Dear FriendFeeders, I'm looking for CS-related lectures and tech talks that I can listen to and watch on an iPod during my commute. Any pointers?
Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/user..., but available for the ipod - DeWitt Clinton
Someday. - DeWitt Clinton
Right. Something to stimulate the brain. But usable on the ipod so I can watch it while underground and whatnot... - DeWitt Clinton
Hmm, the MIT OpenCourseWare looks promising. For example: http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb.... I wonder if they have any graduate-level courses. (Edit: Yes, there are. Plenty.) - DeWitt Clinton
iTunes has tons of free university-level courses available - Glen Campbell, B.A.
And ... here we go. iTunes U. http://deimos3.apple.com/indigo.... Specifically, the MIT lectures at http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObje.... The ones on iTunes are mostly introductory courses, but I never studied any electrical or mechanical engineering, so there's still plenty to learn from. - DeWitt Clinton
Would be nice if the iPod touch could read PDFs, then I could browse the lecture notes at the same time... - DeWitt Clinton
I hadn't looked at the MIT site in years, but there is a truly staggering amount of material there. This is the perfect opportunity for a partnership with Amazon and the Kindle. - DeWitt Clinton
Kaushik - nice. I notice that those leave off at today's date. I take that to mean that this course is being taught as we speak? [Edit, the "Fall 2008" at the top of the page was also a dead giveaway.] - DeWitt Clinton
Yes, I guess you're right. I had the parent page bookmarked, and didn't notice the dates. - Kaushik
You can try also the classic SICP. You would have to convert the files iPod video but there's ton of software to do it. http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac... - Michal Cierniak
Michal - nice. Downloading the first few lectures now. That's a great text. - DeWitt Clinton
Bought the Air Sharing app for the touch to read notes along with the lectures. We'll see how that goes. - DeWitt Clinton
The MIT stuff is great, but have a look at the UK Open Uni stuff, too http://openlearn.open.ac.uk/. Unlike the MIT courses, this is specifically designed for distance education, which can be useful in some circumstances (although if you just want lectures it may not matter). Also http://www.oercommons.org/ has a good directory. - Nick Lothian
