What is the advantage of doing that? I have a fairly restricted set of stuff I can do on my web host and zero desire to maintain this or spend more than 5 minutes setting it up. Is it philosophical or do I gain something tangible for running my own?
- Dave Slusher
I'll set up myopenid.com and claimid.com tonight. I'd do it right now but I'd rather not do such a thing over grocery store wifi.
- Dave Slusher
Wordpress.com provides OpenID, and chances are you have an account there for akismet spam filtering
- Dom Barnes
Dom, I did not realize that. If I can use an account I already have, that's better to me than creating a new one.
- Dave Slusher
myopenid allows you to cname one of your own domains (myopenid.kurtiss.org in my case). i thought that would be a huge win, because i could swap out providers or host my own, whenever. however, i've noticed most (or maybe all) authenticating parties store the *.myopenid.com address to which my cname resolves. this may actually be necessary to be secure, but i found it unexpected.
- Kurtiss Hare
@Kurtiss, I believe Dave uses OpenID delegation like I do, so you already get the ability to use your own domain. You put some bits in your site's header info, and the OpenID provider gets picked up automatically, and you can swap out providers, etc...that's the exact use case for delegation. My openid url is ken.kennedy.myopenid.com, but the URL I actually give everyone is kenzoid.com. It's very handy!
- Ken Kennedy
Sorry for the posting delay. I got distracted by work. The only real advantage I can think of to hosting everything myself is that I don't ever have to think about it again. I don't have to worry that my provider is going to shut down or get bought by a company that wigs me out or swap in a weird draconian TOS. If I ever switch hosts, I'll have to remember to copy a directory; but since...

maybe I didn't get FriendFeed blocked on my company proxy after all. I accidentally clicked a link and it worked. Must have just been weirdness last week + my guilty conscience.

On the left is Firefox on Windows XP. On the right is Firefox on OS X. Same laptop screen. This is why I feel yucky when I have to work in Windows now. Granted, I don't have ClearType installed on the Windows side. But it doesn't make things THAT much better. IE7 is even worse.
- Paul Reynolds
Pay no mind to what that text actually says, I'm still editing it :o)
- Paul Reynolds
I thought Firefox did its own text rendering regardless of the OS. Hmm. This clearly shows that I was wrong.
- James (@willia4)
Meanwhile, I'm missing out on low priced commodity hardware and a large selection of game titles. (Figured I'd beat any Windows zealots to the punch)
- Paul Reynolds
I have noticed things are a lot clearer on my MBP than on my PC. Font and graphics-wise. It's refreshing.
- Araceli
Araceli - Yeah. OS X's text rendering is a trillion miles ahead of anything out of Redmond.
- James (@willia4)
My fonts are on Vista and they look TONS better than what you are seeing. ClearType DOES make a huge difference to me. I can't use a computer without it. Reminds me too much of 1994.
- Robert Scoble
Hell, I'd even take XP in VMWare over an actual PC any day
- Dom Barnes
Why is there a fuzz filter on the one to the right? How annoying. :)
- Daniel Bruce
Maybe I've been in glasses too long, but the OSX displays always make me feel like my eyes are out of focus...
- Alex Conner
wrong use of "you're" in the "If you don't understand these guidelines" paragraph. Should be "your"
- Imabug
I have to say I far prefer the non-cleartype one. Is something wrong with me? =p
- Daniel Bruce
imo, this discussion is of... dubious value. 1.) most folks would prefer the rendering that they're most familiar with- personally, I prefer the vista/ff rendering, and find the osx rendering artificially bold. 2.) the exact clear type (or osx font rendering) settings is hardware dependant. what looks great on your monitor may end up looking crappy when screenshotted and displayed on my monitor, due to things like pixel ordering, DPI, resolution, screen technology, etc.
- Chris Hollander
This, this right here, beautiful text rendering, is the one single reason I'm lusting after OS X. Safari on windows has the OS X style rendering, so it's possible on windows; just that Msoft has adopted clarity over font smoothing. Joel from Fogcreek has a good article detailing how the company philosophy is reflected in the font smoothing choices: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items...
- vijay
I went from programming full time (a heavy text reading occupation) exclusively on Windows for 8 years to OS X and it was something to get used to... it seemed blurry. But now Windows feels to aliased and clunky to me.
- Paul Reynolds
How does it look on Linux? ;) When I first moved to the Mac, the fonts did feel slightly blurry, but they feel perfect now. Depends on what you've been used to.
- Paul Grav
If that's all I'm missing then I'm pretty sure I'll survive. I can adjust my fonts in windows, turn off cleartype or turn it back on, so it'll be ok.
- Jason Shultz
from twhirl
I love my Mac, but I still have trouble stomaching it's font antialiasing. ClearType++.
- Evan Sims
At first I thought the point was showing that based on browser/OS sniffing, the Baker's Dog website WAS charging $4.95 to Windows customers and WAS NOT charging Mac visitors at all! Then I realized the same text flowed differently and was outside the screenshot. Now that would have been a new kind of Windows tax.
- Micah Wittman
Hrmm... Micah... the wheels are turning. Maybe a discount if you're using Firefox (read: not IE) to buy your dog treats? :oB
- Paul Reynolds
C'mon, XP is a trillion years old. Get Win7 and enjoy it's nice font smoothing. And here's a great article for those who is praising Mac font rendering: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items.... Mac and Win font rendering mechanisms both have advantages, Mac is more print-optimised, while Win is screen-optimised.
- Kirill Petrovsky
You only need to activate ClearType and the page looks like it should. And yes, it makes a difference...
- Flynn (Michael A. Volz)
so...we're supposed to spend $500 more for a computer that renders texts differently? I think I'll use ClearType or other fonts on Windows and treat myself to another tech gadget.
- brainno722 (Peter)

