So, it has been established, both "."s and "-"s (dots and dashes?) are ignored at Facebook. At Gmail, ".", dots are ignored, "-", dashes are not. At both FB and Gmail, g.a.r.y.e.t.i.e = garyetie = gary.etie. but ≠ g-a-r-y-e-t-i-e, or gary-etie, for Gmail.

It would be getting harder to register firstname.lastname by now (Unless you have a more unique name). After the main one is taken you get reverse name taken lastname.firstname then they start spilling out to using initials which multiplies the amount of people that could also use it. I met Terry a while back. This thing really is awesome. My impression is that he's basically a little concerned with premature exposure. He has this idea of what it is and should be, and is worried that people won't get it. Maybe he's over it now-- joking aside, Scoble featuring is a big promotion. I hope he gets the attention he richly deserves.

I guess I really disagree with your statement that Wikipedia is making us stupid; among the things that are "making us stupid", Wikipedia is really far down on the list. If you find something on it that you want to cite in any way that matters (to me that includes school papers and the like), you should use it to find the original source, and in its absence give up and go elsewhere. I would encourage my own kids (or students if I were a teacher) to use Wikipedia like the card catalog.

Ahh, when bloggers say something is dead we don't really mean it's dead as in nothing uses it. We mean it's dead in that it's a topic we don't talk about anymore.

i remember the heady days when we spent $1,500 a month on ISDN (pre-ADSL). ISP booked out a 24 seat cinema just for us. Now we spend $150 a month of ADSL running 20Meg compared to the ISDN 128k. Ah, those were the days.

Entrepreneur has become a grossly overused word. Everyone has a startup or three (including myself) and the net result is that many good ideas get lost in the shuffle. But there's another problem. VC in Silicon Valley reminds me of the Studios in Hollywood. To get ahead you need to know the right people.
