Suggerite e troverete | Since I have to write a new edition of one of my Linux books, what new topics you'd like to find in it? Spend your 2 cents and you will find them in.

[installato con "apt-get -t experimental-snapshots dist-upgrade -f --no-install-recommends"]
- Randolph Carter
Aptitude is your friend ;-)
- zidagar ▶ ▷
- Picchio
Nonostante i progressi fatti negli ultimi anni io ancora provo fastidio quando vedo KDE.

"Compiz Fusion on Gnome Desktop running on Debian 6 "Squeeze". I ended up rebuilding my system and decided this time to use Gnome instead of XFCE because of the inability to use XFWM window decorations. Hopefully in future versions of Compiz they will fix this and Compiz and XFCE will work nicely together. I prefer XFCE overall, but my love of eye-candy keeps me with Gnome."

"The aptosid developers have released version 2011-02 of their successor to Sidux. Code named "Ἡμέρα" (the Greek form of Hemera), the distribution uses the current 2.6.39 kernel and KDE 4.6 or XFCE 4.8; it also sees the obsoletion of HAL, replaced by udev, and the addition of initial support for GPT and UEFI booting (allowing for hard drives greater than 2 TB)."

"In terms of what runs under the hood, the M300 takes a different direction from Dell KACE's larger K1000 appliance. The K1000 uses an open source FreeBSD operating system as its base. In contrast, the new M300 uses a Debian Linux operating system."

"In my previous post, “Secure IPsec/L2TP VPN for on the road android devices” I have written on how to set up an IPsec/L2TP VPN server and connect to it from any android device. I was really impressed how simple it was to configure a secure VPN tunnel with IPSEC, so I decided to go a bit further and try to use the same tunnel with Ubuntu Desktop. Unfortunately the IPsec/L2TP client side isn’t well supported under Linux, this is maybe beacuse everyone is using OpenVpn. At the end I stumbled into Werner Jaeger launchpad page, where I found a GUI to manage IPsec/L2TP connection from Ubuntu Desktop, the connection set up is very straightforward and without glitches. Along with a simple PSK configuration, the GUI allow to use certificate for authentication and more advanced L2TP options as redial- timeout and attempts and of course all important PPP options."

Curiously, the update includes brand new P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft that can fly around the map attacking targets on the ground and in the air. The developers say that the WW2 fighter planes were added "just for fun" and "to show that the game engine can support flight"."

"I've used Linux Mint GNOME edition off and on for a few years now. I have mostly used it in testing, as I'm really not the target audience for this distribution. Yet I continue to be impressed with how simple and user-friendly this desktop is. In addition, there are other factors that I think give Linux Mint a huge edge over Ubuntu for the casual user."

"Debian GNU/Linux is a Free software replacement for operating systems like Windows and MacOS and their applications. You don't have to be a Debian newbie, or newcomer, to get help from this site, but the documentation here aims to provide help at a level that Debian newbies will find useful. The documents usually address topics that Debian newbies often need help with. Everyone who uses Debian GNU/Linux was a newbie once, even if they were not a beginner. Being a Debian user also means being part of the Debian and GNU/linux communities. If the community gives you help, giving help to others is a way of giving something back to the community. One way of helping others is to document your experience of successfully solving a problem. Debian NewbieDOC helps to make this easy because the website is is a wiki. Anyone can edit pages and create new ones."