The operative word for this podcast is......"MINDBLOWING"
- TWITsuperfan
The best part about early Macbreak Weekly's was the chemistry between Merlin and Andy. Glad to see him back. I think Merlin by himself gets a little grating, it's why I never much liked "You Look Nice Today".
- Ron
A return to great discussions and ego-less arguments. Much better
- Stuart Paul McCann
Regarding the Attention feature in NNW, how is it different from Google Reader trends? Should I be using NNW's Attention rather than GReader's trends? Hopefully no one else covered this in a previous comment.
- Sam
Its a nice looking app. Would have loved something like this when I was still in school. It would be nice to see some sort of server base where a school to advertise the assignments due. Still, very well designed.

Item 1: Is Microsoft screwed? There's a lot of silliness going around that the era of Microsoft is over I looked into this and contrary to public perception, Microsoft's approach to cloud computing is a winning strategy Open your eyes: We may never have the same single vendor issue in the PC industry, but Microsoft will remain viable if not dominant in the future This was the subject of...

Never tried these "rooms" before. This is pretty neat.
- Daniel Drake
Agreed - would be good to be able to work out how to get the video with this friendfeed in the same browser window. Anyone know if that is possible?
- Kris Chaplin
Interesting idea, Kris. it's very possible to have the non live version in here, such as a youtube video. But live? That might require some FF innovation, and now that FF belongs to FB, dunno.
- Charles LePage
Unless Microsoft come out with a strategy to move Windows from Intel to ARM, or other truely mobile embedded platform, I dont see them being dominant any more as a consumer OS in the next 10 years. Interesting times, I think it is cloud and enterprise focus or bust for Microsoft!
- Kris Chaplin
Paul's voice always reminds me of Keith Olberman.
- Jim Graham
Is it right that Windows 7 does not come with a email client? That seems ridiculous. How come Paul is up in arms about the EU decision forcing users to download a browser but hasn't criticised MS for stripping out a key aspect of the OS for many users?
- bobrudge
How many consumer still use a desktop client for e-mail though? Isn't it more of a cloud-based thing for most non-enterprise users?
- Angelo Stavrow
One thing that Apple may have done in the new context is Apple realizing they're a hardware business and only charging $29 for Snow Leopard. If they only charged $29 for every software company they're no longer trying to make money on the OS. Microsoft doesn't have that freedom, but they may need to rethink in ways like that.
- Dan Ficker
I know people who prefer a desktop email client, but I always steer them to Thunderbird.
- Charles LePage
And I would always steer people toward Firefox but it doesn't stop Paul being outraged at the removal of IE which I think we can all agree is dreadful. Windows Mail was fine and I know many, entry level users who use Outlook Express/Mail for their email. Without it they'd struggle for offline access.
- bobrudge
I think damn cheap netbooks with integrated browsers such as firefox etc are going to dominate in the next few years, so cloud, yes, but I foresee a gradual decline of windows in the domestic market.
- Kris Chaplin
"fast followers" save so much on R&D and risk - bleeding edge is painful
- Kris Chaplin
With early market leaders not making it..what does that say for the patent system? Are the vanished innovators sitting back reaping their well earned rewards or battling in court?..or?
