Akiva Moskovitz
One of the surest ways to determine the maturity of someone is to see if they can handle others having a different opinion. If they can't comprehend why someone could possibly like some band or some movie that they don't like, then, well, they've failed.
I think you're wrong. Completely, totally wrong. I'm going to go throw a fit about it now. - DGentry
'The proof is in the pudding!' 'Well I *HATE* pudding!' - Akiva Moskovitz
Pudding rocks...Your insane..I completely disagree with you....lol - Bill Heslin
I cannot remember the source of this quote, but: "the older I get, the shorter the time between when I realize that someone is a jackass, and when I tell them they are one." - DGentry
It gets tougher, however, when someone holds an opinion that diverges from a bedrock truth of yours. Nevertheless, it's important to try to understand those that are wrong - I mean, that have a different view of life. - John E. Bredehoft from fftogo
I like Milli Vanilli. - Josh Haley from iPhone
looks like metafilter! - Pam Gwenzi
I see you met my ex. - Alix Whitmire
It's mistaking being fierce/strong willed with being intolerant and really just stupid, like you said #FAIL - sofarsoShawn
I can certainly comprehend the psychological/sociological reasons why some people enjoy racist rap or Nazi death metal or kids programs that teach jihad, but if you ask me to refrain from insulting such taste or ask me to teach my kids to tolerate such obvious insanity, I guess I fail the maturity test. I won't insult a person, but I will insult their evil art. - Gus
@Josh, now you're just troll baiting. :-P - Jason Huebel from iPhone
Gus, there's a huge difference between the brainwashing that MEMRI TV delivers and someone being all pissed off because you like Jethro Tull. - Akiva Moskovitz
MEMRI TV? How about Fox News? Less news, more conspiracy theory. - Dennis Jernberg
I think this is true in most cases, but some things are just wrong. - John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Dennis, as soon as FOX News features the equivalent of a Jew-eating Rabbit, I'll buy into your comparison. - Akiva Moskovitz
I guess you have a point. Fox and the talk-radio neocons aren't openly advocating the massacre of liberals. - Dennis Jernberg
We never accuse anyone of being immature until they get old enough to disagree with us--at length. - Kathy Fitch
Yes, Dennis. There is absolutely no comparison. At all. - Akiva Moskovitz
Kathy, nice use of the royal 'we'. - Akiva Moskovitz
This is about me, isn't it? *sagenod* Everything is, eventually. - Michael W. May
Screw you guys, ah'm goin' home - Slippy "Threadsbane" Lane
Akiva, if someone is OK with your opinion because he/she doesn't care about other people's opinions, does that mean he/she has maturity? - Brome
Damn... I just realized that if Akiva likes Tull, I have to agree with him again *pout* - Michael W. May
:-) I was wondering if anyone would go there, Akiva! It's really just first person plural, though, as in "We humans are so silly." - Kathy Fitch
I've had to fire so many friends based on this criteria alone. - Sean Oliver
Brome, it means that they're invited to my Solstice Party. - Akiva Moskovitz
I think I've been fired by some friends for being okay with some other friends' opinions, regardless of my personal comprehension or embracing of them. - ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
so true - Brian Appleby
I'm still back on this Josh Haley/Milli Vaniilli thing. Josh, I respect you. (Actually, I didn't say that. Someone else said it and I moved my lips.) - John E. Bredehoft
OK, we all know that neither Fab nor Rob actually sang on that hit album. I am just saying that the people who DID sing on it and the producers therein really knew what they were doing in cranking out a quality pop album. - Josh Haley from iPhone
I think I've just been called immature. - Paul
If you try and think of the things people say more like the sounds of dogs barking, and what they write more like the paths left by insects in tree bark, things make a lot more sense. - SuezanneC Baskerville
This seems bumpworthy to me for some reason. - Ken Sheppardson
I think "maturity" isn't necessarily the right term. It's more a measure of stubbornness. It may come from "failing to understand others", I just don't think it the term "maturity" accurately depicts the notion here. - G. Sigh
I would counter and say that it takes a mature person to just walk away rather than demonstrating epic stubbornness. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, that sounds like wise council: "Before a quarrel bursts forth, take your leave." - Melanie Reed
I would also say that it takes a mature person not to troll someone for disagreeing. Both sides can walk away or handle themselves with some kindness. - joey
I wasn't unkind to him. I was unkind to the girl who blocked our driveway. He's the one tried to make it personal by bringing Audrey into the mix. - Akiva Moskovitz
I didn't point a finger at a specific person; I think that several people were very unkind to him in that thread from the moment he opened his mouth. - joey
Oh. I just assumed you were talking about me since this is my thread and all. And also the fact that you hate me!~! - Akiva Moskovitz
Wait he brought Audrey into it? - Jimminy
Jimminy, yeah but only to say that he hopes that someone says mean things about her when she does something wrong as a teenager as I was saying mean things about the girl who blocked our driveway so as to teach us a lesson or something. - Akiva Moskovitz
But I kind of have a policy that if you try to use my daughter as leverage against me in a discussion, the gloves, kid or otherwise, come right off. - Akiva Moskovitz
Audrey's not a very good lever...she's too short. - Alex Scoble
But, man, does that girl have some torque. - Akiva Moskovitz
My point re: the word "mature" is that it's a bit too broad. My 5-year old niece may not exhibit epic stubbornness, but she is not a mature person either. My 70-year old uncle may not agree with me politically, and can be very stubborn, but remains a mature human for whom I have great respect. In other words, we're just painting with too broad a brush here. Mutual respect for one... more... - G. Sigh
G. Sigh, I agree. We learn the most about compassion when our heart's been the most broken. The kindness may be there before hand, but our loyalties can sometimes put that compassion out of balance. - Melanie Reed

