It's amazing how useful that is in practice. I've had entire sub conversations where we start typing, see an initial response, then both delete the line and start over with some issue already resolved. It really is like chat in email.

Notice how "credit card number" is selected, yet it's still prompting me for a SkyMiles number. I think this fairly well demonstrates how badly things go wrong when you use HTML templates and just "include a bunch of common scripts" that you might need on any page. God, what a mess.

And to make matters worse, probably 99+% of it isn't even used for anything on the page. I've seen so many apps like this, where template monkeys just started throwing random javascript into template headers, with no idea whether or where each script is needed. Then they have no decent tools to analyze it, so it just keeps growing, because everyone's afraid to pull anything out.

Bad marketers on FriendFeed will survive in search results. Do a search for a couple of terms like 'canon 135mm' and you'll see plenty of entries that are just links to people selling the lens. You're not going to block them all. I don't see that as a big problem, but I suspect they'll be successful enough there to keep them coming.

If I were Guy, or the head of any company, be it a camera shop or whatever, whenever I had a little free time, I'd tweet out, "Hey, I'm going to be on FriendFeed for an hour or so, answering any questions about Alltop, telling you about its features, advantages, and benefits, come join in!" or something like that. That's a vertical that feeds off Twitter and really enriches both platforms, utilizing them both for their strengths.

That being said change is always happening and even still I'm not sure Friendfeed will hit the critical mass Twitter has with marketers. The friendfeed brand will likely be defined differently than Twitter and attract different people. Time will tell.

The marketers are already here, but most of them are totally clueless about how friendfeed works. They somehow think they can dump their stuff here and it will get "found" and when that doesn't work, they just go back to twitter. The ones that do understand how it works either feel it is too much damn work to fake being real to be worth it, or they are the real deal and it works quite well for them.

Interesting: IE6 lets you submit a form to an iframe that's outside your security domain. IE7 doesn't unfortunately. If this worked, it would be a perfect way to emulate postMessage.

Just got my Clear wimax service set up at home, and it works like a champ (6M down, 0.5M up, and I get a USB dongle I can use with my laptop all over town). No more at&t, no more bellsouth, no more comcast, nada. The only wire connected to my house is power. I don't know why this makes me happy, but it does.

Michael, LOL. But this can't be new finding, can it? I've read about this conclusion so long ago I can't remember who said it first. David Allen's GTD tackles the multi-tasking weakness and the book is several years old. We are so bombarded with information/gadgets/tools etc. that we are actually slowed down because of them.

You might think that heavy multitaskers would be more effective at it, but they found that the opposite was actually true.

there's a virus or something like that which places an iframe in your page. just change your ftp password, scan your machine for virusses, and find the code in the pages and then google will let you in again

They used some sort of admin hack. We changed a whole bunch of stuff and now the hack has stopped (we deleted the admin account and did a bunch of other stuff). I'm not sure how it happened, but we're getting smarter about setting up Wordpress, that's for sure!

Use XENU to find all the links and kill them, makes life easier to find all the places the embedded code ended up. Worked for me when this happened to me last year.

In a separate thread, Robert admitted his blog was running WordPress 2.7.x, which was vulnerable to an exploit detailed here: http://wordpress.org/develop... -- and then once in, hackers can inject spam only visible to robots. If you have a WordPress blog, please update to the latest version -- 2.8.4 -- to prevent hackers from doing the same thing to your blog that they did to Robert's.

Robert, if you need some WP help from experts, check out the wordpress.org forums and/or wptavern.com. That's where us WordPress nerds hang out. We can give security tips, maybe specific to your host. We also have several people who are skilled at post-hack analysis, to determine how they got in and prevent it from happening in the future.

Curiously, the exact same thing happened to my blog (Twittercism.com), pretty much around the same time it happened to Robert, on both occasions. And like him, I was hacked the second time after the upgrade to 2.8.4. And it was invisible text in the footer. It was fairly easy to remove, but still, an irritant. Wow! Scoble's Wordpress blog got hacked (click through for the details) & the hacker's secret changes got him thrown out of the Google Index for a while. Make sure you: 1) Always back up your Wordpress blog. 2) Update to 2.8.x, as 2.7 had the vulnerabilities that were exploited in Scoble's case. 3) Check your install for exploits (there are plugins for this), as well as your Google indexing once a week or so.

A multi-platform OS is the only thing in my mind that could top Wave. Can't wait to find out for sure though what this will be!

I bet it's the Gdrive after I've just paid for an extra 10GB storage on Google. Would be cool to be able to access all my files from any google app, so I could add a picture from picassa webalbum or embed a video of mine/ favourited without having to go to the other site and copy a URL. This would set it up nicely for google OS

That's a really interesting idea, Gabe. It seems to go a bit against the drive that Google Apps will reduce the need for IT departments though, so I doubt it.

Google has created an OFF button for the internet and will demonstrate their magic later this year. After that, Google will solidify the world under one government known as the Google Wave Party. Then, SkyNet will be born and we will all be shocked and amazed when Google Androids storm through our neighborhoods, killing us all.
