"I think that your first burlesque performance has pretty much put you in a very powerful position of moulding your ideal burlesque persona. If you can keep up that integrity, people will start to understand that burlesque isn't limited to rockabilly styling or kitschy housewives being coy. I have been through a gamut of "personas" in my own personal styling and identity, and while I don't perform on a stage, I do perform in real life. Right now I act out super femme with a dash of vulgar and a heap of lard - it's powerful to challenge the "norms" of femininity and I have a lot of fun with it. Just keep doing what you want to do, how you want to do it. Listen and observe, tempering your styling like a cook seasons their dish. We might be playing a minority game, but being true to ourselves is definitely enriching."
