Amazing video. Some of those bullets are really cruel. - Willem (@wim66) ☠
Those are really amazing. But could his "watermark" logo have been any larger and more obnoxious? I was almost in danger of being able to see the video :) - Joel Webber
The impacts looks a lot like water splashing - Benjamin Golub
It's a shame such awesome video has such lame music. - Gabe
I actually like the music. - April Buchheit
@mirat: I'm just guessing, but I think they still use chemical films. CMIIW. - Pandu ● IT Optimizer from fftogo
It's really impressive how quickly the fractures travel through glass (eg: 2:59 and 4:38). Significantly faster than a "speeding bullet". - Laurence Gonsalves
I agree with April. The music is good. - Louis Gray
I also agree with April and Louis. The music is "Temple" from Hook The Captain. - imabonehead

Wow, that is awesome. The authors list cracked me up: "Tao Chen, Ming-Ming Cheng, Ping Tan, Ariel Shamir, and Shi-Min Hu". One of these things is not like the others. - Jim Norris
What is the definition of naff here? Here in the UK it effectively means stupid/silly/rubbish. - Travis Koger

A New Web Tool to Take Control of Your Health
A New Web Tool to Take Control of Your Health
"That is why on Tuesday, a start-up company led by Adam Bosworth, former head of the Google Health team, plans to become the newest entrant to the online consumer health business. ... The ideal, health experts say, would be to combine personal data with health information to deliver tailored health plans for individuals. That is what Mr. Bosworth and his San Francisco-based company, Keas (pronounced KEE-ahs) Inc., mean to do. Using the Keas system, for example, a person with Type 2 diabetes might receive reminders, advice on diet and exercise, questions and prompts presented on the Web site or delivered by e-mail or text messages — all personalized for the person’s age, gender, weight and other health conditions. Although success is far from certain, Keas has some big partners, including Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault. " - Paul Buchheit from Bookmarklet
I sincerely hope these guys don't get gobbled up by the big insurance cos. Having worked for a recently acquired division of a big insurance co (<cough>UnitedHealth</cough>) all innovation goes out the door once the company gets bought. - Jesse Stay

wow, my prediction was right (you totally need to put it in toolbar also): http://www.satine.org/archive... - Charles Ying
that is cool and cruel - Thierry Lhôte
Hahaha :) Very cruel indeed. Curious to see if this is adopted, corporate users who have IE may still be unable to even install a plugin... but at the very least this still lowers the barrier to HTML5 enabled pages. - James Kuypers
It is not even fork, it is inside piracy... this is provocation ;-) - Thierry Lhôte
Do the people who don't have permissions to install a non-IE browser have permissions to install plugins? - Sean O'Connor
Sean, think of enterprises who have IE6-only legacy internal apps. CF lets them build _new_ internal apps to HTML5, so that someday they can leave IE6. Otherwise they need to dual-target _all_ their apps to IE6 and modern browsers before they can switch. Painful. Also, many enterprises who feel it's too disruptive to move from IE6 may be okay with installing CF, because it's default-off. Let's say half of all enterprises do. Now the need to support IE6 goes down even more. - Daniel Dulitz
Fantastic hack but won't take off. Fix the core issue and get people to upgrade or switch, enough with the band-aids. - Dave Evans
Very cool stuff - Charlie Anzman
Now what about a firefox plugin? Is this open source chromium or chrome... - James Michael Mike DuPont
Dave, the core issue is that enterprises with IE6-only legacy internal apps don't have the resources to run a modern browser. CF fixes the core issue. - Daniel Dulitz
Dave hit my issue dead-on. Installing a plugin is a cheat when the real issue is educating people on why more modern browsers are better. - Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕ from iPhone
Cool! - Kol Tregaskes
"education" is typically the worst solution to a technical problem. - Paul Buchheit
yes, education is a slow solution, because most people tend to resist change. better show them there is a better way without forcing them to change anything :) - George Moga
I'd actually love to see the opposite: IE8 running inside Chrome, just like the IE Tab plugin for Firefox. I use Chrome for almost everything, but Outlook webmail looks and works so much better in IE8, and I doubt that Microsoft will be working very hard to fix that. - Tudor Bosman
Tudor, yeah being able to choose the browser type for a tab would be really cool for testing websites. - Cristo

Why is git so annoying for the simplest things? I just want to check in and check out. If git were a hotel, it'd be the Hotel California
Git isn't a tool, it's a way of life. - Jim Norris
Kernel hackers had to spice up their day somehow ;) - Micah Wittman
If all you want to do is check in/out, why not use something else? Or do they all suck more? ... And how come no enterprising clever developer has come up with usability fixes (or a better client) for git? - Andrew C
I'm reading 'git' as something completely different. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
Paul Buchheit
Switching browsers is a big deal for many people (change is bad), but installing the latest Flash plugin so that you can play games, watch videos, etc is normal. This is why the "Chrome Frame" plugin is a great idea. Now they need to add some "must have" features to HTML5.
Absolutely... I hope they'll offer it in .cab form as well so it'll be a simple click-to-deploy solution. - Matt Mastracci
A brilliant strategy... MSFT left with just the frame. - τorƍue
Next up: Chrome OS inside of Windows. - τorƍue
one of my predictions was right! (it should also totally go into Google Toolbar) http://www.satine.org/archive... - Charles Ying
This is fantastic news for developers and really opens up the potential to innovate. - Daniel Shaw
Chrome 3 still has drawbacks..no roboform support and xmarks support. Also, flash does not work on a number of sits. Firefox kept freezing(ver 3.0013 to 3.53) so I tried Flock and it uses all my old extensions and is fast. - earl wallace from twhirl
Chrome frame will just tick people off: "you need a plugin to view this site" ... and then you just show them what is basically just a plain old website? - Joel Bennett
I like digg's strategy of displaying a warning of possible funkyness to users visiting the site with IE6. Wouldn't [click here to remove funkyness] do the trick for most people? - Bill Strathearn
It looks like Wave refused to be slowed down by older browsers and requires the use of Chrome-frame for any interaction with the app: http://googlewavedev.blogspot.com/2009... - Bill Strathearn
"and then you just show them what is basically just a plain old website" No, using it for plain old websites would be annoying, but there are uses -- like Canvas animations -- to which there is no good plugin-less alternative. So then it becomes the choice between different plugins. (Of course Flash is more widely distributed at the moment, but some developers may prefer Canvas + JavaScript.) - Philipp Lenssen
Are there any good uses for Canvas animations? Or any really good uses for Canvas at all? I'm at a loss for situations where SVG wouldn't be better. - Gabe
my flash will not update! - Lizajane

How to build cheap cloud storage (67 terabyte 4U servers for $7,867) - Backblaze Blog
Amazing level of transparency and detail about their custom storage servers. HN discussion at http://news.ycombinator.com/item... (discusses why this is appropriate for backup, but perhaps not generic storage needs) - Bret Taylor from Bookmarklet
Put me down for two. - Jason Shellen
45 drives per unit and many units means they must be constantly replacing failed hard drives - just due to the sheer quantity of them in use - Jacob Old
It wasn't entirely clear to me from the blog post what you have to do to replace a drive. Looks like at minimum you have to remove the unit from the rack, and I don't see any drawer guides or similar to assist with that. And do they have to take the unit offline to replace a single drive? - Jason Wehmhoener
Geez. Back in 1998, Microsoft was bragging about their 1 TB cloud... :-) Millions of $ then I think. - Mitchell Tsai
One happy Backblaze customer checking in. - Russellreno
sounds neat - now what to do with 67 TB of storage... - Matt Ellsworth
Seriously Matt! Lots and Lots and Lots of video? HD video! - Rick Cogley
So, they store their data "securely" in Palo Alto? That makes me scared. - Jonas S Karlsson
Quoted from blog- "Backblaze Storage Pods are building blocks upon which a larger system can be organized that doesn’t allow for a single point of failure." They have indicated an amazing amount of cost savings. - Wins Fern
$117k for a petabyte of storage. Wow. - Nicholas James
Petabyte schmetabyte. - Rick Cogley
Mitchell: I don't think 1TB was "millions of dollars" in 1998. - Steve de Mena
Nice idea. Pity that it only supports a HTTPS interface, not surprising at that cost though (the software that runs the filesystems on the NetApp and other devices isn't exactly cheap to write). Anyone see if they quoted transfer speeds? I'm wondering what impact the four SATA cards each with SATA multipliers on them has when it comes to access speeds. - Russ
Steve: according to http://www.littletechshoppe.com/ns1625... disk cost ~$0.08 / mb in 1998, which comes out to >$800,000 for 1 TB or just over a million bucks in todays dollars. so maybe not millions, but a million! - Karl Rosaen
Russ: It runs Debian. If you were rolling your own (and they don't sell these units), you could turn on NFS or some other protocol (CIFS, iSCSI). They only use HTTP because it's cloud storage. NFS license is a major expense on NetApp, but all the major Linux distributions can act as NFS servers, CIFS servers, and probably iSCSI targets. - Andy Dustman
Andy: I know that you could do that on them but it leaves the problem of what to do with the storage. You could merge the 3 volumes into an LVM VG but the performance could become an issue with any load on it. It seems I wasn't the only one to question the performance, while the views of a Sun engineer aren't exactly unbiased it does highlight some of the downsides: http://www.c0t0d0s0.org/archive... - Russ
Russ, great find, thanks. - Jason Wehmhoener
Fascinating article; but more questions: "In rough terms, every time one of our customers buys a hard drive, Backblaze needs another hard drive." -- so what happens when a drive fails; how much redundancy is there? What happens when a meteorite destroys the whole building; is there off site backup too? (I know this *is* the off-site backup, but still...) I wonder how much data flows in and out over time. Maybe I should just read their website. - Rob Fisher
Rob: they mention using 15 drive RAID6 volumes that can lose up to 2 drives before failure - Mike Chelen
The worst part about this cluster design is the fact that I couldn’t shut up about it for the first couple days after finding out about it. It was the solution I proposed to every problem. There were complaints. - A Mitchell
IMO RAID6 is not that great. Granted, it's highly unlikely to lose 3 drives at the same time, but there's still possibility. Besides, for write-intensive app, parity calculation is quite time-consuming. I personally prefer RAID 10 (striped array of RAID1 pairs). Yes the effective usable space is less than half total capacity, but for backups -- which will sooner or later be used to restore something -- I prefer data integrity over usage efficiency. - Pandu ● IT Optimizer from fftogo

