Glad you peeps liked this tip. It's certainly changed the way I use my iPhone now. Necessity is definitely the mother of invention. ;-)

I've been using this for a few days now and it's working quite well. Sometimes, the email addresses appear a beat funky to the recipients, but so far everybody's been getting their emails. How's it been for you?
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
I haven't tried the Groups app, though it's been mentioned a few times. I'll check it out now to see exactly how they deal with this issue. One thing, though, my solution is free ;-)
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
Checked out Groups and it can't do photos yet. The Camera application allows you to email up to 3 photos per message - however you can't interface the Camera app with the Groups app. There's another app called MultiPhoto that allows you to send multiple photos but not to multiple recipients.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
UPDATED: Now works with most email services and eliminates the Invalid Address dialog box.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
Very cool. And so much snappier. Lovin' it already. And Paul, I'm assuming you're going to try to move Facebook in that direction.
- Johan Bakken
I love it. Now if only we could use it in Facebook.
- Faraz Mullick
Good stuff! I've been using Facebook Lite to get straight to the content I care about without having to sift through gobs of application notifications, but this looks even better.
- Roger
Don't see the added value yet, but you can tell their working with Friendfeed is starting to pay off.
- Vincent van Wylick
Excellent! A bit of real-time here, a bit of hiding there and now we have the best Facebook client. Congrats!
- Andrés David Aparicio
The implementation of read state in kind of confusing. I look forward to more iteration in this space... long overdue.

Paul: does the BSD-CC license apply to code files in the dev URL?
- Andrés David Aparicio
how come that it does not update in realtime ? ah, okay,it's not ff...
- Lode Nachtergaele
I'd like it more if I could hide individual posts on a one by one basis like I can on FriendFeed.
- Thomas Hawk
It also seems like it only went three pages back for me. Would be better to page indefinitely.
- Thomas Hawk
To clarify, this isn't something that I or anyone else from FriendFeed created -- it's just a cool app. I don't know anything about the licensing terms.
- Paul Buchheit
I wonder who is behind it, I'll repeat my question in the Fan Page then...
- Andrés David Aparicio
it may not be something that FF created, but it's something along the lines of what the FF team ought to consider creating -- maybe as a place to test and experiment with engagement before considering features for broader roll out at Facebook. Creating a FF version of Facebook's news feed, complete with hide functionality, thread bumping, etc. would seem like a far more interesting way to interact with Facebook.
- Thomas Hawk
Paul, thanks for sharing it. Andrés, it is indeed BSD-CC licensed and the code is hosted on GitHub: http://github.com/nshah....

I was so into this movie and the book based on it when they came out. I'd recently read the Oz books when the film came out, so I was all hopped up on Oz lovin'. :P I had a pet chicken I named Billina and I built my own Gump out of popsicle sticks for my Strawberry Shortcake dolls to hang out in. That ok, I'm a weird adult who can't stand the original "classic" Wizard of Oz movie, but I have a very special place for Return to Oz. I have no idea what it is but the movie brings me joy!
- Joe Pierce
Not liking the Wizard of Oz is just one of the many reasons why I'm weird. I don't think I've ever seen this.

@Amanda I read the books too. The one with the witch trying to cut off her head scared me the most.

Matt -- Comic timing support has not been moved from the beta testing area of FriendFeed so reading with a sense of meter is rather limited without prior knowledge of the author or the dreaded ASCII smiley contingent. You might try [emotive wrappers] or ending with a "j/k" or any of a number of items... this is just text after all. Google Wave even lets you stick our your tongue in a given wavelet via :p :P :p variation and dexterous use of delete through blips. This isn't Google Wave. Oh yeah... :-D

Meh. IIRC, the last time you were on FF, your feed was little more than a stream of your RSS feeds with a few comments here and there. I'll extend the welcome mat if you interact and engage more this time around.
- EricaJoy
Awesome, glad to see you back on FF Mike! I look forward to your posts, comments and insights. Hopefully your experience will be much better this time around. Welcome back! :)

"With the news that Friendfeed was being sold to Facebook for an undisclosed sum, people have started flocking over to Google Reader, which shows you how fickle the internet can be. One minute they are all in Friendfeed professing their love for it and the next they are moving over to Google Reader just because they may not agree with the future direction of the other site. I have always been more of a Reader person than a Friendfeed person. I don’t know why but I feel more comfortable with Reader. Maybe it’s because it is tightly integrated with Gmail so I can email things to myself, maybe it’s because Reader has a really nice user interface so I can whiz about from post to post. I can’t pin it down but Reader has always been my preferred app. Say what you like about Google but they always instinctively seem to know what is good for the general net user and what works / doesn’t work. As a result, they have built an app which is primed to benefit from any disgruntled Friendfeed users if Facebook messes too much with it."

I can't agree with a Reader move until Wave is released, then the combination will be better. For now though Reader is incomplete.
- Andy Ciordia
A GReader GWave combo would be ideal.

Just not feeling the love with Google reader.
- cheapsuits
It has been very odd how Google seemed to ignore social networking through the years. Sure they have Orkut, but Google Reader, iGoogle and other Google tools COULD have been much better if they allowed you to add your own connections. Big miss.
- Mike Reynolds
I can't handle the regular Reader interface. Much better via feedly.

Google reader has a long way to go before I become a regular user. The interface is crap and too jam packed with stuff.

Since I joined Friendfeed 14 months ago, Google Reader has been my Friendfeed client. Maybe because I'm more a "reader" person than a "comment" or "like" one?
- Iñaki Arrieta Baro
I tried GReader as a FF client for a while but was too clumsy. For me FF is best read in FF, though GReader is a good alternative.
- Kol Tregaskes
Just forewarning - the public will be overwhelmed. It's too much to launch with, IMO - way too many features. (I'm in the developer sandbox preview)
- Jesse Stay
@Jesse Thanx 4 the forewarning I kind of have that feeling when the video presentation presents itself it will take a while to look around its features. I always take my time to test features
- polou/indigo_bow
I expect a steep learning curve. I've barely started learning about GReader, for that matter. Still, I'll be there when Wave launches, for sure.
- Dennis Jernberg
Unless they fix up a lot between now and then people are going to be very, very surprised (not in a good way!). Release early, release often is great, but I'm not sure people's expectations are realistic.
- Nick Lothian
Let's see what it's like then. Thanks for the info.
- Rick Cogley
Great now how long till Google buys Twitter to integrate it into Wave
- Rob Cairns
Rob, there is already a Twitter extension called Twave that integrates Twitter into GWave.
- Kol Tregaskes
Rob: I highly doubt that Google will buy Twitter as it doesn't fits any were with their existing products and with its integration with Wave what's the point of buying it.
- Usman Bashir
Usman - they will find a way to leverage it into Wave or another product.. I really believe Google is going going to make a big splash with Wave and they will have some big surprises in store. Google is not King of the cloud for a reason:)
- Rob Cairns
I've been secretly hoping that FFers, through one of our A-lister friends, would be reached out to for early invitation. Sept 30 is sooo far away!

I'll bump this again. Sorta disturbing that the the Scoble "look at me, I'm part of this" thread has garnered more attention than this. WAVE offers more promise at this point.

