to explain the simplest of things like how he actually was able to afford Harvard, is the smart person we have been waiting for.
- ComicList
Looks like it's block time for Charles. And Robert, as a European (oh shit!) liberal, Palin definitely fits my stereotype of ignorant white female redneck. Except she's got abuse of power and weird secessionist links thrown in as well. Is it not worth having a VP who's above average?
- Alexander Carlill
So what's wrong with being liberal, isn't that what libertarian's are? Live and let live...
- Andy Davies
As a woman AND a Libertarian, I was insulted by her the moment that she was picked, and her beliefs and shenangians were thrown out for public perusal. She is for less government in name only, and will only be for less government if she gets to stuff her cronies from Alaskan Independence Party and from her church in Federal posts. Not to mention her voiced desire to set women's rights back by about 50 years.
- Hel Hel
I'm pointing out that McCain / Palin is not a dream ticket for Conservatives, but is far better than Obama / Bidden and their bashing of Middle Americans and attacks on our young people in uniform. The majority of people in "fly over country" own guns, go to church and don't want to live on the Government dole.
- Robert Hafer
The attorney general's scandal was *not* much ado about nothing. The firing of Carol Lam, the U.S. attorney who busted Duke Cunningham, was *clearly* a political act that severely damages the credibility of the U.S. attorney's office. Notice that Roberto Gonzales is no longer attached to the Bush administration, in part because of his indiscretions in this regard. Are you a fan of corruption and increased crime, Charles?
- Victor Ganata
Regardless of her unusual politics, Alaska's resources need to be tapped/drilled/exploited immediately. That is my main goal for her stage time.
- Morgan Warstler
@LePage I have to say I've never heard anyone question how Obama could afford to go to Harvard. A new one on me, and a new low. You should be working for McCain's campaign. They need all the bs charges they can get.
- Rick Powell
Akiva Moskovitz has given the strong impression that he supports the McCain/Palin ticket over Obama/Biden, primarily because he shares the neoconservative agenda up and down. Without a shadow of a doubt he is extremely emotional about Israel, and he throws around the anti-Israel and antisemitism smear with abandon whenever the neoconservative agenda is challenged (including the Iraq...

- Sean McBride
Akiva Moskovitz: "Everyone freaks out if Bush threatens an attack on another country but when Ahmadinejad regularly talks about wiping another country off the face of the Earth, all I ever hear from those same critics is a lot of silence." We get the picture about the agenda here. The good news is that the Bush 43 administration finally figured out that an American war against Iran would be a worse catastrophe for the American interest than even the Iraq War.
- Sean McBride
Sarah Palin says she's for less government? But then she adds: if you have a disadvantaged child, like she does, then she is there for you. What does that mean? Money, government programs. It's the same hypocrisy from the Republican leaders for years now. Reagan claimed to cut government: it grew. GW, same thing, on steroids. You can't help but assume when they say less government, it means, unless I can spend tons of the people's money to help my friends and business partners.
- brad
Jason -- I haven't seen any "arguments" from Akiva Moskovitz on issues relating to Mideast politics and religion (especially Judaism and religious Zionism) -- just emotional and irrational responses that are standard fare for neoconservatives. Regarding Iran: apparently the American government opposes an American or Israeli attack on Iran for reasons of economic self-interest. We are already on the verge of a global financial collapse without instigating violent chaos in the Middle East.
- Sean McBride
why are people never called anti-Semitic when they hate on Arabs?
- Victor Ganata
Global Secure Systems has said that a Russian's firm's use of the latest NVidia graphics cards to accelerate WiFi ‘password recovery' times by up to an astonishing 10,000 per cent proves that WiFi's WPA and WPA2 encryption systems are no longer enough to protect wireless data. David Hobson, managing director of GSS, claimed that companies can no longer view standards-based WiFi transmission as sufficiently secure against eavesdropping to be used with impunity. He also said that the use of VPNs is arguably now mandatory for companies wanting to comply with the Data Protection Act
- Leo Laporte
This is probably a stupid question, but why don't WiFi spots just block traffic to those individuals, not already connected, who try too many times to guess a connection's WPA key? And then alert the administrator that it's time to randomize the password again?
- midnightgolfer
Of course they don't say how a 100x speed-up would make WPA breakable. Nor why the WPA encryptioin would be vulnerable but not the VPN encryption. I guess they are selling VPN solutions?