What makes me laugh is that everyone is loving friendfeed all of a sudden, when it's been around for like two years, as awesome as ever. No one knew about it though! I really think it could have been a Twitter killer if the right people joined. - Sam Guzman

yes several - Lynn
but there is no list like twitter - Lynn
Welcome - Alejandro
Ok folks, the difference between friend feed and a chat room is that a chatroom doesn't aggregate all your social media activity. friendfeed pulls in your activity from a bunch of social media sites, like youtube, facebook, twitter, etc. but also provides the functionality of twitter and a chat room. So basically it's your social media life on steroids. Very powerful. - Sam Guzman
Lynn... on the right hand side.. is your friends... - Rob Sellen :o)

Think of it as the place where all of your online stuff goes. You see the stuff, say, that your friends on Twitter are liking on YouTube. You can then talk about it, favorite it, etc. just like you do on Facebook. It's a mashup of all of your Web activity in one place. - Steve Lynch from twhirl
Lynn... you will like it here, you will notice whenever anything gets commented on, or liked, it jumps to the top of the page... - Rob Sellen :o)
The key to FriendFeed is following me. :) - Andrew
She'll never see this but I just have to comment knowing that I interacted with Demi Moore. ;) - Keith - @tsudo
It's amazing that with all of Demi's followers that she doesn't get more people over here. I'm noticing a trend: not many people engage on Tweets. - Robert Scoble
ahh that is why nothing is in the order it was posted in - Lynn
Be sure to add the bookmarklet to your browser. Makes posting to FriendFeed much easier. - Robert Kenney
It's nice to see so many new people joining up; welcome to everyone! I was going to suggest some of you check out the FriendFeed for Beginners group but I see someone else has already done that. Otherwise, the best suggestion I can offer you all is to do a search for some things that interests you and follow the people that posted them. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Subscribe to Holden. - Gus
Robert..I have noticed that on twitter they tend to struggle..... celebs would be in the element on here.. - Rob Sellen :o)
thanks for that Andrew I knew there was a right way to do this haha - Lynn
Well I apologize to those that took offense to my initial comment. That's just my take: show me some substance. Welcome Demi! - Chad Gesser from BuddyFeed
http://bit.ly/8dSsK <<< IF more of you tweeted that to her with @herusername she may take notice... - Rob Sellen :o)
Nice to see her here. Yet in this service, celebrities need to participate on the conversation which is what makes this different than Twitter. - Manuel Mas
It would be deliciously ironic if the buyout that everyone was worried about was the making of FF! - Matt G
Try not to get all caught up in out techno-babble, but a lot of learning here. - professor daddyo
Everyone's new at some point. The more the better. - Robert Kenney
lol.. chad.. the point is.. she probably not come back since posting.. but she will do.. and THEN realise what she missed.. - Rob Sellen :o)
Holden: come now. She has 1.7 million followers. This place should be going absolutely crazy if they were very engaged. - Robert Scoble
Steve: that's what I meant to say! lol - Chad Gesser from BuddyFeed
oh demi- it would make my night if you said something on here to us. :) - Tina Haight
I like old people. - Michael McKean
I agree.. but then, how many actually click her links... not many i bet. - Rob Sellen :o)
hmmm. can't wait here all night, demi! - Tina Haight
Scoble: engage, engage, engage. That to me is the point, which is very attractive about FF. Might I add connection? - Chad Gesser from BuddyFeed
start adding all your other social accounts (if you have any), that's the real kick to friendfeed (at least for me), an all in one feed - Gubatron
welcome chad, we like that much better - Lynn
Well I was hoping she would talk with us. Oh well. - Ben Hanten
Robert Scoble: Most Tweets aren't very... engaging! :) - Steve Lynch from twhirl
anyone watch big brother? - Tina Haight
nope hells kitchen - Lynn
NO.. not that shit bb.. not on here lol - Rob Sellen :o)
oh i love hells kitchen too - Tina Haight
leave big brother on twitter eh... ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I saw that Rob :) - Mattb4rd
haha! but it's such a great show. and i am still excited about tonight's show. ;) - Tina Haight
welcome. where is ashton? :P - Oğuz Serdar
we don't need bb crap here .. I get away from tv and twitter to escape it!!! - Rob Sellen :o)
Demi just posted to twitter I tried to tell her we were all waiting for her but... - Lynn
we don't need ashton either ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
getting a little testie arent we - Lynn
I think they come as a set - Lynn
lol - Lynn
no... I am just sayng.. both in one night would crash the place lol... if they started using it that is... - Rob Sellen :o)
Ashton was on the Dan Patrick Show today and was hilarious. Gained a bunch of new respect for him. - Ben Hanten
They could not crash FF....FF FTW.... - Bill Heslin
haha they do generate a bit of traffic - Lynn
Ashton's FF account is a twitter dump...no engagement...Damn..I got sucked back into this conversation again...lol - Bill Heslin
I didn't like the way he did things at twitter at all... told him as much too.. - Rob Sellen :o)
i'm not gonna lie- i'm a pretty big deal too. - Tina Haight
ok i'm lying. - Tina Haight
ark at you tina... ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
;) i DO have 88 followers on twitter. on my way to the million mark - Tina Haight
wow.. :o) doing good... follow that many on here tonight and see what the power of this place is like ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I never had heard of it before but I'm trying now. Is it fairly new? - Barry Winters from iPhone
lol - Lynn
barry.. no... not so new..as much as sold..lol ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
suggestions? Yeah start chatting back while you still just have 175 subscribers :D - BairdWilliamson
Welcome to all the new visitors. Barry, this is about 18 months old, but lots of new features were turned on recently. - Robert Scoble
alright- i am giving up hope on demi coming. have been staring at a computer screen all day and night for work. - Tina Haight
night everyone! - Tina Haight
night nice chatting - Lynn
What?! The Scobelizer is a doubter as well? Tack it on to the list... - iamkhayyam
Yeah, welcome to all... :o) any problems you only have to ask..ask ANYONE lol ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I'm not a doubter anymore! :-) - Robert Scoble
nice meeting you tina.. night. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Haha! There you go... she's Verified :) - iamkhayyam
make a group, add all your favorite sites. - Tyson
What do you mean, Demi, "any suggestions?" What are you looking for? And why aren't you engaging, er, talking with us here? - Robert Scoble
lmao..... good one robert.. shame she missed it happen in real time lol :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
lol - Gtp19
Hi Demi. You're a little late to the party. We are all worried they are going to shut us out of this nice little cozy club called Friendfeed and lead us back to the shark-infested waters of Facebook. We are still makin' hay while the sun shines. :-) - Karma Martell
Well, if she's turned off real-time she might not even be seeing the comments yet, Robert. Or perhaps she made the post and left for dinner (west coast and all) and will check back later. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
...cool! welcome to FF. did you beat Ashton here? - .LAG liked that
this is like a really really private party with only 198 following on friendfeed...Demi leave the party already? - Rex Gradeless
This is just too cool. - Sherrie Belken
http://bit.ly/8dSsK << RT that in reply to her... see if she gets to see it at least ONE bloody time lol... - Rob Sellen :o)
It seems she doesn't care the comments. - Oğuz Serdar
perhaps just not aware they are here ... - Tom Horn
Engaging?! Seriously Scoble? Haha... that's a funny one. One msg on FriendFeed and then she's off for some Kabbalah teachings. - iamkhayyam
probably Demi doesn like to be part of comments, rather she likes to make the headlines, i mean the posts, lol :D - Gtp19
+1 Robert - Robert Kenney
ok gettin mean now gotta go - Lynn
LoL Hi Demi... Welcome to the FF Mob! Now go and spread some hate </extremesarcasm> - teh Dork Knight aka Kenny
Lynn: see ya, sorry about the meanness. But it would be nice to see Demi actually chat for a few minutes so she could get a sense of the power of friendfeed. - Robert Scoble
Demi: I see you're here. And welcome to all the new people on FriendFeed. I'd like to see you (and Ashton) take part in the conversations here. ;) - Dennis Jernberg
aggreed but bein mean isn't gonna make it happen - Lynn
Hahah! ++1000 tehKenny - Bill Heslin
Maybe she is too awestruck at the magnificence of friendfeed to type. I am imagining her sitting there frozen with her mouth hanging open watching all of this going on. - April Russo (app103)
yes, we would love to have Demi here.. long live friendfeed... i mean until its shut down!! - Gtp19
Well, you're about to get a billion responses of course, but you should hook up feeds from other sites you use too, not just Twitter. Maybe a YouTube channel too? Or Flickr? - Ciaoenrico
while wondering why twitter just..sits there lol - Rob Sellen :o)
April: That makes sense - Matt G
Welcome indeed. You should add more of your feeds to your FF account - Vinko
sub to some of the others here in this thread.. you all get to learn this place together then... - Rob Sellen :o)
Maybe she's thinking how on earth she's meant to keep up with the comments, posting from her blackberry/iphone/othermobiledevice :P - 1x29
@April That could be it. FF in Helvetica mode is hypnotic ... - Tom Horn
Thanks for that @iconic88 :) Always a good reminder... #love is all there is :) - iamkhayyam
Welcome to FF! - Jack Wilson, K4SAC
lol @ Tom - Gtp19
Thank you iconic88 - Sherrie Belken
FF in any mode is hypnotic. I haven't been able to pull myself away for many months. - April Russo (app103)
OK, predictions on how many comments this post will top out at? I'm going for 2,000. - 1x29
Hmm .. no , I think we are done. This is probably the last one ... - Tom Horn
Now everyone isl just staring waiting for Demi to comment :p - Gary Gannon
More points if you guess the number of posts before Demi makes a comment :) - 1x29
nah...plenty more will come later when everyone else sees it in best of day. - April Russo (app103)
and if she happens to engage it'll explode - Gary Gannon
yeah, its jus warming up... plenty more to come. - Gtp19
http://bit.ly/8dSsK << could tweet her that link.. its this THREAD .. ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Demi this is my first time trying this after you. What is the difference between this and twitter? How did u find this?....Kim Goedde - Kim Goedde
Kim: Look through the thread. There's lots of advice. - Christopher A Carr
Kim, Demi hasn't been back on the thread to respond yet. I can't speak for her, but for me the biggest difference between FF and Twitter is the organization. If you send out a tweet you have to watch for @replies in response to that tweet, and they're kind of easy to miss. On FF when you make a post, all the replies to it are lined up underneath and it's much easier to follow (and take part) in the conversation. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina...You are one of the best Ambassadors for FF..Well said - Bill Heslin
That's the whole deal Tina - Sherrie Belken
Well, that's a big part of it Sherrie. The inclusion of media is another big selling point (for me, at least). Here people can include images, files, audio, or video on their posts and I can see/hear it here. On Twitter there's always a clickthrough, an extra tab or window, etc... Perhaps I'm lazy, but I like being able to interact with it all in one spot =) - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Demi-are you getting paid to promote these sites? I have posted comments now and again and have never got 1 response from you......Kim Goedde - Kim Goedde
Yes, I see posts that include the pics from my twitter account. Very cool. - Sherrie Belken
PJ WRONG.. whatever Scoble says is the right thing for HIM to do... and it may work for you, or not.. just use the place and find you own rhythm here. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Kim... why does THAT bother you.... do you think you could repsond to all those 1.7 million odd? THAT is why we are trying to say to her here... you should see this thread.. but she hasn't yet been back it seems... NO-ONE owes you a reply.. we learn that the hard way ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
250+ subscribers and counting. I'm holding off for now, even if all the rest of the geeks are subscribing. Not following her on Twitter. Demi, you'd better give me a good reason to subscribe. *switches to wait & see mode* - Dennis Jernberg
Robert:Same thing here as on Twitter. Only a "handful" of "followers/subscribers" engage. - Dana Fosburgh
My one suggestion to you, since FriendFeed will probably be a high traffic place for you - check out Robert Scoble (scobleizer) and see how he handles high volume. - John E. Bredehoft from fftogo
i like this so far.. - wendy smith
A good suggestion - Sherrie Belken
Learn from the master. ;) - Dennis Jernberg
'Crickets' - Robert Kenney
sheesh... her subs are crap... subbing mainly to people who never use the place??? - Rob Sellen :o)
That was just imported - Sherrie Belken
Yeah. When you join FF, it imports your Twitter follows. That's why I have over 120 subscriptions when I have only 75 subscribers: people on Twitter join, and I subscribe to them automagically. - Dennis Jernberg
was also useless lol ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Hey Demi, welcome to Friend Feed. Hope all is well with you and those you love. Think about adding Robert Scoble to your Friend Feed list. He is the leading expert on all things Friend Feed, and usually is the first to give us heads up when something new is coming down the pike. Take care of you! =) - SashaKane
If you use Firefox, download Yoono --a Firefox add-on that allows you to see Twitter, Facebook, Friendfeed in Firefox, and gives a central place where all can be updated simultaneously. - Danny Groveman
thats what I wanted - Sherrie Belken
Can be overwhelmed by Scobles feed at times..not ideal for a new user.. - Rob Sellen :o)
Hi. Welcome to FriendFeed. - Steven Perez
DYDMoore than steve perez. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Welcome to FriendFeed, Demi! I will definitely be sure to subscribe to you here! - Thomas Ward
comment, like, share! - Sean Oliver

