Good jazz, good books, good friends and the freedom to enjoy them. Life doesn't get any better than that.

louisgray.com: I Don't Want To Hear About Distributed Conversations Any More - http://www.louisgray.com/live...
Interesting article. I agree with Louis that conversations will happen where people want them to happen. The question is how do we keep up with all the places that could have said conversations? Friendfeed is a start, but is it enough? - Dave Pancost from Bookmarklet
Seems to me that Seth Godin's new Brand Convo aggregator has an answer . . . to group convos?? - Shari Weiss
It can be a challenge, but a fun one. FriendFeed is a big help. So is BackType, and don't underestimate referral logs. - Louis Gray
You can't keep up, Dave. "Real-time" search and tracking tools looking out for URLs and keywords might get you close, but there will always be some conversation somewhere on some bulletin board or in email or via IM, or somebody will post a quote/snippet without proper attribution or links, or somebody will mark-up your post in diigo or some other tool that doesn't have an API, or there'll be some conversation in a language you don't speak.... - Ken Sheppardson
Things will "leak". Ideas will spread. Good ideas will spread and mutate such that everyone will eventually forget who had the idea initially, and the conversation--although related to the original idea or post--will become unrecognizable. I'm starting to think all you can really do is put stuff out there and listen to people whose opinions you care about. Trying to keep up with all the "conversations" is futile. - Ken Sheppardson
Ken, you are right. Trying to keep up with all the conversations is near impossible if you have a big enough presence. Interestingly, some people may resent you participating everywhere. It makes sense to do your best effort and participate where it makes sense and be willing to listen, but it is not about control any more, and I love that. - Louis Gray
Louis, I appreciate your comment to Ken. Especially your point about some folks resenting our attempt to participate everywhere in the conversation. The most important point you make, though, is the willingness to listen. It's here, in my opinion, that trying to "keep up" with where the conversation is important. It is true that one can't keep up with everywhere the conversation takes... more... - Dave Pancost
Mind if I join in this conversation?...(pun intended...). I also echo Ken's sentiment that the "conversation" will always occur in more places that one can know or possibly follow. The important thing is to initiate the conversation: Like an old infomercial use to say..."set it, and forget it"...once the conversation is spun, is out of your hands...just try to spin off an interesting one...if at all possible... - Ciro
Ciro, I agree with you. It's not possible to follow all places where the conversation goes. However, I raised the issue because I often initiate a conversation in order to learn and find out what others think. So I'm interested in at least attempting follow it as best I can. That way I get multiple perspectives, and expand my own understanding. This is why I asked the question that... more... - Dave Pancost

Wonderful advice. I've been bit by this one before. Fortunately I learned this lesson a while ago. Always, always ask "Is this product right for me?" Thank Lynn for great advice. - Dave Pancost from Bookmarklet

Hmmmm. The era of hyper-measurement. Jacques Ellul once wrote about how technology favors efficiency over everything else. Seth's conclusion is, I believe, true, but is it good? If not, then how can we and how should we fight the trend? - Dave Pancost from Bookmarklet
Just saw the season finale of Season 1 of "Saving Grace". Wow. What a show. Amazing. Phenomenal drama and seriously thought provoking. Can't wait to download season 2 from iTunes. Have to wait 'till next paday -- bummer.
Reading 101 Mac Tips, while Diana Krall croons "Dancing in the Dark" on iTunes. I just love my days off. :-).
Listening to great music on iTunes while conducting market research on handguns. Kind of an odd way to spend a Saturday night before leaving for work, but what the hey...

Anybody see Glen Beck's expose' on ACORN? OMG. Here's an organization supported you *your tax dollars* that taught an undercover journalist how to 1) cheat the IRS; 2) engage in prostitution as a business; 3) import teenagers from Equador in order to train them to enter the sex-for-hire business. Your tax dollars at work. People, its time to stand...
Beck asks two very pertinent questions about this. 1) Where's the media on all this? and 2) Where is Congress? Why aren't they investigating ACORN. BTW, President Obama is hip deep in association with 'em.
Just finished writing a blog post for tomorrow. Gonna let it "percolate" and do some editing in the morning before it make it public. Now it's time for some iTunes music and reading before I go off to work.
Just saw it's supposed to be 86 on Friday and 91 on Saturday. So much for Summer coming to an end here in Olympia. Fortunately on Sunday and Monday (my weekend) it's only going to be 76 and 68 respectively. That's good. Don't think I could stand another hot, humid weekend. :-).
Slept way too long today. Only have an hour and a half before I have to leave for work. Probably won't get anything done, but I needed the sleep. Didn't get hardly any over my weekend. Catching up, I guess.
