Seesmic, Friendfeed and Twitter next to each other in a test version of Twhirl. Adding tons of Friendfeed experience improvements in there, Marco rocks.
Is twitter's api actually back up at 50 req/hr?
- Shawn Farner
The old Twhirl works for me in linux for me, it just won't remember my password.

Yes Marco does. Twhirl is becoming my info hub. And if Twitter dies, who cares I'm sure Pownce, Jaiku or whatever could be swapped in

We made an executive parenting decision today, we're in the middle of birthday season, so we pooled all the kids' birthday money and got the family a Wii. We had a blast playing with it tonight.
Tim and I had fun after the kids were tossed in bed. We've been talking about wanting something we could both be interested in, so I think it solves that issue, too.

"Good news for Canadian iPhone owners. On Wednesday, Skype for iPhone finally crossed the border into Canada, where it is now available for download from the App Store. The well-known voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, app first became available for the Apple smartphone about five months ago, on March 29."

CNet Crave: New iPods revealed early? Thanks to an unceremonious cat out of the bag from a third-party case manufacturer, we now have pictures of what Apple's new iPods apparently look like. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17...
http://www.cygnett.com/product... Several of the product pages on the G5 nano and G3 Touch note the cases have access to "camera". Will have to wait for the event I guess to see what the specs and such are. Here's hoping the new prices Apple posted earlier hold for these new products.
- Mac64
This looks like an iPhone with a doctored screen.
- Khürt Williams
Yeah, both pictures look badly 'shopped.
- Cheryl Jones
This doesn't mean I don't think the iPod touch or iPod nano are getting cameras, I do (and I'd buy the new touch if it had a camera...).

It shouldn't take long for the upcoming release of BrightBerry (Brighkite app for BlackBerry). I expect the features to be awesome! Just follow http://brightkite.com/people... for the latest news about it.
One of the great things about Desktop Manager for Mac is that it is an application built for Mac users. The software has a clean user interface and a simple navigation system. Sync’ing individual files is only one click away, whereas it is a few navigation clicks away in the PC version.

Mac users, rejoice -- well, the BlackBerry users in the lot of you, anyway. RIM's been infamous over the years for all but ignoring Mac support for its devices, throwing out the occasional bone like Media Sync, but they're now going big with a full-fledged Desktop Manager supporting Mac OS 10.5.5 and above when it launches... sometime. The big sticking point right now is that RIM isn't talking about an availability date, all we know is that it'll happen some time in September -- but when that date comes, you'll have a suite that's able to sync iTunes, add and remove apps, perform firmware updates, create backups and restore from them, and manage multiple BlackBerrys at the same time. Nokia, maybe you guys want to take note here?

Some features that will be present in the first release are as follows: - Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks - Add/Remove applications - Update your device when new software becomes available - Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption - Manage multiple devices

"Skype has released the latest version of their cross-platform VOIP/chat client. There are a bunch of new features and bug fixes in this version so there is definitely something for everyone in this release. The new features since 2.7 break down into two main areas:"

Her: Remember when my hair was short? Me: Back when you used to obey me? Her: Yeah. I was good then. If you cut my hair, I'll maybe be good again. Me: Really? Her: My long hair makes me do bad things and I can't hear you. - http://www.flickr.com/photos...
I don't follow the logic, but I am tired of combing her hair. Maybe I should chop it off and she can hear me better. LOL This conversation happened right after she disobeyed me by doing the same thing she got in trouble for the day before.