Hello Demi ❤ Glad to see you here! - Jannifer @wordsforliving
I honestly only use FF to compile all my sites, almost never for discussions - Allison Warnock
what a strange turn of events considering the situation at hand..a bit late. but better late than never i guess. Welcome to all the new users. - Carlos Ayala
Glad to see you are here Demi, It's a pleasure. - Sherrie Belken
Suggestions... Well, stop being cool about it and write something!.. - Timsah memet
just play around D and you'll figure it out - Thomas Power
She still not been back then?? - Rob Sellen :o)
ok, i'm trying it too. just hope she doesn't try jumping off a bridge or i'm screwed - Laurel howard
I' m new and trying this too. I see your comments from Twitter on this thing too, are they linked?-confused : ( - Rose
Glad to have you both join us, Laurel and Rose =) Rose, Demi is importing her Twitter stream into FriendFeed, that's why you see her Twitter items here. When you comment on one of her Twitter items here, there's a checkbox that will allow you to send that comment to her on Twitter as an @reply. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
its like when kawasaki popped in for a single conversation last month. must be hard to deal whe you get so many replies - Robert Higgins
So many replies that aren't very welcoming don't help matters either. - pea
In reality all we've gained by Demi Moore's brief appearance is a number of celebrity stalkers hoping to cut her off at one more cyber pass and get the one reply they're living their lives for. The best demonstration yet of Scobles 'who you follow, defines you'? - 1x29
demi! we love you. just showed my daughters your 1986 classic movie about last night. they fell in love with you as i did! - JNez
Has Scoble ever had 385 comments here? What's the record? ;O - Rob Schieber
Nope: http://friendfeed.com/mikenay... Open at your peril. - Steven Perez from IM
Yes, Scoble has had 385 comments on FF. His post just this week re: FF geeks got over 1200. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Start by subbing to the peeps who comment on this thread. - Thom Kennon
Scoble has a thread from this week re FF addicts that i think has 1500 comments and counting. - Thom Kennon
yeah @Robert Higgins, Kawasaki kindasorta just disappeared pretty quickly didn't he?... - Thom Kennon
a few said he would tho... no surprise to see them ignoring the threads... daft really, why bother even starting one.... - Rob Sellen :o)
Like, share, follow and be merry. Welcome. - Jim Goldstein from iPhone
FF can be fun, emotional, crazy, and always entertaining. Just speak up when you see something interesting. Like Twitter, but more rounded. And don't mind the doom and gloom chatter that wanders around... some folks just don't handle change well. :D Welcome... - Bette Cooper
I've had lots of threads more than 385. Here's a list: http://friendfeed.com/search... -- this is why the search here rocks. Click on "Advanced Search" and you can find answers to all these kinds of questions. - Robert Scoble
Why can't you like a comment on FF? I hereby like that comment. - Amy℠
we say +1 amy ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
i dont get this - Lin Hill
bye - Lin Hill
Do you have any specific questions, Lin? - Christopher A Carr
i dont know how to do this - Lin Hill
You can sort of think of it as Twitter + a searchable, multimedia chatroom, that aggregates your web activity. You can have FF pull in your Youtube favorites, Amazon wish list, etc... - Christopher A Carr
oh right.. maybe i should try again 2morrow when i havent had a drink, cause i dont get that at all - Lin Hill
Try the friendfeed bookmarklet: http://friendfeed.com/share... - There's a short video tutorial. - Christopher A Carr
ok thanks, i will try that - Lin Hill
Lin, what exactly would you like to do on FriendFeed? Are you just wanting to aggregate your items from around the internet, have conversations with other people, etc? There are lots of different ways to use FriendFeed depending on what you'd like to get out of it =) - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Interesting to see what this thread has become, especially since Demi Moore has not checked back into FriendFeed since posting this. - Justin Korn
ummm not sure what i want, think maybe i should leave quietly by back door - Lin Hill
Lin: How do you use Twitter? - Christopher A Carr
just follow people and comment now and then, thats all - Lin Hill
Lin: I ask, because you are essentially tweeting with multiple people right now, without having to use @... - Christopher A Carr
FF has *really* good search. Look for content that interests you. Comment and like, and people will subscribe to you... - Christopher A Carr
Nah, leaving's not necessary Lin. Especially if you've had a drink: Friday nights on FriendFeed can be fun! If you'd like to see what FriendFeed looks like to be, check http://friendfeed.com/isthiss... That page is what FriendFeed looks like to me because of the people I follow (which is a lot, so you might want to pause it). I use FF to have fun and find good conversations. Other people use it for research, or business, or just to aggregate their material online. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
well, this is the most i`ve been tweeted to since i started, i dont feel invisible anymore! - Lin Hill
Don't just import your Twitter like that ditz, Kim Kardashion. But do import what you feel and read and participate in posts. The key thing is participation on here from teaching something to learning something. - Outsanity
whos kim k - Lin Hill
Taking a look at your profile, I see that you're only following 12 people and not really commenting/liking all that much. That's probably why you're not getting a lot of interaction. Find some people that are interesting and interact with them on their posts. Once you start having conversations with people on their material, they get interested in what you have to say and are more likely to follow you back. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Imagine if Twitter included video and pictures in Tweets, and provided you with a threaded conversation to discuss your tweets... well, that's what you have here -- and that's just the beginning. - Christopher A Carr
i didnt realise i even had 12, where did you find that out? - Lin Hill
Has Demi checked back with us yet?? It will never be too late. - Amani
Click on your name in the upper right hand corner, Lin. - Christopher A Carr
it sounds good, i will keep at it 'practise makes perfect' and all that - Lin Hill
That's exactly it, Lin =) Let us know if you have any other questions: it can be kind of confusing when you first get going... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
And can you imagine people helping you like this on Twitter? ;-) - Christopher A Carr
Oh, and try out different themes.. - Christopher A Carr
half the people i`m subscribed too i didnt even choose!! whats that about?? - Lin Hill
Never drink and FriendFeed at the same time - Outsanity
i didnt subscribe to red nose day!! - Lin Hill
Do you follow them on Twitter? - Christopher A Carr
not all of them, just a few - Lin Hill
Did you sign up to FriendFeed with your Twitter credentials, Lin? If so, it will subscribe you to the people you follow on Twitter that are on Friendfeed. It's not a big deal, really: all you do is hover over their name and click 'unsubscribe' if you don't want them. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
ok, thanks everyone, i`ll subscribe to all of you instead - Lin Hill
FriendFeed Rocks ;) No need for anything else! Happy to have you on board! - Nia from fftogo

