I looked at at least two pages of every user who posted. I just started learning, so I bookmarked about 20 pages that I'll be coming back to. This was nice, thanks!

excellent tips for newbie bloggers, but also a great reminder for established bloggers. The key is simplicity so people can understand what your trying to get across.

Kai-Fu Lee, the president of the Google's Greater China operation and the subject of a bitter employee custody battle between Google and Microsoft, will leave the search giant later this month. Lee, who left Microsoft in 2005 to take over Google's operations in China, is resigning from the company to start his own venture and will be succeeded by a Google employee, the company confirmed Thursday evening. Lee's departure was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Congratulations and best wishes! (Someone needs to post a chart here on FF identifying all couples, 'cuz I'm clueless! I worry about unwittingly saying the wrong thing to someone's significant other!)

Postbox is a great email client, but it will be going paid soon. I think I'll go back to Windows Live Mail, because it was a great product and still is. But I'd like to get suggestions for other desktop mail clients I could try. And yes, I already know about Thunderbird. Please sound off on your favorite email clients.
Believe it or not I use MS Outlook - I connect to an exchange server so its the easiest but I use the Outlook Web Access client more than the desktop Outlook:)
- Rob Cairns
I personally use Thunderbird... and love it
- Hasitha
I heard that Inbox2 is all that. I'm still waiting for my invite. Postbox is cool. I have been a Eudora/Thunderbird guy for years. This week I started just emailing from the Gmail page...and I think I can get used to that.
- Bryan R. Adams
Hi Bryan, we have been sending out invites steadily for the last two weeks. So yours should also be running in soon :-) Cheers, waseem at inbox2 dot com
- Waseem Sadiq
Zee I am so happy for you - I know how much you adore her. :) Congratulations again and may you have a fantabulous life together, filled with joy, love, and laughter! Best, Mona
- Mona Nomura
This has been coming up in my feed all day and I have not begun to tire of it at all. Lovely! Congratulations again!
- Jim Iz Not on Ur List
Wow. Congrats Mucho! A long, healthy and happy life for the both of you! Remember how much you love each other right now, because down the road a few years, you might wonder where you are, how you got there, and who is sleeping next to you in bed. It's hard, hard work. But it's worth it!
- Morgan Haley
Congratulations. And enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Beautiful girl and beautiful ring.....congratulations!

Don't you guys think that this information, altough not essential, should have its place in the bio? Think of geolocalized friendfeed, for instance. Quite not possible yet.
- Zackatoustra
Shevonne, LOL! My translator (http://translatorize.com ) decided that your comment was a non-English language and interpreted your answer as.... Singing :D
- Micah Wittman
I was having a dream that I was podcasting with Josh and we were talking about breakfast burritos.
- CAJ, somewhere else
Shevonne, 'sonor' is a latin rooted word, so Romantic languages have words containing it; maybe the Google translation algorithm associated it as misspelled Italian or Spanish. "1611, from L. sonorus "resounding," from sonor (gen. sonoris) "sound, noise," from sonare "to sound" (see sound (n.1))." http://dictionary.reference.com/browse...

- Nicholas Chase
Hells yeah...gotta do something with all the swag.
- Neal Jansons
no stickers on mine. I like the clean look.
- John Wang
I used to have it "clean" as well. Then I switched jobs. So never having to give the laptop "back" to anyone meant I could do whatever I wanted.
- Louis Gray
you put cn next to seesmic? i thought we were friends
- Allen Stern
Cry me a river, Allen. Yours is the first to come off. :) (Besides the shape of the CN and the Lijit and Seesmic logos just flow)

I don't, but my job buys my computer. Technically, it's there's.
- Derrick
The correct answer is both . It's a computer, not a skateboard. Anyone who has to express their individuality by advertising their favorite online"hangs" is likely devoid of any more meaningful expression. Or, more simply, stickers suck.
- Ciaoenrico
I'd put my site logo onto a netbook, but I prefer the clean look of my laptop.
- Steve Farnworth
BTW - The TiVo guy is really for glass windows, so he had some assistance with double stick tape which is visible on his right leg.

