Sigh. I agree John. What a lame ad. The hype from Microsoft is that this is going to be a big PDC. But ads like this make me think that Microsoft is tone deaf and out of ideas. Why not just do an aspirational video where you tease me with what we're going to learn at PDC? I'm seriously considering not going. The economy is crappy and they are putting out stupid stuff like this. Sigh. - Robert Scoble
You completely missed the point. This is viral marketing... Whether you liked the ad or not, you are now aware of PDC and, better still, you are letting everybody in your network know about it. Until 5 minutes ago I had no idea what PDC meant. I didn't know it existed! Besides, if you watched the whole thing you might even have appreceiated the second degree humour in this ad... - Francois Auerbach
forced viral marketing FAIL - Paulo via twhirl
Guys- this is intended to be humorous. There has always been a focus on humor and fun at the PDC. If you don't like it, don't watch. If you're not interested, don't go. :) - Randy Holloway via twhirl
I thought this was stupid until I realized it's a parody. Awesome. - Ambar Pansari
OMG LULZ!!! I'm so going! - LarchOye
Randy: the thing is this was not funny. I think Microsofties need to go to a comedy club. - Robert Scoble
actually the crickets and "leave the coffee" line at the end saved the whole thing. LULZ! - Cameron Reilly via twhirl
You don't get it. The objective is to reach as many people as possible. Far more people watch/discuss crap on Youtube than the amazing HD creations on Vimeo. - Jérôme Flipo
feels like you have been rubbing a mixture of Ajax and cocaine into them for the past week. With a wire brush. - precious! - Nice Fish Films
Am I the only one that enjoys corny humor and think that the commercial is hilarious? - possible248
Just because it's parody doesn't make it good... - felix
Robert, looks like we're outside of the demographic PDC is aiming for. Oh, well. Lots of other things to do. - Loren Heiny
So it's a really bad parody about a another really bad Windows ad? Sigh. That might go down well with the teeny bopper MySpace crowd, but agree with Robert that was lame beyond belief and doesn't inspire me with Windoze 7. - Sally Church
The cringe factor is high, even knowing there's going to be a catch at the end. But the effect is totally lost and is quite lame. There's a simple formula in comedy that the payoff better be worth the wait. Not here. After spending my formative years in Redmond, I just wanna cry. It reminded me of the type of skit 4th graders write for summer camp. - Todd
The first guy to start singing reminds me of Bruce Campbell...if he were Mexican....and a Douche. - Sean McGee
Robert- for something that isn't humorous it sure seems to get a lot of attention. Why not just ignore it? That said, let loose the trolls! ;) - Randy Holloway via twhirl
very disappointing; and the "leave the coffee Brian" line is good but not good enough to redeem the previous 200 seconds. If this is where they are going, I want billg and seinfeld back ;-) - Antoine Bertier
Microsoft sucks - Steve
the boy band went on too long - but who cares. At the end of the day windows 7 will have to be fast and f#$%ing awesome or else PC sales will be in trouble... or a mass exudus to OSX or ubuntu. These ads are doing one good thing for MS. We are suckers, we are talking about it - duh! - DC Crowley via twhirl
When did Friendfeed become slashdot? - Todd Kitta via twhirl
Hey at least they take the piss out of themselves :) PDC will kick butt this year if not for the unveiling of the Live stuff alone. - Chris Johnson

Ask not what FriendFeed can do for you but ask what you can do for FriendFeed. - Robert Scoble
Hi Sarah: A lot of people hide Tweets since "@reply" floods clutter our main feeds. Try posting natively, I'm sure you would've gotten tons of responses. ;) - Mona N.
