I recently broke out my old vinyl and I've been buying more lately - its a great compliment to the convenient (but not so sweet sounding) mp3s. - Devin Poolman
This is an interesting opportunity for an aspiring startup to create an on-demand version of TiVo - assuming this could apply to a non-cable company provided box or computer, couldn't you archive and stream an unlimited number or recordings? Who needs Slingbox or TiVo if a service can record everything for you? - Devin Poolman
why did you do this to me? Dang I've seen some whoppers at parties I wish i could add to this site. Ha! - John Hell
There's a great shot of Katy Bell NOT swallowing champagne on like page 10 or something. It's from the Laughing Squid 13 party. Ha! The caption is priceless. As is Katy Bell. - John Hell
So many great stories and tidbits in this article - Fuller championed, and for many years adhered to, a dietary regimen that consisted exclusively of prunes, tea, steak, and Jell-O. - Devin Poolman
Actual Quote: "Ms. Mayer slips on a pair of Maison Martin Margiela flats: "They are just the coolest shoes."
She organizes her closet by color and type of apparel. "I have one area that's wintry, one that's spring," she says. "Then I have hanging tops, blouses, skirts, pants and suits. And I organize by color, so it's like little mini rainbows all over my closet. That way, if I need to grab a sweater and it needs to be more plain than funky, I know exactly where to find it." - Christian
Is this her personal publicist at work, or is Google trying that hard to put a friendly face on the company? What they really need an ass-kicking, Jiu-Jitsu fighting spokesperson - know any of those? - Devin Poolman
LOL. I have no idea. My jiu jitsu is reserved exclusively for late night attacks on my friends. Probably says more about the future of the WSJ than Google's PR team. - Christian
"Don't assume from this article that Google is really losing money on each transaction - for a small vendor the fees would break down as follows: Visa and Mastercard would charge $.10 + 2%, your bank would charge $.10, and the payment gateway would charge another $.10. That being said, most large vendors are able to negotiate the bank and payment gateway fees down substantially (although Visa/MC always gets their fees). Google would be such a large processor that they probably wouldn't be working with a gateway, and would transact directly with a bank - so that gets rid of that $.10 fee. In addition, they are probably paying less per transaction to the banks as well. In the end, I would guess they are paying about $.18 + 2% per transaction." - Devin Poolman
