Considering Lasik Surgery - Thoughts or Comments?
I was blessed with the ability to wear my contacts for 2+ months straight.. Yes you read that right. Only issue is after 10+ years my eyes are actually deformed because they are waterlogged.. Back to glasses for awhile to let them air out and reform. I remember why I hate glasses.. - Derek Collison
A guy I work with got it. He said it was a huge process just to get a doctor to agree to do it. Apparently the good doctors are very picky about which patients they will perform on because it's still a very new procedure so they only pick the best cases. He got it done and now has better than 20/20 vision. Personally, I'd never do it because it creeps me out. It took me years to finally get contacts because I didn't like the idea of poking my eye daily. - Benjamin Golub
In meeting the other day, was asked "Its called Focus, not sure you heard of it?"... My contacts' brand *is* Focus. That is how I named the project originally.. So yes I had heard of it.. :) - Derek Collison
I have 20/15 vision thanks to laser surgery, which was an unexpected resolution upgrade. LASIK is not a new procedure and there are many clinics which do it. The pros and cons and risks of laser eye surgery options are kind of beyond a friendfeed comment thread to cover. As the FDA says: "Before undergoing a refractive procedure, you should carefully weigh the risks and benefits based on your own personal value system, and try to avoid being influenced by friends that have had the procedure or doctors encouraging you to do so." (http://www.fda.gov/cdrh...) - ⓞnor
I believe I will use Dr. Manche of Palo Alto.. Any comments on him? - Derek Collison
That's where I went. You won't see much of the good doctor, but he will examine your eyes carefully, and you'll get scanned in a bunch of ways. There's no reason not to go in for a consult, at least -- you might be ineligible, or eligible only for PRK, or something like that. - ⓞnor
Headed in next Friday. Hopefully my eyes will "dry" out enough by then.. :) - Derek Collison
this nytimes article solidified my resolution to not get lasik: http://www.nytimes.com/2008... ... then again, glasses don't bug me that much. it's always a tradeoff, eh? - ௸ (k2g)
Wow, I had no idea that the project that I worked on got its name from Derek's contact lenses. - Gary Burd
Now ya know.. :) - Derek Collison
Can't see as well at night -- lights' starburst effect -- worse on days w/ lots of eye strain (re: coding). Otherwise, great. - Jeremy Raines
DO IT. It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself; research is all here: http://del.icio.us/case/lasik. I went to Scott Hyver, who does the 49ers: http://www.scotthyver.com/ - Eric Case
I had Lasik....was great. Got it done in India, could literally see my eye sight getting corrected - the laser burning the outer layer of the eye, the blur slowly disappearing. That was also the first time I had my eyes open, but everything was dark. Thanx to the surgery, i dont need glasses anymore. - Parashuram
My wife needs eyedrops sometimes now, but is very happy with not needings glasses anymore. - Howard Trickey
Highly recommended, did this about 7 years ago. Now I can visit Death Valley in the Summer without my contacts drying up! - Mike Reynolds
I did it, worked like a charm.. :) - Derek Collison
I highly recommend Dr. Manche at Stanford.. FYI.. - Derek Collison
I recommend not needing corrective lenses in the first place ;-) - Jim Norris
It used to be that most doctors that performed this surgery wore glasses. I wonder if it's still true. - j1m
It's sort of like the better barber being the one with the worse haircut... - Jim Norris
