J'en suis convaincu :-). Et dans ce cadre, GWT sera la pierre angulaire des applications complexes pour telephones mobiles. Je pense que c'est par la que GWT doit progresser le plus rapidement. Pour information, j'ai une application Android qui marche tres bien (20000 telechargements, uniquement accessible sur le market francais). Je suis en train de faire le portage pour iPhone et je le fais via GWT. C'est un plaisir...

C'est une bonne chose :-). Comment sera-t-il possible de suivre l'evolution du travail ? Comment sera-t-il possible de collaborer a ce travail ? -> Nous sommes en train de demarrer un mini projet, Modding (MObile DDevelopment IN Gwt), ou nous allons deposer les composants qui nous semble utile pour faire un developpement pour mobile. Post gzip + advdef. Not as much benefit on small scripts like the crx and xpi, but serious savings on the bigger website. I need to figure out why there are 50+ functions that end up looking like this: function npc(a,b){a.b=b;return a}.

It's because of the inliner. Both MethodInliner and JsInliner do not permit a parameter to be referenced more than once. Since 'a' is referenced twice, they fail to inline. Pretty much every builder-pattern setter function will end up post-obfuscation as function XXX(a,b) { a.b = b; return a; }

Nice. That should eliminate a pretty big chunk of the repeating code. I just realized that one of our generators is responsible for spamming dozens of return null, return true and return false calls. I should be able to remove some of this extra cruft with a simple change.

You can knock another 6% off by inlining polymorphic vtable setup at the cost of losing stack trace info. Another 1% is possible using LZDIST for a sorting metric, and probably a few more percent by either replacing JS constructors with a utility function, or replacing duplicate static method bodies with references to the original function.

Should be. Google's mobile maps app for Palm (and iPhone) is built using GWT. Though I don't know how much of the Mojo framework they used. Probably not much, given that it runs on the iPhone as well.

In most OECD "rich" countries, birthrates are below the replacement rate of 2.1 per couple. If all countries followed this path, the earth would be saved, because in a few generations, human civilization would be gone. I'd like the earth to be saved, because it's a home for humanity, with human civilization gone, that justification somewhat disappears and the argument is to save it, even if no sentient intelligent life is left to observe it. :)

But a little below replacement rate doesn't seem like a terribly bad thing right now. I'm pretty sure that if the population dropped a bit for a few generations, we would naturally settle at a more stable global population (and fertility rates would rise back to or above replacement), probably oscillating a bit. ~6 billion seems like a hell of a lot of people to me...

I had a VoIP call going with a party local to me and two across the country and I lost the two across the country, but maintained the local party. Arleen, 10,000 keyword phrases times 20 is a tiny fraction of the search terms that are worth optimizing for. Think of the long tail. Also, consider lots of webmasters and even publishers / site owners / bloggers / Web developers ... SEO experts who are able to optimize their stuff quite successfully but don't sell or publish their expertise. Many of them, and even many SEO consultants, do make sensible use of social media, as plain users.

Gord, in a social media spammer's book 2 hours of outage, IOW 2 hours w/o sales from sneakily distributed links to questionable sales pitches, can sum up to way more than a good day's beer money. ;) However, "crisis" might be a term too strong for this potential loss.

Je pense que c'est dommage d'abandonner l'architecture cloud computing. Si l'application a maintenant uniquement pour but de dorer un CV, je pense que c'est le sujet qu'il faut continuer de creuser. Pour le reste, le plus dur dans un projet est d'attirer des personnes qui vont donner de leur temps pour le faire progresser. Il faut donc toujours chercher a repondre a la question : "Pourquoi des personnes depenseraient-elles du temps pour m'aider ?".

Je n'abandonne pas le cloud computing définitivement. je dis juste que choisir l'appEngine fut une erreur stratégique. Si l'appli marche, j'irai chez Amazone :-P... Plus sérieusement, J'ai ressenti que l'appEngine Java est actuellement ce qu'étais GWT a ses début. Un environnement difficile à manipuler avec beaucoup de travail manuel. Il s'agit peut être d'une erreur de jeunesse qui sera corrigée dans des versions futures du SDK. Je l'espère car c'est à contre coeur que je l'abandonne.

Je crois qu'il s'agit d'un stack overflow. Les antivirus n'y peuvent pas grand chose. Ca me rappelle le temps, ou il etait possible de passer du code machine dans une URL pour prendre le controle d'un navigateur :-)

I would very much like that. It's a bit harder to do it "properly" in the GWT context, because Scala compiles to bytecode -- but the constructs it generates would likely not map very well back to Javascript without significant work. Whereas Scala source would cross-compile very cleanly to Javascript (e.g., lambdas, pattern matching, and the like).