I don't know if my thinking on this is right. I wanted to post my FF items to a Blogger blog in order to save them in case they "go away." I thought there was some way I could do this automatically, but I can't figure out how. Second, I set up a posterous and put that in the reader. That works fine and I put my new, so far empty blog in the reader. I guess I just need to know how to get stuff onto my blog from FriendFeed. Any ideas?
- Kimber Scott
And then read these tips from Svartling here: http://ff.im/6mh5s (the main one being to add everyone to a group so they can see your shared items and are allowed to comment on them).
- Kol Tregaskes
sounds like an easy way to create a "clipping" service for an intranet minus all the hassles and money
- Glenn Batuyong
careful with that functionality: if you publish the link to such a tag/folder, and people go to that link's share page (the typical google reader share page) and choose "subscribe", they won't get 1 feed, they will get a new folder with all these feeds automatically subscribed. Not what I would have expected!
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Yep, you can see the feeds by clicking on the + button at the top.
- Kol Tregaskes
Are the users removing themselves from my group? How would they do that?
- Kol Tregaskes
Give up, it's chucked the lot out again! :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
I had the same problem. I assigned users to my custom group friendfeeders but a few minutes later they were removed from that group. For every user you add to Greader, a new contact is created in Gmails Contacts. I assigned those "Unnamed Contacts" to the group as well and that worked.
- Nik
In Google Contacts? Let's give that a go then...
- Kol Tregaskes
Everyone is in the group in Google Contacts, so I hope it's just a display issue in GReader. Svartling, who I've added to a group but has been removed, says he can comment so he must be in the group.
- Kol Tregaskes
Experiencing the same issue.... :( puzzling. People I am following wont stay put in a group.
- David Peacock
Hi all- we filter out folks from your following list who haven't shared an item in the last 30 days. We do that in view only so it's easier to manage the people actively sharing. If someone you add to a group hasn't shared in 30 days, they are still in your group and will automatically show back up once they start to share again. If they are in your group in Gmail contacts, then they...

Jenna, thanks spotting this thread and taking the time to explain. Now I understand :)
- David Peacock
Jenna - where's the best / simplest way to manage groups? Is it in gchat, profiles, some other method? Group and contact management is an area that could really use some improvement (don't take that as a dig - the recents changes have been great progress and overall very happy with greader)
- Chris Rogers
Thanks, Jenna. Cool Google Support on FF. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
That still doesn't explain why Svartling keeps getting deleted from my group when he posts all the time. And yes that is very confusing, please can they simply stay in the group I put them in regardless? I can no idea who I've added before or not and keep thinking I had to re-add them as the Add to group option still appears on the lists. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Kol, if you email me at mihaip at google dot com with your email address and the emails of the people that keep disappearing from groups, we'll look into tracking this down (unfortunately I'm going on vacation tomorrow, so it might be a few days before we get to the bottom of this).
- Mihai Parparita
OK, I'll gather some details and post if I have problems, just tried it again and wait and see what happens. Either way this needs a real tidy-up. When you add someone to a group they should stay there, not automatically be removed and completely confuse us when we see the 'Add to group' links again. I don't use Google Contacts so all this needs to be within GReader.
- Kol Tregaskes
People are removing themselves from my groups too. It's annoying
- Rodfather
Rod, see Jenna's comments above. It's a 'feature'. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
No the problem was mis-diagnosed. The people I follow in greader are not always added to my gmail contacts. If a contact does appear in contacts then it stays. When it does not you have to repeatedly add to a group until the contact is created.
- Ru Viljoen
I wish it was possible to send links to GReader "add as friend". Perhaps there is a way but I don't know how to do it. Only way is to know somebody's email, right?
- Jesper Lind
Yes I can subscribe to feeds that way, but I can not "add as friend", or what ever it says in the english version of the interface. The "Shared objects" section.
- Jesper Lind
love it except some of my feeds have too many ads :(
- BEX
BEX, what browser are you using? If you turn on ad-blocking plugin in Firefox, for example, you shouldn't see any.
- Kol Tregaskes
I keep wanting the likes to come up in google reader like here on FF. So you can give public props to those who brought something to your attention there. Maybe Wave will bring more FF features to Google. :\
- Bluesun 2600
Sorry but I am being awfully slow about Google reader i do not get it the moment I can just see maybe possibilities but flounder
- Chris Bellinger
It still has some problems and is far from perfect and above all is not very straightforward (if you don't create groups with your followers and use the "comment view" you don't see the social aspect of it) but personally as I always have Greader open anyway I'm starting to use its social features which I believe will get a lot better.
- M F
I've been a google reader addict for longer than I've been on friendfeed
- Slappy Line
Not totally sure but I suspect that if we "reshare" an item that had already been shared then it aggregates all comments if we share an item from the reader and someone else shares the same item from their own feed separately then they appear as two items. I agree that it should always aggregate the same item if shared by people in your circle. It could otherwise become painful when we will follow many people.
- M F
You may be right, MF. In any case, it shouldn't be difficult to improve the dup-detection. Right now, I'm following and being followed by 50+ people, and duplicates are a pain.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
It should be really easy to reduce the echo chamber directly within reader. May be one of the eventual strengths of the platform.
- Eric Logan
I've actually always lived in Google Reader more than Friendfeed. That said, I like we they are trying to do with the social features, I'm just not too crazy about them yet. GReader was where I focused on news of the day based on feeds I was interested in. This new feature is drawing in other people's likes that don't really apply to me (but some likes from that person are good) and the most annoying thing is duplicates.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
I'd like to get on board with this Google Reader thing... Is this hard to set up? {I'm behind on getting on board, due to focusing on other things}
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
The new social features are making it even more addictive, they are not exactly straightforward at the moment but there are conversations happening if you are subscribed to people and use Comment View
- M F
I use Google Reader daily, just as much as I do FF, just in a different way up till now. I think the new social features of it have real potential, though they are still buggy at the moment. The main issue I'm having right now is that now matter how I follow someone, 9 times out of 10, they are put into Google Contacts as an 'unnamed contact'. Which means that they don't keep in the...

Tony: In one of the comments at Google Reader a user said that Google is looking into fixing that "group bug".
- Svartling
Yeps, Tony - this is the main issue (and it irritates me, too). But we should remember that they just started to add those 'social features' and despite this the tool is very impressive even now - at least in my humble opinion. We can observe improvements nearly every hour... Anyway - I am on Google Reader for so long that I will definitely stay there and observe the developement and participate: http://www.google.com/reader...

Yeah, I'm ok with the issues for the most part because they are new and its just a part fo early adopting stuff. Just giving a heads up to anyone else who may have been having the same issues.

Obviously I can't provide a lot of detailed plans and guarantees, but I can tell you that I'll do my personal best to ensure that the FriendFeed users and community are treated right. I love this product too, and don't want to see it disappear.
We love you guys and FriendFeed.. we are just a little hurt and worried.. just please give us details as soon as possible.

I'll add my plea to the chorus: Please don't take FriendFeed away from us. And don't make us go to Facebook (because we won't). FriendFeed means a lot to a lot of people and the thought that it will dry up and blow away shortly is very disturbing.

If FB can't keep the service running, would you consider open-sourcing the thing, so we can?
- Christopher Galtenberg
from iPhone
Hi Paul, thanks for the assurances. In the future, I would highly suggest that you make this sort of statement shortly after the initial merger release. Thanks again.
- Alex Scoble
I would like to give you a hug right now Paul. However, that would be awkward and April might beat me up so I will just say thank you and press the like button.
- EricaJoy
Thank you for affirming that. Much appreciated.
- Karoli
A few more points that would be nice to have addressed soon. Ability to export data, tool to import friends to Facebook, and will ff.im urls continue to function?
- Mark Krynsky
Those that like friendfeed as is should be most pleased with this statement, as it probably means maintenance to keep the current system as is, without as much attention to new features. It's also good news for all those who like both friendfeed and facebook, as facebook will likely adopt the better features from friendfeed
- Ivan Kirigin
Thanks for making FriendFeed what it is, and lets hope it stays that way, though there's slim chance of that
- Aaman (Clone of FF)
Now that I think about it: are you kidding me? They've already stated that FriendFeed's going to be absorbed into Facebook. What kind of sleight-of-hand are you trying to pull now, Paul?
- Akiva Moskovitz
@EricaJoy: I have nothing against hugs. :)
- April Buchheit
Thanks, Paul. I've been getting more and more depressed thinking about the bad ways this could go. The reassurances help a bit, at least. In fact, just hearing you speak on the point is encouraging - the open lines of communication between the FriendFeed team and its users has always been one of the great things about FriendFeed that I'm afraid will be lost with the Facebook buyout. And yes, a FFundercats appearance would be a great idea.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I don't want to read too much into this reassurance but the "personal best" remark made me think like there is not a united FF anymore and that it's up to your personal efforts to prevent it from being eaten by FB :)

