4 i think? maybe 2? 3 and 5 are more early 80s. 1 is late 90s interpretation of 60s. (you can tell i spend a lot of time researching frames.)

Now can we write captions for each of the pics? Because, really, your expressions are awesome. For example, for #1: "Are really letting that newt crawl up your nose?"

I am envious of your long hair. It's totally gorgeous. Does that information help you choose glasses? :D
- Marie
Aw, thank you! I worry I'm too old for it. I also worry that my glasses won't match my hair if I (eventually) decide to color it. Woe, WOE, wooooooe is me.
- Meg V. Meg
Thank you guys so much, this is helpful! I'm trying to decide if #1 is too similar to my existing blue plastic frames (your affinity for #1 makes me feel much better about my current glasses), and I might look at #4 in a different color, though I'm not in love with the other colors available.

shortformblog: Jan Brewer, liberal hero? "Four peregrine falcon chicks roosting high above the Hudson River on the George Washington Bridge were pronounced healthy Tuesday and fitted with tracking bands to help biologists keep tabs on them. Their mother's squawks competed with the din of morning-rush bridge traffic as Chris Nadareski, a wildlife biologist with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, gently lifted the fluffy chicks out of their nesting box and used pliers to fasten metal bands around their legs. Nadareski peered into the birds' ears, then spread their wings to check for lice."

"On Tuesday, several Port Authority workers joined Nadareski on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge near the New York side, 189 feet above the Hudson. The wooden nesting box was attached to a girder about six feet below the road bed. Nadareski and two Port Authority bridge workers wore harnesses tethered to the bridge as they descended a ladder to the birds' level. The...

In my haste to move on from the tragicomic romantic fiascos of the past couple weeks, I have 3 possible dates for this weekend... which now me thinks is a bit much. Tonight is the do-over from last weekend, but I might postpone the others. I'm just not feeling energetic enough to be charming three days in a row.

I've only really made it with my mom, and I'll admit to being terrible about remembering measurements.

Never used a recipe. I just boil some cubed potatoes and drain them, chop up some onion and some bell pepper and toss 'em in until the proportion looks right, add in salt, pepper and celery seed.Paprika if you like it.Shake it up in a covered bowl until mixed and stir in mayo or Miracle Whip until it's as wet as you like it.

I wish I could duplicate my Mom's German Potato Salad, which involves frying some diced bacon and then adding vinegar and sugar to the bacon grease and pouring that over the potatoes.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
I used to make it, and can;t recall much other than that the first steps ended with the cooked, cubed potatoes getting tossed with cider vinegar and chilled for a while. And that it used Nayonaise specifically. Beyond that, it had dill. But, what other spices? celery? pickles? I feel like there might have been eggs in the mix too?
- RudĩϐЯaЯïan
m9m, that sounds tasty, and really different!

The sweet&sour kind with bacon is also the way to make "real" coleslaw. Very finely shredded green cabbage drained quite dry and then tossed with bacon bits, bacon grease, vinegar and sugar. Usually sold as "Pennsylvania Dutch" type.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
I guess as close to recipe that we'd get would be 'American Style' - cubed cooked potatoes tossed with celery pieces, cut up pickles, hard-boiled eggs, and then tossed with a mix of salt, pepper, paprika and mayo and mustard. 'German Style' - sliced cooked potatoes, tossed with the crispy broken bits of a few pieces of bacon, a bit of bacon grease, salt, pepper, vinegar and sugar to taste (I've had a vegan version of that with fake bacon, and it was pretty good.)

"It's always fun to hear about the rumors that were going around back in the day. Like, now, I'm sure people hear all sorts of rumors about their friend who knows a guy who ran from the cops over the state line or something. But historically? Well, different times, different rumors. And apparently the one going around in 1865 was that everyone knew this guy who knew a guy who...swallowed a slug and had it come out alive."