- H Durer
from twhirl
Okay, so they are still collecting packets out of the air, and so they still need to collect a huge amount of packets. So systems with more users / traffic, are more vulnerable, as they have more packets 'flying around.' How does using graphics processors make more packets? It doesn't, you still have to collect enough packets, so that they can be analyzed. New method only speeds up the analysis, not the packet collection.

As soon as it's released here (f** you orange), I'm gonna buy one. Here 3G coverage is perfect and I want the GPS. It's an horrible shame that it doesn't have video calling.
- Jean Berniolles
Nope. Got my Unlocked Curve on T-mobile and my 30gig iPod...if anything, the new apps store and 2.0 firmware make me want to get an iPod Touch but I'm passing on the iPhone....

At some point, probably - but for now, I adore my Treo... No reason to change horses when the one you're on is running really well.

Got one. First time user, so really enjoying it. Better than any phone I've had before. It reminds me of that feeling I had with the original Palm device. Something mind changing about how you think about going about things.
- John Collis
I'm in BFE so there's not even a chance I'll see one for a long long time, plus I like my blackberry for now.
- Garrett
As a former Treo owner I have to ask why?? Have you used the iPhone? There is no comparison. Trust me, I'm being honest, and I work for Microsoft. Well done Apple.
- Ryan
Ryan - Two things, for me. First off, AT&T's service is HORRIBLE, here. Second, there are 3rd party applications for my Treo that I simply can't get for the iPhone. Oh, make it 3 things - I hold great value in mashable keys. I've used the iPhone's keyboard, and to say I dislike it would be a massive understatement.
- Bradley McSpinn
I want one but will not get one i don't think still to expensive waiting for iphone Version 3

I'm going to get an iPod Touch so I can run the apps .. that's more exciting to me then 3G or GPS ... voice dialing would be much more useful for me at this moment

- Brad Brooks
Can't shell out the bucks for the iPhone. I am looking at getting a Treo or Centro though.
- Mark
I think I will stick with my blackberry for a while.
- Matt
from twhirl
Crackberry 8830 Curve is better than iPhone -- just ask MG Siegler! ha, ha!!
- Susan Beebe
I'll buy an iPhone when they pry my Blackberry from my cold, dead hands.
- Jeff Jones
got it this morning. no wait, no line, no problems - for $199 it's unbeatable
- Nathan Chase
Got one last night, long line even at 8:30 p.m.! It's a great phone but power management could be easier. Check out my thoughts on it : lonseidman.com/?q=node/281/
- Lon Seidman
no, the price plans in new zealand are insane... and my wife won't let me.
- sergiooo
In HK also it's not so interesting...you must pay a prepayment (about 350$) which will be rebated in 2 years and you must pay 55$/month...
- Jean-François Amadei
from twhirl
Still trying to decide. My Dash has been having issues and T-Mobile gave me a hard time about fixing the problem. So it is about time for a new phone. My big concern is the battery. Lots of reports of the iPhone not making it through the day.
- David Z
It takes 10 days to switch from sfr to orange so I can keep my phone number. Anyway, 3g iPhone meets my expectations but the battery is a concern, lack of copy-paste function as well.
- yvons
Groups and Search are really useful to me, to filter the stream and keep an eye on important stuff I don't wanna miss
- Sebastian Küpers
I think integrating URL-shortening into the app would really seal the deal
- Kevin Bondelli
it would be nice if it could incorporate a friendfeed panel as well
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
TweetDeck's growth since my post on Friday has been nothing short of dramatic. I love seeing the enthusiasm.
- Louis Gray
TweetDeck is fantastic! Really nice UI, Groups & Search are both powerful stuff; plus the whole "offline" fail whale contingency plan!
- Susan Beebe
oohh, a friendfeed panel. That's a great idea.
- Kevin Bondelli
The one thing I like about TweetDeck is I'm actually seeing some traffic to my blog from it because of the Summize integration. Still waiting for Twhirl to integrate Summize though and then TweetDeck won't need to be used.
- Jesse Stay
I agree with David, a friendfeed panel (with rooms support) would be killer.
- Howard Keziah
Gary is the most brilliant marketer on the Internet. Bar none. For people who don't know who he is, he does the http://www.winelibrary.tv -- he's also a big crowd draw. We had 500 people in DC last week at least in part because of him.
- Robert Scoble
Gary is a fun guy who really gets the space. I love his wine shows and man does he know how to self-promote.
- Jeff Jones
I should say he's a brilliant marketer because he doesn't try to push his product. He also knows his wine and gets respect at every winery he walks into (I know, I followed him around for a day while he went wine tasting). Of course, he has a store that sells $50 million a year.
