[ubuntu] Ubuntu Beats Windows 7 and Windows XP by a Huge Margin - Ubuntu Forums
According to a file systems performance comparison published recently, the brand new Windows 7 is actually slower than the 8-years-old Windows XP in all tests and Ubuntu 9.04 beats both Windows versions in all file management operations by a huge margin. - Alex

"Is it really that important? Don't we fight all over the licenses that allow building businesses? I agree that giving back is an important part of all the OSS concept, but even Linus never told he doesn't want businesses to be created. While I may not like it, I think its legitimate to create closed businesses around free software (Google isn't that bad, isn't it?). On the other hand, just thinking about the possibility that Gnome may become based on .Net (Mono) rubs me the wrong way." - Alex

"Many people don't get it that cache efficiency is as important as memory footprint. Besides, this study also looked at actual number of files accessed/changed during the application work. It should be common sense, that the less files the browser touches, the faster and more responsive it will perform (if all the other parameters are the same). In this regard, Opera probably is the most responsive browser, and IE7 probably feels like 56 baud modem." - Alex