- Dale
Perhaps Linux isn't so much an "experience" as Windows or Mac OS.
- Daniel Drake
I know almost nothing about Mac OSs. But, Linux installations, for me, always require much more work to get to a usable point than Windows installations. I always find some hardware driver issue, or a software issue, with Linux. But XP and 7 have worked extremely well wherever I have placed them.
- Charles LePage
Paul is so good at this, he is crushing Leo's argument :D
- Mark
It's ok Leo, you can talk about global warming. ;)
- Daniel Drake
If this question was posed on TWiG or MBW, the snark level would have been through the roof.
- Adi
Global warming is my fault. I did it. And there's nothing you can do to fix it. BWAHAHA
- Charles LePage
I just built an HTPC on an Ion-ITX. Started with UBuntu 9.04. It was sluggish and could not get drivers to work for all features of the board. Windows 7? Installed flawlessly, all features work, and it responds faster than Ubuntu.
- Brian Merriman
He's not crushing Leo's argument. It's a mirror of this week's MacBreak Weekly in which Apple apologists defended Apple to the hilt through one-eyed praise. Much as Paul is defending MS by saying most of what they're doing is brilliant, which is questionable at best
- bobrudge
will people really care what OS they are running, if everything is in the cloud?
- Kris Chaplin
Outstanding, Brian. To me, Ubuntu works well where it is designed to. Windows OSs seem to work well even when you don't expect them to. Which is probably due to the years Microsoft has spent working very hard to not leave anyone or anything behind.
- Charles LePage
Not sure I agree with Paul's argument, don't know why but his main argument seems to be is Microsoft has been successful because it has been and so it will continue to be
- Kim Landwehr
I doubt cloud computing will really take off until web connection no matter where you are becomes the norm.
- Jovanni Bello
I don't think "everything" will ever be in the cloud. Think business users such as CAD users.
- David
If all you do is read email and web pages, the cloud is fine. For everyone else, you will need more than just the cloud.
- Charles LePage
I hate the idea that 'everything' is going to be in the cloud, it's ridiculous. We'd need universal open access super-fast broadband for it to be even conceivable. Am I expected to have my movies and games stored online and streamed?
- bobrudge
I use my zune daily, haven't used my ipod nano in at least 6 months
- Ryan
I only use my ipod nano because no one has bought me a Zune yet. :(
- Charles LePage
We love the Zune... One 80G and two 120G in this house...thinking on the HD. Sold my iPod Classic to get the Zune.
- Brian Merriman
I have the original 30 myself. What I loved was the fact the software updates were free and applied to the first gen as well. That and the zune software on Windows>>>>iTunes.
- Adi
Are the ODTV twit broadcasts available in the Zune podcast marketplace?
- Charles LePage
Leo MUST have noticed this show gets some of the most engagement on Friendfeed than other TWiT shows
- Mark
Well people listening live to Windows Weekly are quite likely to have a Zune aren't they, at least in comparison to general takeup. If you lot aren't buying one, then no one is.
- bobrudge
leo's still at the top of a google screw you mike search. it's practically a cliche now that i'm tired of hearing... but it's "legacy" (heh, fancy that)

Item 3: Microsoft and Nokia What this means And why I think Office on the iPhone and Google phones is inevitable Remember "knifing the baby"? This is it, and Microsoft does this all the time

