Yes, I actually said that. Blindly fomenting controversy with nary a clue as to why or how. Still laughing at my own jokes.

It's kind of sobering to realize that in 1 1/2 years I'll be reaching the age at which people, upon hearing of my demise, would no longer feel compelled to say "Gosh, he was so young!"
That's changing. I think people now say that with ages 10 - 20 years older than they would have said when I was young. Lifespan has increased (although with the recent economic troubles and the further consolidation of wealth amongst our nation's richest, that may reverse). - Spidra Webster
I have tinnitus. This is not news to me, because I live with it every day. But I went to a free screening for auditory problems and oral/throat problems on Saturday, and the audiologist determined that I couldn't hear higher pitched sounds in a specific range. I said that those sounds were the ones at the same pitch as the ringing in my ears.
She wants me to come in for 'training' to learn how to ignore the ringing. I nodded and thanked her for her suggestions, but I should've pointed out that I'm almost never aware of it unless I'm doing something like taking a hearing test, or trying to hear some abnormally quiet sound. In other words, I do ignore it 99.9% of the time. I don't think I need to pay couple hundred dollars per session to learn that skill. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Well, I hesitated when I shelled out $20+ dollars for a hard shell case for my smartphone. It's a Zagg case that protects both the front and the back, and doesn't cause 'bubbling' of the protective screen film. I was riding my bicycle tonight, and hit a bumpy stretch of pavement, knocking my phone out of the holder on the handlebars...
The case separated on impact, sending the phone a few feet across the pavement (facedown, naturally) and scattering the two halves (front and back) of the hard case even further. I was certain the phone had 'bought it' because I was going about 12 mph at the time, and it fell from about 3 1/2 feet to the the ground. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
I picked up the phone, and there was no sign of damage. I picked up the two halves of the case and the snapped together over the phone with no sign of cracking or 'looseness' of the attachment mechanisms that hold the halves together. The phone is fine, the case is fine. $20+ dollars well spent, methinks. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
In the past I've posted numerous items about my tendency to 'misplace' things. They usually turn up within a few hours, days, or months. However, I think I set some sort of new record this week. I bought a pair of summer-suitable casual-but-nice shoes earlier this week. Haven't worn them yet. Can't find them. Anywhere.
I've been looking for them for nearly 3 days now. Not in the car, not in the garage (in case I set 'em somewhere while unloading other stuff from the car.) Not in my closet (or any others, for that matter. Not in the laundry room, the bathroom, the room where I store all of my sexual equipment (swings, pulleys, gravity inversion devices, monkey bars... did I mention swings?) but they are nowhere to be found. I'm beginning to think they never made it out of the store. I know I paid for them at the checkout register. This store always packs things into about 6 smallish plastic bags, even if you've only got 7 items. I'm afraid I may have left one bag behind without realizing it. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
If so, this really irks me because the checkout person is supposed to hand you the bags (specifically to avoid this possibility) but that day mine didn't. Even so, as she was loading bags for the next customer she should've noticed something as big as a shoebox in her bagging area! And if she did, it would have been easy enough to call to me and say something. And even if that isn't an... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
I'm peeved. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Also, I was kidding about the 'sex room' thing. I certainly don't need an entire room for that stuff. ;) - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

2 days later: No shoes yet. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ from Android
This is where I blame St. Anthony, finder of lost things. Tradition in my house is the request to St Anthony that something is lost and must be found, item shows up and a donation is made to the poor box or food bank. We think St Anthony is the extortionist by hiding the stuff in the first place. Hey, he helped my friend find the diamond that fell out of her ring and was found UNDER medical equipment. - Janet:#TeamMonique from FFHound!
