If we can find a slide rule, a compass, and a ball of twine I think we'd have them licked. - Freemor
You've read it Freemor! Have you finished it yet? It's massive and I'm finding it hard to steal enough time to finish it. Got up early this AM just to read. - Leo Laporte
lol, not yet, was just commenting on the problem from the "Best line so far", that and I miss my slide rule :) - Freemor
I'm surprised you didn't get the audiobook (knowing your fondness for that format) - Freemor
Cheers for old men like me who still own a slide rule! - Robert Hafer
no-- I still prefer Digg for my 'news' (ie time-wasting) (... and lol @dave winer) - john conroy
FriendFeed does eat up a lot of time and I think thats the challenge they face. They have to figure out ways to present things a little better so we don't feel like we are missing something. As users we need to quit trying to read every comment and hitting refresh over and over. Its like we had to learn with email and reading feeds...take breaks or plan the time you will be checking. With all the RSS Readers and sites like FriendFeed, Digg, and Techmeme many of us are way ahead of the curve on news. That is usually the reason we see a lot of dupes because we saw one of the first mentions/articles and then over the next 24 hours everyone else picks it up and blasts it out there again for us to see. I think the Digg crew believes it can overcome the issues they have, probably the reason they haven't sold yet. - Delete Me
Comments are much better here. Much less "Apple is teh awesomes!", "OMG! Ubuntu is so amazing, even though I use Windows 95", "Ron Paul is amazing", "Religion is pointless" etc - Richard Bradshaw
If this was on Digg it would be top 101 reasons, 6 pages of ads on a blog copied from somewhere else. Way to condense! Seriously surprised though, ONLY 5? - Andrew Smith
i still use digg as well. in one shot i can see top 10 popular news, FF i can't. it is cluttered for a one shot look (even with the "show best of") - Chris Harris
Haven't logged in in months. Which is why I don't import my account. I'd add the 6th reasons: the comments system is better here. - Roberto Bonini
i think part of the reason is the community... digg was invaded by internauts and 4channers. friendfeed makes more sense because u better control what gets to you. and the comments are usually (for now?) from a relatively informed circle - Ruben Llibre
@Ruben - " digg was invaded by internauts and 4channers" - yep! which is why Digg is worthless - Enrique Gutierrez via twhirl
I only go to Digg if I see an interesting Digg post in FriendFeed or if one of my FF buddies sends me a shout. - Susan Beebe
The idiots and spammers will find their way here eventually. - Greg Beck
I agree. I like that I can follow people I know and trust and get my news or happenings here - more relevant for me. When something or someone isn't relevant for my tastes, I can hide them. On Digg, getting whatever the popular diggers like on the front page doesn't appeal to me anymore. I admit that it used to, but that was when I was new to social networking and wanted to find out what was going on. I'm liking and using FriendFeed more these days. I may digg something I like once every month or two. - Liana Lehua
The iPhone can't RECORD video, so play only. A ScobblePhone it is not. - TranceMist
@TranceMist -The iphone can record video, if its jailbroken. And I'm sure a slew of video apps (much better thanthe choppy current ones) will be out on the 11th. - Leif Hansen
@TranceMist: Using the iPhone Video Recorder for jailbroken iPhones, I can shoot and upload vids directly to YouTube. It is not streaming and not great quality, but it records video and audio. - Liana Lehua
What annoys me is they've only come out with this now because Fixwagon beat them to it. - Duncan Riley
Yeah exactly Duncan, this was pretty pathetic IMHO. - MG Siegler
What bothers me is how short their demo was. It almost seemed like it wasn''t functional since they cut it so fast - Bwana McCall
Heh hopefully this doesn't make for more qik spam on twitter, though I have moved more to plurk now - BCK
I wish QIK would integrate with Windows Mobile sometime soon. I have been dying to use there service. - Mike Fruchter
The question one needs to ask will the application run on phones that have not been jailbroke - Todd Cochrane via twhirl
Duncan if you think Qik started working on this yesterday I have a cool bridge in SF that I would like to sell you. Qik showed off Windows Mobile last week. - Robert Scoble
Snay: It can take some time for the Recommendation engine to calculate your matches the first time. We are working to reduce this cold start problem. - Caleb Elston
My Matches is still empty after nearly 24 hours. Is that normal? - Dan Nimtz
Dan, that is not normal, I will look into it. See where the pipes are clogged. - Caleb Elston
Caleb, same here I signed up yesterday afternoon. :) Thanks for looking into it. - Snay Trivedi
Very accurate and insightful - I resemble many of these behaviors. - Dan Nimtz
Spot on. Looking back at my own behavior, this process takes about a year. I can only handle a few services at any one time. I used to love digg and Twitter and use them daily, now not at all. The only companies I've had any loyalty to past a year in this current Web 2.0 business cycle is Apple and Google (and I make no apologies for this behavior). - Jason Kaneshiro
You can see this happening with twitter right now. The BIG early adopters are now using twitter to market Plurk and FriendFeed. most of the traffic on Plurk and FriendFeed seems to be about that service... Very interesting thought provoking post! - Brad
I agree with this post. What happens after #5? I find I just fall into being a user if something survives that long. - Robert Scoble
