The Kim family traditional home-made angelfood cake with home-made chocolate icing. Candle-counting will be confusing, since I'm sharing the cake with my niece.

Thanks for all the <3 everyone! LOL Ayse & Josh. Definitely feeling exceedingly blessed today & all thru this holiday visit back home with so many loving friends and a great (& goofy) family. <3 and all the best to everyone for a happy, safe & prosperous 2010!!!

I had a cat flap. Not nice looking but I slept great!
- Dave Friedel
from Android
We had one of those springy doorstops on our bedroom door. Our cat Max would let us know he wanted in by sproinging it in the middle of...the night.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
m9m: Oh god, that'd be worse than the scratching!
- Amy
Why not get a flap but put it near the ceiling and make the cat go through an obstacle course to get through. Make the fluffy bugger work for its freedom...
- Thomas
That or install a vacuum tube system for the cat...
- Thomas
No, no, the main aim is not freedom - it's to get in my room so he can sit on me while I (attempt to) sleep, or poke me in the face every half an hour, or wait on me going to sleep before attempting to pull my vase off the top shelf etc.
- Amy
Guys, does http://thenextweb.com/uk/ load for you? Whether it does or doesn't, can you let me know what device or browser you're using? (update: thank you SO much for all your help)
I looked at at least two pages of every user who posted. I just started learning, so I bookmarked about 20 pages that I'll be coming back to. This was nice, thanks!
- Ryan Massie
I didnt really want to add everyone i know on friendfeed to my facebook, i like to keep them seperate as much as i can. but you know what, fuck it http://www.facebook.com/simon... add a note saying you;re from friendfeed if you add me, then i can group everyone up :)
- Simon Wicks
Thanks, Simon. I've not started going through these yet. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I'm only going to add the people i actually talk to on here. I have a lot less people on my follow list than you, so its a bit easier for me :)
- Simon Wicks
Remember, guys. According to FB, you're only allowed 5000 friends. Spend them wisely.
- James Myatt
As if we weren't before? Were they really that many people here who didn't also have a FB account, even if they didn't list it in their profile? I've been with FB since 2004
- LANjackal
Well, with this news it is pushing me to start using my real name for web services and to kill (or at least slowly stop using) the tomit persona that I have used for many years. Find me here... http://www.facebook.com/ronaldb...
- tomit
FF better figure out how not to destroy themselves (if possible) with this merger. Friendfeed in the FB interface will not work. I think FF really just f*cked themselves.
- Ethan
I'm on Facebook, but I don't have a name in my profile URL (yet; I'm still new...). But if you want it, it's http://www.facebook.com/profile... -- if you friend me, tell me you're from FF.
- Dennis Jernberg
I don't freaking have one because I never wanted to sign up for Facebook. :P Now I find out that through no fault of my own I'm technically a Facebook user? GAH.
- Cheryl Jones
http://facebook.com/alex.covic - I will friend everybody - for those of you concerned with friend/family + privacy = you can create lists (just like ff-groups) to keep FF-users in a different corner;-).
- Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
I do not use it much LOL I just post to it from other sites so to fill up my friends stream, I do get messages and some status in text. Anyone who really wants to add me, use the facebook link on my profile. :o)
- David Gross
www.facebook.com/drodzand you won't see much since I got the privacy settings on max in Facebook. Just another reason why I think Facebook is completely different from friendfeed. I hope they keep friendfeed running because I use both services in diametrically diverse ways.
- David Rodriguez
http://www.facebook.com/kimbers... (I can remember if I commented on this already. I don't see "You" on the list, but I'm tired. So, hopefully, I didn't. If I did, oh well.

Thanks Rob, I had forgotten my username for I always used my email address to login - I found there is a settings > username > change thing that lets you change your username once and then you get a facebook.com/username url!
- TrafficBug
I am thinking about just using my Public Page more. Keep my regular profile for family and coworker data. Follow me here if you want more of the type of posts I do here of Friendfeed. http://www.facebook.com/pages...

:( What a loss for you; I'm so sorry.
- Anne Bouey
Thanks for the warm thoughts, everyone. I found out she passed away at the vet's office early this morning. I knew she was close to the end, but I was hoping she'd at least be able to come home and pass away comfortably there. ;( I've been sobbing on and off all morning. She was a spoiled little diva, and I know she lived better than most people. It's just the thought of life without her that is the hardest part right now.
- rowlikeagirl
I'm so sorry. I really am. I know how it feels. :( She really was a beautiful cat.
- Jen (SquirrelGirl)
She was fortunate to have had a friend in you. I'm sorry.
- Christopher Harley
I'm so sorry! I know how it feels - I few years ago my siamese cat died just short of 19 yrs old and it was really hard to deal with. Take care!
- Katy S
I know how hard it is to lose a pet. When I go to the house to see my daughter, I still look for my Griffey's big furry ears and excited eyes watching out from the corner of the window overlooking the driveway. He still visits me in my dreams, and we go for long walks in the woods. They leave us with good memories to help us through the loss.
- Mark "Mr Bolivious" J
Thank you again for the kind words, everyone. They mean so much. I know she had a great life. She gave me such joy. I cannot express it in words. If you have a pet, please hug him/her for me. XXOXOXOXOOXOXO