3.74, which seems way off of everybody else's. I wonder what that says. I comment a lot more than I like. - Cyrus Lendvay

0.89 (17818/19913) (Somebody better make a cool ass graph of all this data!) - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Micah.. I told you I take my likes seriously; ). You *might* want to ask (in a separate post) what percentage of likes were used to "bookmark" a post or save it for later VS actually "liking it". I NEVER used like for that.. but I did use a private group that if filled with my own topics (and comments).. - Chris Myles
1.78 (8529/4782) - Micah Wittman
Likes are down relative to comments, which matches my much lower frequency of liking. I'm a more selective liker than ever. - Micah Wittman
0.9009 (6055/6721) - Jason Huebel
OK, so statistically, what ratio results in better interaction on FF? - Jason Huebel
I don't think I could argue that any particular kind of ratio is "best", because if Lurkers like to Lurk and cultivate (via Likes) and the Chatty-ites love to chat, to pump out much many more comments than Likes, each can be happy and make for a great social experience. - Micah Wittman
So I'm fairly balanced, it appears. I would imagine it's because I try to comment on every post I like. That's not always true, obviously. But mostly it is. - Jason Huebel
Just clicking "Like" seems too easy. I feel like I should say something, too. - Jason Huebel
383/372 - ashish
'Just clicking "Like" seems too easy' — Jason, that's because you're from the Chatty-ite tribe :) - Micah Wittman
Thanks, ashish. - Micah Wittman
wow, what a difference time makes, when i 1st posted on this thread, 6.43%, now = 1.25%, for a 5.18% difference, :o (and this is the earliest post to date i've recovered of my activity on ff) - chaz2b
chaz, I think there's been a big fluctuation for most people (maybe not that much). This is the oldest post on which you commented that you've recovered? - Micah Wittman

.5666 currently (30,084/53,093) - Alex Scoble
Thanks, Bren. - Micah Wittman
Thank you, Alex :) - Micah Wittman
that was my third post... It's interesting to see how the number has changed. of course, I manipulated the number to a degree, because I stopped "liking" things for a while... - Bren, Photophobe
Bren, the other thing that can seriously throw off someone's stats is a feed that upon each item it imports adds a comment automatically. - Micah Wittman
true. that can seriously inflate comment stats, of course. Then you have someone like RAPatton, who posts a gazillion comments, in part because of his playlist posts where he will list each song in a separate comment. I found, after this post in fact, that I tended to "like" things much more frequently than comment on them, that I was lurking instead of participating. I have changed the way I use ff rather considerably, and I think for the better. - Bren, Photophobe
Thanks, Sarah, Tutivillus. - Micah Wittman