I'm beginning to think that I may have left them in the shopping cart (though I don't think I used a shopping cart to carry things out to the car.) Or, worse yet, set them on the roof of the car as I arranged the plastic bags on the floor of the back seat, then drove off in a state of oblivion. Dang it! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
[Monday evening update] Found 'em... in my bedroom... under some yet to be folded clothes. O_o - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
See what happens when you don't keep up with laundry!! This happens in my house too, all the damn time. - Headless Gnad Kicker

I will take care of the donation to the food bank as I called upon dear St. Anthony to assist you in your lost article. - Janet:#TeamMonique
Thanks for calling in the big dogs, Janet. I'll throw in a few cans of beef stew and some boxes of cereal myself! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Also... Melly, I haven't kept up with the laundry since the Nixon administration, and that's because I was in college and only did laundry once a month (when I went home.) Oh wait... my mother did it for me. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Two things I've found with Android on a tablet: 1) You can't change the cursor color (so far as I can tell) so when the background is dark, the default dark cursor disappears unless you slide it over some lighter icon or some such. And since you don't know where the cursor is, you don't know which way to go to get it over that lighter area... and
2) in Gmail, when you have a few hundred messages that you want to delete en masse, there doesn't seem to be anyway to mark a block of them using the 'shift-click' option as in Windows. One-by-one message deletion is not a very elegant solution. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
I did, however, figure out why the touchpad (on the docking keyboard) stopped working completely. There's a cryptically marked key that toggles it on and off. If you press it inadvertently, there's no indication onscreen that you've done so. I ended up resetting the table and reloading everything after a couple hours of trying to debug the problem without success. (I actually read help files, which is a huge blow to my male ego.) - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Daughter surprised me earlier by riding her bicycle from campus to my place, bearing a batch of cookies that she had baked! I could get used to this.

Republicans: Obama Must Take Action in Syria So We Can Criticize Action He Took in Syria : The New Yorker [SATIRE] - http://www.newyorker.com/online...
[SATIRE] "WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—A growing chorus of Republican lawmakers are demanding that President Obama take some action in Syria so that they can attack whatever action he took in Syria. Appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) laid out the situation in stark terms: “The time for President Obama to do something in Syria that we can eviscerate him for is long overdue.” Arguing that there are a variety of options available to Mr. Obama for dealing with Syria, Sen. Graham said, “The President needs to choose one of those options so that we can immediately identify it as a catastrophic choice and demand that he be impeached.”" - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ from Bookmarklet
" Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) used an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” to express impatience with Mr. Obama’s “steadfast refusal to give us something new to rake him over the coals for.” “The American people have grown weary of my nonstop criticism of the President’s handling of Libya,” he said. “They are ready to hear me incessantly berate him for his handling of a different... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Today has turned into a big big day. An exhausting day. An expensive day. An exciting day. I am no longer dependent upon an undependable car. I also will have no reserve credit to speak of for the foreseeable future. I might be slightly insane. Details to follow.