Turker, I do believe that this deal was the right decision -- I'll write a bit more about that when I get a chance. I say that I'll do my "personal best" because I will -- it would be misleading to make promises on other's behalf :)

Paul: I'm hopeful that this will be the best for both Facebook and Friendfeed. What you and the staff at FF have done is amazing, with only 12 people! I love the service here. Don't know what to say, so lets start with big congrats! from one hand, as an early member of Friendfeed I think we've created here a very cool, collaborative and tech-savvy/passionate community of great people that all probably wish to stick around as much as possible. From the other hand, I know how corporates work and it takes one small decision of share holders to close Friendfeed...

- Nir Ben Yona
My first reaction is disappointment. I don't believe big corporations do better than small ones. Facebook is inferior to FriendFeed, although it's user base is much larger. Clearly FriendFeed won't survive in the long term, unless it is open sourced. Why not open up and embrace the wonders of the GPL instead of joining forces with the Walled Garden no #1? Facebook don't even operate with permalinks,.
- Morten Blaabjerg
Thanks for the explanation Paul. Of course, I congratulate you guys. I think anyone would do the same thing if they were in your shoes :)

There are a few promises and guarantees that you SHOULD be able to provide. Like, that our network of friends will remain intact and that the features that make this site great will remain. - Petr Buben
Paul, what I am worried is not that you're brainwashed, but that there's simply no business need for Facebook to improve FriendFeed from now on, period.
- Ihar Mahaniok
I have confidence Paul. While some of the comments were probably uncalled for, covering an investment (of time and money) in these times to move on and hopefully provide even 'better stuff' makes sense to me. It's pretty obvious there are a LOT of people that don't want to 'lose' Friendfeed. (I wouldn't hold a town hall for a few weeks though :)

Congrats, Paul. It's sad that people have to make these uncalled for hatred comments about Facebook though. Why can't both sites work together. I think Facebook will do better with FF and vise versa. The time to think about how you could do your 'personal best' to ensure FriendFeed continues to exist was prior to the discussions with Facebook. Not after.
- Andy C
Paul, what about the content scam that FB T&C is, does it apply to Friendfeed now? Should we all start writing scripts to retroactively delete all content ever uploaded to Friendfeed? Elaborated a bit here - http://friendfeed.com/mbravo...
- Michael Bravo
We know you'll try your best, Paul. But sometimes, you just can't win the dark side...
- Winston Teo
Thanks Paul for all your efforts. Founders often want the best, but acquiring companies often have people with political/power issues or different/limited visions.
- Mitchell Tsai
*throws a sheep at Paul* is that a good thing?
- Joe
from iPod
yes, thank you, Sergeant Paul ... well, good to hear we go on ... because if not, how about starting www.anotherFeed.com ... or, www.Letsgofeed.com ...... anyway, lets boost blogging capabilities, post more than current amount of chars, lets have TOP POSTS / clicks count list at the head of each group, some stats, lets index group headers, lets have MORE keyboard shortcuts .. - now ......
- Petr Buben
Just because Facebook bought Friendfeed, doesn't necessarily mean they will do anything with the service. At least maybe not right away. People need to chill out.
- Alex Knight
hope it doesn't mess w/ twitter integration
- Ken Seto
makes a lot of sense - f.b. now has a power house of real-time all-stars. fixes many of the feature 'wish' lists for f.b. - actually a major positive sign for innovation. congrats to the F.F. team.
- michael sean wright
This will probably be bad. like all purchases, it will be an "afterthought" and never be fully allowed to develop and flourish.
- Ryan Jones
Man this is really SUCKS!! :((( we all know Facebook strategies on the web :(( Whey will drive FriendFeed to the helll and I'm pretty sure of this :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( BAD SUCKS SAD :(((
- FFTornado
Funny thing is, if you posted about this on Facebook, 99.9999% of it's users would go "huh, what's FriendFeed anyway?"
- Richard Matthias
It almost seemed inevitable since Facebook has been copying so much of Friendfeed in recent months. It's good for the founders of FF and may benefit those of us who use both on a regular basis. Maybe they'll just leave FF alone?
- Kenley Neufeld
someone tell me what they will do with it? Nothing maybe? Kill it, maybe?
- Francine Hardaway
Wonder how they'll integrate, separate services with more interaction or FF swallowed by Facebook.
- Steven Cains
Buy as is use it's IP and close it down or run as separate business? Either way, didn't see that coming.
- Keith Bennett
from BuddyFeed
It was bound to go down. Like we used to say on the block shootin' dice "Big Bank Take Little Bank"
- professor daddyo
I do, however, wish tha tmore sites would implement this commenting engine.
- Ryan Jones
Fotis: haha, wait too long, and you'll never be able to close your FF account ;)
- Jason Hargrove
not believing it until another source confirms...
- Benton
Congrats to the friendfeed team. Worried about the future though.
- Andy Roth
It looks like a defensive move. I think it's better fro FB to acquire FF than incorporating twitter functionalities in their status feature.
- Pablo Paniagua
Congrats to ff team...but how does this work? I have 2 different accounts...and I like it that way...I don't want to share/spam my friends on facebook with what I have here...
- brainno722 (Peter)
Originally posted this to your other FF/FB post before you astarted this one: I don't see the point of Facebook acquiring FriendFeed. They are pretty much identical services (well, FF represents just the News Feed portion of Facebook) I don't see how they can incorporate FriendFeed into Facebook. If they really did buy it, then I see this as them going for programming talent more so...

from fftogo
I think this is more of a "send the friendfeed traffic to facebook" than any kind of technical leverage. My biggest concern here: in order to exchange dialogue with people on facebook I need to be friends with them vs. being able to do it on friendfeed without having to friend them up. I find this valuable as there may be a topic or 5 that I want to engage with user "X" on, but I don't...

