This was private for a long time, but I might as well share now. After I first visited Superfly, I randomly had "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" in my head for days. As a birthday present, I made him this video. - http://www.youtube.com/watch...
The pyramid dance will make a lot more sense if you've seen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch... I learned the Charleston way back in a pointe class (Charleston en pointe is a fun twist!), but like so many dances it was the simplified/sanitized "white" version. When I saw the Al & Leon video, I think I crapped my pants & couldn't wait to try it. It's pretty hard!

It's going to be a loooooong time before I manage to edit Crazy Dance 1.1, 1.2, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.14 (all of which are now filmed), so enjoy this for now.

I took ballet for 11 years a kid, along with a sprinkling of jazz, tap, modern, theater dance, gymnastics, and some random one-shot African, break dance, other stuff. But starting at about 9 my school was part of a professional company, and I didn't want to be a professional dancer (plus I wasn't good enough), so I quit. After the foot surgery I thought I'd never dance again, so I'm getting back into it. The thing is, I LOVE TO DANCE. I don't care if it looks good. It's how I express myself.
- Lo the Baker
The dance we're doing at the end is the Madison, as seen in the Godard film "Band A Parte" (aka "Band of Outsiders"). The Madison is referenced in Rocky Horror Picture Show by Brad (after the Time Warp) and I've always wanted to learn it. Madison seemed like a good place to do it (though it was invented in Charleston, apparently it was a global craze in the 60s). Fly diligently learned & practiced it with me despite never really dancing before. I soooo love him for that!
- Lo the Baker
He does make me feel like dancing :D

Fun Fact: That's the world's 6th largest pyramid. It's in Memphis. Apparently it was a stadium but is completely abandoned. This is where I accidentally stopped a construction site, they all came to see what I was doing. If I were less nervous, I would have asked them to dance with me.
- Lo the Baker
Fun Fact: I did 57 takes at the St. Louis Arch. It's basically impossible to dance in front of without a partner to film.
- Lo the Baker
Thanks, Alex! That means a lot, because I watch other dance videos and I think I suck :P I have terrible proprioception, I'm way better in front of a mirror. And it doesn't help if there are people staring/honking/calling mall security :P
- Lo the Baker
AWESOME, Jill, most people aren't up for it. I will be seeing you in IL, then :D
- Lo the Baker
I need to learn The Madison from you. I've wanted to learn it ever since seeing John Waters' Hairspray.
- Spidra Webster
Okay, I'll check out the Hairspray version. It shouldn't be too hard, it's basically just a line dance. If a math geek can learn it in 2 days.... :P
- Lo the Baker
I used to do the Madison back in the hairspray days. It was the only dance I could do because it was a line dance. It was HUGE in Baltimore back then.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
What's amazing about the Madison is when I researched it, I found how-to videos from folks in the US, Mexico, Philippines, a couple places in Africa, and they all did it *exactly* the same way. I can only think of one other dance craze that was that big - Thriller.
- Lo the Baker
Lo, when I looked it up I was seeing videos from the swing scene. As the swing scene is very international, I think it has spread that way. It certainly wasn't worldwide in the '60s.
- Spidra Webster
Awwww, way to destroy my dream with facts :P
- Lo the Baker
At least I still have Thriller to satisfy my jones for a dance that brings the whole world together.
- Lo the Baker
Well, if it was in a Goddard film clearly it got a *little* international.
- Spidra Webster
The funny thing is, the dance in the film isn't really the Madison, they just call it that. It's similar, I guess. It also has really weird timing, it took me hours to make it work with music. Superfly is really into New Wave film, so we went with that (plus it looks pretty cool and has finger snapping). This was back when we were first talking, all part of Operation Re-friend and Seduce Superfly. Apparently it worked :D
- Lo the Baker
Lo, you need to come back to Boston ASAP so we can dance together. At my friend's wedding this weekend, we danced the Time Warp to many a weird look from the non-dancing guests, and nearly danced Thriller... until we realised we couldn't remember the steps.
- Penguin
You know it, Penguin. I just realized I haven't done the Time Warp yet. This trip has been pretty scattered, I need to step up my Crazy Dance game. I can't wait to go to DC with Fly, so I have someone to hold the camera. Will try to get to Boston sometime, too. I really don't want to get a job, because I want to go so many places, how will I have time for work?
- Lo the Baker
This is an awesome video! And so what I needed today to shake me out of my deskdrums (doldrums from my desk)
- Tamara
Hmm, what kind of job could you get that would require traveling BUT also not require that you spend all of your travel time working...
- Penguin
SQUEEEEEEE!!!!! It makes me so happy to watch you dance. One day I WILL be in a crazy dance video!
- <3Heather<3
Tamara, glad to help! MC, I wish I had realized you & Jill were both up for it, I would have made y'all dance with me at your library. Heather, yes you WILL. Penguin, I ask myself that question every hour these days.
- Lo the Baker
MDV, if someone buys me pointe shoes I'm in. I'm assuming that I can rig up something in the shoe to compensate for my half missing toe.
- Lo the Baker
If I ever fulfill my dream of getting en pointe, you must teach me how to do the Charleston that way!
- Penguin

I told her that she's not allowed to grow anymore and she needs to keep her smiling, laughing, little uber-cuteness forever! Something tells me that she's not going to listen though.
- David Cook
she's gotten so big and I love that proud Papa!
- just ZONED
I just read yesterday that although women make up half the workforce they represent only 25% of science and tech fields. Those are the fields that are growing the most. Women are going to be left behind bigtime if they don't start getting with the program. This is why I put my daughter in an all girls high school. There is was cool to be smart and there wasn't the pressure to act dumb about "boy" subjects.

This would have generated more money in 2008 thanks to considerable downtime. The flip argument is that it would get more money now thanks to increased visitors. Either way, it's a clear opportunity for Twitter.

Four years waiting for a business model and this is all they come up with?

"This is a very big reminder that we can only count on something for the term of the contract, and few of us have a contract with Twitter." - and those that depend on Twitter would be wise to secure a contract with them immediately if they don't have one.

This is the best article I've read about this Twitter situation. From the beginning, I've thought Twitter was very poorly handled. As I said a few years ago to Fred Wilson, when you build a house without electricity and plumbing, expecting to add those in later, you're going to have huge problems. I expect Wilson and the other Twitter investors will ultimately lose big. It's a shame their developers will go down with them.
- Dawn
I think they've already fairly well assured themselves of a significant return. If the "lose big" it will only be in comparison to what they could have had if they played their cards better.

"When it comes to the Tea Party movement, the stereotypes don’t tell the whole story. Here’s what you often see in the coverage of Tea Party rallies: offensive posters blasting President Obama and Democratic leaders; racist rhetoric spewed from what seems to be a largely white, male audience; and angry protesters rallying around the Constitution... But here’s what you don’t often see in the coverage of Tea Party rallies: Patriotic signs professing a love for country; mothers and fathers with their children; African-Americans proudly participating; and senior citizens bopping to a hip-hop rapper."

Errr.. When did the Volvo get "stereotyped as the favorite of liberal elites"? There's clearly some form of political culture here that I am unaware of.

So why is it that after taking leave to study 8 hours a day for the last week, that I do not feel any more confident about today's test for Tech Sergeant?
Thank you for the best wishes! =D Well, I won't find out the results until about June (I know! *That long to figure it out?!*) But I don't think I completely bombed it. I actually knew about 50% of the material on the test. (200 question test that covers several volumes of books of information on my job and general Air Force knowledge) So let's just hope that I guessed well for the other 50%. ;) Thanks again for the support.
