- Fabio Curzi

We're looking for a part time tech blogger over at TheNextWeb.com, if you're interested, please drop me an email to zee@thenextweb.com with a link to some of your best writing. We'll be posting this on a few job sites too, so please forgive us if we take some time getting back to you. Thank you!
i just got an email from someone asking me what a tech blogger should blog about. What would you think if someone sent that to you after the above post? - Zee.
Zee, I would think the person shouldn't be a tech blogger! - Rochelle
maybe they want to know if you're looking for a specific area, such as tech news, trends, web2.0, reviews, unboxing, pc/mac/linux, electronics, etc - brainno722 (Peter)
maybe the person wants to know what specific category. tech is very broad. - AJ Batac :)
but surely if you look at thenextweb.com that shoud give you a really good indication of the kind of things a tech blogger that writes for thenextweb would be writing about. no? - Zee.
the person who emailed you should have gone to your site and go to http://thenextweb.com/about/. The answer is there under "What do we write about?" - AJ Batac :)
lol +1 AJ! :) - Zee.

Reminds me of the deli counter in grocery store in Scotts Valley across the street from NorCal offices of MetaCreations (the Fractal Design arm of it). Local companies'd go there for lunch daily. New User Interface Coming to FriendFeed - http://thomashawk.com/2009...
Friendeed Demo
What does this photo of Robert Scoble have to do wth the new FriendFeed UI? Well, not much, but they do have a pair of Hulk gloves at the FriendFeed office and since I didn’t have any photo manipulations of Scoble as the Hulk already, I thought now was as good a time as any to make one. Earlier this evening FriendFeed gathered a small group of journalists, bloggers and users at their headquarters in Mountain View, California to demo a new beta user interface that they plan on releasing very shortly. The details of the new user interface are still private with an embargo on the news. According to FriendFeed Co-founder Bret Taylor, the embargo is put in place to make sure that when people write reviews about the new interface that it will coincide with the actual launch of the beta enabling FriendFeed users to try the new site out for themselves. - Thomas Hawk

- Alessandro Di Nicola
ma 150 all'anno? - Mucio
- Dania
150 partner lordi all'anno mi pare davvero una perversione sadiana.
:D - Il gareth in Milano
tutti in una volta? - bloggo
No perche' se e' cosi' allora forse dovrei ridere. - Veronica [FairyVisions] from fftogo
ci vogliono le metriche, sessioni, visite, utenti unici, utenti fidelizzati, provenienze, piattaforme utilizzate, velocity, profondità, per le pagine viste ho qualche perplessità - Maurizio Goetz
mi rifiuto di dichiarare tutto. Molti partner erano in nero. Africano. - Dania
- lasindachessa
laflauta, restiamo in ufficio tutto il fine settimana a dichiarare i nostri numeri - Dania
Dania a me interessano solo le metriche ;) - Maurizio Goetz

- Alessandro Di Nicola
scusa, Alessandro, ma tu guadagni davvero 120K all'anno? Cerchi amanti navigate? :) - Dania

- Alessandro Di Nicola
frivola fa molto "piccole donne crescono" - Dania
Fairy, dai. Piccipicci. Deassentati. - Alessandro Di Nicola
Dania, percaritadiddio, ho usato oggi "piccole donne crescono" e a momenti vengo scuoiato vivo. Stia attenta. - Hal Incandenza
O my god! Ma ci sta leggendo mezza FriendFeed nei like. Arrossisco. - Alessandro Di Nicola