- Erik Boles
I am disappointed by this news... I don't like Facebook at all... And I'm afraid they will just kill FriendFeed with their awful cluttered interface...
- Fa La La La Lindsay
It depends on how they integrate it. Did they buy it for the search engine, or did they buy it as a potential for extending the reach of Facebook into real time conversations? It's all about the life stream now right? So probably Facebook's attempt to stake a claim there.
- Tony "Frosty" Welch
First of all, I love the name "Facefeed." ROFL Second, this is business boys. Happens all the time. Why do you think innovation keeps happening. FB will integrate or kill off FF, and something else will happen. It's a natural cycle.
- Francine Hardaway
wondering if i should continue aggregating all my online activity in frienfeed now that facebook owns it!!
- Gtp19
I can't begin to process this right now. Too much work to focus on. Later when I read this 10,000 mile long thread and have a glass of Cab in hand.
- Michele Lorito-Chase
Not feeling real good about this, hope fully Facebook will do right by the FF community, but I'm not holding my breath. Glad for the FF team though
- Kim Landwehr
if you look closely at FF the large majority of FF posts are twitter posts, so there was not that much original content on FF in the first place...
- Ingmar
So FB failed to buy Twitter, - so they buy FF which is just a UI for twitter..
- Nick Halstead
Makes a lot of sense for Facebook. And we find this very healthy ^^
- twitscoop
People need to stop freaking out. The Facebook/Friendfeed buy out was just announced. Wait for details people.
- Alex Knight
It could be bad, it could be good. As long as Facebook doesn't try to port their functionality over, I'm fine with it being a financial acquisition.
- Adam Reyher
Great, why did I bother creating an account here? I could have held out.
- desinole
if this is true, for the love of god, please don't Facebook go and mess up FriendFeed as they have their own system, Facebook is a mess these days, Friendfeed is one of the 2.0 sites that actually has concentrated on doing a few things well, complete opposite to Facebook.
- Carl Grint
I suppose Friendfeed was considerably lacking in LOLcats.
- Ian Tindale
Cuz we all know that facebook doesn't respect user's privacy and you've got basically everything on ff, youtube, twitter, digg whatever you do
- Fotis Alexandrou
Smart for Facebook but I prefer Friendfeed the way it is.What, we'll be throwing rabbits next?
- Janet Fouts
FriendFeed listens to the community. Facebook doesn't. Not to mention they're ENTIRELY different communities.
- Adam Reyher
If they keep FriendFeed as a separate site, and still upgrade regularly, this is fine. If FriendFeed winds up in the dead pool, then it sucks.
- Steve Sill
Maybe I should rediscover my Orkut account.
- Ian Tindale
I was just thinking how Friendfeed had stayed out of recent takeovers, mergers and hence cyber attacks. Will Friendfeed now be taken over by celebs and spammers too?
- Nils Geylen
Not sure why this news makes me nervous. Please tell me it's going to be ok Scoble...
- Lucas
FF has been FB's incubator for awhile.
- Peter Warnock
How can I spam on this thread please ? Any idea ?
- Toucouleur
Facebook has ZERO respect for users' wishes... Friendfeed is incompatible with that. Friendfeed will be going away. :( Their blog post says as much: "FriendFeed.com will continue to operate normally **for the time being**. We're still figuring out our longer-term plans for the product"
- tollie williams
FriendFeed functionality on Facebook would be nice. The reverse, not so much. They're trying to address two entirely separate purposes and as such, need to remain completely separate.
- Adam Reyher
Stay here until FB does something dumb with FF
- Ryan
The rhetoric seems a bit too "Facebook will do what they want with us" and not "we will remain FF and continue forward". Seems as if FB went for the tech and we could lose FF as a seperate entity. Boo.
- Derek Shanahan
confirmed by facebook press release.
- Zac Bowling
Love 'em or hate 'em....Facebook made a phenomenal purchase.
- Kevin Pruett
I see a ton of Wall Spam. Facebook users just don't get it when you port your twitter updates over. There is too much for them to wrap their heads around. This will be a hard transition.
- Ryan Cummins
And I was REALLY getting fond of FriendFeed. From now on only downhill applicationwise?
- Bart
Not happy about this. I use Facebook, but don't like it. It reminds me of AOL from 10 years ago.
- David Sharpe
I agree that I don't want FB to mess up FF, but this will also give FF a higher profile and bring in many more users...which we may or may not like, judging by what happened on Twitter. I hope FF doesn't die off like Jaiku because I really think FF offers a more valuable and useful interface.
- Cathryn Hrudicka
One thing to consider is this: If we have "trusted" the FriendFeed people not to screw things up, hopefully we can trust them to make sure they're still in control in the terms of the acquisition.
- Adam Reyher
What's it going to be called? Failbook?
- Ian Tindale
I hope this is a joke.. Damn it, I dont like Facebook now there is nowhere to go... F***
- Jacque
I am trying to imagine how this will be a good thing for existing FF users. It feels so right and so wrong all at once!...Maybe at least my kids and wife will finally get what I've been ignoring them for over the past year.
- Thom Kennon
Is that means we're going to see more extremist groups around, now that FB has acquired FF?
- Nir Ben Yona
so where do all the cool kids go now? we need another startup, stat!
- h1ro
I am afraid... what johnny2009 have said can really be the future... soon friendfeed will = Jaiku
- Ahmed Mubbashir Khan
Damn,I've just"got friendfeed,and i love it.I definately don't like facebook.What does it mean for twitter?
- Paul Downing
Any investors want to predict the buyout price?
- Kevin Pruett
am gonna wait for google wave... coz in facebook, i cant access the complete stream for a month ago, the site goes down very often while browsing, and privacy issues galore!! congratulations for friendfeed but its jus me!!!
- Gtp19
Maybe we´re seeing here one of FriendFeeds biggest discusions ever. I´m sceptic about the future of FF as a standlone service...
- Torsten Eckert
What concerns me most is what happens to my friends here (and that I have to interact with my friends THERE). Will we have to be friends to interact in the same way we have the last couple of years?
- jcunwired
This is very good for FriendFeed as long as Facebook doesn't corrupt them. I would have preferred to see Google buy FF but I know with their focus on Wave I don't think it would have been a good fit. I like the Facebook platform, but they have done too many shady things in the past for me to trust them.
- Adam Teece
all of the conversation is happening on FriendFeed and Twitter - nothing on Facebook. Think we'd scare away Facebook if everyone starts having lots of conversations there - like on Scoble's fan page?
- Stuart Miniman
They can or don't have to fix FF's FB app now.
- ydfeed
All I can think of is now a lot of people can feel the pain the dedicated Pownce community felt, but at least you're not getting shut down, just yet.
- Mike Lewis
I'm not a big facebook user, but my gut feeling is that like twitter buying summize, it will mark the end of major innovations. I hope I'm wrong. But they should totally go with the facefeed mashup name.
- motownmutt
I dont see any potential for competition with twitter FB and Twitter serve different purposes as does FriendFeed
- iluvblackwomen
Sorry but renaming Facebook to 'Facefeed' is utterly stupid.
- Alex Knight
does making google reader more social has anything to do with this buyout??!
- Gtp19
yeah this was good for facebook. bad for anyone who liked friendfeed.
- Liz
FriendFeed is very good, a better way to use Twitter & etc. Knowing this, I still rarely use FF. Not going to start using Facebook more.
- Nicole
Actually, this could be death for Twitter when you think about it. The people I know who are in FB are not likely to add TWO more nets to their lifestream. FriendFeed makes more sense for them. Maybe Twitter just stays as the dumb pipe it's become for many of us here.
- Thom Kennon
Echoing what others have said - My guess: Facebook will get better, Friendfeed will get worse, Twitter will matter a lot less.
- Matthew Blaisdell
Good for FB UI and search, questionable for the FF community and its independent spirit ...
- Bo Stern
The main reason why I came to FF was because when I tried to treat FB the same as FF, i was talking to a wall. At least people interact here. At FB, it's all about the cheesy games/apps.
- Matthew Horton
from iPhone
Just like most acquisitions, it could be good and it could be bad. I trust that FriendFeed will live on as FriendFeed, only sharing their tech with Facebook. Possibly more integration between the two sites. If you were FF/FB, what would you do?
- Nick Humphries
