Google is rolling out 8 other search options which should be available to everyone at some point today. Those include the ability to search within a specific date range, shopping site filters, a visited pages filter, and an option to see only results from Google’s book, blog, and news search tools.

Now if you could actually pull that off it would be one helluva story - one for the ages. My cousin works security. Might be able to pull it off.

I only wonder if it works without any lens extra because the iPhone is not very good at macro shots. The captured card doesn't show any distortion and is very sharp. Too good to be real ...
- Donald Townsend
I would think it would best if you have a Griffin Clarifi case on so you can take cleaner close up pictures - it helped with getting better snaps of Barcodes for a barcode search app I use.

"Gizmodo first alerted us to this story. A very ingenious astrophotographer, Thierry Legault, has taken the first image of the Space Shuttle Atlantis and the Hubble Space Telescope as they transited the sun - and he used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II to make the image. As it turns out, he’s also famous for photographing the International Space Station (ISS) as it too crossed the face of the sun (see more below) with the Canon EOS 5D. You’ve got to read the details below about how little time he had to capture this spectacle!"

My number one request for FriendFeed right now? Give me this same feature for *Flickr.* Would love to be able to find more of my Flickr contacts who are on FriendFeed. Even better, give me the same Yahoo mail / Gmail functionality to invite my flickr contacts to FF via the Flickrmail system.
I know that many of my Flickr contacts are on here that I'm not even aware of. Monitoring their photos and faves via FriendFeed is vastly superior to Flickr's own "most recent contact photos" page. I wish I could add more of them. Photos are my favorite thing on FF.
- Thomas Hawk
I know that the vast majority of my Flickr contacts are *not* on FF -- but really *should* be on FF. If FF could use the Flickr API to allow me to invite all of them via flickrmail to my FF (like Yahoo mail and Gmail) this would be huge in making FF even that much better for me. I so wish more of them were on here. There are so many amazing Flickr photographers that could add so much to FF.
- Thomas Hawk
Yes please, I am way more interested in seeing new images than seeing tweets show up in 2 places.

Kinda shocked the CEO of Zooomr doesn't also suggest Zooomr
- dbcohen
There are a lot of possibilities. I would love to be able to filter people based on their feeds, and groups for example. Like searching for people who have imported their flickr stream into friendfeed and who is also a member of the 'Tech Bloggers' group. Basically I would love to see them improve the way we discover people on friendfeed. Simply being able to search by netwwork would be amazing. Like tell friendfeed to list all my contacts who are also on delicious!
- Kasper Sorensen
Zooomr would be great too. But Zooomr is a far smaller service. I have a list for all Zooomr content on FF and that is manageable just with a list right now. Flickr is not. Since Zooomr basically uses Flickr's API though I'd think that if it could be done for Flickr that there would be no reason why it couldn't also be done for Zooomr. Would love that too!
- Thomas Hawk
I'd just like the ability to create a Flickr account without needing a Yahoo account - it's incredibly frustrating if you create them regularly. Yahoo have a really cumbersome sign up process.
- Martin Bryant
We did Steaks last weekend. Had like 8 people over today, so chicken is the best choice. Also had steamed corn and some fresh green beans with bacon pieces. Was an awesome Sunday. :D
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Bah, chicken. Where's the steak and ribs??? ...Ok, I'll take two. I'll bring my own plate.
- Zach Flauaus
First Steven talking about grilled steaks, now you with grilled chicken. MAAAAN it's past midnight but you guys are making me HUNGRY.
- Mona Nomura
Too bad Shake Shack doesn't deliver past midnight, huh Mona? ;)
- Mike Nayyar
I think I saw were those chickens came from, In a earlier post.