well i be darned .... we now can rejoice, since fast paced additions to already good product are surely fastly coming about off the feedpipe ... it'l be a hectic season of finest upgrades ... I'm sure they'l start with keyboard shortcutze. ... I mean Google Reader rules on that. Intelligent to the extreme. ..Google.com, on the other hand - are we sleeping? .. not even "/" ??.. and that... more... - Petr Buben
Congrats Ben! Totally agree with Jason. Our latest project wouldn't have become feasible without Ben -- I'm just so glad we managed to get a fraction of his time before he left! :) - Simon
Congratulations, Ben! You're joining an awesome team. - Anne Bouey
It'll be funny if Google buys FF! - Peng-Toh

Hiring new staff while in secret acquisition talks, not exactly classy guys. I hope Ben knew what he was getting into - Glenn Slaven
Why on earth does he use the Duck Hunt theme? - Raphael, Raphael
I don't know.. but it is awesome! :) - Tim Hoeck
Paul Buchheit
Obviously I can't provide a lot of detailed plans and guarantees, but I can tell you that I'll do my personal best to ensure that the FriendFeed users and community are treated right. I love this product too, and don't want to see it disappear.
That's great to read! - Diego Barros 
Thank you, Paul. - joey

Good of you to recognize. - Bill Kinney
Thank you, Paul. Hearing something is always better than hearing nothing =) - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I think this was a smart move fore FF and FB - Joe Hall
What about the service? - Amit Morson