Twitter, Friendfeed and Facebook are three entirely different animals. Facebook eats Friendfeed and poops out little bits of content that once belonged to us. Twitter continues to thrive as the broadcast conversation-wannabe that it always was.
- jcunwired
Nick - think again. Its going to go away - read the tea leaves in this statement: "Your data will not go away any time in the near term future - we are committed to our users" - Bret Taylor in this post https://friendfeed.com/friendf...
- jcunwired
Facebook must want real time soc-net search badly...
- martin smith
The biggest thing here, at least within the Twitter context, is that this merger will combine 'verified' identity (in terms of Facebook user ID being slightly more 'real' than Twitter) with real time status updates.
- Dan Patterson
I'm looking forward to what this brings to Facebook. I have enjoyed both networks but wondered when FriendFeed/Facebook would face-off and/or be absorbed by the other. I think FriendFeed's tech will improve the Facebook experience.
- Jacob Sloan
FriendFeed + Twitter = disruptive. FriendFeed + Facebook = one more app for FB . Facebookers dont know the power of FriendFeed. I agree with : "" So FB failed to buy Twitter, - so they buy FF which is just a UI for twitter.. - Nick Halstead ""
- Rocky
Most likely scenario is Facebook assimilates the FriendFeed guys, has them work on improving Facebook newsfeed/realtime/status, and lets FriendFeed die a slow unmaintained death.
- Richard Akerman
Well, my friends on FB doesn't give a damn about sharing links, news, pics, vids etc. So I'm not sure how I will use FB+FF now. I don't think FriendFeed will exist, just implemented in Facebook. The name FriendFeed will die. And: on FB you don't want the whole world to see everything you're doing, just your friends. And it will stay this way. So the question is: Who will build the new FriendFeed?
- Patrik Johansson
Do this mean, by the way, that we (the FriendFeed users) should start to connect with each other on FB? How will they like that? People who get's 2-3 maybe 4000 connections?
- Patrik Johansson
Robert, it means all the time you invested building friends lists and updates there will go to Facebook :-)
- Loic Le Meur
could someone start to develop a Frienfeed clon , please ? ASAP !
- Rocky
Seems bloody terrible from this users perspective. Good for Friendfeed the company though.
- Quasar
Given Facebook's past, this could be really bad. Given FriendFeed's past, this could be really good. No real way to speculate without talking to the FF crew.
- xero
+3273 Quasar! (one for each of my Likes, already on a death march)
- jcunwired
Robert, do you know if Facebook is going to put on limits here at FF??? Oh crikey... so much for our citizen journalism here.... Admittedly I am bummed. Uber bummed.
- Arleen Anderson
your blog is the most important thing you can own on the web. these sites can come and go. it's a great social point but true friends you've made here you talk outside of ff, right?
- Terry O'Fee
from BuddyFeed
It's a good time to sell to Facebook, cause Google Wave is imminent and is going to destroy all of Facebook, Twitter and FriendFeed. I think FriendFeed employees might even go back to Google eventually as soon as their contracts with Facebook are up.
- Charbax
Robert - wow. just wow I am stunned. Sorta sad actually. I love FF innovation and don't want to see that stop !!!!!
- Susan Beebe
(RE: Your tweet earlier) When you say the minor league team going to the majors, I don't always feel that this is a positive thing. As in this case, it's like Ferrari being acquired by Ford. I don't think I like this acquisition.
- Richard Merritt
the free ride couldn't last forever. I know it sucks that things will change, but they've got a lot more sense than Twitter has about these things..
- Terry O'Fee
from BuddyFeed
You must all assimilate to the new FaceFeed
- Jonathan.Rivera
From what I'm gathering, this acquisition is more about FB acquiring the talented engineers of FF than it is about the FF software itself. A smart play by FB. Unfortunate for us that value FF. I personally feel that FB is just slowly becoming the new Myspace. Which I don't think I need to explain how lame that is.
- Richard Merritt
If you ignore all the crappy apps and just comment and post photos, your main feed on Facebook is fundamentally a pretty similar experience to FriendFeed - people post stuff, people comment on it. That is, at-least, the way my network tends to use Facebook. The main difference is that Facebook defaults to being very closed and private while FriendFeed defaults to being very open and...
- Edward Coffey
edward - pretty much. it's FF for the layman. remember back in the day they used to have forums too?
- Terry O'Fee
friendfeed is very cliquey. you have your group of people who usually gather round for conversations. now imagine some of this friendfeed stuff in facebook. done right it will help them a lot.
- Terry O'Fee
from BuddyFeed
I don't think I am liking this but FB does need to add the "edit" feature like on here.
- Marika Dye
FF acquisition is expected. But, as a user, I would be bumned, if FF would become a feature of FB. As, I tend to use Twitter as my social network and not FB.
- Vasu Srinivasan
It doesn't make much sense talking about 'Facefeed" and 'Friendbook'... Facebook simply bought a cool 12-people company called Friendfeed for its great search technology paying 15M plus some shares, which is really very cheap in this context, given the value of FF's technology (as it is perceived by us). They are also hiring the talented FF team, which makes the deal even more interesting for FB. Probably there are also some deeper hidden motives and implications that I am not able to get.
- Liviu Barbat
I would love it if Facebook integrated the FriendFeed features. I would love it if Facebook had FriendFeed's flexibility with Facebook's privacy control. It sucks that the world may lose FriendFeed, but it is great the Facebook will likely get better.
- Andrew
Andrew, Facebook will get better - over time. There won't be any Vulcan website meld of FB and FF overnight.
- Bill Sodeman
thank god someone understands that, andrew. it's like "i liked this band better before they went to a major label!" ;)
- Terry O'Fee
Bill - But we can dream, can't we? :) I mean, what I love about Facebook is that I'm interacting with my friends as my friends, not as usernames and avatars. But I hate their bookmarklet, the weird delays when I post anything, the comment system, and I hate the Photo gallery tech. I love the FriendFeed community, but would love bringing the FriendFeed technology over to Facebook even more. If only Facebook could buy Flickr next...
- Andrew
as long as fb start thinking in creative commons terms... one day ..
- Terry O'Fee
they are both great services I think will be a good thing
- Logan Lindquist
oh NO! I don't spend much time at FB (everybody there's too busy playing stupid games, at least in my little network), and besides it's more private unlike FF. And now they've gone and bought FF? And I just joined! I guess I won't be around here for long, since FF won't...
- Dennis Jernberg
No mention of Yahoo. Totally irrelevant these days. Sad.
- Scott Schnaars
This deal makes sense! Now fb developers do not need to figure out how ff does it because they can just ask!
- Garin Kilpatrick
One of my facebook accounts got closed up. Into this account I fed my friendfeed. And into friendfeed I fed for example my socialmedian shares, diggs, stumbles etc.
- Wilhelm Bauer
Time for the next generation app. *Taps foot impatiently for Google Wave*
- Karen Masullo
I don't think it's about getting Friendfeed it's self; but having the developers and the information about real-time search.
- Chris Martin
Hoping this will lead to an improved/cleaner interface for Facebook...I prefer Friendfeed
- Rick Bucich
so, so sad. I like(d) Friendfeed much more than facebook
- Francisco Kemeny
home run for FF.. Facebook will be able to give developers a treasure trove of data one thing that Twitter is dominating on right now. Twitter has a huge developer community but isn't managing that. Here FB is poised to be huge
- John Furrier
So classic that Robert has the first interview about this...Where's Louis? :)
- Anthony Farrior
How do they plan to mix the teenagers with the geeks?
- Jordi Soler
Amani: I am excited! Facebook has 800 employees and 300 million users. This makes both companies much more important.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
here was a comment on SiliconANGLE blog .. very funny .. "Hey, since we've copied almost every innovation you've had, guess you might as well play on the company softball team!"
- John Furrier
Nice strategic move - Interesting to see how this will integrate and looks in 12 months
- Alex Vermeule (@alexve)
to be honnest I was predicting google offer, then facebook preceed google on this, they are doing well, now rarding FF this is great, the sucess is to know when to pass to something else, the future will make the abtle wave, facebook rude for all geek it is time to code.