I have to agree with Rick on that one.. that's Texas grilling, not barbeque :)
- Russell Holliman
I MUST BE TEXAN THEN YEEHAW LITTLE COWBOYS

Yes, that is grilling. BBQ is slow, tedious, and worthwhile. Both are delicious.( those look great)!
- Robert Kenney
Also agree: looks delicious, but that's grilling, not BBQ.
- mike fabio
from twhirl
Don't confuse smoking with BBQ. If you are cooking with BBQ sauce then you are BBQing. Also in the states cooking with a grill (also called a BBQ or BBQ grill) is BBQing. And one last thing. Stop being so gosh darned pedantic! :p
- Alex Scoble
Carolina gal here, and agreed with the non-Carolina folks: there is some tasty looking grilling going on in that picture. BBQ is the art of cooking low and slow (though the debates of wet or dry, tomato or mustard, sauce or no sauce will go on forever).
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Okay! It's grilling. You are correct. BBQ has become a generic term for cooking outside over a flame these days. Like calling a Mac a PC (ducks).
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
I'm from Kansas City and yes, that's just grilling. That's not BBQ. Unless you have a sauce on the grill getting heated up to put on that bird when it's done.
- Admiral Anika
If he put BBQ sauce on the chicken or had BBQ sauce on the table, it's BBQing.
- Alex Scoble
No pork no BBQ its a rule, How ever he did preface the post by saying It was a Texas BBQ. And the chicken does look pretty good. So a free pass from the Gentleman from Alabama
- Tony C
from fftogo
@Will It's Texas BBQ because I'm a Texan. Nobody does BBQ like we do. @Grill vs BBQ argument peeps: BBQ is borderline slang term here, as is Grilling. I BBQed some chicken, I grilled some ribs, I BBQed a steak. It all means the same thing. You're pretty much just arguing over semantics for no good reason.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Texas BBQ does not hold a candle to Kansas City BBQ. :P </flamebait>

Wow, I just got an invite to a "Twitter" Conference. $199 for a seat at the two day event. Who would have ever thought such a thing was possible two years ago. hahahaha.
"If you haven't already started Tweeting -- or have missed the non-stop discussion in the major media -- Twitter is the wildly popular service that lets millions of users send frequent, short (140 character) updates to "followers." "
- Thomas Hawk
With over six million users, a triple digit growth rate, and a robust API -- the entrepreneurial, promotional, research and product development opportunities are staggering. And it's these opportunities that have inspired us to create a two-day event dedicated to the platform.
- Thomas Hawk
Seems like a bargain compared to the Web 2.0 conference I suppose.
- Thomas Hawk
"By the end of the 2-day event you and 600 other conference attendees will have your own Twitter accounts with 600 friends to get you started!"
- Kevin Fox
The next year the conference will have 2400 people and cost four times as much.
- Kevin Fox
Once you've signed up for the conference, you should be getting an e-mail from our event sponsor Pathable inviting you to join the 140 Conference attendee private social network. You'll be able to fill in your profile, bring in your blog and Twitter feeds, and connect with other attendees before and at the event.
- Thomas Hawk
sounds very very exclusive. I wonder if you get a special Twitter Conference Members Only jacket at the event?
- Thomas Hawk
do you think the doors at the conference will sporadically close on them?
- alphaxion
Anika: I was kidding, but they could either provision all the accounts for you, or require you to give them your twitter credentials during registration. ;-)
- Kevin Fox
I vote that Mona runs the break out session on drunk tweeting at the conference.
- Thomas Hawk
When's the event? I say we just flashmob it.
- Ken Sheppardson
Ill sit in the back and Plurk about the whole conference just to mess with everyone.
- Russell Holliman
I will admit to being at least a little intrigued by day two's "how to tweet your lunch with maximum impact," session, by Jeremy Zawodny.
- Thomas Hawk
@Thomas, I'm not going to drop $200 to talk about Twitter, although listening to Jeremy talk about tweeting his lunch would make it worth the money. So far, the community page shows three attendees.
- Ryan Kuder
Still waiting for the Friendfeed conference.
- Morton Fox
that is funny!! tweet your lunch - Nooo I don't care about your cheesy pizza! Mona idea YES!
- Susan Beebe
@Russell if you Plurk the event no one will see it ;)
- Jennifer Van Grove
I still plurk occasionally. Not seriously though. Usually thru my GTalk Bot.
- Ian May
Tip #1 for Twitter Conference Organizers: For extra credibility, put some sort of link to a Twitter account corresponding to the event, the organizing group, or anybody at all associated with the event on the event home page. (http://parnassusgroup.com/twitter...)
- Ken Sheppardson
They totally should've charged $140 for it. ;)
- Chris Thomson
Extra? > For extra credibility , put some sort of link to a Twitter account corresponding ................
- Russellreno
Two days??? I would have thought that a Twitter conference wouldn't last more than a couple of hours.
- Glen Campbell, esq.
Ken: you're right, we should have made that more prominent. Instead of a regular Twitter account (honestly, we're all on twitter, and we a company account - do we need another place to repeat our updates?) we made a bot. I wrote about it here: http://is.gd/oKDe
- Jason Preston
The conference hashtag is also #140tc - but we SHOULD (and will) have it more prominently on the site (right now it's under the details tab) - and the sad truth about the community page, Ryan, is that so far everyone's been too lazy to fill in their details...sigh...time to e-mail the attendees about it again...
- Jason Preston
You'll have 600 followers, but there are only 140 people at the conference?
- TranceMist
199? That's ridiculous. It should be called twitter for suckers conference.
- Don Martelli
Can't they just tweet the conference? :)
- Uncle CW™
Compared to what other social media conferences charge, it's not the ridiculous. Which is why I go to PAX where it's $50 for three days and a lot more fun.
- Alex Scoble
Just another event created to make the "experts" look like experts at something. None of those people know anything more about Twitter than anyone else here. I hope no one is dumb enough to pay for that.