- Tobias Sundstrand
It took Apple how many iterations before iPod was Windows compatible and it didn't have 3% marketshare.
- Adi
I want a drobo, but i have no money left from buying a scottevest jacket that Leo recomended
- Tobias Sundstrand
@Adi He means Apple doesn't have the marketshare to care if Mac users use a Zune or not. Meaning, Apple had to make the iPod Windows compatible since Windows has the majority marketshare
- DeskTube
Paul just mentioned Microsoft Exchange as an example of interoperability. I support Exchange for one of my clients and I think it is very limited in it's interoperability.
- Matthew Schrock
When I've used Spinrite, it has insisted on booting to the CD, and I don't think a computer that a Drobo is connected to will see the Drobo before booting into Windows.
- Charles LePage
Item 5: Zune HD Coming September 15 You can preorder today 16 GB is black only (during preorder), $220 32 GB is platinum only (during preorder), $300 - both MUCH cheaper than iPod touch If you wait, you can choose between several colors Looks good
- Leo Laporte
Do you think not having a camera on the zune hd is going to hurt it ?
- Kashif Khan
have they got a sdhc socket in the side? That would be a neat expansion feature
- Kris Chaplin
Can the Zune HD be used as a PDA? That is, does it have an address book and calendar that can be synced with a PC?
- Dale Feinstein
I'm surprised that it doesn't do flash even with Tegra under the hood.
- Adi
I've never been able to get my 80GB Zune to sync over WiFi -- probably due to my GRC perfect passwords WPA passphrase.

Hang on Paul, my phone's ringing...

Item 6: Upgrading to Windows 7 vs. Migrating Are Windows XP users getting the shaft? Sort of. But two things 1) This isn't "news" - I documented this process back in May 2) Contrary to the conventional wisdom, this doesn't affect a big group of people

I wonder why they bought them. Hadn't they pretty much ripped off the basics? Are they just buying up the developers? At least Twitter didn't buy them, I guess.
- Paul Reynolds
Very worried that they're buying the developers. "Friendfeed.com will operate normally for the time being" is not a vote of confidence in the service's future, and that's a bloody shame.
- Jared Smith
Agreed, Dave...I'm feeling the icy winds of "I Want Sandy" down my back. I suspect that "for the time being" isn't going to be too long at all.
- Ken Kennedy
I'm gutted by it. I always liked friendfeed, and was hoping to make an iPhone app for it. Guess I'll quit that idea now. I already see that FB is very similar to FF so I can't see what features they would be able to integrate that aren't already there. Perhaps its just for the developers, rather than the product.
- Dom Barnes
Liking without having listened yet, but sounds like it should be great.
- Neil Saunders
Not up on iTunes yet... I guess I will subscribe later!
- Alex Morrison
The show was great. Just watched it on odtv.me. Gina was awesome. (I love Lifehacker.) I have an idea for the next show. On Lifehacker, Gina made a post called "The Hidden Risks of Cloud Computing". Check it out: http://lifehacker.com/5325169.... You could talk a lot about that one. ;)
- Barry Nolette
TWiT network is kicking some ass. This is going to be a really good show if it remains this dense and substantial.
- Christopher A Carr
Thanks Christopher! It takes a day or two for the iTunes feed to go public. Meanwhile you can add it manually to iTunes with the following URL: http://leo.am/podcasts/twig Thanks for listening!
- Leo Laporte
I would add it to iTunes, Leo, but I never use that crappy, glorified storefront bloat-ware (#1 reason I don't have an iPhone). ;-) Keep up the good work.

Thank you Dane Golden for this new show.
- shelter watch
Great show! You will always have content.