I cut my hair off. Maybe she'll think short hair = tattoos?
- Derrick
:) The other day I got a henna kit to give her a tattoo, but she's been so horrible the past few days that she doesn't even get that now.
- Admiral Anika
And the funny thing is that she's dying to go to a salon to get her hair cut. She's never done that before. Money aside, since she's being so bad, I'm "punishing" her by not taking her to the salon. I think I'm punishing her.
- Admiral Anika
Shave it ALL off... maybe she'll stop talking all together. Sweet silence, where art thou?
- Adrian
Oh! That is about one of the cutest things I have heard. hahahaha...she is a cutie
- Janet
LOL @Adrian. Remember, *you* were the one curious about what she would say before she started talking. Now we know. Oh, to go back to 2003.
- Admiral Anika
She is so adorable...even if she's "bad"!
- Anne Bouey
Don't let the beauty fool ya! She orchestrated a silent jail break yesterday from our back yard. One moment they are playing in the backyard with their bikes and cars, next thing I know they are across the street playing with the neighbor - bikes, cars and all. They managed to get the gate open (it was locked) and cross the street with all their gear without a sound. She has now officially graduated from the margarine of evil to the manteca of evil...
- Adrian
That must of scared the crap out of you both :P When my kids scared me like that there was always hell to pay. Never frighten the MOTHER :)

I wasn't here, which is why they were able to do it.

chop chop. it's worth a try. she'll be beautiful no matter what length her hair is, so go for it, and keep reminding her that now she has to listen and be good.

She's adorable. I bet you'll remember these days with such fondness when she's a little older. My wife and I reminisce about the good ol' days. :-)

I bought a pair of tiny blue Keds at the mall in high school and gave one to my then girlfriend, keeping the other to myself. Ten years later our two year old has grown right past the size where she could've worn them and I didn't even think about it until it was too late.

- LANjackal
The scientific accuracy of this chart is questionable. It looks like the Megatron silhouette is from the Transformer's cartoon. The 50 foot woman is crouching. And the line from Ghostbusters is "killed by a 100-foot marshmallow", which presumably doesn't include the hat.

