It's 30x15. It was a old giant juniper bush mess. $75 dirt, $50 to have stumps ground. The 100+ landscape blocks were left by previous owner in pile behind my shed. Planted with cutting flowers for butterflies and hummingbirds

We figure we saved about $1000 doing it ourselves. (Oh, forgot $5 for the wildflower seed - would be ten, but was on sale at Menards.)

btw, that is my dad's pick-up truck in the back. It is a full sized pick up, not a small one like a Ford Ranger, to give sense of scale.
- Sarah G.
The Lowes down here had a bunch of white coneflower, echinacea, and black eyed susan's in their clearance section (nice sized plants for $1/each) if you want to jump start your wild flower plot and send the old people on a mission.
- sglassme
I boycott Lowes since the pulled their ads from All American Muslim. Besides, I think I got enough seeds down. It's really just a holder until I decide what I want to plant in there for realzies as far as evergreens and stuff. This fall is going to be Hosta-spit-a-thon as well as bulb-arama. I'm considerign doing a bunch of bulbs so that there's always something flowering in there.
- Sarah G.
okey dokey. BTW, I am busy the weekend of bulbarama. I saw mom's pic on twitter. Did the posts not get cut down?

Smiley cut them to four feet high this morning. We're putting those light up end-caps on them to finish them off.

The real scandal is that: The IRS has interpreted our tax laws to allow big corporations and wealthy individuals to make unlimited secret campaign donations through sham political fronts called “social welfare organizations,” like Karl Rove’s “Crossroads,” the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and “Priorites USA.” This campaign money has been used to... - http://snollygoster.tumblr.com/post...
So a "conservative" friend (who likes to remind me often that he's "a conservative") responded, after I'd said as much as this quote to him the other day: "Juan Williams said the same thing." I wasn't sure whether to take this as: 1. A general observation. 2. Confirmation that I, a flaming socialist liberal, had something in common with someone my "conservative" friend admires. 3. Confirmation from another white person that all black people think alike no matter their political persuasion.

I decided to pick option 4 and ignore the comment altogether and go get coffee. We talked about our kids.

Sorry for the clunky sentence construction in the first comment. I can't be arsed to fix it. It's #monday

"When Gundlach arrived with his parents, Reynolds told them the meeting had been delayed and invited them to join an Armed Services Day celebration in the rotunda. There, hundreds of law enforcement officers, military personnel and civilians were seated, keeping the secret — until they brought out Casey. When Gundlach saw Casey, he put his head in his hands and cried. She licked his face, wagging her tail furiously. "

Klamath River Overlook. The first time I went there it was so foggy you couldn't see anything, but the weather was much better this time. It's a short drive off of 101 between Eureka and Crescent City, just north of the bridge over Klamath River.
I love that area -- haven't been for a long time. I stayed at the hostel near there twice, and had such a great time hiking in Redwood National Forest.

If you turn left just before the river, you'll end up on the road you can see in the photo. That's a good one too. For this view though you'll want to turn left a little bit after the river, on Requa Road.

I love this area; I try to visit at least once a year. I usually stay in McKinleyville.

I haven't been there since the '80s but I loved that part of CA. We were bike riding from Brookings, OR to LA and it was a helluva way to see it.

Wow. What an inspiration. As someone who too-often cut a class for more pressing 'social' commitments, I feel ashamed. Fortunately my children didn't inherent my opportunistic penchant for existential freedom. #IdontKnowWhatThatMeans

Jeaq, o işkembeler de işe yarayabiliyor. bende de asherman sendromu vardı, rahim içinde yapışıklıklar mevcuttu. üzerine gebelikte previa totalis bindi. plasenta rahim ağzını tamamen kapatıyordu ve aksesuarlı dedikleri cinsten parça parçaydı. zaten başta sağ yumurtalık girişi tamamen kapalıydı. yaş gereği senede ancak 1-2 yumurtası düzgün tutan, onun da soldan gelip gelmeyeceği belli...

"The Minoans, considered the first advanced civilization in Bronze Age Europe, left behind massive building complexes, stunning artwork and hieroglyphs—but few clues about their origins."

"Archaeologists first posited that the Minoans came to the Greek island of Crete from northern Africa, establishing themselves on the island about 5,000 years ago. Subsequent theories suggested Balkan or Middle Eastern origins for the civilization. But research published today in Nature Communications reveals both a more European, and home-grown, development."

"Researchers obtained mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from the skeletons of 37 well-preserved ancient Minoans found in a cave in east-central Crete. The team compared the mtDNA from the remains with that of 135 modern and ancient populations."

Whenever I try to capture a gorgeous sunset, the end result is inevitably a pale imitation of reality. Did you do anything special to get this shot?

A rainstorm had passed through about 20 minutes before this, so the road was reflecting the awesome pink glow. Even this did not do it justice...the pink seemed to explode in the sky as the sun was setting. Only lasted about 5 minutes. Just an auto adjust on color, but to the naked eye it was even more colorful than this. I messaged my local friends to get outside as soon as they could to witness it, because it doesn't look like this very often.

There’s a stereotype that black people are lazy. I don’t know if that’s true, but I know white people went all the way to Africa to get out of doing work. - http://silas216.tumblr.com/post...

Perhaps I've straying too much on Tumblr lately. My mind went where it shouldn'ta. (Also, I don't know if that's the proper idiomatic spelling of "shouldn'ta" as a contracted version of "shouldn't of" which is a incorrect idiomatic usage for "shouldn't have"... but I digress.)

Yeah, these kinds of decision should be between you and your physician (i.e., the person who is going to cut off pieces of you.) The problem is, it's usually a decision made between you, your physician, and your health insurance company.
what's the construction? anything on the bottom to isolate the box soil from the ground soil?
- Joe Silence
i ask cos the soil in my city is something i would never grow food in.
- Joe Silence
Yeah, there's a layer of alfalfa on the bottom, and then flattened cardboard boxes atop that.
- Bill Mason
I'd really like to build something like this, except that I'm not very knowledgeable about gardening. I used to help my grandmother with her (50+ years ago) but didn't take any notes! Also, I'm guessing it's important that they be reasonably level, so I'd have to terrace my back yard a bit more. Maybe one box per terrace or something.