same opinion regarding bumpers stickers on cars - not cool

- Neal Jansons
from IM
Sorry if that's harsh, but I see that in meetings and wonder, "am I supposed to take this person seriously?"
- Ciaoenrico
I never mess with the exterior of my computers, but my virtual desktops are typically quite the mess (or so folks tell me--they seem perfectly logically arranged to me).
- Kathy Fitch
I love stickers. But laser engraving beats it hands down: http://www.mobypicture.com/user... @marlooz was given a new MBP after hers was stolen at the 140char conference. The names of the people who donated are on it. Forever.
- Ruud van Wijngaarden
I do not own a personal laptop, and I'm not sure if my employer would look kindly on a FriendFeed sticker on my work laptop.
- John E. Bredehoft
Love the Building43 one! I have stickers all over my laptop.
- Robert Scoble
Neal Jansons LOL - Hello Kitty would rock! But Friendfeed and Twitter? Why not Dupont and Allied Waste while we're at it.
- Ciaoenrico
Ciaoenrico, my "meeting" Dell laptop is blank. But this "stickered" laptop is great for social media and blogger meetups.
- Louis Gray
I don't have any stickers because I do not want to disappoint those whose sticker I could not put on.
- ashish
Well, I don't have FF and Twitter...I have event stickers, a WP sticker because I am into Wordpress, Social Media Club, Digg, Laughingsquid, and Rev3 to support people I know/knew over there, and so on. Mostly I put them on to plug people, projects, and companies I like, same reason I wear band t-shirts and so on.

neal - you can have a cn sticker - i have a ton of them - just dm or email me your addy (anyone else too) - trust me louis is nothing special, everyone can have a cn sticker (lets not tell louis tho he likes to think he is special) HAHAHA
- Allen Stern
Absolutely not! No stickers on my laptop, no stickers on my car, no tattoo on my body. I accept brands only on my dresses
- Roberto.aka.tornosubito
from fftogo
Ciaoenrico, I have found that whether or not your coworkers are complete tools is typically independent of their laptop sticker choices.
- Louis Gray
i have stickers from bands and musical instrument makers on my lappie.
- Joe Silence
Louis Gray Fair enough. But I don't think it's the choice in stickers, it's the need to show off what you're into. Whether it's my cup of tea or not, it certainly is fanboyish, isn't it?
- Ciaoenrico
I tend to agree with Roberto, except that I do love temporary tattoos. If I could have laptop *clings* (stick, peel, move, and remove at will), then I might think about it.
- Kathy Fitch
Kathy: The one I have is removable without major issue - it's a gel skin rather than a traditional sticker. There was a range of them in Fry's Electronics, Phoenix, AZ. Not sure where to get them online, I'm afraid.
- 1x29
I created a hashtag to track it easier: #laptopstickermeme is what I tagged my pics with. I customize the hardware I own personally as you can tell. I'm taking the zen approach with my new netbook though. I have a few stickers on my company issue Dell laptop that are easy to remove.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
So far, I have not done it with any of my computers. My first car (used) and second car (new) were both solely transportation means of getting me to point A to point B, so I did put stickers on them. The car I have now, I enjoy the beauty and style of it as much as its function, so no stickers on it except for some inside window static cling Apple logos. Having said that, I don't have anything against people wanting to make their stuff unique or reflect their personality.
- Louis Trapani
$27 for 10 pack? Wow... I don't have 10 places to stick your bumper stickers. I'm still waiting for most of South Carolina to figure out what Twitter is...

My MacBook had stickers - mostly either hangouts I loved back in NC and my "W The Coach" sticker in UNC colors. I saw Rebecca MacKinnon at BlogNashville a few years back and the stickers she had on her iBook and vowed that I would get my own when I could afford a decent laptop. My MacBook lived from the week after the product line lauched until last December, God rest its soul.
- Dana Franks