- Robert Scoble
He's brilliant. Great show. Great recognition of the tools to market his wares. Great Energy. Love him!
- George Smith
i really like gary... he knos his stuff and uses it for his and everybodys benefit
- Edgar Guzman
He's entertaining and always positive.
- Andrew Smith
"You have to try wines -- and you have to try them with the people you love." That's a one-breath explanation of everything you'd ever need to know about wine. Or life, for that matter.
- Chris Baskind
Great guy! He's funny and knows how to get people's attention! And very good at interacting with people, especially with your chat ;)
- Michael Forian
he's got that goofy but charming face
- Tyler Gillies
he is one of the raddest guys on the internet! THUNDER!
- Bryan Garcia
Love Gary. Regardless of whether you like him or not, he will make you want to drink wine and get a little more out of it than you normally might.
- Vincent Guerrero
I re-watched the first episode of his show the other night. His material, which was good then, just gets better and better.
- todddoubleu
He is awesome! I love listening to him, your not greedy BTW. ;)
- joey@jwvmods.com
What a coincidence, I'm catching up on old WLTV episodes I missed. Glad he answered my Q about Caduceus.
- Nate Prouty
Gary: inspirational - I LOVE the "I Suck" clip. Passionate. He' s a great model for what you can do online. And he answers his email. Legit. Good to see...btw, where's the interview you guys did?
- j sven
Gary vaynerchuk really is a hero and an inspiration to all. Wherever he goes he brings life and exitement. Proud to have virtually met him and learn from him everyday
- matt Harris
Gary is on top of his game. I like that he takes so much time to interact with anyone who pays attention to what he does. He does a great job marketing himself/WL/WLTV.
- Ruben
He definitely has rock star quality. Would love to drink with him. Rock on Gary!
- Larry Kless
from twhirl
Gary is just awesome. He is genuine, and loving. Takes time to chat with his fans. I had a nice chat with him a few weeks ago on AIM. Then on Memorial Day, I come to my computer and he left me a message saying, "Happy Memorial Day!" Wasn't expecting that. Great guy!
- Dennis Jackson
from twhirl
Gary is one of THE nicest, most genuine, most dynamic people I've ever had the privilege to meet. An amazing guy, who makes this world a better place every day. The world needs more Gary Vaynerchuks!
- Chris Jernigan
All of the above. I've already worn thru my wristband. Most notably, no haterz even bother with this thread...
- Andy Sternberg
He knows his stuff and it shows. He's not smoke and mirrors
- Ardell DellaLoggia
Like others have said, great guy, stumbled on to WLTV in January. Wish I could have caught the stream live while he was there with you, the recording was fun to watch.
- Scott Ericson
I don't even drink much wine, but I love his show. He's just got an amazing energy to him.
- Erik Jonasson
Lots of energy, I wonder if he's like we know only in his videos, or all the time...
- Oli Kenobi
i like Gary alot, sort of curious what prompted/motivated the question?
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
Gary made me realize that Chris, for all the attention and advice he gives the world, is greedy. (Sorry, I just couldn't resist). Of course, by the same token, I am even more greedy (but working on it). Some of the things Gary says jusst ring true, and make you think. He made me try this wonderful Virgil's Root Beer after all.
- Jay Wiegmann
I think you get the idea, he has a lot of energy, he's positive, he's well liked, he has his priorities straight. I like him because he's starving for the bleeding edge in tech, he loves his Twitter, and he likes to know a little bit about everything.
- Mike Lewis
I think he is acting too egotistical for his age. He needs to not be so over confident just because he has had some good luck. That can change in just a split second! When he isn't expounding like a know it all I find him interesting and entertaining and his descriptions of wines are superb!
- Patricia Hale
Awesome guy. Really knows his stuff and is dedicated to his fans. I look forward to hopefully meeting him one day. He is definitely a true inspiration to young entrepreneurs everywhere.
- Lance Hill
lilve blogging and streaming of conferences are killing them, you get to see the "wizard" and realize that wit the cost of travel ....
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
i have never had the skill sets to live blog events very well. I prefer to absorb the information, chew on it, then wrap my perspective around it and write a blog post after it has ran through the lens that i care to share it through.
- Rodney Rumford
I dont think live streaming is killing conferences, buy it will certainly change them. Most of the conferences I connect to through remotely aren't ones I would have gone to anyways. So, I am able to interact and even promote the conference. I think live streaming / blogging is the best promotion any conference could get - and should pay to have people come and do it for them.