- abdellah
You rascal Robert, bet you had wind about FriendFeed and FaceBook merger before today? Yes? Have not used either SM apps. much UNTIL Twitter locked my account. May have been a fortunate mishap as it turns out. Getting to know the beauties of both apps. =)
- SashaKane
do you have a small amount of FriendFeed shares Robert?
- Torsten Eckert
NOOOOOOO. Damnit! I am praying that Facebook doesn't wall up Friendfeed. I was starting to build a site around Friendfeed :(
- beersage
beersage: as Facebook is trying to break their users into a more public world, I doubt that you really have anything to worry about there.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Starting to listen to this now. Hoping you are right, Rob.
- beersage
I hope so to. But regardless, I think that it was in reality necessary for FriendFeed to sell to really put the technology in front of a sufficient number of eyeballs. Facebook is probably the best acquirer that FriendFeed could have. (I would have not felt the same had FF been acquired by Google)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
The thing with Friendfeed though is how I can share things outside of a 'wall.' I prominently feature the FF widget on my site. I'm just concerned of losing that capability as I was tinkering with delivering a new site w/ content primarily running through my Friendfeed account. I am to this day unable to do much outside of the wall. I am unable to subscribe to Fan Page updates in Google reader for instance. That is what concerns me about FB acquiring FF given my goals.
- beersage
Robert sounded quite breathless in that interview. Thanks Robert.
- Roberto Bonini
Wow! I'm in shock. I can't wait to hear this interview.
- Micah Wittman
from iPhone
This deal was about getting Paul and the team and nothing else
- Stephen Pickering
@stephan, are you serious? FB is buying a concept, a technoloie, a structure, a content and a user list
- abdellah
now how could a team that left google resist under a unique perception system, where the leader vision is upon any thing
- abdellah
Unconvincing Paul Buchheit, the team is more exited of being part of bigger story - logical for them to move on
- patrickdh
They want a way to turn their white pages into a yellow pages and the only guy on Earth who knows how to do it, is Paul
- Stephen Pickering
It was only about the technology and the people. Most people are on also FB anyway.
- James Myatt
My guess is that Paul got a tooooooooon of options and will soon be the No.2 guy at Facebook
- Stephen Pickering
Glossing over of that "short term" question by the FF boys. It just seems more about the individuals at FF than it does the users of FF. "Their (Facebook) long term goals" Nice interview, Robert!
- Melanie Reed
Well, it looks as if pass-through of FriendFeed Likes, Comments, etc. to Twitter is down. Will it be for good? Did Twitter do this in response to the acquisition? Or is it just a regular (though curiously timed) hiccup?
- Alex Schleber
this is why your own personal website is always more important than friendfeed, Twitter and all the rest. that's never going anywhere
- Terry O'Fee
from BuddyFeed
I like the idea, but not the name. Seems kind of bias right off the bat. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the innovation that Google brings to the table, but to name the freakin' show after Google?? Can you tell that I am a big fan of Dvorak :)
- rodney.franklin
Think it was a big mistake to put the name "google" in the title, but will probably be a great show anyways.
- Steven Legault
this is great, so much to talk about, and so much to learn. I think most people have no idea the range of services that are emerging from both Google and Amazon related to cloud services that will be invaluable for the small or start-up business as well as consumers....
- Howie Schechtman
Can't wait! A new and exciting podcast for a new and exciting era of computing!
- Josh Rosen
Oh no!!! Not more Leo Podcasts!!! :-) Sure I'll be there!
- Richard Bitting
Can't wait, Leo! I'll subscribe immediately. This is an excellent topic and I'm really glad to see the best podcast network on the Internet jumping right in to cover it.
- Eric Geller
I'm really interested to see how this show goes. This is a big topic heading into our future.
- Mike Nayyar
I'm not fond of the "Google" in the name either, it's like calling a car show "This Week in Gerneral Motors". But I'll try to listen in to the taping anyways, should be funny & knowledgable with the three of you.
- Martin
This sounds like a good show, and nice graphics! But how do you have time leo?! Sometimes during somewhat slow news weeks there is some overlap in news like macbreak and twit which can sometimes be annoying but still great shows as I'm sure this one will be as well. WIll jeff and gina always be there or more of a twit interchangeable style?
- Denis Dervisevic
Looking forward to it, I love your other shows and Gina Trapani is great.
- Brandon Eaker
All things Google. Not all things Twitter? LOL Should be interesting. I was listening when you spoke of this show as a, maybe. I'll be there.
- D Lets
Ready to listen to the big three Windows Weekly, MacBreak Weekly and This Week in Google...TWiT is in a class by itself.
- Christopher Knopick
Windows Weekly is the best because Paul does something 90% of the TWiT network hosts don't do: RESEARCH!
- Mark
Should call it "this week in the clouds"
- Stan
from iPhone
Gina is great, as is Jeff. I really look forward to seeing how this show develops.
- Lori Todd
Google is taking over the world. Chrome OS = Android 2.0 for large laptop screens, Google Voice on Android and White Spaces will kill the $1 Trillion Telecom and ISP industry, you should talk about those ARM processor based netbooks that are coming out with Chrome browser in the next few months, they will take over the whole laptop market and start costing $150 with no contracts.
- Charbax
Great show Leo. Great way to kick off Sunday morning. will try with hangover next week
- guydownunder
from iPhone
TWiG was great! It really makes me want to dive into the cloud. :)
- Curt Tweedle
There is one This Week in Google podcast in iTunes, but it's not this one ;)
- Reijo
Someone else already took the name? Naughty Leo for not checking lol
- Mark
from iPhone
Mark, they did one episode and it was 2 years ago. I don't think they'll have any issues with the president of the internet using the same title...
- MλTT
It would be ironic if it was the twitvid folks who made the podcast hehe. Leos show was much better anyways
- Mark
from iPhone
I have been looking forward to this show since you first announced it. Thanks!
- Bruce Vittetoe
Gina T. mentioned y'day it wasn't up on iTunes yet, but they were working on it. Sounds like another TWiT winner!
- Rob Greco
from email
Great what a good idea since Google seems to run the show/
- Rob Cairns
Gina's great, glad to hear about it, Leo, thanks.
- randulo
Looking for it on iTunes here too, nothing yet.
- Andrew Leahey
Take a while to appear on iTunes. Meanwhile you can add it manually to iTunes with the following URL: http://leo.am/podcasts/twig Thanks for listening!
- Leo Laporte
What was that thing that Jeff Jarvis brought up at about 46:00 and it sounded like; Prezee or Prez-e? I have looked on Google and I found nothing.
- AquaGeneral
I wonder how many people and companies are changing their passwords and policies this morning because of #twittergate and http://www.techcrunch.com/2009... ? I know I am, I was doing a few of the stupid practices that caught Twitter.
Robert on the network side of things there are programs that generate strong passwords. But you can develop a "feel" for it. I have to create them all the time. Just don't use "memory aids" they lead to social hacks
- Melanie Reed
You're okay if you don't use 3rd party apps to login to Twitter, right?
- Steven E. Streight
I have no need because my passwords have always been 12+ characters, include caps, random characters, and numbers. I'm sure most people that use FF are the same way. The engineers I work with bitch about my choice of passwords all the time.
- coldbrew
The sad reality is any password can be hacked. It's just a matter of time as in attrition. But you can make it harder for them with strong passwords
- Melanie Reed
I use Lastpass.com to generate and save passwords.
- mrshl
Yeah, we've always tried to make sure our hosting customers understand how important it is create good passwords, but many still use bad passwords, hopefully all of this recent press will scare them into using better passwords. Most people don't care about their password until something bad happens to them. It's similar to people who ignore making backups and then find out the hard way.
- Scott Beale
Just pick a couple good ones that you can use for different things. Practice typing them so you can remember the keystrokes easier. The more you use them the easier it will be to remember. Use keepass or FFox to keep track of them.