These stickers just help me realize how much swag I'm missing out on. I have no stickers. Chi.mp is the only service that showed me any love. Wait, no. Myxer also sent me a bunch of stuff. :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Stickers on personal lappies rock! On a work laptop, not so much, other than perhaps a sticker of the place you work. But I've got an Apple sticker pacmanning my hp logo, a Bunny sticker (bunny-comic.com), a Bob the Fish sticker (Grand Cayman memories), and a Get Out of Hell Free sticker, just in case... the husband is rockin' an old-school Apple sticker over the Apple logo on his MB, very cool at night with the light shining through. He also pays homage to Bunny and CN (he appreciates you, Allen ;D).
- Bette Cooper
I need to pick up some stickers for mine I think, its bare right now. The seesmic one looks cool.
- deakaz
Yeah I think its time to suck up to Loic a bit :-P That seesmic logo is perfectly stickeriffic.
- Rasmus Lauridsen
My laptop only has a "Property of MATT1604" sticker on the bottom of it :)
- MλTT
bet that specific laptop has scratches under those stickers
- Braden Douglass
I have an Apple sticker on the HP desktop that I use at work.
- Big K
How do you sell the laptop on Ebay when you're done with it if it's covered in stickers?
- Jesse Stay
jesse you sign it and sell it as a collectors item - maybe it helps sell for more
- Allen Stern
Allen not with my signature - I'll get you to sign it when we see each other in the next few weeks. (still working out a date for that)
- Jesse Stay
not me either - mine would decrease the value :)
- Allen Stern
Allen, maybe a sticker with your autograph on it :-)
- Jesse Stay
Jesse! NO brown-nosing! (Louis - I'll take one w/ an autograph!) Jesse - I'll take yours too =)
- Arleen Boyd
I have three small stickers on my Macbook pro; firefox, Ubuntu and Ableton live. I have seem some artfully stickered laptops, but too many company stickers is just too cheesy
- Deepak Singh
I never add stickers on my computers, they make it ugly. Sorry.
- Zachary TG
Wow! That's your laptop? I thought it was a photo of a freezer door full of magnets.
- April Russo (app103)
I will repair something with a sticker if I can't find the duct tape.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
About a year ago, I created a special room here on FriendFeed called "Laptop Stickers" so we could share and exchange cool laptop stickers!! #fanboi#laptopstickers
- Susan Beebe
Stickers! http://www.flickr.com/photos... It may be geeky or whatever, but xxxxxxx doesn't sponsor my blogging so no advertising for them. Besides, if ppl think that it does not look "professional" I probably do not want to work with them. Just sayin'
- Stephen Smith
my laptop & netbook both sport Songbird stickers. I'd do friendfeed stickers for sure if someone offered.
- Trent Olson
Once upon a time, I put a Mandrake Linux sticker to cover a windows one on a laptop. Angry of having to buy windows with my PC before having the right to install Linux in it. My children still use this old and broken laptop, and the sticker is still there ;)
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
BTW, I'd be happy to put a 'FriendFeed' sticker on my Laptop! For when I have to talk about FF or to arouse questions about it.. "What's FriendFeed?". No FB nor Twitter stickers: everybody know them now.
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
2. That he doesn't accept or ignore invites. I know he's not the only one. About 80% of the people I invited to my secret group on Twitter didn't accept my invites.
- Robert Scoble
It's too bad that inviting people into things no longer works. We're getting bombarded with things around the edges of our content so we just ignore it all.
- Robert Scoble
I have dozens of invites that need to be accepted... thanks for the reminder
- LPH™ and his dog P™
I always accept or ignore invites. Dave's doing friendfeed wrong.
- Alex Scoble
I had to create a spot in my schedule for socialweb invite handling - not that "i'm all that!" but just that with so many sources it starts to get rather busy and I go and review and research each one carefully so it's a rather long process.
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
I use my FF as I should use it and accept or Ignore requests as soon as they come in. Golden Rule.
- CW™
Can't you only invite people who are subscribed to you? If so, the problem you are having is you are subscribed to the wrong people :)
- Tim Hoeck
Tim: Dave Winer is subscribed to me. It wouldn't help with people like him. My request gets buried.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, I do the same. Fortunately I follow your Tweets so I knew to check my invites for your secret group invites but I wouldn't have noticed them otherwise.
- Jesse Stay
Haha. As soon as I saw the Helvetica theme, I thought of Dave. I use it because it is content centric.
- Steven (optionshiftk)
I guess I'm weird for liking "Butterfly Corner."
- Darren Landrum
I look at all my invites, but some of them are to rooms that I don't want to subscribe to, yet I'm mildly amused that they exist, so I just let the invites ride as a reminder.
- Laura Norvig
Robert, my point was RE: "We're getting bombarded with things around the edges of our content so we just ignore it all".. if you are getting bombarded with invites, rethink your subscriptions.. and it was sort of a joke, because you are screwed :P
- Tim Hoeck
For 2), the problem is that people know how to report spam, but very know how to deal with bacn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki.... Still waiting for smart robots to take care of them :)
- Jérôme Flipo
Tim, I'm not sure about the "then rethink your subs". You too probably have friends who send emails with Comic San or pictures in the signature (etc.); but is it enough to block them?
- Jérôme Flipo
Robert: Just a side thought, but have you considered the potential impact of telling 99% of those who follow you on Twitter / FriendFeed that they are not invited into your various groups?
- Jim Connolly
Jim: yes. I'm interested to see what happens.
- Robert Scoble
I wonder if it's not so much ignoring it as not seeing it due to too many other inbound requests. For instance, with your secret group on Twitter, unless you sent along a separate note, some people might not have seen it due to having notifications turned off and auto-follow on.
- Justin Levy
Helvetica is like eating a taco without hot sauce.
- Todd Hoff
@Jim: +1 for savvy marketing idea and understanding of consumer psychology.
- AJ Kohn
There's just so much spam going on so people decided not to look at it at all. Similar to followers on Twitter, so many new followers every day but majority of them are spam users, and people see it as unproductive to go through each new follower and decide if they are real or not.
- Marko Saric
Robert: what Tim was saying is that if Dave Winer gets overwhelmed with the number of invitations, then he may be subscribed to too many people
- Mike Chelen
I am in Michigan, I can't afford to ignore invites! Could be the Next Big Thing, ya know?
- ZuDfunck
Come one then everyone, who is out of work and/or looking for a new job? Let's me merry together on FriendFeed. :-)