- Tony
Good idea. Twitter has lost a lot of momentum lately. It's still good for "microblogging", but it's missing a solid feeling of discussion. That's where FF stands out -- centralizing the conversation.
- Jeff Beckham
Way to go Jason. My choice too. I'll read the conclusions you'll draw on that move of yours :-)
- Eric Sausse
Not a bad idea, I've found SocialThing and ping.fm have helped expand my horizon's from Twitter
- David Sky
This is a smart idea. hard to focus on FF while on Twitter. (Plus Twitter will probably crash 10 times during the next week). Plus FF has a bunch of new features to toy with. I'm tempted.
- phil baumann
way to go Jason, reference Robert Heinlein and NOW you are the VICEROY!!
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
I really prefer twitter over friendfeed, but good luck nontheless
- Mike Martin
does that include not responding to twitters via FF?
- Pokai
Hey I was wondering how long it would take to get you and Steve Gillmor using FF...wow, you both must have drank the same koolaid this week!
- Susan Beebe
I think it is an interesting experiment. What would happen if you just posted and shared stuff using FriendFeed? What could a big hitter do for FriendFeed by doing just this? Keep going Jason, you tend to be a bit of a maverick and really spice things up (which I like).
- Paul Jacobson
Yes, I will be checking off the "send to twitter" in FriendFeed. However, 99% of activity will be FF not twitter this week.
- Jason Calacanis
You didn't check it off for that one. Considering you just sent a Tweet to yourself...
- Tyler (Chacha)
from twhirl
Where is the "send to twitter" feature? That would be really helpful...
- Marc Vermut
from twhirl
Its on the website, you are using Twhirl which doesn't use the feature
- Tyler (Chacha)
from twhirl
Chacha, you can send to twitter from friendfeed when you reply to a comment, but not when doing a new post. Unless I have missed that option.
- Daniel Robitaille
You are correct Daniel :) But the feature to send a Tweet when replying to a comment is only found on the website
- Tyler (Chacha)
from twhirl
I'm curious to see how long until FriendFeed starts to get as glitchy as Twitter myself.
- J T. Ramsay
I just got a glitch myself. Someone comment on a Tweet, I commented back, and now both comments arn't there
- Tyler (Chacha)
from twhirl
Looking forward to this. Jason, interested to see the results of your efforts, and feel free to reach out to those of us who have been living here for nine months now. Taurus and Fondue will love you better for it.
- Louis Gray
Considering dumping maybe half my contacts on Pownce. It simply refuses to load 90% of the time and I suspect it's because I have so many contacts... unless there is some other reason that I'm not thinking of.
I don't think it has anything to do with the number of contacts. I have less than 50 (I think) -- it's just been slow as molasses lately. Not *down* per se, but slooooooow.
- Hillary Hartley
Mostly I post here. I like the community at pownce for posting my photos there and the larger size photos and especially being able to post and share mp3s. It's just that I can't get my page to load 90% of the time over the past week. Not sure why.
- Thomas Hawk
It just returns a blank screen over and over again, not sure what I'm doing wrong.
- Thomas Hawk
I quit using Pownce because of this same reason. I miss it too... :(
- Tad
from fftogo
It's not your # of contacts, it's Pownce, and it's been happening for the better part of a month and a half now. Between blank white pages that say they are completely loaded, and messages that disappear after you send them, it's been mostly unusable.
- cmiper
i thought POWNCE was dead, much like flogging a dead horse, you know how like PLURK and PLAXO willl become
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
I also find Pownce's performance to be unacceptable lately. I can't even check comments over there without a seriously long delay.
- Bwana ☠
@David - Why do you think Plaxo will go that way? I personally think Pownce is ok, Plurk is terrible and I've just started using Plaxo and it seems ok. Keeps my address book & calendar synced between Outlook, gmail, etc.
- Bob
pownce has been slow recently, but w/ most people off it has sped up. I still use it to share media, and speak in greater then 140 chars. In someways it's best community network I've ever been on.
- clarke thomas
I wouldn't mind pownce being slow, it just doesn't do me any good when it loads a completely blank page. I'd rather wait 5 minutes than have it time out and serve me up a blank page of nothingness. I could go and do something else while it loads.
- Thomas Hawk
this is a common occurrence that the pownce crew has acknowledged http://blog.pownce.com/2008... It has improved a bit but still aggravating. They have said that they are rebuilding some things to fix this problem but it seems to me like all these microblog services have a curse
- Zach Chisholm
FriendFeed only...no need for Pownce
- Susan Beebe
I have already left for Plurk. I use Feedtweeter to send all my Plurks to twitter.
