Didn't realize that this would work, even if you have Disqus. Will have to try it out. - Ontario Emperor via fftogo
Yeah - the RSS and JSON has a history limitation, which is why I'm trying to work on a server side solution. It's a bit of a pain, because it means stuff has to get imported to a database. I'd much rather be able to make queries to FF's db thru the api (by the muid?), because I really don't want to maintain another database that mirrors theirs. Seems sorta silly. Not to mention I'm not as good at creating good DBs as them. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins

I'll keep beating the drum: People like me, the "average user" and not an A-list or B-list blogger aren't big fans of FriendFeed for two reasons: 1) Building a subscriber base to interact with is too much work, and why bother since 25%-50% of the feed updates on here are Twitter related anyhow. 2) Tracking the conversation on here is not as user friendly as it could be. If someone replied to this comment I'm typing right now, I wouldn't know it unless I made it a point to scroll though the list of my... - Michael Beck
Michael: I agree. I think we need a LOT more choices about how to display items and filter them. I have a whole lot of feature requests. That said, if you are seeing 25% items about Twitter you need to stick around a few more hours. I'm only seeing 1% items about Twitter on a typical day. - Robert Scoble
Michael - Both the reasons you listed are actually harder to do on Twitter than FriendFeed. Also, simply because the majority of content that comes through FriendFeed is Twitter posts, doesn't mean that's where the value is. I hide a majority of Twitter posts unless they have comments or likes. FriendFeed requires effort to learn just as Twitter did. Finding the signal is totally up to your participation..and with that, FriendFeed is not for everyone. - Bwana McCall
Shey, I'm still not 100% sold on it, but since giving it a shot again this week I'm warming to it. It's certainly evolved a fair bit - Duncan Riley
...comments and look specifically for content directed at me. I don't have time for that. On Twitter it's just a matter of clicking the "replies" tab and I can see every instance of @hoopadoo. Twitter is successful in its simplicity. FriendFeed is a feed aggregator first and foremost. The fact that some conversation has blossomed on here, great. But as long as Twitter is around (and online) most Twitter users will stick to where they're at. - Michael Beck
I really hate the layout in FF, it takes too much time to faff about on it. I find it easier to follow and contribute to convo on Alert Thingy - Sally Church via Alert Thingy
I enjoy each for its intended purpose, Twitter indeed for its simplicity, and FriendFeed's extension of that simplicity to create a more informative and enjoyable experience. - JodyC via twhirl
Dammit. I hate how twirl mangles replies sometimes. My point was that FF is inherently parasitic. I would never use it the way I use twitter - far, far to much clutter. It is a nice add on to a info stream though. - Soulhuntre via twhirl
But if they are afraid of leaving their comfort zone, they probably wouldn't be first adopters in the first place! No? - Adrian Scicluna
I agree that the FF commenting system could use some work, threaded replies, and an update to let you know when replies happen, would be great - Shey

Stop following me? Are you saying nobody "likes" me or my items, or just that you're too sloooooowwwww.... - Louis Gray
OK, it's merely "a feature that would continue my excitement of FriendFeed and let me hide all the noise." I'd love a view of all FriendFeed items that have gotten a comment in the past hour too. - Robert Scoble
Heck, and while we're at it, I'd like to be able to set the hour. So, I'd like to see all items that have received a like in past six hours. Past 12. Past 24. Past week. - Robert Scoble

What don't you like about the iPhone version of Reader? - Adewale Oshineye
I think so. - Juvenn Woo

I personally think certain sites, such as Reader and Facebook have a much easier interface to navigate on the iPhone/iPod touch - David Adewumi
The "mobile" version generally puts way too little info on each page and makes you click around too much. This is really dumb considering how high latency mobile is -- I want MORE info on each page. The best "mobile" sites are the ones where I can click on a page and spend several minutes reading it. Reddit works well, for example (because it's just their regular site). - Paul Buchheit
Worst of all are the news sites which redirect me to their "mobile portal" when I clicked through on a specific story. - Paul Buchheit
why - qian
To me, the gReader mobile is superior on my iPhone because it will continually format it for mobile reading. While full pages are nice, it's not much fun on an Edge network. I like being able to click to "Read more..." and know that I'm not going to have to wait 10 minutes for a page to load. That said, a perfect RSS feed is where I can read the whole story in my reader and not have to go to another page. CNN has the worst RSS feed as far as I'm concerned. - Vince DeGeorge
opera mini works well for formatting sites on small devices - Kyle Weller
It turns out that I can get to the real reader by going to http://www.google.com/reader/v.... Unfortunately it doesn't work quite right due to that magic scroll bar. It needs a couple of scroll buttons maybe. I like seeing a lot of content on one page though. Scrolling is not a problem, but waiting for a server round-trip is. - Paul Buchheit
I don't mind using http://www.google.com/reader/m.... All it needs is a hotkey for sharing and I'd be happy. - Benjamin Golub
Though I prefer the to use mobile version of gReader on my iPhone I agree with Paul's criticisms. The interface is click happy and woefully underpowered. I've been playing with running everything through a proxy that also modifies the markup and script en route to add the capabilities I want. - Kevin D. White
I love mobile reader... although, it is annoying that it still can't share with note. Also, I wish it would let you know how many unread there are just like the regular version. - felix
Yes; not knowing how many are unread is an issue. I like to clean my inbox; if I don't know how many are unread then I don't know if I have enough time right now to finish. It's the hint of OCD in me. - Benjamin Golub
BTW, we just launched a more AJAX-y Reader iPhone site (in beta) at http://www.google.com/reader/i that brings it closer to the desktop UI. - Mihai Parparita
Cool, I'll have to check it out! iPhone-specific UIs seem to be an exception to the "mobile sites are awful" rule :) - Paul Buchheit
if your touch is jailbroken, you can download "Feed" from the installer.app. It uses the gReader API, and is amazing. I think it was released yesterday, and it's already my favorite 3rd party app. - shaun mclane

Their move and lack of innovation for Photographers (both pro and serious amateur) has turned me off. Yahoo wants flickr to become Youtube, which it is not. - Jon Erickson via twhirl

And my sets of 100% photos tell me that in each of them I've got x number of "things". Why can't flicker be smart enough to call my photos photos if I'm only using it that way instead of sticking me with cold impersonal generic terms. A big turn off. - Thomas Hawk
Those should all be preferences you can set. - TranceMist
TranceMist, you hit the nail on the head. That's *exactly* what they should do. Simply let the user go back to the old language with a preference setting. That's so simple and I never even thought of that. - Thomas Hawk