- Will Higgins™
Kol, I would honestly love to help you, but you're looking for a job in the UK and that's not exactly my neck of the woods. But, I'll keep my ears and eyes open for you. Who knows? Gaming right? What's the unemployment rate in England?
- Michael Fidler
Meeeee. My graduation day is in 2 weeks.
- Charlotte M
Oh, that would be me too - get really hungry some days.
- Chris Loft
Amani, I'm about 1-2 hours away from London. I want to move to SW of London at some point though. Kent is too far away from town. ;-)

Mike, I'm a data-monkey, so Excel/reporting/Business Objects/databasing, etc. I've done some tech support, website maintenance and testing in the past and don't mind a bit of admin. I've been a project co-ordinator on several telecoms projects too. That's about my level.
- Kol Tregaskes
Network admin, video editor, writer and presenter here still in the search for a job (or payment for my podcast)... That and I'm going slightly insane waiting to find out if I have the rocketboom gig or not >.<

Breaking news : 74% of the people engaging in FFFriendship relations are unemployed. They all gather around a graphical totem stating "I NEED A JOB". No official from the US, UK, France or any other country made any comment about this phenomenom.
- Zackatoustra
been doing freelance work, but would really enjoy a little more stability ;)
- Mike Chelen
alphaxion: tried generating revenue through advertising?
- Mike Chelen
No point when I'm only getting an average of about 20 to 50 views per episode. Thanks for the likes BTW :)
- alphaxion
part of the advantage is to become familiar with the tools & methods. and if every one of those viewers clicked an ad (yeah right) that could be $10 an ep :)
- Mike Chelen
I'm more interested in sponsors than rolling ads, since I don't like how intrusive they are. I can control how I advertise sponsors, at the least. The ideal solution is a distribution deal so I don't have to assail people with advertising in the show (just around it on their site). Tho getting more viewers is my primary concern above earning money from it.
- alphaxion
alphaxion: finding that balance is one of the most important aspects & challenges, maybe web page ads would be a good compromise? to get more viewers, how about making a friendfeed group for the show :)
- Mike Chelen
I do have a room where the feed from the site is pulled into, along with many other feeds http://friendfeed.com/electro... I have one with the name of the show, but I plan to use it for whenever I increase my writing team (stories etc would get posted into there for commentary). The site they're on (www.verticalslice.tv) gets even less traffic. Besides, I'm loath to use ads like those. I'm great at stifling myself ;)
- alphaxion
Last night a guy came to my door asking to wash my car for cash. While he worked I found out that he was a mid level manager at a large company last year. Now he can't even get a cashier job at Target, so he's going door to door washing folks' cars. After I paid him, I went in and put on some Woody Guthrie.