- Jon
it isn't going to be a unreliable issue, it'll be a 'reliable other thing' (like friendfeed) issue. when you are certain that enough of 'the conversation' has moved away, and we can get away without twitter, we'll leave. i'm willing to wager it's already happening. the question i ponder is: can twitter regain its footing, or have they permanently lost it? i hope the money/team can make enough impact fast enough...
- Jeremy Toeman
Plurk will have problems soon, too. They're already showing.
- Hao Chen
The thing that bugs me is that it took some time to build an audience on Twitter. I don't want to give that up by hopping to another service. Although if everyone I Twittered with came over to FriendFeed, I'd jump. Right now it's about 33%
- Rafe Needleman
I hear you, Rafe. As it is right now, I'm using both FF and Twitter, but if they have another major outage, I think a bunch more people will switch. Still, because FF is promiscuous (it reads my Twitter feed) there's no loss to continue to use Twitter while it remains useful.
- David Sifry
from twhirl
In your case, I'm quite sure your audience will follow you wherever you go
- Bwana ☠
Rafe - same for me. I don't want to move to another app and rebuild my community. So, I guess i'll have to suffer through the Twitter growing pains.
- Jim Turner
FF is a much better place for conversations Rafe. I suspect that someone like you, a prominent tech journalist, would build up an audience here just as large as your audience at Twitter. For what it's worth I haven't been on FF all that long and I've got almost as many people following me here (2,797) as I've got following me at Twitter now (3,177). The audience is growing faster over here than there as well.
- Thomas Hawk
but you are thomas hawk. people follow you,
- excalipoor
Bwana & Thomas are right, it won't be a problem to get audience here, You might like it even more here
- Dobromir Hadzhiev
Twitter is no where near dead yet. My personal theory is they didn't expect loads of people choosing to massive amounts of others. In the past week, I've had several people with absurd numbers of follows (one with 60k, one with 90k) - that's insane. Twitter has hired some top talent to address these issues and got new rounds of funding to assist. Personally I still love twitter and find it a different and useful complement to Friendfeed.
- Doug Brooks
I'm on it less than before, but use Twitter as a gateway to more reliable socnets like FriendFeed, where we can have longer discussions. The community on Twitter still merits having an account there. Can we be hopeful that now that they got another round of funding, they'll FINALLY find ways to make it more reliable?
- Cathryn Hrudicka
FriendFeed is certainly a very reliable Twitter client, I'm finding. It's nice to get everything that everybody's doing -- not just what they tweet -- inside a feed as well.
- Jared Smith
Twitter peaked during the early primaries, it was an incredible learning and connecting tool. It's not doing anything for me anymore. So have I moved on? Not exactly, because nothing has come along to replace it. FF is very different, and most of the people I connected with on Twitter aren't here. I've always said it's about the people. Nothing else.
- Dave Winer
Compared to mobile carriers and cable companies, Twitter does quite well. It's free and works most of the time. I'm sure things will get better given all the $$$ they've raised recently.
- Mike Reynolds
As long as it takes for FriendFeed to handle SMS posting.
- Rubin Sfadj
As wonky as Twitter is, I'm still preferring it to Plurk. FF is gaining steam with me, but it still seems more static to me somehow. Haven't pulled enough people into my circle here yet, I suppose.
- abacab
from twhirl
unreliable? I would say unpopular ;) I would leave twitter If I could follow ALL my friends and MORE interesting people in other place :)
- Lora Lufark
still on twitter. Not sure when I will move out.
- Thejesh GN
Excellent, a Twhinge (Twitter + whinge) thread! In all seriousness... I posted about this situation at Broadcasting Brain today. I am feeling fed up and having the Reply function on the Twitter Web app disabled doesn't help at all.
- Mark Dykeman
I prefer Plurk's timeline and threaded comments, but the community doesn't seem to be present quite yet. Once the community exists, I'd be happy to switch. But something like FF will keep me happy in the meantime.
- Jason Ziglar
excalipoor, but he is Rafe Needleman, an influential and popular online tech journalist. People will follow him wherever he goes as well.
- Thomas Hawk
Have you given it up? Me neither. That's 'cause we forget how much it sux when its working right.
- shelisrael1
There have been plenty of opportunities for people to move off Twitter to clones. Since it hasn't happened yet, primarily because it is hard to bring your community with you, I don't expect it to happen ever.