That's heartening, Paul. Thanks. - Admiral Anika
Thanks Paul! - Darren Heydon
We love you guys and FriendFeed.. we are just a little hurt and worried.. just please give us details as soon as possible. - Tim Hoeck
FriendFeed lets me use people as filters to turn data into information. Facebook doesn't. Until it does, please, Please, PLEASE keep FriendFeed as a destination alive. - AJ Kohn
congrats guys! facebook needs what you got! - Lorna Herf
I'm sorry that I haven't said more about this. As you can imagine, it has been an extraordinarily busy day (and I've barely slept in the past week). - Paul Buchheit
I'll add my plea to the chorus: Please don't take FriendFeed away from us. And don't make us go to Facebook (because we won't). FriendFeed means a lot to a lot of people and the thought that it will dry up and blow away shortly is very disturbing. - Fa La La La Lindsay
It's still great to hear from you Paul. Congrats on that new swimming pool full of cash. :D - Tad
Simply glad you're here now. You've always been a very responsive and transparent team. As much as I cringe at the thought of FF going away, I *am* happy for you and the team. - AJ Kohn
Thanks Paul. - John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Thank you kind sir. - Andrew Smith
I request you make it to the next scheduled FFundercats podcast to talk to the community. This announcement deserves a live appearance to the community. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Have been dealing unsucessfully with Twitter for two days, trying to get logged in...Their password reset page says"Snap we can't find you." I keep writing to Tech Support at Twitter and get their helpful auto-generated Twitter Trouble shooting email. My problem is not there. =( Hope FriendFeed does not get that blaise about helping users. @EV - SashaKane
If FB can't keep the service running, would you consider open-sourcing the thing, so we can? - Christopher Galtenberg from iPhone
Hi Paul, thanks for the assurances. In the future, I would highly suggest that you make this sort of statement shortly after the initial merger release. Thanks again. - Alex Scoble
Thanks for keeping the passion! - Shane
Nice to hear Paul. Thanks. - Mark Krynsky
I would like to give you a hug right now Paul. However, that would be awkward and April might beat me up so I will just say thank you and press the like button. - EricaJoy
Best news I have heard today. - Angus Burton
Thank you for affirming that. Much appreciated. - Karoli
A few more points that would be nice to have addressed soon. Ability to export data, tool to import friends to Facebook, and will ff.im urls continue to function? - Mark Krynsky
Amelioration?? - heretic_twit
Those that like friendfeed as is should be most pleased with this statement, as it probably means maintenance to keep the current system as is, without as much attention to new features. It's also good news for all those who like both friendfeed and facebook, as facebook will likely adopt the better features from friendfeed - Ivan Kirigin
That means an awful lot to me. - James (!?)
This has been quite a day! Can't wait to hear what is next! - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Thank you, Paul. Thank you for coming out from behind the curtain and finally giving us some communication, some semblance of hope. - Akiva Moskovitz
Thanks, Paul. - Mistletoe Glen
So we can expect a Facebook adaption of this? I like this technology over everyone else! - Shaggy Jenkins
Eric, my schedule is still a little uncertain at the moment, but I'd be glad to appear on a future FFundercats. - Paul Buchheit
That would be a good thing Paul. Thanks. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Cool :) - Susan Beebe from iPhone
I like this. - ashish from iPhone
Thanks for making FriendFeed what it is, and lets hope it stays that way, though there's slim chance of that - Aaman (Clone of FF)
Now that I think about it: are you kidding me? They've already stated that FriendFeed's going to be absorbed into Facebook. What kind of sleight-of-hand are you trying to pull now, Paul? - Akiva Moskovitz
@EricaJoy: I have nothing against hugs. :) - April Buchheit
Thanks! - Vincenzo Piromalli
Thanks, Paul. I've been getting more and more depressed thinking about the bad ways this could go. The reassurances help a bit, at least. In fact, just hearing you speak on the point is encouraging - the open lines of communication between the FriendFeed team and its users has always been one of the great things about FriendFeed that I'm afraid will be lost with the Facebook buyout. And yes, a FFundercats appearance would be a great idea. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I don't want to read too much into this reassurance but the "personal best" remark made me think like there is not a united FF anymore and that it's up to your personal efforts to prevent it from being eaten by FB :) - Turker Keskinpala
you can sell the tech but the community can not be bought sold transferred or merged - Robert Higgins from f2p
Turker, I do believe that this deal was the right decision -- I'll write a bit more about that when I get a chance. I say that I'll do my "personal best" because I will -- it would be misleading to make promises on other's behalf :) - Paul Buchheit
Hoping so... practicing patience - Majento
Paul: I'm hopeful that this will be the best for both Facebook and Friendfeed. What you and the staff at FF have done is amazing, with only 12 people! I love the service here. I also enjoy Facebook (one I ignore all quizzes and stupid apps), but in a different way. Hoping some coolness can be brought to both. Good luck to you and your team! - Travis B. Hartwell
this echoes star wars galaxies, incredible unique community. but they upgraded it to be like world of warcraft. this is a replay of the devs soothing messages. the forums were livid the community evaporated. - Robert Higgins from f2p
When socialmedian was acquired by Xing they left it alone. I hope the same happens here. I'm sure you will do your best though! - Michael Fidler
On behalf of the Dutch citizens our Queen wants to let you know: Thx Paul. - Ton Zijp
Don't know what to say, so lets start with big congrats! from one hand, as an early member of Friendfeed I think we've created here a very cool, collaborative and tech-savvy/passionate community of great people that all probably wish to stick around as much as possible. From the other hand, I know how corporates work and it takes one small decision of share holders to close Friendfeed... more... - Nir Ben Yona
My first reaction is disappointment. I don't believe big corporations do better than small ones. Facebook is inferior to FriendFeed, although it's user base is much larger. Clearly FriendFeed won't survive in the long term, unless it is open sourced. Why not open up and embrace the wonders of the GPL instead of joining forces with the Walled Garden no #1? Facebook don't even operate with permalinks,. - Morten Blaabjerg
Thanks for the explanation Paul. Of course, I congratulate you guys. I think anyone would do the same thing if they were in your shoes :) - Turker Keskinpala
Very bittersweet clicking [Like] on this one. - Nicholas Kreidberg
A big congrats for you guys.. However, I feel kind of sorrow :) - Ozkan Altuner
good to hear - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Thank you - but I would very much like our content to stay intact. :) - Mona Nomura
Of course it is, Ryo. - Christopher A Carr
Ryo: if you delete your account everything goes away. I totally disagree with you about Facebook, but that's OK. - Robert Scoble
Good to hear. Unfortunately I think Facebook are going to download the brains of all FriendFeed staff then kill FF. - Michael McGimpsey
but Paul it is going to disappear - Facebook bought FF not for the site but for you guys. So obviously once its integrated into Facebook, development on FF will stop - Anthony Feint
If FriendFeed and all of it's functionality get integrated into Facebook I'm all for it. - Hugh Isaacs II
Thank you Paul! Congrats on the deal! - Garin Kilpatrick
Paul - that's great news. It surely can't cost a lot to keep this place running and it's a good place to try out ideas before they move to FB. - Martin Bryant
what about improving the product and making sure it gets more users, not only supports those who stay? - Ihar Mahaniok
Ihar - unlikely. Facebook bought FF for the developer talent, not for FriendFeed itself. - Martin Bryant from iPhone
Martin - I also think so, and it is most likely. But I could still have a hope - Ihar Mahaniok
Paul, please - underpromise & overdeliver...they say it works. - A.T.
Nice to hear. Too bad you don't call the shots anymore. - jcunwired
FriendFeed is Dead! Long Live FriendFeed! (nice name for Facebook skunkworks) I'm sure everyone would love to see FriendFeed itself stay around, even if the innovations that happen are geared towards implementation at Facebook. Thanks for this note Paul! :) - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
There are a few promises and guarantees that you SHOULD be able to provide. Like, that our network of friends will remain intact and that the features that make this site great will remain. If you can't make those promises, then you shouldn't have done the deal. I sure do hope that the real-time search engine wasn't the centerpiece of this deal (it probably was), because that certainly... more... - Brad Williamson
Paul you did such a nice job with friendfeed, and I so want to believe you, but I'm not sure I can. Not because of you, but because of your new employer. Because your new employer is no longer you, and while I have kind of come to trust you, I do not trust your new boss. Not at all. Please prove me wrong, if they'll let you. - Jim in Real Time
Paul - thanks for that reassurance. PLEASE stick to that! I was in the middle of reading and participating in a lengthy discussion off of a Robert Scoble post yesterday ... then I came up for air and saw your news. Congratulations - I have no idea what that feels like or how pumped you must be. There are so many things FF does that I LOVE...I know you know that. Please Please PLease dont' go away! Thanks! - Tobin Truog
Thank you, I think everyone here loves Friendfeed. :) - Hunt from BuddyFeed
Thanks for the personal note Paul. - Mike Reynolds
Phewww..relief ;-) - Ritu
This is nice to hear, and I really hope that FriendFeed will keep on living. I still have some pain in my stomach because of this :/ - Patrik Johansson
First zombie/mafia request and we're all outta here.... - Fossil Huntress
+1 Fossil Huntress The partitioning of the networks between friendfeed and facebook was a major feature that many people made use of, lacking appropriate controls for who sees what. Merging the two groups of friends isn't going to work, at all. - Mr. Gunn
It doesn't sound like you understand what has people worried. I wrote this to help: http://friendfeed.com/brlewis... - Bruce Lewis
And we'll appreciate this man! Try to do your best to help FF :( - FFTornado
Maybe Bruce analysis is too imaginary, but the question is THE question nobody answered: why did you do it, Paul? - Luca Sofri
I left a response on Bruce's entry (http://friendfeed.com/brlewis...). I'll write more about this on my blog when I get some free time. - Paul Buchheit
Thanks. - Bonnie Foster
we all know what needs to happen. the question is, where? ... FB needs, - apart from being/it is, a large, general, open application platform, - 1. Smart keyboard shortkatze - and Im a kbsCzar to go to, 2. Aggregating facilities, smart /RSS/ .. 3. Full blogging facilities, capabilities, not 140 chars. 4. Full real time comments facilities, capabilities. 5. Real time, live, but ALSO... more... - Petr Buben
I hope you're being open and honest with us. This time. :( - Kamilah Gill
Good to know , we´ll see :) - Yahya
Thank you! I am sure you will do great things at FB. I just hope that the great app you built here isn't destroyed. I don't know of any other aggregation app that I can embed into my site like this one! - beersage
Congratulations on your successes, best wishes for more. And thanks for continuing to look out for us loyal, addicted FFanatics! - Rob Schieber
I hope it continues, i'm a new user and absolutely love it (wish i knew the value of it before)! Congrats! - Luis D. Santos
As nice as it sounds I'm sorry to say that as a, now, Facebook's employee I'm afraid you'll have to comply to whatever your new boss tells you. Didn't MZ make it clear? - lelapin
and let me add second, obvious, "Facebook needs" - Friendfeed bookmarklet, and Friendfeed tools - widgets, embedding - real time and not - of posts, and groups ...to embedd, to inject oneself into this thing called Internet ..... so, if FB listens to FF engineering long enough, they are going to get it .. right - Petr Buben
Paul, what I am worried is not that you're brainwashed, but that there's simply no business need for Facebook to improve FriendFeed from now on, period. - Ihar Mahaniok
I have confidence Paul. While some of the comments were probably uncalled for, covering an investment (of time and money) in these times to move on and hopefully provide even 'better stuff' makes sense to me. It's pretty obvious there are a LOT of people that don't want to 'lose' Friendfeed. (I wouldn't hold a town hall for a few weeks though :) - Charlie Anzman
Congrats, Paul. It's sad that people have to make these uncalled for hatred comments about Facebook though. Why can't both sites work together. I think Facebook will do better with FF and vise versa. Take the good features of both services. Don't boycott FB, enjoy it. I'm sick of the negative comments going on, that's all. :( - Molly, New Ears :P
Molly: What makes you think there's going to be a "vise versa?" - Christopher A Carr
Because I don't think Paul and the other FF developers would allow FB to do anything. I'm sorry, I am not going to think negative here like some here are. I guess I'm a fangirl for FB. - Molly, New Ears :P
Finally something about the changes on the horizon that isn't all d0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0om and whining. Thank you, Paul! :D - Christian (Simply X)
The time to think about how you could do your 'personal best' to ensure FriendFeed continues to exist was prior to the discussions with Facebook. Not after. - Andy C
Paul, what about the content scam that FB T&C is, does it apply to Friendfeed now? Should we all start writing scripts to retroactively delete all content ever uploaded to Friendfeed? Elaborated a bit here - http://friendfeed.com/mbravo... - Michael Bravo
We know you'll try your best, Paul. But sometimes, you just can't win the dark side... - Winston Teo
Thanks Paul for all your efforts. Founders often want the best, but acquiring companies often have people with political/power issues or different/limited visions. - Mitchell Tsai
*throws a sheep at Paul* is that a good thing? - Joe from iPod
Yeahhhhhhh BOoooiiiiiiiii!!!!!!! - sofarsoShawn
yes, thank you, Sergeant Paul ... well, good to hear we go on ... because if not, how about starting www.anotherFeed.com ... or, www.Letsgofeed.com ...... anyway, lets boost blogging capabilities, post more than current amount of chars, lets have TOP POSTS / clicks count list at the head of each group, some stats, lets index group headers, lets have MORE keyboard shortcuts .. - now ...... more... - Petr Buben