You've really kicked up a shitstorm with this comment Robert. Stephen Fry has been online since God was a boy and there is definitive proof that her handles all his own Twittering, etc. He's a National Treasure - it's like mooning the Queen.
- Stuart Newman
Really, that's really disappointing if true but I think he does do his on tweets.
- Kol Tregaskes
i guess discussing twitter on national british television with Jonathan Ross wasn't good enough. http://tr.im/di9l
- Carlos Ayala
I think you're getting your wires crossed - Jamie Oliver is using a PR firm to post for him, but Mr Fry is certainly using it himself.

Robert did say 'hear'. And no it's not true. I totally echo Stuarts words although I thoroughly approve of mooning the Queen :)
- Toby Graham
It's definitely Stephen. If you know anything about the man and his legendary tech history, this is obvious. Plus the fact that his tweets follow his movements to he square metre, which would be difficult unless he's got a PR person with him 24/7.

I don't want everything going to Twitter, rather I want the ability to send something to Twitter manually. Only a small number of my FF posts belong in my Twitter stream. I'd also like the ability to send someone else's posts to Twitter, a sort of approximation of "Like" applied to Twitter, from FF.
- Dave Winer
I think perhaps FF's destiny is to be an editorial system. Or is it a bookmark tool? I use it that way mostly because it has the ability to save a picture along with a text clip.
- Dave Winer
I do like the idea of sending stuff to Twitter manually.
- Chris Nixon
That is a really interesting idea, having FriendFeed with the ability to "retweet" something. You got my vote.
- Rob Diana
It gets even more interesting with an open architecture for pushing stuff to blogs, email, SMS, etc. Twitter isn't the only interesting destination.
- Dave Winer
I too would like to control what comments (and content) go to Twitter on a case by case basis. Friendfeed + Twitter = Future Merger partners. And soon imhuo (in my humble uninformed opinion).
- Wayne Schulz
Twitter --> FF makes sense, as FF is aggregating my activity. FF --> Twitter feels funny. RSS posts into Twitter feel similarly wrong. Don't like Twitter as newsfeed aggregator.
- Marko Bon
How do you turn this functionality on?
- Peter Ghosh
I kind of like the new feauture so far. For me its a way of increasing my Tweets. I don't comment to much so I don't feel like its being spammy but I would like to see some more control of how and what gets posted.
- Nelson de Witt
from twhirl
I've turned ff2twitter on / experimental though, I'd definitely vote for more flexibility, too
- schilke
I am trying the Friendfeed-to-Twitter repost feature now

it does get too noisy, especially comments from FF. another vote for the like/retweet function. Although if you reshare it and have ff->twitted that already works.