Great idea. Should be a good podcast. I follow all of google on twitter, but i would love to listen to it more than read it.
- Ray H
Am liking the first episode of This Week in Google, I just wish it was called something else. Firstly, there is already a TWiG, or at least there was, plus it puts too much emphasis on the news side of the cloud computing revolution, where Leo, Gina and Jeff say they want to discuss other cloud stuff, and hints, tips and ways to use the tools.
- Dom Barnes
TWIG name is already taken in iTunes store!
- Stephan Romeo
the concept of developing open source or content for the android reminds me of "The Go-Giver". While freely giving, it's a profitable way to live and see what business comes back. @LeoLaporte - it's a great short book in Audible ;-) Read by the authors @BobBurg & @johndavidmann personally too
- Courtney Engle
Thanks for the PubSubHubbub mention!
- Brett Slatkin
Wow, that is great news. Though I was looking forward to what Opera would say when their market share didn't go up.
- Steve de Mena
from twhirl
The tides have certainly turned....I am not convinced though that the solution will see any major Market share increase for Opera or Firefox. That's not to say they don't have a good product, but the novices out there are just not really up on them; so will most likely stick with what they know - for better or worse.
- Clifford Kennedy
Personally, I feel that Microsoft should be heavily encouraged to run rampant in the EU, It's in the US I want them to be tied down and nailed to thee floor in. :-)
- Car Camper
The whole case shows the EU is off it's meds again. But at least awareness of different browsers will increase.
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
I sure as hell want that I get my full retail package for the upgrade price. Whether it is 7E or not. And for the record, the EU can do whatever the hell it likes, I couldn't care less if IE was included.
- Jody Fanning
In a comment, I refered to the high level of drama iPhone users have with the phone as a "Sid Vicious/Nancy Spungen" relationship. "I love you more than anything!" "I stab you, you junkie skank!"
I'd agree with that. I am an iPhone user and it bugs me how up-in-arms people get over stuff like the Google Voice apps.
- Dom Barnes
It also bugs me how much the media focus on it, Like the SMS exploit, even though Nokia, WinMo and Android were all subject to recent exploits, none of them got nearly as much publicity, despite the face that Nokia has about 50% of the mobile market (so I heard somewhere)
- Dom Barnes
"Cool. I couldn't find anything myself so built this quick and dirty tool. I guess I should add stuff to install it in the Applications folder too."
- Dom Barnes
I think in a Starbucks so full there is nowhere to sit, keeping your backpack in the chair is the height of douchebaggery. Dude, you should not have to be asked about this. You are breaking the social contract about being polite, maybe I should break the one about not hitting you in the face with a pool cue.
I always wondered about that on public trains/trams... does anybody ever actually say anything to those people or do we all just glare and sneer?
- Paul Reynolds
@Paul - on my commuter train, we said something -- or just move people's stuff to their feet if they were sleeping. There was no standing allowed on the train, so there was a lot of incentive to get people to shift over.
- Jennifer Dittrich
I had already decided not to sit inside since it was unpleasantly crowded and noisy. I'd have asked for the chair if I wanted to sit inside, and if he had said no, I'd have said "Dude, that was just a formality to be polite. I'm taking the chair either way."
- Dave Slusher
Kinda bugs me when people sit in the aisle, and won't actually get up to let you in to the seat next to them, they just kinda swivel in place. That doesn't help much. As you put it, douchebags
- Dom Barnes
While HelloTxt seems like a good idea, here on FriendFeed, we just got multiple entries for this. As Apple would say, "duplicates functionality"

Monday is my day to dick around with things. It's not unusual to see strange things in my feed on Mondays!
- Leo Laporte
Leo you could make talking about Goat Herding interesting, I love TWiT!!!

Pretty crazy considering how low it is outside the city limits by comparison. I'm going to the City Council meeting tomorrow. I'm hoping to run into McBride so I sign his "No Ad Tax" petition and post it in my store as well.
- Paul Reynolds
Use this as a meme: "God only asks for 10%."
- Dave Slusher
It doesn't actually make that much sense, but memes don't have to.
- Dave Slusher
Looks like I will have to take a little longer on lunch so I can drive out out the city limits.
- Andre Pope
One aspect they never seem to look at is individuals. It is always tourist, business owners, etc. But what about the individual worker? How many are employed in the city limits. How many go out to eat on their lunch break? How many run errands? On the surface it might not look like much money but if you factor all the things people do while they are at work in the city it really adds...

Hate to point out that UK sales tax, aka VAT, is usually 17.5%, more recently cut to 15% to help during the recession.