Anyone who wants to know how hard of an edge the new DOCTOR WHO might have needs to see this mini. Steven Moffat, the soon-to-be producer of WHO, did this as well.
- Steven Perez
Moffat could have done some very interesting things with Eccleston's Doctor, I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with the new ones. Even if I am a bit nervous about the kid.

Jane!! Oops, I guess Coupling isn't really scary, huh? This is on Netflix Instant Watch? *adds*
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I'd like to see James Nesbitt as The Doctor. Jandy, is Coupling any good? I've never seen it.
- Joe Pierce
COUPLING is not bad. I catch it whenever it's on BBC America.
- Steven Perez
from IM
I love Coupling. It was originally meant as kind of the British version of Friends, so there are six friends with varying levels of relationships, but the dialogue and situations are WAY raunchier than anything American (basic network) TV could take. And with that edge of Britishness that makes it even better.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
you know how most people rave about joss and say he's the second coming? (my opinon? joss is good but also makes so-so stuff too) i feel that way about the moff. press gang, coupling, jekyll, some of the best who episodes and NOW he's taking over the show.

1.44 (566/391) for brianjohns (after week tally you should see a comma then 'all time' count - I can see it on your page)
- Micah Wittman
OK, sorry. I'm a total dumbass. I stopped reading after the weekly totals...
- Brian Johns
3.74, which seems way off of everybody else's. I wonder what that says. I comment a lot more than I like.
- Cyrus Lendvay
FFers use FF with their own strategy or simply default tendencies. The ratio is an interesting snapshot of behaviour. Thanks for joining in everyone, hope more keep flowing in.