Cecily, I too had stuff to say. I kept typing and deleting my comment. This is a big subject and throughout my life, I've seen my skinnier friends always fall back on, "She's fat, but I'm the single one?" Blah.

Thats because they have no restraint, no sense of holding back. They eat what they want, they fuck what they want, no limits.
- William Stewart
I think that's a huge and not particularly accurate generalization, William... but whatever.
- Fa La La La Lindsay
See, I had a lot of propositions, but I didn't exactly have the most sex. One of the reasons I got propositioned so much is because I think the perception is out there (like William's - blech) that bigger women have bigger appetites in every way, PLUS we're so glad to get attention from anyone that we're easy. Can't tell you how many times I heard "You're not cute enough to turn anybody down" whenever I said no to unwanted sexual advances.
- cecily
Looks like I came back home just in time! William - I disagree with your statement in many ways. I'm coming to the realization that my perspective on all things BBW may be different simply because I was not always overweight, but now that I am, I realize that a lot of what people say, think and feel towards overweight women is a direct reflection of what we say, feel and think about ourselves. Perceptions are changing as our attitudes change, and it's good to see that people are beginning to realize we...

Ain't nothing wrong with a woman with some meat on her bones. Gives you something to hold onto. I prefer that to the alternative.
- Give 'Em DBizness
Simone Weil once said, "The beautiful woman, looking in the mirror, may very well believe that the image is herself. The ugly woman knows it is not." An alternate hypothesis for you: perhaps an overweight woman does not settle for the superficial, and having found a real and true relationship, gets plenty of real and true hot sweaty monkey love?
- Ladybug Heather
(btw, real and true hot sweat monkey love ftw. I had to say that, because the phrase "real and true hot sweaty monkey love" is underused.)

In September of 1902 the above photo was taken of showman "Buffalo Bill" Cody and his traveling Wild West Show on San Francisco's Ocean Beach. It was a massive photograph, especially for the day, of one of the world's most famous and popular entertainment acts. It's a tremendous piece of history. Artist Thom Ross for the past two weeks has staged an amazing and dramatic reinterpretation of this original photograph at the exact site of the original -- 106 years earlier just below the Cliff House on San Francisco's Ocean Beach. Ross built life sized replicas cut from plywood and extensively painted all of the characters on horseback in the original photo. I talked to Ross last week about his creation and he told me that it took him two years to make all of the figures. Two years of work to recreate a single photograph for a two week public exhibit.

yeah, sorry guys, photosynth doesn't work on linux or Macs or in Google's Chrome browser. It's still pretty early Microsoft technology. But it's pretty cool if you can see it on a PC.
- Thomas Hawk
i'm on a mac and photosynth did not work. can u tell me what photosynth is?
- Curtis McElhinney
from twhirl
Curtis, Photosynth stitches all of the photos together and returns a 3D like rendering of the photos. I thought it worked well in this case because the line of painted sculptures was super long and it was hard to truly do a representative single photo. It is a bummer that it won't work on a Mac. I use a Mac as my primary computer so that's kept me from using it as much as I'd like. But it is cool tech to watch on a PC.
- Thomas Hawk
How did we end up back on these apps that aren't platform-agnostic?
- Glenn Batuyong
from twhirl
I viewed the Photosynth. It wasn't what I expected. I thought they would stitch together. I tried the Switch to the Next 3d Group but it mostly showed single photos.
- Russellreno
Glenn, I think that they are working on a Mac version too but the tech is still early. Photosynth came out of MSFT Research and was just released a few weeks back. I suspect at some point it will work on all platforms, but obviously MSFT is incented to make sure it works on their platform first.
- Thomas Hawk
I highly doubt they will make a port for Linux, but they would for the Mac.