Micah this is like 11 months ago, I see you have almost doubled your rate. lets make a graph for everybody now, :) - Mahmood Padura

DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Let's all publicly love each other for a bit. Say something nice about another friendfeeder.
Derrick is really cute in person, and he's funny as hell. - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Nakachi is the bringer of words that brighten every day. - LogEx
I like that one, Logical Extremes. Again, the ability to like individual comments or posts would be good here. On topic, Ophelia, who is not that active on friendfeed but filters here anyway, is very good with words. Her updates both entertain and inspire me. - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Monique posts something that makes me smile or chuckle just about every day she's active - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
FFing Enigma (aka Tina) is articulate, witty, and passionate. - Glen Campbell, B.A.
RAPatton might be the best dad i've ever read about (my dad excluded of course) - Steve C
I still love Anika's avatar. - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
I have to pick one? - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
Nope. You can do it as many times as you like. For instance, I like how ha3rvey is funny and just a genuinely nice guy. :) - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Akiva's great pictures of Babby Audrey and Rochelle always make me smile (technically that was just about one person... sorta...) :D - Her Lindsay-ness
"i18n" is short for "internationalization", i+<18 letters>+n. By that schema, i80and saved us all a lot of screen real estate. - DGentry
What can I say about one person? Jason Toney's posts always elicit wonder and insight. RAPatton, I feel like is just full of awesome with his insight and approach to things. Haggis is a barrel of laughs. Steven Perez (when he's not fighting with conservatives) has spawned his own catchphrase. Nicholas K. is just about the most awesome single dad I've seen in a long time. Tina and... more... - Derrick
Victor Ganata is extremely intelligent, empathetic and articulate. He has always been exceptional in understanding others whether he agrees or disagrees with an opinion, and he always treats everyone with the utmost of respect. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
Jonathan Hardesty is funny and wants to have my babies. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I wish I could call everyone out. If we interact here on FF, take it on faith that I pretty much love you. - Derrick
You know me, I can't ever pick one person so I will simply say that every single person I subscribe to is smart, interesting, funny and make being on this crazy little site damn entertaining. Those that I've been lucky enough to get to know beyond the site prove to me every day that everyone who has ever said only weirdos and stalkers are online are just smoking crack. - ♥patricia♥
I'm with you there, Derrick. There are so many people here who are funny, smart, interesting, entertaining, etc. There are even a couple who make me blush. NOT NAMING ANY NAMES. And then there's that cilantro dude. - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
Steven Perez is a funny guy, and can cheer me up when I'm down. - Chris, Taskerrific Guy
My first public skype call was with Tad, Glen and the Amber - a lovely conversation with great people. Tad was bold enough to live stream his workstation software install expedition and is a friend to all; Glen is chalk full of incisive wit and has an easy going conversational style; and the Amber was open enough to admit she's shy but worked up the courage to get on the call anyway. Like I said, great people, and quite representative of all the good people in the land of friendfeed. - Micah Wittman
Derrick tells the truth! There's so many awesome people I can't choose just one. - Rodfather
Anika Malone is as straight a shooter as there ever has been She will always tell you the truth about what she thinks. I find that to be a quality many people could use more of, and I respect her, and love her for it. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
I can't believe that there are people I'm not subbed too. - Derrick
Shevonne is a hottie, and not because she is nice to look at. - Amber, Random Time Lord
Damn, Amber. LOL - Derrick
I love how Amber unabashedly states things. - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
I wrote in my 25 things that one of my laments in life is finding a woman who challenges me mentally. Tina does just that. With aplomb. There have been countless times that I was sure of myself and she will make a comment that causes me to completely rethink the issue entirely. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
Louis Gray got me to think about just being myself and not allowing the tech heavy side of FF to intimidate me. - Derrick
Michael W May and RAPatton have the best tastes in music I've ever seen in my life, I applaud and covet their music collection. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Derrick and Mona and Akiva and Rochelle and Jandy and many of you make me laugh every day. - Louis Gray
Derrick is the shizzle, treated me like an old friend. That's one of 500 nice things I have to say about other Friendfeeders. - Eric @ CS Techcast
Rachel Fox takes outstanding pictures. - Louis Gray
My little pea... fierce as a woozle, indeed! So quiet and unassuming... But so poignant at exactly the right moment. The exactly right phrase to every situation. If she can' brighten your mood, nobody else can, either. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
Johnny is just plain awesome - Amber, Random Time Lord
DYSP! Steven and I disagree here and there but in the end I absolutely admire his sense of humor and his passion. A truly A-Lister here on Friendfeed. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
Alex Scoble, Cristo, Chris White and Thomas Hawk vigorously defend their views, but never take it (or make it) personal. - Kevin Fox
Whew... Only 642 more to go... - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
I love all of you here making my day brighter :) - BeeLing
Thomas Hawk makes me want to be a better photographer. - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
Derrick and Monique would be my road dawgs if we lived in the same city - Amber, Random Time Lord
Robert Scoble is on a mission to close down every other social network. - Louis Gray
Tad is fun to chat with, even during the awkward moments - Amber, Random Time Lord
I love the fact that Rochelle always likes the same stuff I like. And that Akiva and I both grew up in southeast Texas. - Glen Campbell, B.A.
I think, most of all, Derrick has redefined what it means to be yourself. I have had the distinct honor of meeting him and what you see here is Derrick. He shares his joys with us, which is easy, but he also shares his pain with us. I must say that I am jealous of his ability to be open, and I admire him immensely. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
I love everyone who gives me a reason to drop my pants... that and Josh Haley. - Johnny Worthington
I love johnny dropping his pants....o_O - WorldofHiglet
Pea has a lovely voice and makes days better. - Amber, Random Time Lord
Bow to Joe Pierce and his movie prowess. - Amber, Random Time Lord
*drops pants* - Johnny Worthington
edythe, Morton, and Kol for liking so much, they allow everyone to notice each other. - Rodfather
I can't thank April Russo enough for all the help she has given me here at Friend Feed. She is awesome in my book. - Brent - Long Live Rock
I'd like to know how it Is I'm seem to be commenting right around the time Johnny is droppin' Pants? - Brent - Long Live Rock