Melanie: it's the social hacks that will catch the most people. Not the strength of the passwords. Notice that he didn't need to guess the passwords, he just needed to use the ecosystem against itself.

Robert: yes. its the easiest hack to employ

Or there's a business requirement . e.g. Customers inquire about policies based on what they've read in the news and impose requirements on their partners.

Unfortunately most companies don't change passwords until they have too, the IT department doesn't want to deal with the calls when someone can't remember there password.
- Kim Landwehr
my 14 character alphanumeric pass for my gmail account was hacked about 2mo ago. After fixing, Ive gone and changed all passes; & none of them are of the same ilk. my twitter account is the simplest; cause i care less if its hacked.

The best thing to happen to corporate security was the public insecurity of Microsoft software int the late part of the 90s and earlier in the decade.

FTR, I use Keepass (hosted on sourceforge).

I had to change everything and cancel 2 cards.

I use GRC to gen and never use anything less than 20 chars unless the site doesn't support that length. Sometimes I use the first 20 in a 64 bit key, sometimes I use the last 20, sometimes I pick the middle 20. Sometimes I use 21, 22, 23, 19 char length. I also lie on all reminder questions.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I use a hosted version of clipperz (http://clipperz.com/), totally random passwords, web accessible from anywhere and hosted on my own server.
- Justin Yost
same here, Justin. I use lastpass which generates random passwords, and has one master password, which is a very secure one.

A couple of months ago, my gmail was hacked. They then quickly went and changed my Itunes account over to another email and started buying iphone apps. In the about an hour and a half, that they had control over my email they spent almost $1000. Luckily they made the mistake of changing the name and language on my account. I don't use the email much anymore but g reader so I spotted it....

for years, private corporate systems have had security measures like password strength policies for a domain, password age policies, secure connection requirements, logon policies that deny multiple logons, locking out user accounts after multiple password failures, etc. etc. etc. this incident with Twitter is a huge wake-up call.

What first caught my eye was this article was written by Nik Cubrilovic. I had wondered what had happened to him, and hoped everything was well with him.
- Lloyd Budd
Yeah, Nik was in the TechCrunch office when I was there the other day. I figured a big story was underway cause Arrington told me to stop wasting Nik's time and to go bug the interns. :-)

Making an awesomely strong password wouldn't have prevented this attack. It was using the same awesomely strong password that made the attack possible. And who hasn't done that? There's just too many apps that require passwords out there.
- marziah
I typically use KeePass to generate as strong a password as I can. I try to keep passwords to a minimum of 20 characters and use letters, numbers and symbols...some sites allow this some do not. If there is a password character max I will use that max (within reason). The problem I have is with some of the accounts I want to be able to access from my Blackberry. Having a 50 character...

I use RoboForm to create all my passwords. I have them backed up and honestly couldn't type one out if I tried, they all are 14-16 chars long
- George Handlin
+1 George. A good pw generator like RoboForm or 1password can save you a lot of grief later on.
- Bill Sodeman
interesting experiment, make accounts at free websites and have really awful passwords and see how long it takes to get hacked!
- Mark
I agree with Sean Brady, makes it tough entering on the blackberry. Especially how sometimes it will cap the first character and when it's masked, makes it even tougher. Wish there was something I could host on my own server that would work with all my machines (Win/Mac) and my phones. I don't like the idea of storing on some hosted service. Thinking of trying RoboForms hosted service since they are trusted and I've gained personal trust for the application.
- George Handlin
It makes me anxious not knowing my password is for a particular site... so I've always been wary of things like 1password or roboform. I also need something that I can pull up from any computer, which rules out 1password. I've heard good things about supergenpass
- Mark Philpot
Justin - @jtyost2 - I just checked out www.clipperz.com for the password mgmt, looks promising, but wish there were better integration w/ Firefox somehow. It's pretty cumbersome to get started.
- Alex Schleber
thanks 4 reminder should do it now arrgh!! as we speak!!
- polou/indigo_bow
Robert due to all the virus issues we went to a more secured password format 3 months ago. We use a minimum of 8 characters numbers letter and mixed case password plus you can not use your name. We force our users to change their passwords every 3 months.

I think for a security policy to be effective it has to be secret...
- Alexandros Georgiadis
KeePass (Win) and KeePassX (cross platform) is excellennt! Strong public encryption and publicly available source code. I would love to go with LastPass, they have a beautiful cross platform syncing solution, but since they are closed source (for now) I'm holding off switching to their product.
- Daniel Chow
I stopped using the same password years ago. To help me keep up with the various passwords, I have been using KeePass on Windows, Windows Mobile and OS X for several years; I'm waiting for iKeePass to become available.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Yep the 'ecosystem' is undoubtedly insecure. I believe this type of hacking also has elements of social engineering to it. I dislike the "secret questions" as today when most people's personal information is transparent online what purpose do those questions serve, except to weaken security? Can we please opt out of dumb security questions... someone start a petition or something!
- ASKJDOG
Great Post, I learned more about improving my security in 15 minutes than I would have at a 2 day seminar. :)
- Robert Higgins
I hope the lasting legacy of twittergate is better security thanks to articles like this one.
- Stephen Mack
I use http://passwordmaker.org/ for most of my password, it means I only need to remember a single password and it generates a unique password for each site I use (by hashing my password with the url). For the remaining sites, I use http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/ and dropbox to sync my password database across machines.
- Wilka Hudson
I see many people using/recommending password generator sites. I also recommend these, but one day I thought - what if the password generators are hacked? --> http://robotterror.com/site...
- Robert J Taylor
Password Maker (the first link) isn't just a password generator site - I use it as a FireFox plugin. It's also open source, so if you're really unsure about the safety of it you can have a look at the code yourself. I realise that's not a very good answer for an non-coders, but it does mean that if it was hacked *somebody* would notice and it would be all over blogs like Bruce Schneier http://www.schneier.com/blog/
- Wilka Hudson
I think unless we develop somethig better than passwords we will never fix the problem. Using different strong passwords is good but it's no better than locking a cycle up outside a store, they just ensure that only dedicated people hack your acount/steal your cycle, which in general are the worst people to hack your account.
- Darren Rollett
Some people on here have informed the world what their password policy is and what tool they use to generate passwords. If this had been a conversation down the pub then probably not a problem but if I want information on high value passwords FriendFeed would probably be the place to go due to the people who use the system.
- Darren Rollett
Nobody has mentioned https://mashedlife.com - it uses a bookmarklet to log you into your sites. That way you can use anything for the password. Cliperz looks like a similar system.
- Daniel Siva
Tyson, I have tried it. :) What I would love to see next is the ability to log in to FriendFeed and see lists flow by in each column. That would be very interesting.
- Louis Gray
Well, it's certainly ambitious in scope, but a basic requirement for me is decent scrolling - something that, on my macbook at least, other clients such as Tweetie and Nambu have no problem with.Yeah, I know, they don't cover Facebook updates, but I find I'm adequately catered to on that score by..well, Facebook. Maybe the dodgy scrolling thing is an AIR issue - I plead ignorance there - but it means, at least for me, that Seesmic falls at the first hurdle..
- Andy Connell
the collapsed threads "gmail" type view is pretty hard to read IMO
- Bill Kinney
Re my previous comment - sorry, you're talking about the browser-based version, not the AIR app.. although I just tried it, and it still scrolls like a dog. Can't really understand how people put up with that..
- Andy Connell
Looks pretty good so far. Only two minor gripes that I've seen with it - no obvious way to view various statistics (e.g. Followers/Following/Posts) although that might be related to API limits, and no obvious way to delete Tweets with errors in them. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or just not looking in the right places though.
- Tyson Key
Looks great, I'm just not interested in any twitter app that takes over my whole screen. Probably the reason I love tweetie.
- Ted Roden
Andy, I agree with you about the scrolling in the AIR app. If it's any consolation, Tweetdeck has the same problem. I've tried the browser interface and love it. For the time being it's replaced even Tweetie for Mac, which has been pretty unbeatable up until now. Lemon, you mouse over pictures or usernames to see the basic information you're looking for. Click on usernames to get a full profile.
- John Ladd
Ted, their desktop app can now be reduced to a single column view that takes up very little space.
- Jimminy Fuller
Tried it, but doesn't support multiple Twitter accounts yet. That's a shame! I would really like a solid browser interface to get rid of AIR.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
I wish the web version would sync with the groups set up on the AIR app. Also, I was hoping v0.4 would make it easier to add people to groups (e.g. using checkboxes like Tweetdeck)
- Andre P. Siregar
I really liked the web interface. The only problem is that I could not post anything while on a eeePC 701 (7" inch screen), the update button was off to the right where I could not click it, other than that, I'll be using it all the time..
- John Serra
Loving the Web app...specially since I don't need to use Air anymore. Since most of us live in the browser anyway, I don't know why anyone would mind to leave a Seesmic tab open all the time or use it for heavy Tweeting action and just post updates from other apps like Digsby.
- Manuel Mas
Yep Louis- Seemsic with it's new web app is now THEE twitter app, in my opinion.
- Jim Connolly
Will have to try it out though about the taking over of the whole screen why not Use Ubuntu or a Linux variant that offers multiple workspaces, that way if it takes up a whole workspace it would not matter because you can have other processes running in other windows, or try #Prism, however you approach it.
- Ubuntu101
I think both PeopleBrowsr and Hootsuite beta is way better.
- Svartling
Lateral scrolling in Seesmic Web feels very slow compared to Peoplebrowsr.
- Sean McBride
Louis said: "Seesmic has done more than just clone its Desktop version in the browser. The new service has a new feature that collapses updates into a single line, looking like the headline-only version of Gmail or Google Reader, essentially letting you see more updates than ever before in one place." Isn't it obvious that Friendfeed should provide an option for something like this?
- Sean McBride
@Louis: I agree with the FriendFeed comment you made above. That's my main reason for not interacting in FF quite as much, bc I feel tethered to the FriendFeed site. I just want to find one client that works across all my social media--in a good way--without my having to think about it.
- Lynne d Johnson
we will continue to improve it daily, it's much easier to iterate on a web based version than ship updates

