If I were to write about ways in which I'd like to extend OPML, are there people here who would critique what I was thinking of doing and make suggestions for better/other ways to accomplish my objectives?
JMaultasch: Thanks. I'll post something here soon (either tonight or over the weekend).

I had entered descriptions of three proposed "extensions" as a comment here. In order to facilitate the discussion, I deleted the "combined comment" here and made three separate entries - one for each of the proposed extensions. But since all three of those entries got cut off, I added a comment to each one in which I supplied the complete intended text of the entry.

JMaultasch (and everyone else): Any comments, critiques, suggestions, (or even questions)?

JMaultasch: Would you clarify what your "yes" meant? Thanks.

I note that when I update my InstantOutline, some (but not all) of the changed content of the outline gets posted to the FriendFeed instant-outline-beta group. Is that deliberate? Is it avoidable? Does it annoy people?
I ask because, with the exception of one short question I explicitly posted there, everything else from me there was a behind-the-scenes consequence of just updating my InstantOutline - and yet I received the comment "Don't continue to post your general comments about the format and the OPML app here in the instant outline beta room."

Here's something I've been looking for. Convert a blog roll list into an OPML. I've tried going around it by sicking a crawler on the list, then extracting the RSS via filters, then manually cleaning them, then running them thru Feedshow OPML reader, then finally saving the file,- but it's not too elegant nor productive. I know that most RSS...
William: Since your entry was cut off, you could use the same trick that I just used, and enter your complete thought as a comment to the cut-off entry.

Question about showing node modification dates in InstantOutlines: Is there an easy way to use the "Insert Date/Time" command to show modification dates of the nodes? Could this be automated in some way or would you have to use some manual convention like having the text in each node begin with the date it was last modified? What is the best...
I want to have three different types of nodes. For simplicity, let's call them types A, B, and C. A Type A node must be immediately subordinate to the summit or another Type A node. Only Type A nodes can be immediately subordinate to the summit. A Type B node can be immediately subordinate to either a Type A node or another Type B node. A Type C node can be immediately subordinate to either a Type A node, a Type B node, or another Type C node. My thought is to use the "Type" attribute of <outline> to show whether a node is type A, B, or C, but I would not express any of the rules about what is allowed to be subordinate to what in the outline. I thought that the subordination rules would just be understood by the specialized editor that would be used for editing my outline.

I want each node to contain a revision history with the name of a person and a date/timestamp for the original creation of the node and every modification of the node. I don't think I need to track what was changed in each modification. The spec describes <dateCreated> and <dateModified> optional elements within <head>. I want something like that,...

I don't think I need to track what was changed in each modification. The spec describes <dateCreated> and <dateModified> optional elements within <head>. I want something like that, but expanded to identify the person responsible for the creation or modification, and that I can associate (separately) with each <outline>.

I want each node to have a title and a body. The reason is so that I can say something like "show titles only" or "show titles and bodies" or "show/hide the body of this node". I want the title and body to be locked together so that no reorganization of the outline or insertion of new nodes can separate a title and its body. I was thinking of the...