Anna and Rodfather are great for liking the same random crap I do. - Amber, Random Time Lord
James (Tsali) you win for putting up with me all this time. Rah for being Rah. Anika for cutting to the quick in a conversation. And etc... you know you rock if I follow you. - Amber, Random Time Lord
I guess what I am saying is there are roughly a squillion people on Frienfeed of whom I am in awe and also whom I have the most respect. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF) from fftogo
i like jim janotti. he's cool. - Trish Haley

aww. I would love to babysit Zoe! That means a lot, thank you. - ♥patricia♥
You are all awesome, but bonus props to Tina (aka) for consistently being the voice of reason in every conversation, to Derrick for being Derrick, Jandy for keeping it real, and Chris Baskind for bringing the issues, Kol Tregastes for non-stop cool stuff...man, I'm realizing I could go on...what an amazing community :-D - Louis Simoneau
Mattie Kenny is the Dulcinea to my Don Quixote. - Steven Perez
3 of you are awesome for donating to the cause of FFundercats recently. - Josh Haley

Every time something mildly bad happens I think to myself "DAMN YOU STEVEN PEREZ!" (hey, I think that's something nice to say about him ;) - Alejandro
darren heydon is good for warm fuzzies. - Trish Haley
I can't pick out one specific person. I can name a few names, but there's a specific reason why I am subscribed to every person I am subscribed to. Jandy and Lindsey all kinds of rock, fellow geek chic - so they have to. :P Johnny keeps me cracking up. Zee is my boy for sure, we'd make a ton of trouble if we lived near each other. Monique is straight up, which is win. I can't keep naming people...it would...take up way too much time. I am sure I will though. - Candace