While on the doll I'm supposed to apply for 2 jobs per week min. I've just written up my last 2 weeks worth of job hunting and have applied to over 20 jobs! They just look at my slip every fortnight and say 'well you've been busy'! LOL. 3 month review in a couple of weeks, I think I've hit their min. requirement and then some. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Actually, though I find it a chore to write up every time, it's quite useful. I'm now over 1 job application a day! I really like the look of this job though: http://ff.im/4KNSG

Ha! Whose head is that in your image? :)
- Louis Gray
I do have a shirt though, which makes it all better
- Jesse Stay
*sniff* I was on one of the lists before LG took over the reins so I can't use the badge. Then again, I don't maintain my blog/s either, so it's no real loss I suppose... =D
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Louis - you can thank Bing image search for that one :)

I Love it! Bawana you get so many bonus points you are off the map - drinks and dinner on me if you are ever in Seattle. :-)
- Dan Morrill AKA Techwag
hahaha i LOVE the badge - you should distribute it to past nominees so they can add it to their sites
- Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Not that you needed to since you're already "famous" here - look at all those subscribers! How about official versions of the "Official Louis Gray FriendFeed Recommendation" or "Louis Gray approved" or "LG certified" badge? I'd proudly display one of those and link it to Louis' blog. (But what about Mike? He deserves some credit too!)
- Internet Strategist
My grandparents and uncles/aunties still live up there so I go visit them a few times a year. Last time I was there was the beginning of June!

cool, well its awesome to connect with someone who is from the same place. Never thought that would happen on here, as its a pretty niche service compared to Twitter, Facebook e.t.c
- deakaz
You have my full sympathy, and compliments for a very brave post.

Like Leo said, wishing you both the best as you transition into this new phase -- both personally and professionally. Your contributions to the community are amazing and I hope you continue to push forward enriching the lives of geeks and non geeks alike across teh tubes and internets.

Nothing more to add to Leo's comment. All the best to both of you!

- David Ford
Sad to hear this; hope everything works out for you both.

Chris, there's no formula for how to handle the public side of this, but your post seemed sufficient and decent. All the best (to everyone involved) during this difficult time.
- Micah Wittman
Whoa, so sorry ot hear that Chris. Damn.

- Akiva Moskovitz
Wow. Not much to add other than sorry to hear because I know it has to have been a rough time making that decision and then going through with it. Good luck to both of you. I hope things look up from here.
- Lindsay is in 20-ten
Sorry to hear about that, good luck, I am sure it is very difficult to go through.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Take things one day, one step, even one BREATH at a time. You will make it, Chris!
- Now Voyager
I went through this last year - it's not easy, and it's an emotional roller coaster, but you have to believe that happiness and peace lies on the other side. Best of luck.
- Iain Baker
I don't have any groups set up at all. I probably miss some, but think I would miss more if I had lists.
- Alan Simpson
I have lists & groups set up, but spend most of my time on my home feed. I have most of my groups feeding into my home feed. The idea of *only* looking through lists or groups seems positively ridiculous to me. I can see if you're following thousands of people, but honestly most of the people I'm subbed to don't even participate here.
- Admiral Anika
Thanks for the feedback guys! And Kol do you just like everything :)
- deakaz
Alan, you won't miss more with lists. Just because you have users/groups in other lists doesn't mean you can't have them in your home feed as well. With lists though, you're more likely to spot something interesting you missed when you check them.
- Tanath
I was a Palm user back in the black and white days of the Handspring Visor. I've also used the Palm VII (briefly), and the Treo 600. Oh yeah, and the Tungsten E, and also a Dell Axim (obviously not Palm but MS mobile). I liked Palm OS for a long time, but the Treo made me switch to a to a Blackberry 7800 (loved it). I now use a Tmobile G1. It would take some time for me to warm back up to Palm. Interested in how the Pre works out.

in other words for me...I would LOVE to see this with a lot of TWiTs...where it is set to be located now makes it impossible for me if I have to pay for it

I guess this will be the start of the twitter clones leaving the Interwebs.

I think some of the foreign-language ones will survive, as will identi.ca, because open-source people seem like a stubborn lot. Other than that, nothing much will be left.
