So you can braid it, Lindsey? Bo Derek style.
- Captain Bubbles
And y'all have to click the link. That's comedy.
- Captain Bubbles
has anyone SEEN the first edition of "The Joy of Sex"? freaking prehistoric bush.
- T. Brent, technopeasant
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think the dude referred to in the article is an idiot.
- ha3rvey (needs soup)
I think you're normal, Harvey and I agree with you.
- Captain Bubbles
Range of preferences, sure, but how can anyone have an objection to the natural state of the human body?
- LogEx
There are a lot of natural states of the human body that aren't necessarily attractive
- Lindsey is Fierce!
Not necessary, but fun. To each their own when it comes to bodyscaping, I say.
- ωαřмaiden, MFA'd poet
If I was with a guy and he got a Brazilian, he'd be outro. Just saying.
- Derrick
I can never get a muff of these sorts of debates.
- Wirehead
So as long as women avoid guys under 30...they're free to be free? Hmm, not quite the answer I wanted.
- Jess
Oh, this reminds me a conversation I had recently with a youngish guy (25), he was talking about this girl he was dating and how shaved she was. He thought it a turn off and porny, but the reason he stopped seeing her was the oral sex. He said, "Man, it's like licking sandpaper in between. I think I shredded my nose. I had to bounce."
- Captain Bubbles
Guys under 30 may talk big, but have you ever seen one walk away from sex on a wax-or-die principle? *snort*
- ωαřмaiden, MFA'd poet
Waxing my brows is enough, tyvm. Guys who have that "you better be waxed" mentality are weird IMO.
- EricaJoy
an "on-again, off-again" lover of mine proclaimed once, over coffee: "All shaved! No more beaver!" Things kinda soured for me after that... just sayin'. ;)
- T. Brent, technopeasant
I object to the assertion that shaving or waxing one's genitals is about being "prepubescent". Sometimes that's just what feels good to people. Your associations with a choice and action aren't everyone's associations.
- Jenica
I love everything about this thread. That is all.

The only thing I liked shaved is a uni-brow. Take that back... Frida was hot!
- Jason

i associate oral sex with gingerbread cookies. but that's just me...
- T. Brent, technopeasant
It wasn't an assertion, Jenica, it was an opinion.
- Captain Bubbles
How comfortable is it when the hair anywhere else on your body grows back in?
- EricaJoy
from IM
Yep. This is my favorite thread today. The only thing I'll have waxed is the eyebrows. I don't even like wearing nail polish, anymore, much less fake tan. The thought of all those extra chemicals on my nails and skin skeeves me out.
- vicster
I can't imagine either having the hair ripped out or growing it back in would be comfortable. I'll stick with short front & sides, thanks.
- Mellissa Claus
I shave my armpits. No one's ever asked me to & I certainly don't *need* to. I started doing it in college (because my girlfriend did, & I didn't think it was fair for her to do it & not me) & decided I liked how it felt. I like that I get less sweaty & when I do sweat, I'm not as stinky as when I had hairy pits.
- josh neff, geek at large
I recommended pit shaving or waxing to my husband for similar reasons, but he won't try it.
- Mellissa Claus
when i was doing a lot of drag comedy (a la Monty Python), I would shave my legs, trim the "front n' sides" and shave my armpits. The effect, I admit, felt sexy... but, man, it was a pain in the ass. Now, every once in a while, I'll make an "appearance", and I do as little shaving as I can get away with. Granted, I'm not the hairiest man to begin with. ;)
- T. Brent, technopeasant
Pics, Brent...feel free to DM if necessary.
- Derrick
If a person decides (s)he wants to do this, who are we to say if it is right or wrong? I find it arrogant to purport that you know better than another.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
from iPod
I agree, Curmudgeon. I wouldn't presume to keep another from doing it... just asserting my opinions and experiences. :)
- T. Brent, technopeasant
No, not necessary and if anyone ever insisted anything about my grooming habits I'd be like nuh-uh, but I also agree with Jenica. People have a wide range of reasons. And to each his or her own.
- joey
From the article: "Grooming down there is now considered to be normal, on a par with manicures, blow-drying, and eyebrow waxing," she says. "There is something hugely irritating about being forced to conform to an aesthetic ideal instigated and perpetuated by the porn industry, but, like keeping one’s armpits and legs smooth, it is now expected."
- Mellissa Claus
May I address the elephant in the rooom? It's universally accepted that sex with pre-pubescents is wrong. If an adult woman shaves her genital hair completely, that is not 'wrong'... and the two actions are not the same. But... for some, there is the connotation of the genitals resembling a pre-pusbescent girl's... and, for some, that is deeply unsettling.
- T. Brent, technopeasant
Now granted, that is just one opinion. But hell if I'm going to do something just because it is 'expected' or the 'norm'.