Anika has wonderful, curious kids. - John E. Bredehoft

FF is full of lots of interesting, hilarious, entertaining, and just outstanding individuals.that I look forward to interacting with, many of whom have already been mentioned. yes, even that cilantro lover ;) There's also a fantastic bunch of librarians who hang out here and make me proud to call myself a librarian. yeah, we kinda rule. :) - holly

Josh and Trish and Tina and Yolanda and Derrick and DYSP Steven make me smile and laugh when I need it. I love Akiva for bringing the comedy and the pain. I love Derrick for being as real in the OSH parking lot as he is on FF. I love Monique for being the Pied Piper of the interwebz and helping me recover my sanity. I love James for being so gently poetic. I love Rahsheen for the soft porn videos he always takes in bed. This past week has not been a very good one for me and I might have lost it completely if it hadn't been for Johnny, Steven and Derrick for all dropping their pants for me. I love that there are people on here, that I have never met, that care enough to make me laugh when I am feeling way crappy. <3 And of course there are more, just giving props to those that made me feel better this week :) MWAH! - Penny

I love Chris Weige for keeping art on my mind. I love that the people who subscribe to me give a damn about what I have to say enough to take the time to read me. I'm grateful. - nakachi from fftogo
I had no idea when I started this thread that it would blow up like this. I think this is a clear example of the value of friendfeed: the relationships we build. Sure, we have differing interests, politics, social situations and opinons, but at the end of the day, what we come here for are the people. No one exists in a vacuum, and if they did, they probably wouldn't have a friendfeed... more... - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Shut up, bitch. - Derrick
Just playin'. :) - Derrick

That was a fun night. - DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
not to sound too much like a Mutual Admiration Society, but edythe's feed was what got me hooked on this place. :-D - Karim

Everybody already mentioned in this thread, plus Meryn and Joelle for being really smart and inquisitive about some of things I find particularly interesting, too. Or at least the way they discuss them. Not that I don't think that way about the rest of you, just no one had mentioned them yet. - ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ

May
MWM, this was one of the best FF threads I've ever seen. Sometimes it just needs to reappear. :) #complimentSunday - Laura B.
I didn't see this the first time round either (but it looks like I was in NYC when this was happening). I have friends who I knew before FF for whom friendfeed has allowed me to know better and there are folks like RAP, edythe, and MwM whose posting and conversation have enriched my life and ignited my imagination. Thanks kids. And, of course, I love Sneezy but FF had little to do with that. - Jason Toney
I really admire Kol Tregaskes, he's always informative and gets involved quite a bit with almost everything. Quite the most selfless individual I ever came across on the net :) ... Also Holden Page impresses me everyday because he's a younger individual with tons of interest in several subjects that most older users usually get into, he shows he's not afraid to learn and keep his... more... - Tim Tunnicliff

I can't really say much about anyone specific, other than ya'll are the greatest and have helped amuse me through some very hard times over the past year or so, and a special thanks with much love goes out to Amber, the Random Time Lord for introducing me to FF and for putting up with me for this long. - Tsali, The Native of FF

Just one question, Josh: are you by chance spinning on 9 different Aeron chairs that were a steal after the first dot-com bubble burst? The future of the internets: you're looking at it =) - Micah Wittman
Bingo! - Josh Haley
could anybody describe how to create such a picture? thx - Arnaud Fischer
Arnaud, see http://friendfeed.com/mokarga... for tips. And Josh correct me if I'm wrong, he uploaded to Twitpic the same animated GIF 9 times, then created a friendfeed post and attached all 9 images by URL (instead of choosing images from his hard drive). Images coming from twitpic, soup.io, etc will animate, but photos hosted by friendfeed itself won't. - Micah Wittman
Hahaha, nice :) - Simon Wicks

