I share your fear. I find FF valuable because it doesn't have all the noise of Twitter, the silly apps and bad interface of FB, and people actually discuss things on FF.

It won't be a walled garden forever. An acquisition was the only way FF was going to succeed. It failed to attract a mainstream audience. In the end, I think this is a good move for both companies (although expect lots of bumps before they get it right).