What? No lawyers in suits? Mark's setting a pretty low bar on the dress code for this sort of thing...:) - Tomas Remotigue
Our lawyers were wearing shorts actually -- no air conditioning at their office on Sundays I guess. - Paul Buchheit
Zuckerberg's the only one from FB who could be bothered to show up? - Andy Bakun
American big business such a formal affair - Robert Higgins
Contrary to popular misconception, lawyers don't actually enjoy wearing suits. Haul us into work on a Sunday, and we'll definitely be dressing comfortably. :) - Brian Chang
Andy, the person on the left is Vaughan Smith from Facebook. Sanjeev (the fourth FriendFeed founder) is not pictured because he was boarding an airplane. - Paul Buchheit
Paul, that's so awesome. FB's an awesome company to do business with. - Jesse Stay

Congrats and best wishes for the future. - Jeff Stannard
For $50m you could at least have hired a photographer who doesn't shake so much. :) - Rodrigo Jaroszewski
FF was the cutting edge whereas FB is quickly becoming the mainstream. Unfortunately, the mainstream does not necessarily equal innovation and pushing the envelope. We all suffer when innovation is chilled. But on the other hand, congrats to the FF crew. They made their money! - laosan
Congratulations guys! - Diego Barros 
I think the Tiger suit would have been more appropriate! But hey....shorts in a backyard is pretty cool too. - Drea Lester

Looks like Mathew™ has found a UI bug by flooding contiguous characters. - Jay Cuthrell
I don't get the negativity - did no one realize FriendFeed was a business? The object of a business is to sell eventually (either privately or publicly). We should be celebrating their success. This is a huge win for them, as well as Facebook. I personally think it's a huge win for the "loyal users" as well. So now we stab them in the back when they do something huge? - Jesse Stay
Not to mention we know *nothing* about what this will mean for both services. These guys haven't let us down yet, have they? - Jesse Stay
Congratulations to all of you!! - Steve de Mena
The FB/FF deal rocks. Total win for users and developers. - Steve Gillmor

Congrats! The hard work paid off - Becca
Those are the kind of business meetings I could get used to - no suits... but selling to Facebook? Hmmm... Good for someone of course but I suppose we'll see where this ride takes us. - Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
congrats on building an amazing product and incredibly passionate community! I was mad at first, but then realize that the technology was most likely sold, not the community. I'm hoping ff community will stay somewhat untouched and features that have been built into ff will be ported to fb. - Derek Coatney
Congratulations, FriendFeeders! I'm anxious to see what changes this will bring. FriendFeed is my favorite site to visit, so hopefully y'all will find a way to maintain the FF spirit somehow. - Keith Pelczarski
No matter the type of big change, there are those who will not like it, often simply because it's change. I for one am very pleased that two of the services I use most are joining forces, and am eager to see the new developments that come of this acquisition. Congrats to EVERYONE on the FriendFeed team. You all deserve it! You've done a great job with a small company. Now lets see what you can do with a large one :) - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Nicely put, guruvan. - Anne Bouey
What I wonder is ... a 50-million dollar deal and no one has a camera capable of taking a clear photo? :P - Nicholas Kreidberg
Congratulations - Steve C
@Jesse Stay re: "the objective of business is to sell eventually" : Ummm, the objective of many businesses is to become profitable by providing a valuable experience to their users. Businesses that feel they can't do that are the ones that sell. - Shane Gibbons
LOL! ♫ ♫ "ooh, take the money and run"!! ♫ ♫ ;) - Vincenzo Piromalli
Congratulations to everyone involved. Well done. - Darius Dunlap
This is a very sad day in friend feed history. It is horrible because I like friend feed for how it's different from face book. I use facebook but I find it really annoying and I wouldn't use it if my friends and family weren't using it. So if Friend Feed becomes another facebook then i donno if I will keep coming to friend feed. - Colide81 (James) from iPhone
Grats. :) - Joshua Schnell
Congrats to the FF staff, but you'll have to pardon my lack of exuberance. I have mental pictures of being forced to use the FB UI and it makes me sad =( - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)

Where are the photos of everyone celebrating? No beer or champagne? - Shane
Great match-up guys ! The Fabulous Friender Boys ! - Let's see some integrated mashups and extensible apps and FF UI. Given Google and Twitter a run for their money... Looks like they are going to have to "hook-up" now ! - Mike Schmidt
Congratulations Paul and the team! Hopefully we'll still get the same simple UI for FriendFeed. I'm sure however that no matter what you do, things will turn up nicely. - Ovidiu Predescu
Enjoy! - Paul Mayne

@Scobleizer: Come on you're a genius and can not realize future of FF? Turkey was one of important countries which is using FF! They asked no one about this! We hate fcking morons and stupid people on facebook, and I'm sure that this post will be real, just read it: http://ff.im/6pRmM - Ahmet Alp Balkan
But Ahmed you are still being an ass about it, trying to rain on their good times. Go find a hole under the bridge where you belong. You can be sad and not have to come out all bitchy about stuff. Clear thoughtful comments instead of going all into "fuck you" mode. - Rasmus Lauridsen

Been thinking about when we had to shut down our Hello service (realtime photo sharing) at Google last year. Kept it totally separate from Google Accounts, because integration was "too hard". And some of the good in Hello never quite made it over to Google. Lesson might be: don't be precious about integration. You have to survive to be useful!
Also: Hello wasn't really the reason for the acquisition, so the analogy with FF/FB is only a loose one. I suspect these guys will rock Facebook in 10,000 ways. - Michael Herf

Facebook obviously liked FriendFeed a long time ago. Why would they have copied so many features (feed item comments and the "Like" action, to name a couple) otherwise? So, 10-1 odds that Friendfeed will be no more within a year after it gets intergrated into Facebook? - Mathew™ one of a kind
I doubt it Robin. Bret can only give us assurances about the "near future." Here's what I think will happen. Just like Twitter acquired Rael Dornfest and his awesome web services, Stikkit and I Want Sandy vanished (and so did he), Facebook will acquire all the talent from Friendfeed, shut this service down and Facebook will continue to suck. - Jim in Real Time

"I bet I can find 1.000.0000 people who dislike this deal."...Welcome to FriendBook. - Jacque
Well, huge congraulations to you and your team, you deserve every success. To be honest I had presumed this would happen sooner or later - the only business model cool little startups have is to hope they get bought by someone bigger for their brains and technology. I'm going to be in San Francisco in a couple of weeks and was going to stop by your office to bring you a cake and thank you for a great product - maybe I still will if you're still there and there's still a FriendFeed! - Alex Lomas

#ROFLMAO Is there anything more important than money? It seems NOT #ROFLMAO - Lora Lufark
I don't mean to be negative but there's got to be a win-win logic to each merger&acquisiton. Audience high in only quantity is clearly not a win for friendfeed in the long term by considering its unique selling points. Let's wait and see who will benefit from friendfeed's death now. - ayca
It's all about the money. I would have payed a couple of dollars each month to use FF. - Rutger Blom
Seriously, what is this? It's like Bret just announced that he's killed all your mothers or something. It could turn out good, it could turn out bad, but at the end of the day, who cares, it's just a website (I mean honestly, come on). I could see it going either way, but in the near term, this is a pretty big win for the FF team, so congrats guys. - Chieze Okoye

To be honest, my heart sank a little but I am happy to congratulate you and the team for building such a good brand. Well done. - Kevin J Hatton
I'm just surprised, that's all. I'm not saying this is a bad thing (it certainly isn't for the owners of FF). I'm willing to sit back and see what happens. - Jason Huebel

Sudden desire to check out Strands again... but hey, kudos on the incoming $$ for FF team - Leslie Poston
This is wisdom. Bracing for Google Wave is a good idea............. - Kevin J Hatton
this is clearly a talent aquisition... why am i not excited about this? could it be because facebook has been blatantly stealing features from friendfeed shamelessly. Likes were clearly not an original facebook idea...realtime feeds is another i could go on... - Tate DA FF MVP
While I'm sad, because I suspect this means the best things about FF will disappear or I'll be forced to use FB in some way, if the buyout was for some awesome amount of money, I can't say I blame 'em for taking an offer -- I would. - Andy Bakun
I came to FriendFeed because I don't like facebook. Now the question is, will facebook become more like friend feed? or will they just take friend feed and turn it into facebook? - Tom Ray
FF could be a good R&D arm for facebook. - Andy Bakun
My biggest concern here is that FB has a completely different audience than FF. - Rutger Blom
Fucking morons. FriendFeed is doomed now. Think logically. Facebook has NO REASON to keep FriendFeed alive. It will simply take FF's best features, suck the life of out of it, then trash FF. Way to go, FirnedFeed, damn. - Jeremy Buff