Glad to see Latitude come to fruition finally. This was inevitable after Latitude appeared on mobile iGoogle. I'd like to see this in the Google Mobile App so hopefully Apple will lighten their obvious stance on this in the future.
- Dom Barnes
Woo for a new show. Your dulcet tones have been missing from my earbuds for too long. Glad you found time to do one, although I realise you've been mega-busy.
- Dom Barnes
Actually, it's not a new show. It's a repurposed episode of Thomas Gideon's Command Line podcast, a Balticon session on which I was a panelist.
- Dave Slusher
Yeah. Pass me the douche hat. Just realised that.
- Dom Barnes
Well, my dulcet tones are on it. No hat needed.
- Dave Slusher
@jcunwired: I played with a Pre. It's nice. iPhone will kick it's ass. Frankly, so will the new BB's which is what Palm seems to be targeting.
- Adam C.
When did you place your 3G S order? I put mine in to Apple on June 10th, and it's not showing as shipped yet; trying to judge how fast they're processing...
- Paul Skudlarek
Mine was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Checked again this morning and it changed to Thursday.. Let's see if it changes again to Friday.
- Rick Huizinga
iPhone will undoubtedly kick its ass, at some point in the future. The delta is too small between Pre and 3G S to warrant an ass-whooping.
- jcunwired
Lucky you, we can't preorder in Canada :(
- Ray Slakinski
Uh, not sure displaying your tracking number is a good idea. That's about all it takes when requesting a package redirection - and that's pretty tempting!
- Anil Rhemtulla
Mine says it will arrive on the 17th, which is tomorrow. I don't know how, since it hasn't left china yet
- Nate T
I'm scheduled for delivery on the 18th... order placed June 8th. God... sounds like a baby... Cheers
- Ross W. Prout
Ordered mine on the 8th and no shipping notice yet. :-\ As for iPhone vs Pre, it'll take awhile to fully see how the apps change the Pre since that's the iPhone's key right now for me.
- Ken Chan
When can we stop calling these phones?
- David J Lowe
I'm taking a chance and heading to the Birmingham Apple Store Friday morning to get mine. Hope they have enough.
- Dom Barnes
Gonna pick up my pre-ordered one at the "T-Punkt" T-Mobile store here in Germany on Friday. Picked the same You did, unless You chose the white one, that is. Personally I especially can't wait for the tomtom car navigation set with exta speaker and GPS enhancer to finally come out - it's gonna be so awesome!

That's awesome Leo. My 3G will have to suffice though. Still looking forward to 3.0

I'm really not understanding the i-phone thing. Frankly, I think the phone sucks. I hate the keyboard touch, I can't imagine a woman in this country with a decent manicure wanting to deal with that crappy screen! I have service at home with Verizon in the countryside where we live, my husband's crappy I-Phone drops out about ten miles from the house and not only that, the piece of crap is constantly dropping phone calls. Is the bay area better?
- Jennifer Ragde
I love toys as well, I'm just not getting the I-phone thing, I have a DS, PSP, I'm a seriously geek game girl, just not getting that horrible phone. I can't be the only girl that thinks that touch screen is completely awful! The touch screen is so sensitive, if you have fingernails, good luck!
- Jennifer Ragde
To counter the hate mail (and I'm sure you get more fan mail than hate mail): this episode was particularly funny. I tend to look at TWiT as more of a variety show with great tech commentary these days (because I get a lot of the news from other podcasts earlier in the week.)
- Tyler Ham
TWiT isn't just talking heads, they are people. I like listening to people talk about the topics I'm interested in.
- Johnny Worthington
I agree, Tyler. I also think that there was a tech agenda, and Dvorak crapped al over it with his distaste for all things Twitter.
- Chip Duford
OH! and his love for all things female.
- Chip Duford
I am really enjoying these mostly live TWiT's. Its partly the much warmer sound quality, and partly because there is not constant talking over each other that you get from Skype.

Ugggh, this was the least productive TWIT I've heard in years. Leo & Dvorack were very rude to the girls and talked over them at every chance. I counted 50+ sentences that they started but were cut-off. I'm so frustrated that I didn't get any news.

What are the odds of getting Merlin back on the show?

All: The popout video function (in Firefox) from live.twit.tv hasn't worked for me the past couple weeks. Anyone else having this issue from Firefox?

I don't think I've heard any disappointment with O2 as iPhone carrier in the UK. I'm certainly happy with them.

Would a CDMA phone work outside the US? I don't think it would work in Europe. So no travel for Verizon iPhones!
- Thobias Vemmenby
If Verizon gets the iPhone, I won't be able to pay the $200.00 per iPhone to get out of my AT&T contract fast enough

Verizon wont build a tower for the 20 square miles where we dont have their coverage. AT&T put up a tower within 3 months after we requested(we=citizen petitions to both carriers)

The iPod Nano took longer to be introduced after the iPod Classic. An iphone nano, yes, but not yet.

Visual VoiceMail is a deal breaker for me. It is soooo handy.

The BIGGEST FEATURE of new iPhone is not the iPhone itself - it's the fact that you will be able to use it as an interface for other devices. In my opinion.

I love my BB Bold but would get an Iphone if my carrier brings 3g here