Why the friendfeed limitation on animated .gifs? It seems arbitrary and odd to me. I could see wanting to limit filesize (animated .gifs can get large) but you can upload huge .jpgs without any trouble. - veo
Mesmerizing like a lava lamp. Hey! You are a 'Lame-o Lamp'! And you might want to call the folks in the makeup department and get that forehead de-sheened. Remember, your forehead is an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle - And you don't want to blind the crew on their final approach, do you? :-) - Morgan Haley

OMG! That should be the next installment at some fluecy deucy art museum!!! AWESOME. :) It's like whack-a-mole... I keep trying to figure out which one will show your face next and for some reason I'm always wrong. - Her Lindsay-ness
Thanks, Lindsay! :) I think that's the first time someone described wanting to systematically hit me on the head repeatedly, yet have it come off as a compliment. I would love to take credit like I was Andy Warhol or something, but alas I was just tired and felt like doing something silly. :p - Josh Haley from iPhone
yep, what Lindsay said. That was one of the first bona-fide instances I've seen of using Friendfeed as a medium for net art. You could get in the Whitney & stuff. GOOD JOB - Kamilah Gill
LOL! I actually didn't mean it the way it came out (the hitting you on the head part, the compliment part is ok ;)). But I'm in tears laughing when I read your reply. Whack-a-mole always frustrated the heck out of me... I did a lot more staring than hitting when I tried to play. It was mesmerizing. - Her Lindsay-ness