- Mellissa Claus
T Brent, if a guy wanted me to shave it all off, I would want to know why for that very reason. Is it because he wants me to look like a young girl? If so, I find that extremely icky.
- Mellissa Claus
Mark, no is saying no one can do it, we're just saying it's not necessary. I don't like facial hair. It grosses me out, but clearly, my husband has it and I deal.
- Captain Bubbles
And those who find it unsettling are welcome to make their own choices about their bodies... as is everyone else. Recognizing that there are myriad individualized reasons for personal grooming choices - not just the one you think is "icky" - would be nice, though. :)
- Jenica
So, if one were to be viewing artistic non-pornographic visual representations of nude women, would shorn or natural be preferable?
- Wirehead
Derrick!! LOL!!! 55 comments? I don't know if I can read all of them..
- Anna Lynn M.
I for one don't really care for the none at all look of a Brazillian...but you gotta trim the yard.
- Christian (Simply X)
And for part 2!!!! I call Shenanigans on a double standard...Many women will demand that their (male) partner shave off mustaches siting the reasons that it's itchy or scratches.
- Christian (Simply X)
Jenica - you took my use of the term "icky" completely out of context and I don't appreciate that.
- Mellissa Claus
Christian - shaving a moustache and having every bit of pubic and arse hair ripped out by the roots with hot wax is NOT the same thing!
- Mellissa Claus
Mellissa, I'm using it in exactly the same context: the implication that bare genitals relate to sexualization of children.
- Jenica
from iPhone
I agree with Melicious' last comment. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
keeping things tidy down there, for both sexes is important. if you're going to have some fun with your SO, keeping it neat and tidy I think is important. I personally don't care if it completely goes or not. up to the person.
- Terry O'Fee
from BuddyFeed
Is it too much to ask for a little common sense when it comes to issues like this? If the partner doesn't mind then no harm no foul but requiring it is a bit much. As far as male facial hair, I prefer Mark with a beard but can't expect him to have one all the time. He'll shave it and then let it grow back in and then shave it again. There are looks he prefers for me. I can't possibly do it all the time but I try to oblige when I can.
- Lindsey is Fierce!
well, I'[ve been trying to stay out of this one, but I've spent a fair amount of time researching the Guess Her Muff blog (on the front page very SFW, but links are NSFW), and have become pretty good at predicting how the hedges are trimmed. http://guesshermuff.blogspot.com/ Personally I say some trimming is necessary to help keep odor issues at a minimum, but I wouldn't ask my lady to do something I wouldn't, well, except for that one thing, but I digress.
- Rev. Dr. W!cKeD Rock
BTW, this question was brought up in the Playboy forum in the magazine this month. :)
- Rev. Dr. W!cKeD Rock
Never had a wax, but I actually feel comfortable shaving down there, these days. I had a nice little jungle down there until my partner insisted he wouldn't give me oral sex until I had it removed. Guess what? He still won't provide. :( I have to remind him that the bush was there for a reason. Completely remove it and you do get problems. He shaves down there too, btw, so he's been fair about the whole thing. During my dating days, the bush was never a problem, but we're talking 15, 16 years ago. It seems as if guys under 30 have unrealistic grooming expectations. Oh, and MJ and Anika, LOL!!!
- Helen Sventitsky
Just because it hasn't been said so far... some of us (even those of us depressingly beyond our twenties) like women to be waxed simply because we find the relevant orifice rather pretty to look at, and like an unobstructed view.
- Roger Benningfield
Perhaps a little pedantic, but, is it only waxing or would a nice, clean shave work equally as well?
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
To the original question: no. I may be in the minority (I haven't read all 75 comments), but I like a more natural look (and feel).
- Bren, Not Grinchy
In other words: I prefer a well-tended garden to a barren patch of polished concrete.
- Bren, Not Grinchy
Josh just made me LOL so much!!! HAHAHA!
- WorldofHiglet
Not necessary. But if people want to spend their money doing it, that's their business. I've got better things to spend $ on.
- Spidra Webster
MVB - Waxing vs Shaving depends on the person. Shaving tends to cause more ingrown hairs and razor bumps whereas waxing leaves things smoother for longer. Shaving can be more painful than waxing
- Lindsey is Fierce!
I think Lindsey needs a t-shirt that says "EPIC BUSH" with a downward-pointing arrow, though.
- Spidra Webster
I learn so much on teh webs... And Spidra, if you can find such a thing. I'll go halvsies on it.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
Jenica - I didn't imply anything of the sort. I said if a guy wanted me to be hairless because he wanted me to look like a young girl, I would find that disgusting/disturbing. I never said that hairless = pre-pubescent.
- Mellissa Claus
I thought for sure that Googling "epic bush" would come up with something interesting, but I was disappointed.
