Re: America’s Ridiculously Rich: the 2014 Edition - http://billmoyers.com/2014...
"Startups have nothing to do with the wealthy? That is absolutely not the case - every startup is funded through wealth. It may be "self-funded", but it's still funded. It's impossible to start a business without any money. I don't care if you're mowing lawns (need a lawnmower) or writing code (need a computer). Tell me where these "beds" are that the gold is hidden in. My apologies, but I work with a lot of startups and a lot of investors and this is not how it works. Money that sits idle eventually loses its value - that's why they're called "investors"." - Douglas Karr

"Don't get blurred that Republicans are the party of the rich. Dems have an equal number of wealthy amongst them. http://www.therichest.com/rich... I don't disagree on hedge fund managers. I believe the tax burden should be equally shared." - Douglas Karr

"Even with loopholes and adjustments, the wealthiest Americans and wealthiest Corporations pay the vast majority of the expenses of the country. Other modern countries like Canada and Europe, have enlisted the help of a VAT... a sales tax that EVERYONE pays - both rich and poor. Our system pays the poor, not taxes them." - Douglas Karr

"According to the World Giving Index, the United States people rank #1 for helping a stranger in need of assistance (at 77 percent), and it ranked third for volunteering (at 45 percent). Not to mention the humanitarian efforts and aid we provide other countries throughout the world... paid with taxes... with the majority of that coming from our wealthiest companies and countrymen. I don't disagree with you on military spending and I find the ACA a disaster that has led to Insurance company CEO's incomes doubling over the last few years. And my guess is that less people have insurance than before now that the prices have skyrocketed. While the corporate rate is the lowest in our history, it's not the lowest in the world. Democrats fought alongside of Republicans for this new "global economy". If we want jobs to stay here in the United States, that means that our corporate tax rates must compete with foreign tax rates. I do NOT suggest that there's been an outflow to the poor. Quite the..." - Douglas Karr

"If your goal is to ensure some kind of equality or fairness through taxation and punishment, then the objective is to hurt the people at the top in order to help the people at the bottom. In reality, that's what's been the attempt of regulation over the last six years and the result is more people in poverty and more people on some kind of government assistance. You can't punish a country into prosperity. The result is that the federal bureaucracy simply takes in the additional revenue and the person at the bottom never sees the money they need. That's exactly what we've seen in this country. While the middle class income has dropped and more people are poor, government wages have increased substantially. Putting incentives into place that entice wealthy people to continue building and spending wealth is the appropriate response. This isn't a theory, this is the current path of all the top capitalist nations that have come out of the recession. Allow people to accumulate wealth and..." - Douglas Karr

"I have no problem with people wanting to help one another. In fact, the we are the most compassionate country on Earth and the most charitable. I have no problem with giving, nor charity. I do have a problem with the government taking more money under the guise of "equality" and then the poorest of our citizens are in worse condition 6 years later. Perhaps if we weren't spending all of the equality money on drones? Just a thought." - Douglas Karr
Re: America’s Ridiculously Rich: the 2014 Edition - http://billmoyers.com/2014...
"You need to re-analyze the tax structure. The wealthy pay far more than you or I benefit from the system. When a tenth of Americans pay 90% of the taxes, that means they're paying for the services that you use. How is Obama's "trickle down" equality system working out for you? Not so good I bet." - Douglas Karr
Re: America’s Ridiculously Rich: the 2014 Edition - http://billmoyers.com/2014...
"I love living in a country where one can accumulate wealth like these people have. The world is not a pie that's sliced up. Wealth is a river and as you create value, you're able to tap into it. I wish more people would stop pointing at these people and, instead, work towards becoming these people. The comments here drone on and on about how terrible wealth is but they disregard the reality. Where do taxes come from? Where does credit come from? Where does research and development come from? Where do startups come from? Where does employment come from? All of these things hinder on the ability for people to accumulate wealth. These people above don't hide gold under their beds, they spend it, they invest it, they pay taxes on it, they give it to charity.... all of those things benefit all of us. Even when they're building jets and yachts, there are thousands of workers who benefit from creating those jets and yachts. I'd add that the media, including this article, seems to make wealth..." - Douglas Karr

"We're not discussing history here. All human history is aghast with immoral and despicable violations of human rights. The vast majority of governments have evolved beyond female mutilation, stoning homosexuals, beating their women, beheading people, and slaughtering innocents. Turkey is not a monotheist country, their Constitution prohibits discrimination on religious grounds. And the USAF is not monotheist based nor, might I remind you, a controlling government. I'm asking again. Which "persistant Abrahamaic monotheist" state currently beheads people in recruitment videos, slaughters innocents, and pressures the peaceful majority of believers of their religion to join a worldwide Jihad?" - Douglas Karr

"A "bigot" is defined as a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions. I guess if I don't believe beheading infidels is tolerable, I'm a bigot. "Prejudiced" is a preconceived opinion that is NOT based on reason or actual experience. However, in this case there IS a reason so it's not an appropriate term, either. Now, if you ask if "stereotyping" the entire religion based on the acts of some participants, I would agree that we shouldn't stereotype every Muslim for the acts of these barbarians. No doubt they are Islamic, though. Their leader has a doctorate in Islamic theology and came from an Islamic upbringing. When it was "some" Catholic priests molesting little children, I don't believe I heard anyone making the same argument so vehemently. I was raised Catholic and I held the leaders of the Catholic Church accountable as did those with no believe in Catholicism. For that same reason, I believe it's okay to push all Muslims to openly reject this insanity. It..." - Douglas Karr