0.66 - I tend to 'like' things without needing to comment further, I guess, and I notice I usually like the things upon which I comment. Well, frequently.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
.39 (2457/6242) I guess I don't comment much. I do 'like' a lot of things, it would seem.
- Bren -- Making Contact
0.62 then again i have over 11,000 comments
- Cee Bee
1.23 (5287/4229) - I am put to shame by Cee Bee's participation, good grief!
- Lindsay is in 20-ten
So far: Average: 1.27 | Median: 0.81 ... (if you average 1 comment per like, you'd be 1.0 ... if you're 0.xx you might herd content more than discuss ... if you're whole numbers above 1 you may not 'like' much or discuss plenty or both)
- Micah Wittman
InPerpetualMotion(Gina k), I really liked this 'Like' of yours (in a series of pics, so I flickr fav'd it): http://friendfeed.com/e... and commented. Thanks!
- Micah Wittman
.68 6986/10194 Someone wrote a great article on the comment-like ratio a few months ago. Search on FriendFeed is crashing on me... I'll try to get the link.
- Mitchell Tsai
Thanks Mitchell (btw, search crashing on me too - lots)
- Micah Wittman
1316 comments/20221 likes (0.06), according to Windows Calculator, although I probably screwed up.
- Tyson Key
A recent change in FF: now the comment count shows total number of comments (previously multiple comments in one thread only counted as one) http://friendfeed.com/e... so all the numbers above are from the old methodology....
- David HC Soul
My new ratio: 0.76 all time (old methodology .52).... this week 1.39
- David HC Soul
Looks like my ratio as flipped again (comments back to dominating again). Seems to match my own awareness I've lately been commenting without Liking (commenting is my inherent recognition of value to me and the additional Like is when it merits an extra bump to help discovery by others).
- Micah Wittman
Darn - 0.52. I guess I need to say why I like something a little more often :-) Liking this thread because I was wondering the same thing recently. Has anybody worked out the average from the numbers here? </islazy>
- Andy Bold
Andy, scroll upward and you'll see a couple calculations from before (January: Average: 1.27 | Median: 0.81)
- Micah Wittman
Rick, you mean that face with glasses I photoshopped tint into with an apparently disembodied arm which is actually very much attached to my eldest son? It's mostly just me :)
- Micah Wittman
Thanks, Michael. Yes, you have a rising tide of comment percentage (oh, wow, you were one of the originals from January - cool!)
- Micah Wittman
Yeah, that's a decent upward rise in comments, Nicholas.
- Micah Wittman
.6 (6,000/10,000) 3rd update - Now it's time to flip this on its head. My goal is to have (16,000/16,000) next time I post here. Regardless of what happens, I'm just looking forward to the next 10,000 comments, likes, posts, and new relationships I make here. It's all good!
- Michael Fidler
1.76 (7539/4290) My commenting habits haven't chanced much, but it felt like I clicked Like a lot less, and this ratio confirms that for me.
- Micah Wittman
.82 as of right now. edit: on January 8th it was 0.39 -- when I saw that, I decided to make more of an effort to comment. When I hit 10k "likes" I decided I wouldn't "like" anything else until I also had 10k comments.
- Bren -- Making Contact
Jimminy, I'm copyrighting every single number. It's kind of a honeypot ;) Actually, it was curiosity mostly, but I also hope to build a sampling (small and self-selecting as it may be) for anyone who might want to analyze it.
- Micah Wittman
Wow I didn't realize I was so out of whack!! 12.23 that's got to be a record (and I don't even import my feeds with the summary as a comment)!!
- Chris Myles
Thanks JA, Chris (wow, 12+ is unusual :), Serkan and Nine!
- Micah Wittman
0.89 (17818/19913) (Somebody better make a cool ass graph of all this data!)
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Micah.. I told you I take my likes seriously; ). You *might* want to ask (in a separate post) what percentage of likes were used to "bookmark" a post or save it for later VS actually "liking it". I NEVER used like for that.. but I did use a private group that if filled with my own topics (and comments)..
- Chris Myles
OK, so statistically, what ratio results in better interaction on FF?
- Jason, Mosquito
I don't think I could argue that any particular kind of ratio is "best", because if Lurkers like to Lurk and cultivate (via Likes) and the Chatty-ites love to chat, to pump out much many more comments than Likes, each can be happy and make for a great social experience.
- Micah Wittman
So I'm fairly balanced, it appears. I would imagine it's because I try to comment on every post I like. That's not always true, obviously. But mostly it is.
- Jason, Mosquito
Just clicking "Like" seems too easy. I feel like I should say something, too.
- Jason, Mosquito
wow, what a difference time makes, when i 1st posted on this thread, 6.43%, now = 1.25%, for a 5.18% difference, :o (and this is the earliest post to date i've recovered of my activity on ff)
- chaz2b
chaz, I think there's been a big fluctuation for most people (maybe not that much). This is the oldest post on which you commented that you've recovered?
- Micah Wittman
that was my third post... It's interesting to see how the number has changed. of course, I manipulated the number to a degree, because I stopped "liking" things for a while...
- Bren -- Making Contact
Bren, the other thing that can seriously throw off someone's stats is a feed that upon each item it imports adds a comment automatically.
- Micah Wittman
true. that can seriously inflate comment stats, of course. Then you have someone like RAPatton, who posts a gazillion comments, in part because of his playlist posts where he will list each song in a separate comment. I found, after this post in fact, that I tended to "like" things much more frequently than comment on them, that I was lurking instead of participating. I have changed the way I use ff rather considerably, and I think for the better.
- Bren -- Making Contact
Thanks Paola, Michael, Artemko, J. and Daniel!

(UPDATED) Joshua, the 18-year-old grandson of my first cousin, is being transported (from Alabama) to Emory U Hospital in Atlanta where there is an oscillator which will breathe for him. He was put in a medically induced coma this morning because he has not been able to rest for days and his oxygen has been around 60. Suffering from pneumonia. :-(
:( So sorry to hear. Hope he gets better.
- Roberto Bonini
Just thought I'd give an update—Joshua had several critical episodes, with his fever spiking up to 104.9°F at times. However, he's improved greatly over the last couple of days, and he was taken off the ventilator this morning and is breathing on his own again. Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers.
- Glen, Bespectacled Elder
very glad to hear he's breathing on his own again! I'll keep streaming the positive thoughts! :-)
- vicster is...
That's great news. Hope he continues to improve quickly.
- Trish R
Thanks for the update, Glen and glad to hear things are getting better.
- WorldofHiglet
By the way, they have not fully identified the root cause, but they've tested and confirmed that it is NOT H1N1, but probably the "regular" flu variety along with some secondary bacterial infections.
- Glen, Bespectacled Elder
Thanks for the update, Glen. Joshua is certainly in my thoughts.
- Derrick
:-( Many warm thoughts and prayers for Joshua and the whole family.
- Ladybug Heather
One more update: Joshua left the ICU for Scottish Rite hospital for rehab last week; he's going home tomorrow!!
- Glen, Bespectacled Elder
Congratulations!!! Happy to hear he will be back at home.
- Mary Carmen
Oh poor thing. Glad to read the updates that he's doing much better. Great news!
- Carmen - Happy 2010!
This sounds like a variation on a famous saying by Theodore Herzl (the father of modern Zionism) who said "If you will it, it is no dream" to describe his belief that a Jewish State was a possibility, even though it was no more than a dream in his time. He didn't live to see the establishment of the State of Israel.