I know I'm not a guy, but I do wear ties sometimes. I go for the Half Windsor for casual looks. The 4 in Hand for a more formal look.
- Admiral Anika
I always use Four in Hand, but the blokes in our London office seem to feel that is uncouth and anything but a Windsor is unacceptable.
- Christopher A. Wichura
Pretty sure I do a Windsor, but I don't wear ties very often.
- Jordan Hofker
Used to be Four in Hand (I actually thought it was a Half Windsor until just now) but then I learnt how to do a Windsor a few years ago, so I always do that now. Never seen the Shell before. That looks pretty interesting…
- Tony Ruscoe
from fftogo
When I do it myself, four in hand. When a lady is doing it for me, usually a windsor.
- Beau Liening
I think Four In Hand. Never think about it though. Would you believe once I started wearing ties again, I just googled "How to Tie A Tie"? So... I've done it the way that video said ever since. :)
- Louis Gray
4 In Hand or Half-Windsor. 4 in Hand is most versatile, but some of my shirts require the Half-Windsor because the collar is so wide. I need to learn some more knots though...
- Chrimmus Tad
from fftogo
Four-in-hand, although I had no idea how it was called. I'll play around with the other ones the next time I'm going to wear a tie -- some of my ties are too long, and the four-in-hand knot is often slightly uneven.
- Tudor Bosman
from email
I am relieved to know that the four-in-hand is a legit tie knot. I always felt a little embarrassed thinking I didn't know the "real" way to knot a tie.
- invariant - farewell FF
The full Windsor knot is just too bulky for anything but the best silk ties. At school I was lazy and wore a four-hand knot, but on the rare occasions that I sport a tie now it's the half-Windsor
- Slappy Line
I see that I invented Windsor by myself(i.e. none showed me but I knot windsor). Four in hand is the most popular style in Turkey btw.
- Burak "cyrus" Bayburtlu

I ran the Men's Furnishings area at Robinson's (when there was a JW Robinson's) and men would call have us pick 5 shirts and 5 ties to go with a couple suits for a week long business trip. Almost everyone of them asked that we tie the tie and put it on the shirt so they could loosen it - and wear it without re-tieing the tie! My knot of choice? Half Windsor!
- Robyn Hawk
learned to do a four in hand myself after watching someone else do it. However, I detest ties - horrible things. Was forced to wear one thru school and when I started work. After the 4th time I caught it under my knee while crawling under desks I refused to wear one. When I did one of my vertical slice episodes last month where I dressed up as the spy from TF2 was the first time I had worn a tie since about 2002. No time for them soul sappers. Next up, abolition of the suit! ;)

Actually, after looking at this again, I do the Full Windsor

I think as a leader you are always growing and changing. As you move up your skills will continue to develop and get better.

What is the purpose of the class - why do you want to learn everything about leadership? Is it to improve the participants leadership skills or just to tickle their curiosity? If you really want your class to improve their abilities to lead, you need to put them in a position where they do lead. People learn from what they do. So go ahead and give each participant (or group of participants) a challenge: lead us out of this crisis!

Jeff: +1 you make a great point. A person does not have to be a top dog, so to speak, to be a leader. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes. (Statuses too)
- Sheryl
WOW. The class was blown away by seeing this happen in real time. THANK YOU!!!!
- Robert Scoble
Robert: How many in the class already use FF?
- Sheryl
I would love to stay here longer, but I have a presentation in 20 min. Sorry If I did not respond to any comments. Robert, I hope the class had fun!
- Jeff
are you looking to train a new leader or just come up with metrics for identification, Mr Scoble?

Robert: And how many will be on FF tomorrow? Show of hands?
- Ken Camp
Robert: WOW! That's amazing! We can still teach those young whippersnappers a thing or two! WOOHOO! :)
- Sheryl
And was there somebody to film them being blown away? :-)

What an amazing accumulation of thoughts and links to pursue. Thanks for mentioning it on Twitter.

Never try to lead people. It doesn't work. Better off building and guiding a team. If you can organize a team that works well together, you'll spend less time trying to hold the team together and more of your energy guiding them and being productive. Treat every team member with respect. If you don't listen to them, they will not listen to you. Keep your ego and temper in check. It...

Leadership & personal development often go together. I'm inspired by @BrianKlemmer & http://klemmer.com. Repetition & Experience are best ways to remember & learn. Leadership is a choice and an ongoing way of life.

Leaders who inspire me have the knowledge: "If I can see further than anyone else, it is only because I am standing on the shoulders of giants" Newton, etc. do not pop up in blogs much, but it seems the game changers know exactly who to thank.

I'm sure this is mostly finished by now. However, I thought I'd add that the Horatio Hornblower novel series, by C.S. Forester is a wonderful lesson in leadership. I believe that the series is required reading at at least one of the US's military academies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Google Wave is among the coolest, most exciting products I've played with online. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009.... Just announced at Google I/O and developers there will get access soon. Public access, alas, months away.
Does this supersede all other social & communication projects @ Google? Bunch of solutions (gReader sharing, FriendConnect) going away fro Wave?
- Ruud Hein
Interesting Adam. Will have to look at this more closely.
- Hutch Carpenter
Anyone got some good 3rd party writeups on Wave yet? It sounds like it's right up my alley and I'd love to know more.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Ruud... I don't know, and couldn't tell you if I did know :o. Hutch, there's certainly enough coverage to check out now :D! Not sure if the demo video's been released, but the demo got massive applause here at the 'plex and earned a standing ovation at Google I/O, so the minute a video's available online, go watch it :-). Daniel, you might want to check out this page on Google Code: http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2009...

Thx Ruud! Adam - my office blocks Blogspot still so I'll have to figure out a way to read that later.
