Reminds me a lot of the Nisqually delta, before they removed the dikes to allow natural flooding.

These used to be cranberry bogs, with artificial dikes and gates to control the amount of water around the cranberry bushes. Now it's being restored to a more natural landscape, though the dikes and gates will remain for water control. I think some areas will be flooded, while others won't be.

Oh, that's pretty similar then (though here it was to control general flooding in the valley, and create some dry farmland).

Here it was to allow the cranberries to mature in dry conditions in the summer and then flood the impoundments for the cranberry harvest in the fall.