- Bob Ngu
How expensive does gas have to get before people like me give up driving cars totally? :-)
- Bassam Islam
from twhirl
Twitter indeed has its limitations. It is NOT a replacement for the fluidity of IRC, it is not viable as a live conference tool, at so many junctures it introduces latency, this is all before we touch upon its infrastructure, reliability, and ability to scale. Perhaps Bezos' infusion of cash will see to thoee last points
- David Blumenstein
from twhirl
For me the thing the twitter offers is the ability to sms info quickly to a bunch of people. Events like Siggraph twitting about the next events or the results of events as they happen to people at the shows. Imagine if the SF Giants twittered player info at their games or things like that. I do agree that it's horrible for conversation, but one-way info is a perfect use for it.
- Doug Brooks
Fortunately it's not too hard for me to move over here. Most of my (and yours, I'd argue) followers on Twitter are ghosts (long gone) or following for reasons other than shear interest. Twitter is still useful for ephemeral exchanges and generally telling the world how undercaffeinated I am. But for interesting links/thoughts and level of conversation this is where I'm now planting my flag.
- Jim Stanger
I like FriendFeed more every day. But I miss Twitter.
- Rafe Needleman
I don't rely on it for communication. To me it's like graffiti on a wall. I'll keep reading it, but if they repaint the wall, c'est la vie.
- Patrick Beard
As long as there is a backup, like FriendFeed, I think Twitter can go out regularly... for me, this works. For all the good Twitter-based projects or business models, Twitter is running out of charm....
- shanebe
5 days continuous ... maybe. People have built huge followings. They're not abandoning them.
- Charlie Anzman
New money and new people coming in to Twitter. Users have been through all of this and stayed so far...they will wait it out. Twitter will and must fix the architecture once and for all and conclude on a viable business model and be off to the races. I'm as sick of the flying whale as anyone else but inexplicably I haven't left...and I don't think I will.
- Paul Marshall
Once the A-listers leave Twitter, it's over.
- Dossy Shiobara
We're all getting tired of the hit/miss feature set and repeated, unplanned downtimes. Twitter management of their app is beyond weak, it's moved over to an untenable business and is completely unreliable at this point. I do think they are taking active steps to rectify the instability of their current app / db environments, but it may be too little, too late.
- Susan Beebe
you lot have very short memories - ebay, amazon, google, world of Warcraft all had issues when they hit viral explosive growth - icq, hotmail - I could go on and on. The fact that there is this much heat about it shows that it will get through the hurdles and move on.
- Ed Dale
Yes, 24/7/, 365. Damn, I'm only a few blocks away. I'd meet you there but I'm heading out of the city for a few hours. The MOMA is pretty close by if you're looking to be indoors afterwards.
- Dave Stanley
We're at the Apple store now. Lots of fun and free Internet for FriendFeeding. :-)
- Robert Scoble
now see im confused - why did orli and steve "like" this? you are having breakfast - big deal :) (nothing against you, just trying to understand why anyone would "like" this - it dilutes the "like"
- Allen Stern
I like things that I want to save for myself. Maybe they wanted to come to meet me? Or, maybe they wanted to tell their friends that there's a meetup happening. I like stuff like this too for both of these reasons.
- Robert Scoble
Oh, and if people didn't like things like these no one would be on Twitter. At least 57% of the messages on Twitter are insipid little things about people's lives like this one.
- Robert Scoble
*Pops in here without context* You folks "Like" things here so that you can't see past your last 300 likes? Scoble, isn't the "Like things to come back to it" line of thought useless with the 300 Likes limit?
- Yuvi
We are in Times Square now. Come join us.
- Robert Scoble
Yuvi, it's probably a little different for Scoble, but for us mere mortals following less than 1,000 people, liking something to save for later isn't a long term solution: that's what bookmarks are for. But let's say I'm tied-up right now, and I see an interesting discussion developing on Friendfeed. I can "like" it for easy access to it in a few minutes/hours/forthours, which doesn't intrude on the 11-page limit.
- Mark Trapp
@Mark: Point taken. I'm also trying to make as much noise(?) as possible so that this issue gets fixed.
- Yuvi
I used to work (and live) in NYC, and was on my way shortly into the city on 9-11. Big Apple has some nice features and attractions but I prefer Maine.

sushi rec for you: ushi wakamaru (136 west houston street)

Akiva: the same happened to me. Do you use a custom monitor profile? I had to set gfx.color_management.display_profile to the path to my color profile, e.g. /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/My-Dell-2407-Profile (on a Mac). Firefox is supposed to use this profile automatically but didn't do it on my machine.