PREDICTION: The problem FriendFeed will have is when it will be very popular (mainstream if you want), there will be so much content that you won't be able to see eevrything. A page refresh and tons of content is published. We will for sure miss tons of good stuff.
a page shows say, 30 entries, between two refreshes, say there's 2000 new entries by friends and friends of friends... you see what I mean? - directeur from NoiseRiver
We need some way to lens ACROSS content, to view things based on value / ranking / medium, etc. Already there's more content in even my shallow feed than I can comfortably follow, and few of my friends even use FF. - Alexander Williams from NoiseRiver
One word: BLOCK ;) - Mona Nomura
I expect we'll see more than you realize. Likes and Comments keep stuff bouncing to the top until you get a chance to see it. - Hutch Carpenter
I'm liking and commenting just to bounce ya twice. ;) - Internet's Tad
Best guess is that hyper growth is already being foreseen with numerous solutions. These guys are good! - Charlie Anzman
only if you subscribe to everybody under the sun. I'm sure scoble aleady has that problem here and on twitter - Brett Kelly
Block and Hide aren't nearly good enough for the things I want to do when updates hit several tens per second. I, really, want things like Boolean filters of near arbitrary complexity, feedback learning, and flexible presentation ranking, just to stay sane. - Alexander Williams from NoiseRiver
I'm telling you guys - Lindsay totally pegged it. FF is the site that just DEMANDS an Intelligent Agent to sift through the volcanic soil to expose the rough diamonds. If the FF devs have half a brain, they have a genius or two slaving away on that right now. - Internet's Tad
I agree, lots of stuff falls through the cracks through out the day. I think the 'best of' was added for this reason. I haven't really used it that much though. - Tsega Dinka
but all the good stuff is reshared... personally my eyes are trained to scan content quickly and efficiently. it weeds out what i'm interested in and not. if all else fails, there's always the "BLOCK" or "HIDE" options... - Mona Nomura
Resharing is data-cluttering, as I see it. I want a system that unifies references to URLs, for one. It tells me where that reference is made from (Rooms, friends, likes, whatnot), but only gives me a single thing to look out for any given referent. The actual rest of info is just useful metadata for building lenses out of. - Alexander Williams from NoiseRiver
You ask the wrong question with your prediction my multi-lingual friend -- the question is not whether we will see too much, but whether we will see enough? FriendFeed (with or without NoiseRiver) is an extremely good model for seeing "enough". NoiseRiver will allow the "noise lovers" to see even more :-) - Robert Seidman
As more people join, simply being good at managing who you follow will be more important and should keep the noise down. - Martin Bryant
Surely people like Robert Scoble are already at that level, he manages fine! - Joe Dawson
Joe's right. Bring it on! - Robert Scoble
Especially if one uses small screens and apps like twhirl to view the feed... - Henk de Kruyff from twhirl
We'll just need a CloseFriendFinder app to sit on top of FriendFinder - Craig Thomler
I don't see the problem if there is the right method to represent the contnet, in a away that the fruition of it by the user would be easier... - Edoardo Piccolotto from twhirl
Yes. There is the potential for much more clutter here than twitter, for example. FF needs enhanced filtering tools. - Ian Fogg
It's already happening for me. Need tags. Plus likes and comments only go so far. What if I like stuff only a few others like? How do I find that? - Larry Huffman
if more of my friends were on FF I wouldn't be subscribed to so many people I don't know - Samuel Bostock
the average user isn't going to be subscribed to that many people. and the mainstream will be much less "active" in terms of generating content than the hardcore early adopters. In short, I don't buy the argument. - Jamie
The average user doesn't use the majority of features present on mobile phones. In Portugal owning a expensive phone is a status statement, but most of them could use the cheapest mobile in term of features used. With software and web services it's the same, people use just a subset of the features, and they have to be in front of them. Power users and all it's likes and dislikes are useful to test the limits of a application, but besides that are not the voice of God. - Mário Pires
This is where the top posts of the day/week/month will come into play. I sure that someone will comment or like a post before it flits away. It does bear consideration though, put some brakes on the speed of posting perhaps? - Mathew A. Koeneker from fftogo
Maybe a combo of FriendFeed and Digg? people could set to only receive posts with X number of likes/comments...or based on the rep of the person posting... - Craig Thomler
If i could create "groups" of people by subjects relevant to me perhaps it would be more manageable. - Mário Pires
so there will be meta services (think summize). Cool. no problemo. - john conroy
Just look at the Everyone feed. Only imagine articles with 1,000 likes (ala Digg) and 500 comments (ala slashdot). Some people may want the raw feeds, we'll need new filters/views/trails/signposts/guides/topics etc... - Mitchell Tsai
@Mario Agree. GM script for Friends / Groups http://ffapps.com/filters/ - Hao Chen
I think we'll just end up hiding a lot more stuff - Shey, Jamaican of FF
I have the feeling that the FF staff will roll with the punches. Scalability! - Steve Isaacs
@Robert Scoble: you WON'T be able to manage that noise. It's simply a mathematical fact. Say, you see 30 post, and between two refreshes, 20.000 entries are posted. The next page will show the last 30 of these 20.000 new entries. You will miss the entries in between. Liking or commenting from FOAF won't help. Because the flow will run... fast. - directeur from NoiseRiver
Prescient in Twitter's case. For awhile it was so for FF too. I don't know about now however; things are slower. - Maxamad
Phew! Who bumped this??! :) - directeur
That would be me sir. - Maxamad
Hi, mohomed! That's so old, how did you find it? :) - directeur
I was looking for a post with an mp3 attached to it from awhile ago that I needed, but couldn't find it. It's some soft of new jazz from Turkey. A bald guy with blue was attached as an image holding some sort of instrument. But I stumbled across a bunch of good other old posts. - Maxamad
Could it be Mercan Dede? - directeur
You continue to amaze me monsieur http://friendfeed.com/directe... Thanks so much! - Maxamad
Thank you! Tout le plaisir est pour moi, Dhanaan! :) - directeur