Dang, and just as I was starting to get used to how FF works. FF is useful on it's own. I hope this only improves FF's system, rather than having it disappear into Facebook's wake. - Don Faulkner
My big question to everybody here is this: What are the potential downsides / upsides to this acquisition? I mean on paper I just don't see what the pros OR cons are. I don't care for Facebook but I don't see how them acquiring FF is going to change everything. - Nicholas Kreidberg
furthermore they are 2 different things: I follow a lot of people here that are not in my facebook list, which is for IRL friends! - Flavio
I don't know where to go next either. I had just settled down to make imaginary friends for all my non-FF tweeps, etc. now, I'm not sure if I should bother. - Don Faulkner from IM
I hope friendfeed continues to operate normally but it does not look good. - ashish
integrate best features of ff to fb, then try to innovate in fb if possible, then kill ff... that's it, cheers, all the best. grrrr... - Kemal
niczak has good points. FF & FB aren't exactly competitors, but they aren't orthogonal either. Let's hope FB's smart enough to see the difference and improve both platforms. - Don Faulkner from IM
Nicholas: The upside for Facebook is they just bought an engineering team that's built many of the feature's Facebook's going to need to stay competitive. The upside for FriendFeed's engineering team is $$$ and the ability to build system for a wider audience. FriendFeed's user base is small enough that it'll either get absorbed into Facebook or move on, and FF will become a footnote on the Internet timeline. - Ken Sheppardson
Don, I don't think FB wants to maintain two platforms. - Rutger Blom
first tr.im (heard about it yesterday), now this. I wasn't a heavy tr.im user (yet), but sad to see it go, even if I think url shortening is silly. - Don Faulkner from IM

Flavio, that's not very realistic I'm afraid, but I like the idea. - Rutger Blom
rutgerblom, I don't expect they do either, thus my angst over this. - Don Faulkner from IM
if there's a team willing to do it and money, and if we accept some ads as everywhere else, we could make a new FF without FB - Flavio
I have worked hard in avoiding signing up for FB. Does this mean I now automatically will be on FB by virtue of my FF account? - Tony Vota from iPhone
Tony, most likely - Rutger Blom
I'll have to go with Flavio's position too. Given this news (plus tr.im and who knows who's next), I'd tend to favor community supported or federated services for things like this in the future. - Don Faulkner from IM
I am purposely not on facebook because I don't really want to talk to people I have not talked to in 20 years. - Andy Bakun

trouble is (from my perspective), that the philosophies of the two platforms are at odds. FB wants to bring people to the site and keep them there, while FF is a hub, bringing people in and then sending them back out. (That's part of why it's hard for the newcomer to understand, IMHO.) - Don Faulkner from IM

Congratulations. I'm sorry to say that I don't plan to move with you. - Lars Juhl Jensen

Facebook is lucky to have such a talented group of people ... Congratulations FriendFeed! - Rob Kurrus
doesn't look like a bad joke, better be for the good then, but... Well congrats anyway guys, you did something AWESOME now let's see where Mark takes it - Dobromir Hadzhiev
That's too bad. Liked the openness if FriendFeed, and the lack crap that is on Facebook. Once FriendFeed dies, it will be Twitter only. - Mike D.
Congrats, but concerned that FriendFeed and its tools may disappear. Merging the tools with Facebook seems impossible. - Mike Reynolds
Congrats guys (and gals) ! - Benjy Weinberger
So, what does the acquisition of FriendFeed by Facebook mean to us, users of both websites: Can I make a friend request from FriendFeed, and be approved for both, on one click - Reyna Carlos
Exciting news guys. I am actually looking forward to your collaboration with / work for FB. No matter what people may or may not like about FB, it does succeed in reaching a more "diverse" audience compared to most other Web 2.0/social web companies. Paired with your team's excellence in realizing features that succeed in pleasing the geekiest of Web 2.0 affine individuals, I think you are steering towards exciting waters :) - Mustafa K. Isik
*heart sinks* actually a bit of shock - I think that Facebook will leave Friendfeed as-is but I don't think there is hope for future innovation in Friendfeed since their best superstar team members will be pulled onto 'more important' Facebook issues... - Pon
And the metastasizing, walled-garden that is Facebook, continues to eat the Web. Bring on Google Wave. - Christopher A Carr
:-) + :-( very happy for the team, huge achievement, hoping to see export of innovation but not a shut down of this unique community and location - Majento
There goes FriendFeed down the toilet. well I WAS having a good day. until hearing this crap! - Scratch5150
Congratulations, and best wishes for your future together! :-) - Ruchira S. Datta
Wow, I was beginning to use Friendfeed as my defacto social site...Facebook is more for real life friends. They'll just take what makes Friendfeed great, add it to Facebook and slowly kill this site. - Manuel Mas
What is the big deal? I think it'll make FF bigger and better. You should be happy about that! - orionstarr
Somebody has to got pay for it. - orionstarr
I am disappointed. I don't want to have to go to Facebook to do what i do here. I can not imagine they will port over all the features we enjoy here. We lose a lot for only a slight benefit to Facebook. - Robert
It could be worse, myspace could've bought them lol... - orionstarr
Awful news for users but congratulations to you guys. Ideally, FB will run FF as a distinct service but I'm not hopeful. I don't want the diversity and noise that facebook brings - people doing quizzes on which movie star they resemble and playing silly games. I also wanted to keep my day to day social activity distinct from the targeted information and discussion I use FF for. - Rajit
Only just started taking a serious look at FF after hearing acquisition by FB. Sounds like I'm laggard rather than a leader in use of web 2.0 - ManojRanaweera
I think how Pon said it is what I'm feeling: *heart sinks*. - Andy Bakun
Congratulations, i am really happy for you guys!! :) - Mona Nomura
I'm not a Facebook fan, but can't begrudge the FF gang their chance to reap the rewards for all their hard work. However, it would be a shame if FB ruins the good thing we all have going here. - Ken Morley
So what now? a name change too? FriendFace? FeedBook? FaceFeed? god Facebook really sucks. oh well. Adds anyone? - Scratch5150
Congrats to the FF team... I hope the service doesn't disappear into a fold of light and heat. - Brandon
if all the things that make FF great are brought to FB then I'll be happy to use it - Mike Chelen
The community won't be there. Been on FB longer than any other, don't have nearly the relationship or sense of community there that I do here or on Twitter. - Karoli
Karoli: that is due to the effectiveness of the FF platform and interface, which help to join conversations and find interesting people more so than FB does - Mike Chelen
Mike: I suspect that FB wants FF for the search possibilities, not the community-building aspects. But we'll see. - Karoli
i guess congrats are in order, but I'm going to now go and remove everything I have that feeds into FF, and I have to ask -- do I have any rights over my archive? I have a private feed, and I have no interest in offering up my lifestream to the FaceBook data-miners. I hope the FF folks get what they hope for out of the deal, but my FriendFeed experience has been effectively killed. - RudĩϐЯaЯïan
I just learned about the FF acquisition by Facebook - WOW~! Congratulations Bret, Paul and FF team!! holy cow ........Mooooooooo! Where's the FF Acquisition Party? :) - Susan Beebe

Congratulations to the FriendFeed guys on the Facebook Acquisition. Not a big fan of Facebook, so I hope my favorite Uber Aggregator, Realtime Social, Microblogging site of awesomeness is not entirely absorbed into the Facebook infrastructure. I wait with baited breath to hear what "normally for the time being" means ;). - Tom Horn
Can I now have comments propagate in both directions as far as Facebook/Friendfeed is concerned? - Piaw Na
*checks date*. Damn .. not April 1st, must be for real. While I'm happy for the FF team, since I guess this is what they wanted (congrats guys!), I can't help but think this is the beginning of the end for a great service and a vibrant community. There are reasons I don't spend any time on Facebook and do spend lots of time on FF, and some kind of "FF integrated into Facebook" just won't cut it. I hope this service will live on for at least a few more years. - Andrew Perry
Gratz to the FF team but as a user I'm not completely happy. In short, I like the FF team/product much more than I like the FB team/product. Best of luck to all. - timepilot
Dang! I've killed another site! Sorry guys... FF was doing fine until I started coming here again! Same with Pownce! Went there and liked it... went underground for a spell... came back and still liked it, so I stayed. A few months later... BOOM! I have the touch! (I'm thinking I'll start devoting a lot of time to Twitter... maybe I can kill that one, too!) - Mark "DerBingle" J
Все, блядь, пиздец! - ǝuǝƃnǝ
WOW - very happy for all of you :-) - Kishore Balakrishnan
Bret, congrats on the acquisition. You guys put in a lot of hard work to create this community. I just hope you learned the mistakes Pownce made, Jaiku etc, and ensured that you didn't sell out your community, but that you helped it evolve into something as great as this into something better. Good luck in future endeavors! - Mike Lewis
Oh yeah? Ok: take tour money and go to the hell. :-((( - Claude LaFrenière
Yay for you guys, I mean that seriously, I 'like' what this means for you personally, but -1000000 cool points for doing it with FB. Sad day. - Threepwood
Karoli: FF search is so useful because it is integrated with all the other great features that help to find relevant content. if FB wants to have a similar capability, they must also develop the underlying architecture. - Mike Chelen from IM

