"Probably go something like this... "Hello?" "Hello, we are calling from the planet Earth!" "I give at the office and you're interrupting my dinner" click"

"What's so funny? He is. Too much so IMO. I like art and emotion - his stuff is too minimal and rigid. Perhaps it is because he isn't an actual designer? He has great sway over what many designers do though so the comment isn't that far off."

"Wrong. Brand doesn't come before usability. If your brand impedes usability then you need to rethink the brand. I understand the desire to look like a bargain table. Same reason Walmart looks like a warehouse - but even they are using interior design to make shopping a better experience: http://blog.macleans.ca/2008... ... Highly usable sites can be minimal but still have a design for purpose... ask Jacob Nielsen."

"A truly humbling collection of important thinkers of our race. We owe a lot to those men. (Hopefully some women will appear on the list soon.)"

"There is a fuzzy line between plug-in and apps. Both are complied code that performs functions. If you think of FF as a platform then a plug in is an app. There is no way they could enforce exclusive access like the iphone so many plugins would remain free. FTA "It's OK that Mozilla has chosen not to cash in on Firefox or its platform. But why hasn't anyone else stepped up?" This implies the app store would be in addition to the current selection."

"Kleiner Perkins invests $100M in iPhone apps and people think there isn't a market for plugins? Firefox has a far broader installed base then the iPhone and the platform is free. You get what you pay for and the bulk of FF extensions are crap or useless bulk. The ideas he suggests even sound convincing. No one is suggesting all of them will be for money but the quality and power could certainly use the boost."

"Your willingness to pay for these (which I would too) is proof people are willing to pay for good software still. It also points to the fact software with bigger and broad based appeal would be feasible."
