Re: Review of Popup Domination 2.0 - http://www.dragonblogger.com/popup-d...
"Hmm, wondering how this 4 year old article suddenly became so comment heavy, this was about Popup Domination 2, it has long since been updated, I haven't tried latest version, but if you see my comment below you will see my thoughts on popup subscriptions in general. As I said, they work for some niches better than others, I still see them in use and they do work. My own experimentation back then showed a dramatic increase in email sign-ups vs just having a form in my sidebar or asking at the end of articles, but I did have more complaints as well, so I opted not to use it anymore myself. As far as setup, I never found this plugin to be hard to setup, but again, this was 4 years ago and that version then, I haven't touched it since." - Justin Germino

Re: Review of Popup Domination 2.0 - http://www.dragonblogger.com/popup-d...
"Stephen, I did used to use Popup Domination and I did grow by email subscribers, but because this is an entertainment/tech/gaming portal it was too intrusive to readers and I got complaints about the pop-up. I have since switched to running sweepstakes and giveaways which are more efficient and rewarding to readers as a method to boost my email subscribers. This works for my niche of tech/games/gadgets, but if you are in the blogging/affiliate marketing niche it is still beneficial to use an incentive like an eBook, guide or something to bring people in to sign up. I have used other incentives like giving away custom Formidable Pro forms, Wordpress themes....etc. So find what works for your niche. If you are building a site where your most valuable content is only being provided to your subscribers, then it is perfectly acceptable to have a popup for subscription and make it clear the benefit and value they will get by becoming subscribers. Secondly, you have to actually get traffic..." - Justin Germino

Re: Enter the PlayStation 4 Giveaway - http://www.dragonblogger.com/enter-t...
"There were a lot of other blogs co-hosting, like I had this widget in this blog post, so they could have commented on any one of the 10 or so blogs participating, no way to know which one. Also it could have been an email subscribe or other giveaway. This is why I do wait for confirmation to announce, and if you notice when a winner does claim, I make every effort to show up on the fanpage and post acknowledging for others to see they are a live person. I also ask winners to take pics of them with the prize (when a decent value prize) as proof of legitimacy. Purple Monster Coupons has a large network of peer bloggers, they put together great prizes by pooling funding, but by not making this giveaway International it was limited audience, if I were to run it as host, I would have opened it up Internationally with winner outside U.S. able to get Cash Equiv or pay for shipping, winner's choice." - Justin Germino

Re: Dying Platform – PC or Consoles? - http://www.dragonblogger.com/dying-p...
"Yeah, the way it's priced now, I would never pay those rental prices to get PS3 games played on PS4. Gamefly is also a perfectly good rental option too for those who would rather rent 1 game at a time and keep it until they beat it, at less than 1/2 the cost of purchasing a game per month. Of course it won't make PS3 games play on PS4, but good for PS4 or Xbox One game rentals" - Justin Germino

Re: Dying Platform – PC or Consoles? - http://www.dragonblogger.com/dying-p...
"Right, and I think your statement about scrapping old consoles is not likely to be a trend going forward if they all stay using same PC architecture, then PS4 and Xbox One will be compatible with future consoles as long as they stay with same architecture. As far as console game prices, usually within a few months of a game releasing you can find deals/specials and get console games at 1/2 price or better, the used game bins at GameStop get some good older games on the cheap too. Also the 2 free games per month with PSN and Games with Gold as well as the specials for digital downloads is becoming more competitive with Steam all the time. Still not nearly as good a deal yet, but is getting better." - Justin Germino

Re: Dying Platform – PC or Consoles? - http://www.dragonblogger.com/dying-p...
"Yes, very expensive PC's and lousy games, but Atari and Nintendo kind of made gaming popular with their consoles, it was targeting the family/kids that made them grow into adults who wanted to game on PC in my opinion. What parent bought a PC for their kid to game back in the early 80's?" - Justin Germino

Re: Dying Platform – PC or Consoles? - http://www.dragonblogger.com/dying-p...
"It is the price of mid to high end gaming PC's that hold it back, they can't compete with consoles on price. The overhead to run Windows OS for example and the lack of gaming support for Linux keeps price high and requires more RAM/HDD than would be needed for a dedicated OS for gaming. Steam box I think will help, but this really is a PC/Console hybrid." - Justin Germino

Re: Dying Platform – PC or Consoles? - http://www.dragonblogger.com/dying-p...
"Maybe true for RTS and some MOBA, but arguably some say Diablo 3 is better played on console than PC and more suited for controller. As far as updates, look at the F2P games on PS4 already like Warframe, DC Universe Online and Blacklight and you can see that updates are no more difficult for this new console generation than PC. Still I prefer my MMO and RTS on PC, I can't ever play Starcraft 2 on a console, nor Guild Wars 2." - Justin Germino

Re: Dying Platform – PC or Consoles? - http://www.dragonblogger.com/dying-p...
"My own thoughts is that both will have their place and that consoles will fill the niche for all home entertainment being the hub or watching movies, VOD as well as gaming. Being that consoles are now using the same architecture and chipsets as PC the line is blurring and as game companies will tailor to make sure games are perfect on console version, they may not be as optimized to truly be better on PC (graphically or otherwise). The Steambox is an interesting hybrid and only further blurs the lines between PC and Console honestly, and shows that a console can be a PC and maybe vice versa, so there could be merging at some point where the console/PC is the same device in some ends of the spectrum (lower end). Price wise consoles will always be cheaper and better performance for the buck than a PC, you can't get a $400 PC that has the gaming power and capability of the $400 PS4, just ain't gonna happen, so PC gaming at it's finest is still going to be for those who have that..." - Justin Germino

Re: Giveaway and Review of the Dragon Touch R97x Android Tablet - http://www.dragonblogger.com/tablete...
"It is odd, there are laws, like in U.S. if anybody gives a way a product with a prize value of $600 or more, you technically have to collect tax info and file a 1099 to government. It doesn't apply to those who win internationally but if residents win. This is one reason why I keep my prizes lower than that taxable threshold to avoid tax issues since I file everything tax related for DragonBlogger. I never charge to ship to U.S. winner, I eat the shipping cost, but International shipping is very expensive, so as I fund these prizes and shipping, there is only so much I can pay for. If I had to eat every $50 or $60 shipping prizes, I would often spend 40% of my giveaway budget per year just in shipping the prizes. This is one reason why when I do most giveaways, I buy the product for the winner from Amazon (where PRIME ships free to U.S.) or I give cash substitution where shipping would incur too much cost, but I can't do this when advertiser is sending the prize." - Justin Germino

Re: Will The Oculus Be a Success? Verbal Test In Different Genres - http://www.dragonblogger.com/will-th...
"I can see the Oculus filling a need for people who have very small apartments or living quarters where large monitors are just not a viable alternative. Something like this as a solution and removing the need for a large screen TV and monitor at the same time if it were more capable. From what I hear the showcase of Elite: Dangerous on Oculus Rift was incredible, having the vast openness of space surround your field of vision really fit well." - Justin Germino

Re: Why Not Switch to Facebook Commenting for WordPress? - http://www.justingermino.com/why-not...
"The default Wordpress commenting system is no doubt easy for 1st time commenters and random people who drop by, but is a spammers dream, to try and get links/inject attacks into the site. I used to use CommentLuv for years on all my sites, GASP and other functionality has really helped, but in the end I just nofollowed every single link anyway since even allowing dofollow for loyal commenters will eventually get your site penalized by Google in the long run just for hosting those dofollow links in comments, and in the blogging/social media niche, 90% of the commenters do it for a dofollow backlink." - Justin Germino