not at all surprising. most of my requests for help here go ignored. only one questions answered (thank you Vincent X) out of many. Twitter, always comes through. - Faboo Mama
@Robert good point. Highlights the differences between the two services quite clearly. Twitter people are always happy to answer quick questions (aka Twitter polls), FF'ers like to engage in discussions. I am right? - Sarah Perez
Yeah, most people hide Tweets. Expecting responses from them is almost madness. They are too plentiful and usually useless out of context. - Rahsheen™
The only thing we have to FriendFeed is FriendFeed itself. - Mark Trapp
@MOna ++ and also if you post too many tweets right next to each other time-wise, they get a "more..." on most feeds, so no one sees it. - anna awesomesauce
@Rasheen @Mona So FF'ers essentially ignore/hide Tweets now? Interesting. I don't do that. Am I the only one? - Sarah Perez
Sarah - A lot of people hide all Twitter feeds on FriendFeed. Also, that question has been asked quite a few times on FriendFeed...if only friendfeed made their search a bit useful. Robert Scoble started this thread awhile back: http://friendfeed.com/e/8bf924... [update: how long did it take me to write this...apparently 3 people got their "tweets are hidden" in before me. HA!] - Justin Korn
@Justin Thanks for the link. That's helpful. Should have known it's been done. But I was hoping for some more super-fresh apps. It's been like...3 weeks since that post. lol - Sarah Perez
and I think the FriendFeed groups aren't helping -- I wonder if that's why Twitter hasn't enabled those... and also there has to be some sort of @ notification when one of your posts gets replies... come on FF!! - JungleG
Why are people hiding tweets on friendfeed? hrmph... That's how I post most of my stuff - LarchOye
Not surprising at all. Twitter really has most of my attention atm. Now if Tweetdeck added friendfeed I'd be all over it. - Tris Hussey
sarah i don't do hide tweets. it's seems a waste of time when you can just scroll by. if something catches my eye, it's not that hard to click a link to get context. EDITED: i lied. i hid all gtalk updates. that just seems like a ridiculously pointless feed. - Faboo Mama
@LarchOye I'm disappointed to hear that as well. I thought it was a nice way to interact between the 2 services. But if the heaviest of FF'ers hide tweets, then well, isn't FF becoming a bit isolated? - Sarah Perez
Lurch, because most of us more likely use Ping.fm so that would make too much noise for a message for the same thing you posting on FF - Outsanity
I only hide tweets of people who are high-frequency tweeters with a low S/N, but most of the time tweets with likes/comments are not hidden. - £ogical €xtremes
Sarah and Larch - it's a matter of balance. It seems most people don't know how to control multiple postings, so they post something with Ping.fm say and it post to Twitter and FriendFeed. That means I see it twice. It's an annoyance. I do have Tweets show up that have likes and/or comments, but my scrolling patterns seem to ignore them :) - Justin Korn
@Sarah Perez - Yeah I use Ping.fm to post to twitter, plurk, and facebook, and I use friendfeed to read everyone else's posts and such... Seems like the best way to do it for me - LarchOye
@Outsanity - I use Ping.fm, but I don't post to FF with it, I just post to twitter... Maybe I'll have to change that around. The problem is, that I want my stuff posted to both, and I don't want to miss things from users that only use twitter... BAH - LarchOye
Your experiences will vary from the top 20 actives who all seem to believe Twitter on FriendFeed is the devil. It's hard to come up with a representative sample of performance off of a single tweet: for example, I've had no problems getting people to respond to my tweets, even if they are inane. If you're engaging your audience and consistently and reasonably following up with comments, people find your stuff. - Mark Trapp
Sarah, I bet the reason for this is that you only asked your question via Twitter, and many here likely block Twitter in most cases. If you asked your question via internal message, like this, everyone would see it. - Louis Gray
I basically use Ping.fm to post to everywhere, including FriendFeed. I want my posts here to be instant because I'm always here, but I monitor everything (usually). I use Ping.fm for stuff that might start a discussion, which is why I send to FF directly. Bits of Twitter/Identi.ca/Plurk/Jaiku whatever discussion are usually useless. That's why I hide them, unless someone I follow thinks they are worth a look. - Rahsheen™
@louis yep. that's what Mona suggested. But I didn't realize how many ppl block tweets. Not liking. - Sarah Perez
Allow me to also point out that this has been suggested in most of the early posts written about FF when it first got popular a few months ago. If the people that subscribe to you on FF are into Twitter, they will probably carry your tweets by Liking/commenting them, but otherwise...they will probably just disappear - Rahsheen™
Sarah: Also, take into account what Anna said. Sometimes, Tweets are grouped: http://img.skitch.com/20081001... (Screen Shot from someone who never comes to FriendFeed). And even if most of the information you aggregate into FriendFeed is via Twitter, if you pop in throughout the day to respond, people will notice as well. Like this: http://img.skitch.com/20081001... :) - Mona N.
Sorry I hide all tweets. I think if you've posted natively to FF, the response would've been much different like Mona stated. - Alan Le
@Mona: I engage on FriendFeed in chunks of time 2-3x per day (usually)...I go back and like/comment on stuff that I may have missed earlier. I do this because I need to have more structure in order to get my work done. The most active FF'ers seem to pop in and out all day. Does that mean I'm not engaged according to FF standards? - Sarah Perez
Okay now that I'm starting to notice it, the @reply shit IS really annoying... FF should fix it so they come in as comments with their original post - LarchOye
I'm an auto-post from Twitter to FF guy who reads FF on Twhirl guy. I like both. - Douglas Karr via twhirl
There are no standards or rules, Sarah! If you're engaged, then people will take notice. If they don't, it's most likely because of Tweet grouping. :) - Mona N.
I love twitter AND FriendFeed... what can I say? they both are really good, but FF definitely wins on the stability, scalability and community aspects. - Susan Beebe

I believe that this “something” is directly related to our true purpose in life. I also know that our true purpose in life is directly related to something even greater: our direct connection to God and Faith. Now, while I’m not going to try and turn this into a Christian sermon—my lack of qualification not being the least of reasons—I suggest that if you cannot recognize and acknowledge that purpose in life can only be derived from God, by whatever name you call him, then I’m afraid you do not grasp what “purpose” is. And to you I’d offer my deepest sympathies. - DC Crowley