Money is the root of all evil - Shakeel Mahate
shakeel, the reasons for friendfeed to join facebook are probably about other things besides money, since many of the FF staff left high-paying jobs to join in the first place - Mike Chelen from IM
Well I've thought about it, and I'll stick around until I start seeing that crappy Facebook logo, I only have 71 subscribers here, I hate to do it but I'll probably scrap the whole thing and start over somewhere else. still can't believe that shit. - Scratch5150
Congrats, team! It's bittersweet, though. - Anne Bouey
So now we will have FriendFeed blocked at work too. Darn. - Mark Scrimshire
"Your data will not go away any time in the near term future" is not exactly inspiring for the long term for those of us who came here to escape Facebook for a) it's walled garden and b) privacy concerns. Nice for the Founders to make a pile of cash but for the many of us, it feels like we got sold down the river. Sad. - Sally Church
This is tragic. Tragic. Tragic. - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
cacarr: updates for FB have progressed rapidly in the past, count how many months since new features such as api calls and site redesigns have have been implemented - Mike Chelen from IM
I can't believe it either. I feel as if — for the moment — I am lost in the wilderness, adrift. - roamin
Congratulation to the FF team! You guys deserves this. I just hope that Facebook does not change the directions of FF. - Vinko
congrats, I'm happy for friendfeed... - amelia arapoff
Congrats you guys, well deserved. - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Congrats Bret! Hope the transition goes smoothly for you guys. - Cristo

I use FriendFeed and Facebook so it would be awesome to see FF features in Facebook. Congratulations! - krzychukula from IM
judging by the nearly 600 comments as i type this, including my own earlier one, FF could use a Don't Like button as well. or would, if we were going to be using it much longer. - kelly
Nice, i like to wish you all the best for your new job (and it's really hard, i know). I'm happy, but... don't let die FF!! - Seo (ignobile) Guru
Hope FriendFeed remains open. Love the spirit of FF - Bernaldo Barrena

I don't think FB acquiring FF is bad. But I don't think it's good either. We'll see. :-) In the meantime, keep up the good work! - Alexander Gieg
Oh shit. Love FF, hate FB. I'll NEVER, EVER merge my two accounts. I'd rather unsub from both than merging. I'll wait for the developments, and in the meantime look for an alternative. - Alliandre (la Ippe)
How long until ex-FriendFeed employees start jumping ship from Facebook? I wonder... - Tyson Key
Thomas Power still believes that Facebook/FF/Linkedin (2010) will be acquired by Apple (2011) and this is a transitional acquisition in the SN market cycle. The world is shifting to Mac, iTunes, iPhones and FB own the next generation. Apple have $29bn of cash on deposit price is not an issue. Google must jump for twitter while MS fiddle in the sticks with Yahoo. BillG will be back at the MS helm 2012. - Penny Power
:( Happy for FF people, sad for the service. Was going to move from fb to ff this week.. - Martynas
congrats! - Ronald
thts good!so i can workin both in my Fb online next - Arini dewi muchtaram
Flavio: never heard of lifestream.fm before, but I'm going to go check it out. I'll reiterate, though, that I'm now shy of any service like this, since it can disappear just as it's getting good. I heard about sweetcron.com last night (via http://ff.im/6pR2w). Maybe it's time to move from centralized to distributed again. - Don Faulkner
Just finished setting up my lifestream.fm at http://lifestream.fm/dfaulkner. Lifestream does what it says, and no more. FF's search blows lifestream away. FF is more flexible about adding source feeds, but lifestream does fine without the flexibility I suppose. FF still wins, or would, if I thought it would be sticking around. :P - Don Faulkner

I also hate facebook, not because of their silly quizzes and pokes, but because I suspect they would like to maintain massive user base as the determining factor in choosing a social network. I would love to switch to orkut as I use so many other google services, but I can't because nobody else does. That should not be my criteria.... I thought friendfeed would try to make social networks work together. - Ru Viljoen
I don't understand why everyone is so negative about the situation? - orionstarr
@orionstarr - it's like Starbucks buying your neighborhood coffee shop and saying it still cares about the customers. You know it's just not going to be the same as what you've come to love. - Robin Barooah

Paul, will you respond to this? This is *bad* for FF users. Best case: it continues on, but distracted by Facebook and with stagnated feature development. Worst case: it's gone. Middle of the road: Facebook forces its ads into the timeline and friendfeed starts acting like Facebook by ignoring its users. - tollie williams
@tollie, I imagine Paul's ability to respond is now constrained, which is just one of the changes we'll see coming. There's new management in town, folks. - Ken Kennedy

Can I get some props for the title of my first TC post now?
You Will Be Using FriendFeed In The Future — But It May Be Called Facebook - MG Siegler from Bookmarklet
"But I think it’s FriendFeed that Facebook should be more closely following, given what it wants to do with its service. That’s especially true when even more information starts coming into the site by way of Facebook Connect. Twitter has exploded in popularity because it’s so simple — but it’s far too simple for everything that Facebook want to do. But FriendFeed seems to be morphing into exactly what Facebook wants to be." - MG Siegler

Official Google Reader Blog: PubSubHubbub support for Reader shared items
NOOOOOOO WAY!!! TOO COOL!!! And finally! - Jorge Escobar
Now if they can just fix the speed issues of Google Reader's web client itself - Jesse Stay
I shared this very item from Reader about 4 minutes ago. It has not shown up. - DGentry
Weird, isn't working for me either... - Jorge Escobar
Jorge: Your FriendFeed profile is configed to take in FF links through the feedbuster thingy, so you won't get this behavior. If you use FF's built-in handling of Google Reader shared items, it'll work. - Brett Slatkin
And so Brett saved the day. ;) - Jorge Escobar
BUT -- will the images show? No. Argh. Middle ground. - Jorge Escobar
You'll have to follow up with the FF guys when it comes to images. Sounds like a feature request! - Brett Slatkin from email
Or the Google Reader guys. If Google Reader just produced their Feeds in MediaRSS format the feeds would be automatically imported into FF with images. - Jesse Stay
the switch looks off to me. - Caio
I got this working with Google Reader but it was not all that easy to find the URL for sharing. Even with the hint from FF, I had to poke around in Google Reader to locate the right address. Maybe a small usability point here but it could make a difference in use of this with Google Reader. - Hans Eisenman
+1000 Jesse - YES, MediaRSS format would be the way to go. - Susan Beebe
This is the beginning of something really good. - sean808080
@Jorge - Whoops, sorry 'bout that. I'm working on getting feed-buster to play nice with PSHB :). - Ivan Zuzak
@Brett - I'm actually working on porting feedbuster to PSHB using superfeedr and some of the open-source code from the reference hub implementation. I've exchanged a few e-mail with Julien (from Superfeedr) about the larger issue behind this - RSS/ATOM/PSHB architecture does not support end-user defined insertion of feed processing services (e.g. feed-buster) into the flow of delivering... more... - Ivan Zuzak
Hey Ivan! That sounds like a great topic to research. Would love to have a wiki page devoted to this concept. The idea of composition and filtering works like this: 1) Feedbuster provides a virtual feed which advertises itself as a Hub, 2) User adds the "busted" URL to FriendFeed, 3) FriendFeed requests a subscription for the feed from Feedbuster, 4) feedbuster pulls the original feed,... more... - Brett Slatkin
Another solution is to enable callbacks in the filters themselves, like we saw yesterday with webhooks. Say you have a filter at http://myfilter.com/subscri.... and you want to receive notifications on http://final_client.com. You would then provide the following url to the hub : http://myfilter.com/subscri... The filter would then have to 1: redirect... more... - Julien
@Brett - thanks! I'm glad you think there's something *there*. I'm definitely up for writing a wiki for the concept. :) Also, what you outlined is actually exactly what my idea is for the new feed-buster prototype and what I'm in the process of implementing. Though, what I was trying to stress is - doesn't it seem like a lot of overhead for a conceptually simple thing? Developing a... more... - Ivan Zuzak
I think it would be a reasonable extension to the protocol, but one of our goals here is to keep the core protocol as simple as possible. I'm working on a way to formalize these protocol extensions and keep a catalog of them, as well as discovery. - Brett Slatkin
@Julien - that's a cool idea - hooks-within-hooks. So, in case of FriendFeed and feedbuster, what would be the callback (http://final_client.com/) where the notifications would be sent? Is it the Friendfeed URL for receiving PSHB notifications? - Ivan Zuzak
Hum, that is not very clear to me what you're trying to do. Do you want to post some content to friendfeed through feedbuster? - Julien
@Julien - I'm sorry, let me clarify. Let's say a FF user wants to use feed-buster as a filter in the way you described - she wants to import a feedbuster-processed feed into FriendFeed with pshb support. In order to import a feed, FF asks the user to enter the feed URL, and my question was - what would that full URL be? - Ivan Zuzak
hum... it should be something like http://feedbuster.com/... In this case you wouldn't need the callback, because you can't "control" FF's abililty to receive pings. However, if you add the <atom rel="hub"> link at the top of this generated feed, FF should take that into account and fetch the content right after they receive a notification. (please let's continue this chat somewhere else, since I always forget to come here;)) - Julien
the name itself, PubSubHubbub, triggered my interest. I kind of understood it was about pulling not pushing (or vice-versa) but stayed pretty much at the doorstep. I'm eager to learn more about it though. - lelapin
@Julien - agreed. Let's continue this off FF. - Ivan Zuzak