- Enzo
eee quanto lavoro, @Enzo!
- Enzo

I like OS X's look and feel, I like the fact that there's Unix underneath (I have a billion years of BSD experience), and if I need to run PC apps, I can run Windows using VMWare Fusion. It was a win-win-win situation for me so I said, 'Why not?' - Akiva
Ya, what Akiva said. - Jason Wehmhoener
Ah, my bad, Akiva. So I take it the fact that you can run Windows applications on your Mac, as well as you had prior experience with Unix enabled you to switch? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I used to be exclusively Linux before my first Mac and still love it but, with a few minor exceptions, OS X is everything Linux is but prettier and less of a hassle to maintain. OS X has the best of both proprietary and open worlds. Dragging an application to the Applications folder to install it is perfection. No installer so no chance for malware to be installed (as long as you're not an admin). No dependency hell. Everything just works. You get things done without dealing with the OS. - ·[▪_▪]·
Shevonne, if you saw a Mac-clone at a lower cost than a Mac, would you buy it? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Jason, do you dislike interruptions in your work caused by reboots? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
No, I just wrote a rant about that. i think it's wrong. - Shevonne
possible248, pretty much, yeah. But keep in mind that if there weren't OS X-only apps I was interested in (Scrivener, Adium) then I'd be less inclined to switch. Sure, the Mac hardware is fantastic: the unibody, the lack of a drive activity light, and various little aesthetic touches go a long way. But that's not to prompt a switch. It was just a perfect storm of pros with few cons for me. One of the best tech choices I've ever made. - Akiva
Being unix, you can still automate your world with scripts. You can interact with most applications through AppleScript. What else do you need? For a developer, like me, there's no better platform. I run Linux and Windows in VMware when i need them. - ·[▪_▪]·
It's like I walk into a room. I have never been in this room before, the room is dark and I'm not sure where the light switch is. i just reach and there it is, the switch is right there, right where I reached for it, where it should be. - Geoff Schultz {TF}
The OS is much more straightforward than Windows for everyday use. Crashes less. No viruses. Well-designed hardware. That's it. - Zach Landes
Akiva, so the OS X-only apps draw you in, but the fact that you can still use Windows apps keeps you stuck to a Mac? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
as a long time unix / linux geek, OS X has an excellent UI on top of a real unix core. I also find that the closed hw and sw platform, seems to lead to cleaner integration that makes it so that things seem to work better (not perfect, but better). I remember my old XP machine, it was a crapshoot whether it would wake from sleep or not. Never worried about that when I switched to my G4 Powerbook. Granted I switched over 5 years ago. - mikepk
*but* like I always tell people, both windows and Mac are capable platforms, use what you feel comfortable with. - mikepk
I only use VMWare for IE testing. I prefer mac apps to windows apps every time. If IE would die I would be a happy windows-free person. - Jason Wehmhoener
Simplicity. - Mona Nomura
mikepk, so you feel that keeping some things closed can lead to a better product? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
My job bought me a Macbook Pro. - Derrick
Because OS X is the best OS that I have ever used. And everything just runs so well. Also, Apple just really knows how to make their products do almost everything you want it to. - Mathew™ aka Youngblood
Derrick, have you used Macs before that? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Mathew, give one example of a task that OS X handles elegantly. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Actually, yes. I've only ever used Macs. First computer was an Apple IIgs back in the olden times. And, I'm not a programmer, coder, web guy, or IT dude, I just use them to check my email, and surf the web. I went to film school so we used them for Avid and/or Final Cut Pro (when we weren't actually cutting film on a flatbed) but I've never felt the need to switch over to a non-Mac. - Derrick
Because they are pretty - which is seriously why I bought one... however, since I have had a mac vs. PC I have never had a virus or crashed or just froze up... I have had a mac for about 2 years now. - Jason
Because it runs on top of a *NIX-like open-source operating system, and the location of prefs files doesn't change 61 times a year... - Chris Gulker from Friend Deck
possible248, better is a subjective statement. I think it can lead to a smaller set of functions and options working better together. If the closed solution provider is good at choosing that core subset of functionality (and those functions are important to you) then it can lead to a better experience. You sacrifice flexibility and some amount of innovation when it's closed though. It's a tradeoff. - mikepk
I have no choice. I refuse to use Windows, but my iPhone does not work with my Linux desktop too well. - Dai Freddie Toyama
Re: a task that OS X handles elegantly. I've given you one. "Installing" applications. Dragging an icon to a folder to install it is perfection. Another: initiating a process based on activity in a directory: launchd (which is also an improvement to crond). Another: Using hardware without (the user) installing drivers. Another: AppleScript as a consistent interface to all applications - ·[▪_▪]·
I like macs because I find googly-eyed paper clips giving me feedback within the native word processing application to be indicative of a larger misunderstanding of what a user experience should be - Marko Bon from fftogo
I strongly dislike interruptions in my work caused by reboots. Reboots should be extremely rare events. - Jason Wehmhoener
I switched out of total frustration 5 yrs ago - one BSOD too many, horrible UI taking 20 mins to boot zzzzzz, freezing screens at critical points, a virus, lost files into the ether - that duck with the hammer in cartoons could have been me. Since? Much happier, more productive, calmer and saner. No bootcamp, a MS free zone except for Office for Mac (for clients), no viruses or BSOD. I hate the herd syndrome 'just because everyone else...' - Sally Church
Because it has the stability of a *nix operating system with a pretty face and a well thought out UI. I switched when I was trying to do video editing work. I bought the "right" hardware for my windows box, then software, then more software, then more hardware, and it NEVER WORKED. Then I bought an iMac, imported video, and everything just worked. Never looked back. - Jeremy Brooks