With all of the true gross random things that can already happen, it seems so odd that we go out of our way to invent more. Also, it seems like the whole 'feed them to animals then dissect' step was wholly unnecessary for research, since he could've just started with a jar of stomach acid :/

"Twice a day, seven days a week, a tractor trailer carrying 8,000 gallons of watery, cloudy slop rolls past the bucolic countryside, finally arriving at Neil Rejman’s dairy farm in upstate New York. The trucks are coming from the Chobani plant two hours east of Rejman’s Sunnyside Farms, and they’re hauling a distinctive byproduct of the Greek yogurt making process—acid whey. For every three or four ounces of milk, Chobani and other companies can produce only one ounce of creamy Greek yogurt. The rest becomes acid whey. It’s a thin, runny waste product that can’t simply be dumped. Not only would that be illegal, but whey decomposition is toxic to the natural environment, robbing oxygen from streams and rivers. That could turn a waterway into what one expert calls a “dead sea,” destroying aquatic life over potentially large areas. Spills of cheese whey, a cousin of Greek yogurt whey, have killed tens of thousands of fish around the country in recent years. The scale of the problem—or...

"The root of the whey problem is the very process that gives Greek yogurt its high protein content and lush mouthfeel. Unlike traditional yogurt, Greek yogurt is strained after cultures have been added to milk. In home kitchens, this can be done with a cloth. Greek yogurt companies still throw around the term “strained,” but in reality industrial operations typically remove the whey...

I'm gonna post this to hopefully stop being upset: my roommate is getting married at the courthouse today and I can't go b/c they "don't really want anyone there." Except his friend that's officiating, and his friend that's taking photos, and his daughter. But not me. I'm just altering the blouse she wants to wear for it by 2pm. I'm near tears.
I totally respect whatever they want to do, really. It just makes me sad that she didn't think "I want T to be there." But oh well.
- t-ra: not givin up
That seriously sucks. Sounds like she's a little spoiled. Except that I notice all the people are his people, not hers. His friend officiating, his friend shooting, his daughter. Where is she in that relationship?
- Mary B: #TeamMonique
*hug* I say this in the hope it will make you less sad: Some folks just want it to be as private as possible, and I am certain it is not intended as a slight. Jed and I asked a stranger to officiate and a stranger to take pictures, simply because those were things that needed doing, but it was *our* moment (Im sure we would have brought kids if we'd had any) and we wanted it to be a moment just for us, with a more inclusive celebration later to include our loved ones.

thanks, warmaiden. I do totally get that it's their thing and they should do it how they choose. I know my emotional shit is mine and not hers... just a selfish reaction of feeling left out when it's not about me, nor should it be. I'll have a good cry, then get my head back on straight. I know it means a lot to her that I'm doing this blouse and that's cool. They're leaving town tonight and I'm taking care of the animals while they're gone, so I'll go over there tonight and hopefully get a photo with her.
- t-ra: not givin up
It is totally understandable to be sad, and it's a shame they didnt just keep it to themselves so you wouldn't be hurt, that seems thoughtless of her to ask you to work on something for it and not invite you. Happy for your moment of grace, but sending you lifted-up thoughts and hugs.
- ωαřмaiden ❤Marrit Woman❤
Wow. that's bad. I'm sorry, boo. You are awesome though, and their loss for not having you and your wonderful spirit there.
- Monique the crochet freak
That's hard. We didn't want anyone there, except for Wade, so we only told one friend, because we used her back porch and needed her witness signature. She was not one of my best friends, just someone I could trust to keep it quiet. It must be hard to keep something like that from your roommate, so I see both sides. I bet she loves you, T.
- Laura Norvig
Thanks everyone. I just needed a safe place to be butthurt about it, and I appreciate y'all lettin me do that, as usual. Everything is solid between her and I and will continue to be. I went over to get the keys for animal sitting this weekend. Got a hug and a picture with her, so that's our moment and that works for me. They're off to the Grand Canyon for honeymoon weekend now.