I haven't faced issues with receiving the notifications but I do think it needs lot of enhancements to make it useful. To start with at least a dashboard of all the notifications. Right now it becomes useless when there are too many apps with it. I only use it with Prowl as of now.
- Kiran Patchigolla
Yes, some kind of dashboard would address my main issue... bumping good apps off the first page because I want to see all my notifications at once.
- LogEx
No. I saw, and still see great potential for Push to make the iPhone stand apart. Even more annoyingly I tried testing Push enabled apps and have yet to receive one smegging message. The only Push service I’ve successfully used was linking my Google Calendar to the calendar app, so appointments made on iPhone are Pushed out to my public Gcal address on the web. Now if someone can make a Push enabled RSS app, I’ll be a very happy man.
- CannonGod
Actually I've just been tipped off by @moviedan on Twitter I can use Prowl on iPhone. Setting up RSS on Mac and pushing out Growl updates I can create notifications for ANYTHING. Or at least that's the theory :) Wish me luck!
- CannonGod
@Jake, yeah using prowl now - its ok but a long long way from being reliable
- Zee.
@Zee, Once I have it set up I'm going to run some tests on reliability and lag between the RRS feed being pushed, to it actually reaching the device. Hoping I can set it to remind me when new TV show torrents are available, or when a TV show is scheduled to start. And much much moar! >:3
- CannonGod
You need a little notification area on the bottom of the screen, or some sort of shade that you can drag down that displays a list of notifications that can be selected... ;-) While I'm sure it could be better implemented, it's inherently crappy because it's a work-around for not running multiple apps concurrently. My guess it they won't waste too much time improving push, but will rather be working on multiple apps functionality for upcoming versions of the OS.
- Christopher A Carr
I love MobileMe and Prowl. AP's is meh. Here's the problem, I think: people are thinking of push notifications as "messages." They're not. They're a message TO AN APP. If you want something readable, etc., just use SMS; that's NOT what push notifications are for. Push notifications are great, for example, when MobileMe uses it to keep your Calendar or Addressbook continuously updated....
- Glen, Bespectacled Elder
@Glen, I see what you're saying. I know Growl supports the ability to send SMS and I have like 600 free texts a month that I'll NEVER use. Recommend I use that instead? Anyone know if that will cost extra and not eat into my free text surplus?
- CannonGod
Glen: +1, at least as far as what they're good for... I have no idea what Apple's intention actually was, but about all I want out of push is an updated badge. For example, I'm not interested in getting popups telling me about the weather, but I would *love* to be able to glance at the phone and see the current temp and an icon describing the forecast.
- Roger Benningfield
@Roger, From what I've seen Google Android UI is the best place for that :\ Widgets.
- CannonGod
I don't think Apple through the implementation through carefully. They probably did not anticipate so many apps were going to be updated with push notification support. They need to go back and create a more intelligent way of displaying many notifications.
- Alex Knight
Ian, or notification pull-down thing, a la Android -- same difference.
- Christopher A Carr
Prowl changed my thinking. It made push notifications very useful. And I'm getting all of my notifications no problem through prowl.
- Bwana ☠
Echoing Bwana here. I haven't done a huge amount with it yet, but I've been experimenting with Prowl's API and had no problem using that and getting all my notifications.
- Jalada
+1 Bwana. Prowl actually notified me of this comment via FF email. I'm also testing msgpush.com for push email notifications.
- Kevin Whalen
from email
I haven't had any problems with push notifications.
- Geoff Schultz
What's the point of Prowl if it's restricted only to the apps on your OS X machine?
- Akiva Moskovitz
I've only got 1 or 2 apps that use it AFAIK. Right now it's useless to me because no one seems to be using it. :-/
- Robert DeBord
Akiva: It also has a really simple web-based API you can use to tie it in with practically anything.
- Jalada
from IM
I'll look into it but I don't see the usefulness. I don't want to have to rely on Adium at home to tell me I have a message that I then launch BeeJive to get to (or whatever).
- Akiva Moskovitz
I agree. I'm more interested in using it in a scripting environment to quickly and easily set up notifications for things (e.g. server administration, my own Twitter push notifications, a filtered email push notification, that sort of thing).
- Jalada
from IM
Yeah, I can see that being incredibly useful for systems administrators, etc. Or developers to get a notification when a new bug gets assigned to them and so forth.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I use three push apps on my iPhone (Textfree, BeejiveIM, and TrackThis), and my experience with push has been good so far. As far as I can tell, everything is behaving as one would expect. With push on Textfree and Beejive, I've reduced my SMS use to almost zero.
- Chris Johnson
Got playing with Prowl and am seriously impressed. Now I'm just disappointed I can't find RSS feeds for some of things I wanted to track. But otherwise it's a great extension to my desktop experience.
- CannonGod
Prowl kicks ass. Out to dinner and drinks. Now at movies watching Hangover and getting my Prowl notifications.
- Kevin Whalen
from email
@Kevin: I was gonna ask, how did you sent up push for FF comments? I know it's by email but needed more details. I'm interested too :)
- CannonGod
I have FF set to email me on posts I like and comment on. I have set up Google + Growl notifications on my mac. Which will send notifications through prowl to my iPhone.
- Kevin Whalen
from email
I think they're pretty clearly a sop to keep people happy until Apple can provide enough battery life to make background tasks usable.

FYI...I installed this on my Curve 8330. Installed fine. Haven't tested uploading new notes yet. When doing a search, the app just opens up the web browser and takes you to the mobile site. I don't care for that.
- Matt
Matt, I assume you are working with OS 4.5? Interesting...
- Adam
Yep, 4.5. Tested uploading a photo last night. Worked w/ no issues, and everything synced up. Seems like it may run a bit slow, but I haven't used on 4.6 to compare. I've read of others installing on 4.5 and getting some error messages, but then still having it work. I've had no error messages at all up to this point, knock wood.
- Matt
Works fine for me so far on an 8830 with 4.5.0.77. The voice not did save as a .amr file though, which won't allow me to open it in the free client version on the Mac.
- Rob
My Evernote is about 2.5GB now. (I'm a premium user). How does this version work? Does it sync ALL notes?
- james
@james: it does not sync all notes. All note viewing/editing is done by launching the mobile website in the BlackBerry's browser. The BB Evernote app currently only facilitates note creation. You can create a text note, picture note (either from a saved picture, or directly from snapping the camera), audio note (except it uses a voice CODEC instead of MP3 or AAC for the note), or...