I can SSH from the terminal without installing a separate program. Also the dock but I use that much less lately. As a person whose primary function is desktop support, I appreciate console.app vs. the event viewer. I like being able to plug in almost anything without having to worry about drivers. I like that apps put everything in known places. There is no registry that may one day decide its corrupted and make me lose productivity for hours while I try to rebuild. All settings are stored in flat files. - EricaJoy
first fell in love with the UI, ever since I bought my first one I can't tell just how much I love OS X and how I want to forget Windows, but I can't - Dobromir Hadzhiev
LOOL! - LarchOye
My biggest peave with OSX is the way the keyboard shortcuts are setup... In Windows you can simply press the ALT key and it will activate the File>Edit>Help menu at the top, which you can then navigate with the arrow keys (or by pressing the first letter for what you want to select...) In OSX you have to first enable keyboard navigation, (Apple+F2 is it? I can never remember it!) and then you still have to hit Apple+F1 or whatever to activate the menu bar. WTF! - LarchOye
because I run everything I can find at least once. - The Amber
I have only ever used Macs because I studied graphics and advertising from the time I was in high school. Macintosh computers were the industry standard wherever I went. The only time I ever interacted with a Windows machine was when it was used as a server of some kind, i.e. a print server or a file server. There were also times when I had to take files supplied by a customer and recreate them on the Mac so they would RIP to a plated press. (Postscript) - Melissa Davis
I have only ever personally owned Macs because of college projects/off site work, etc. Any time I've ever had to use Windows, it's been a horrible user experience and it pains me to watch people struggle with that dreaded OS. There is a time & place - Windows has its place in business, but the Mac is really the Personal Computer to me & always will be. - Melissa Davis
Hmm, am I one of the few who moved from the Macintosh in the PowerPC and Mac OS 9 days to x86? (Mostly since I had a hardware device that needed a Centronics port and at least Windows 98, and the iMac I had didn't have one) - Tyson Key
I use PCs, Macs, whatever. Started with punchcards. Used to carry both a PC & Mac laptop in my travel case for clients. - Mitchell Tsai
Grew up (middle and high school) using PCs and tinkering around with Basic. Had my first experience with Macs (IIe) in college, where they were used in my journalism classes and the college paper for page layout (Pagemaker FTW). I thought the UI was so much more intuitive and friendlier -- particularly back then, when Win 2 and 3 were the predominant systems. Despite improvements with Windows, my loyalty stuck with Mac. I understand many people stick with PCs for gaming, but I never did much PC gaming. - rowlikeagirl
Plus, as many people have pointed out, Intel Macs now run Windows as a virtual machine, so there's really no reason to have 2 computers. My last employer started moving everyone over to Mac Pros with VMWare to eliminate the need for 2 sets of computers. Smart move. - rowlikeagirl
I have fond memories of Aldus Pagemaker and Lotus 123. - Mattb4rd
Mac just seem to work. PCs seem to require extra steps for everything. They also seem to start disintegrating after about 6-12 months and need to be rebuilt. I really wish Apple would license Mac OSX. I am writing this from a little Acer Aspire One running XP. Cute little machine. Would love to put OSX on it and have it supported by Apple. I sleep and wake my computer all day long. OSX doesn't mind. XP doesn't like it at all and refuses to sleep or wake after a few times. I just don't have time for that. - gfurry
As someone who grew up on DOS, then old-school Windows (I'm showing my age), the Mac UI was so much friendlier. Back in the late '80s-early '90s, there was such a stark contrast between the Windows and Mac UIs. You never had to worry about whether you had the latest driver, and "plug and play" was built-in. When I discovered how easy Macs were, I jumped ship and didn't look back. Now, the UIs are similar, so it's not such a stark difference in user experiences. - rowlikeagirl
2 levels: first is a casual experience that's mostly painless and pretty (I support people who put a lot of thought into UI design). Second there's the UNIX core in case I ever want to root around and try something fun :-P - David Wynn
@Possible The first one I noticed was just booting up and shuting down. Something that can take 10 mins or longer with Windows takes a min or less with OS X. Also, various programs like CS3 just work faster and better. Hell, even Office for Mac runs better. - Mathew™ aka Youngblood
I've been a Mac user since I got my long-lusted after black MBook on Aug.1 last year. I was sick and tired of Windows XP and its glitches, slowing down the more I used it, refusing to sleep or hibernate, requiring a shut down whenever I was done using it. I was tired of using CCleaner to clean up the junk and the registry.I was tired of apps not completely uninstalling themselves and leaving detritus in many locations.I was fed up as hell with the crappy user interface, GUI and general slowness all around. - Siddharth Deb
no virus for years boom done - adolfo foronda
Better software. Better software/hardware integration. No viruses. New tech is adopted rapidly into macs. Beautiful UI. Good support. Stable OS. I have been both a Mac and a PC, and at this point, will never use a PC again unless Mac tanks or completely jumps the shark. I just feel life is too short for all the BS that using a PC brings into your life. - Steve Isaacs
better designed software. iLife '09 (that almost summarizes it in a nutshell). OS X. A well thought-out ecosystem of security and usability. Open standards, quality freeware/shareware. Stuff Just Works™. Plays well in heterogenous networks. Requires very little maintenance. No worries about viruses, worms. - Glenn Batuyong
Well, I stick with Apple because eventually, they'll come out with a computer powered entirely by smug sense of self satisfaction. - stretta from twhirl
Longevity, ease of use, no viruses, solid operating system, fast and very media oriented. Plus I've always used Apple. - orionstarr
Also instead of making a thread to simply question Mac users why we use it and then try and put us down for it is not cool, maybe you should try and use one for yourself. Then maybe you'll see why we love Apple so much. For some of us it's a lifestyle. - orionstarr

Io ho pensato: eh? - azael عصير للمشيمة
@azael like :-) - Claudio Menzani
- azael عصير للمشيمة