ffcheck Bookmarklet - http://ffcheck.com
ffcheck Bookmarklet
The ffcheck bookmarklet gives you a quick way to find out if there are any existing items on FriendFeed related to the web page you're viewing. Simply drag the bookmarklet onto your bookmarks toolbar, then whenever you click the link a list of FriendFeed items will be overlaid onto the page you're viewing. - Ken Sheppardson from Bookmarklet
coooooooooool - Dobromir Hadzhiev
perfect! - Patrik Johansson
is there a way to go through my contacts only? - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Dobromir: Not that I know of. It's not authenticating at all, i.e. it has no idea who you are. In fact, you don't even need to be a FF user to use it. I don't know if the API allows you to retrieve a filtered list. - Ken Sheppardson
Also, that sort of circumvents the intent. [ Well.. my intent at least :-) ] The idea is to promote discovery and connect you with folks you might not know otherwise. Rather than have 30+ people all start threads on an item (as shown in the screen shot), this lets you join the existing conversation instead of resharing something. Your Like or Comment will put it in your followers' stream without you having to reshare it. - Ken Sheppardson
so I though, I asked because feedly can do something very similar, but again it searches the whole friendfeed instead of the users home feed, anyway cool enough :-) - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Just made a quick fix. Should work with Chrome now. - Ken Sheppardson
Brilliant thanks, Chrome needs it :) - M F
Another fix, and it works on Safari as well (all on Windows XP). IE7's being a bit more temperamental... - Ken Sheppardson
took me a minute to find the close 'button' maybe also a [X] in the upper right? - Chris Heath
Chris: Yeah, Micah suggested that earlier today. Just swapped the [close] out for an [x] in the upper right. - Ken Sheppardson
cool... i like ... this bookmarklet will come in handy - good work @kshep! - Chris Heath
I just grabbed ffcheck.com and moved this over to http://ffcheck.com, so if anyone is so inclined they can delete the bookmarklet that points to kshep.net and grab it again from there. - Ken Sheppardson
sweet! - laura
Great tool for discovering other FFers who are interested in a topic. You can click on entries within the page ffcheck produces. Or you can print the page. Well done, Ken Sheppardson. - Polly Potter
Thanks for posting this. It will come in useful to see who else on FF is talking about a link I find interesting. BTW, I like it better than the Feedly function. - Alexander Grundner
[edited] FF Share code can be found here: http://chrisheath.us/friendf... (this can also be found on friendfeed itself) - Chris Heath
[edited] FF Check code can be found here as well: http://chrisheath.us/friendf... (also can be found at http://ffcheck.com thanks to Ken) - Chris Heath
to clarify: the FF Share is the bookmarklet that the ff team developed (i guess) and the 'FF Check' is Ken's great bookmarklet - Chris Heath
and don't you love it when the code doesn't really make it in the comment box? - Chris Heath
ok so i went thru the trouble to make a page with both ff bookmarklets on it - totally 1990's html but here goes anyways: http://chrisheath.us/friendf... - Chris Heath
not sure why i did all that or when thru the 'trouble' to do it... if you're reading this years from now don't expect my links to be valid - Chris Heath
Does ffcheck still work? Just asking because I haven't gotten it to work in a few days, even after dumping cache (which usually fixes weird transient JS errors.) - Andrew C
I hope so. It's still useful to me. kshep, did you intentionally pull it down? ffcheck.com/javascript/ is 404'ing. Also is the code here: http://userscripts.org/scripts... a current or an old version? - Micah Wittman
No, I didn't pull it down... it's needed two clicks in my dev channel version of Chrome to work, but other than that it was cranking away... or so I thought... let me take a look... - Ken Sheppardson
nice! - .LAG liked that
Should be back. Sorry about that. - Ken Sheppardson
I should note that in Chrome 4 (My default browser...I'm on the dev branch) you have to click the bookmarklet twice. I've been putting off resolving that in the ffcheck code, but it's probably time to dig into it. - Ken Sheppardson
Great! Thanks, Ken. - Micah Wittman
The code at userscripts.org is pretty old. I branched off from that for the version that's hosted at ffcheck.com. As it says in the "About" page there on userscripts, it really just demonstrates how the API works. Honestly, I haven't touched this in forever. Y'all are going to make me try to remember how it works, aren't you? :-) - Ken Sheppardson
I always thought it should be a core part of the tool because it worked so well, too many fragmented discussions get started without it!! - Chris Myles
I think that in chrome you've had to click twice for a long while... since version 2 of chrome or something (i think) - oh and if you do mess with the code a bit of animation would be nice while it's loading... even if it's the most simple of blinking periods - just to indicate that it is working and not stuck - Chris Heath
Thanks Ken! - Andrew C
