"At the upcoming Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival, Cunningham-Pascatore is leading a field trip called “Birding by Ear and Habitat.” On your journey to become an advanced birder you’ll need to learn where to go (habitat) to find a particular species, and you’ll need to learn what calls and alarm notes a bird makes. This half-day field trip will put you well on your way to getting more out of your birding adventures."

"Birders are known to go to extreme lengths to see a bird, even going so far as to engage in activities that might make them seem silly. Activities like “pishing.”"

"If you enjoy shells, coins, or stamps, you can maintain a collection. But what if your hobby is wild birds? You can’t really collect them can you? At least not legally or ethically. So what do birders do? They make a list."

"Take a good look at the Kaufmans. Do they look like bookish nerds? No. They look more like rugged adventurers. The nerd stereotype is what Kenn Kaufman wants to combat with his Keynote Presentation at the 13th Annual Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival."

The Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival is offering classes of interest to birding and wildlife photographers. See if there’s something here that interests you:"

Sharon Steitler's birding blog posts are always entertaining and this post about gull watching at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival 2009 is no exception.

"Word on the street among gull watchers was that Daytona Beach in late afternoon was the place to be. It’s near the Tamoka Landfill. I’m sure many of the gulls we saw there ended up on the beach. The gulls are staging along the beach before flying out to the ocean to sleep at night. Rumor had it that there could be 50,000 gulls coming into the beach. And if you were in the mood for a game of Where’s Waldo, you could pick out some interesting gulls among the many common ones like the ring-billed gull above."

It’s a place where the spirit of home isn’t nearly as irretrievable as we’ve resigned ourselves into believing, and where feeding the soul is as important as satiating the stomach."