Well, it lets you tag, comment, etc. on the items before you post it. When you E-mail stuff to Evernote, you have to go back later to tag it.

I started using it myself, and like it better than Twitterberry, but it's still missing key features! Where is: favoriting, searching for user timeline by name, direct message timelines? It seems I'm always trading one feature set for another.

It's not really that bad, people, despite what you hear. Sure, it does have it's problems, but I think most people knock it simply because it's not the iPhone. It's pretty simple, folks--if you want an iPhone, go buy an iPhone.
- Fleagle
I have been using the leaked firmware for a long time now and it makes the phone better after every update. I would still not recommend it to someone that is not a techi or someone who likes to tinker.
- Zach Scott
I think the point is not that everyone wants another iPhone, but they want something better. So when something comes out (like the Storm) this hyped to be better, yet within 5 minutes of use you can clearly tell it's not, it's going to attract some (deserved) criticism.
- Andrew Johnson
totally agree with you andrew... all the iphone killers (so far) have at best been iphone peers and at worst been wanabees
- Chris Heath
I don't recall anyone saying the storm was better pre-release.
- Zach Scott
Andrew, I never saw the advertising claiming that the Storm was 'better', and I don't think that people are clamoring for a phone that's 'better' than the iPhone, just different. After all, the iPhone is fine, and works. Why do we already need something that's 'better'? We all make choices based on our personal preferences. Not one is better than the other. I have the Samsung Instinct,...

I absolutely DO think that people are looking for an answer for the iPhone? Why? Simply because of the constriction of the AT&T exclusive agreement. I was with Verizon for a number of years, and was hoping to get a piece of the iphone pie, but was hamstrung because I was with the wrong service.

"We're told that the Limited Edition Premium Bundle will include the game itself, a Höfner Bass (which will undoubtedly do Sir Paul McCartney and southpaws the world over no favors by being right handed), a microphone, a microphone stand, undisclosed "additional special content" and the real kicker -- a Beatles-inspired and Ludwig-branded Rock Band 2 drums, complete with a classic pearl finish and vintage replica Beatles kick drum head. The whole kit is slated to launch worldwide this September, with USers having to pay $249, Europeans paying €199 and Britons paying £179."

Wow. As I recall, the original Rock Band was $179 (USD)? Or am I making that up? $249 seems really steep. I'll probably just buy the game and not the bundle anyway, but still.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Wow that is spendy, they must bet betting on die hard Beatles fans being willing to pay handsomely. I'm not that big a fan actually so I'm not even sure if I'd get the stand alone game. now maybe if you can import the Beatles tracks into Rock Band and Rock Band 2 proper I'll consider it.
- Joe Pierce
Oh, I'm a huge Beatles fan, so I'm definitely getting the game. I wouldn't mind upgrading my Rock Band 1 instruments, but not for this much of a premium.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I suspect in six months, an addon only package will be introduced at a much lower rate. But, they have to get what they can get now ;)

I'll get it, but only the standalone game. I just want the tracks, I got all the instruments already. I love that this is the first digital distribution of The Beatles ever. A video game. :D

Honestly, I think this is pretty cool. I'm almost a big enough Beatles fan and I have almost enough incentive (I currently have a slightly busted guitar and my drums have definitely seen better days) to spring for the special edition, despite the price. HmmmmMMMMmmm...
- Chieze Okoye
Outsanity, yeah, that rumor was on Joystiq or Kotaku this morning...I think I posted that earlier. Would be cool if they can figure out how to hook up that many controllers. Eugene, I'm sure you can play guitar with the bass - it's kinda cool, actually, for them to ship an instrument modeled on a bass, since almost all of the other controllers are modeled on guitars.