Also, the dealership where I closed the deal was having a grand opening celebration. I had to ride my bicycle back to the dealership to pick up the beater Infinity, so I stopped in to see the festivities. There was a drawing for prizes of various types, including giveaways of 4 new cars. After a 30 minute wait, I was one of 8 people remaining who had a chance for a car. I opened the wrapped HotWheels car that they had given out (one to each of the 20 finalists.) Only one of them was red. If mine was red, I'd win the car. 11 people ahead of me unwrapped theirs. No red car. I ripped my open. Green. Sigh. #19 finally unwrapped the red car. It was an older woman, and she was overwhelmed, so I didn't feel too badly about losing out. Still, what a trip! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
What'd you get? - DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
Also, if anyone wants a 1996 Infiniti i30t with power leather seats (heated), power moon roof, power everything else, 3.0L V6, 145K miles, give me a holler. Runs good (if you can get it started.) Body is ready to return to its original mineral state. Tread wear is less than 20%, suspension is good. Exhaust not so good. Give me a holler. It's yours for the taking! Else I'm going to donate it to a good cause. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
I went with a Kia Soul. The features, price with incentives, fuel economy, cargo capacity, and "fun-to-drive-ness" won me over. Mostly the incentives, including some special ones due to the grand opening. Buyer's remorse is already kicking in. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
That and I wanted to be like Uli and Kirsten. ;) - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Actually (and only those of you over 50 or 55 will appreciate this) one of the key considerations was the ease of getting in and out with my iffy hip. A big improvement over the Infinity! Yes, I'm getting old. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
^I appreciate that. - Jimminy IS Everybody
While only people >50 might appreciate the "iffy hip" part, anyone of larger carriage will appreciate the "ease of getting in and out" part. That's part of why I like my Focus so much. Getting in and out of my Focus is infinitely simpler than my wife's Kia Optima or my great-aunt's Mazda 6 (both of which I drive occasionally, and both of which sit much, much lower to the ground than my Focus). - DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
Yeah, I definitely considered the Focus. They're a really sharp car and getting great reviews. If not for the incentives offered on the Soul right now, I might have gone that way. I was tempted as it was. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
When I look at new cars over the next few months (planning to wait until mid-June before actually buying anything - we have to get through some major expenses in the next month & a half, first), I'll definitely be curious to see if the Fusion sits as high as the Focus. I've loved both of my Focuses, but I would like to get something a tiny bit bigger (the kids aren't getting any smaller). - DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
I came close to getting a used Fusion (3 years old with ~30K miles on it) but the dealer had a pending offer and it ended up as sold. As I recall the seating/headroom is way better than my Infiniti. Not sure how it compared to the Focus. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
I hope you like the Soul as much as Uli likes his! It's been a good car thus far. - Kirsten
^5, jkram!!! What color is it? (On our trip to Houston I drove a Ford Focus, and MAN, was that a POS. I was so glad to be reunited with Fridolin.) - Uli - Sent to Coventry
*gasp* ;-) - MoTO #TeamMonique from Android
I loved my Soul and we seriously considered getting another one when we traded our cars in last year. It's a well-designed car that has an amazing amount of room. But, I'm happy with our Kia Forte now. - Running Slow
I admire your soul to, Jylli... oh, wait... - MoTO #TeamMonique
MoTO: FWIW, the Focus was having issues (the clutch was going). Got really good gas mileage, though. - Kirsten
Thank you, Kiki. You're my favorite. - MoTO #TeamMonique
I think we know that, B. Still that Focus was a POS, Detroit or not. :-P ---just messin with ya, dood. - Uli - Sent to Coventry
*sigh* --- Am I so delicate a flower? Well, I am, but still. - MoTO #TeamMonique
You am, I is, we all be. - Uli - Sent to Coventry
I was really tempted by the Focus electric model, but the upfront cost was intimidating (way out of my range) and the $7000 tax credit wouldn't arrive for another year (or so I assume.) And then there's the $1500 - $2000 power station installation cost... maybe in my next life? It looks like an excellent choice for someone looking for an all electric vehicle, particularly with the price... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Now to come up with a name... suggestions are welcome. (As a starting point, the Soul has a high rear roof height, so personificationally/anthromorphizationally(!) it's as if someone had a butt-lift. But in a good way.) - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Of course there's also the 'soulful' aspect, in this case silver-haired soul, I suppose. Boz? Jimi? Ray? Stevie Ray? (I lump blues and soul together.) - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
FWIW, I haven't rioted in years. #WaitWHUT? - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Friends, I think it's time we talked about a subject that we've avoided for too too long... unpleasant? Yes. Disgusting, even. But we can avoid it no longer. Yes, I'm referring to deer poop. And not just "here or there." We're talking yards FULL of it. EVERYWHERE! They've been discreetly crapping in my yard ALL WINTER!
I only just now realized it because it has taken this long for the snow to melt and expose their dastardly deed(s)... there'll be no walking barefoot in my yard for quite some time, I can assure you of that. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
not to mention subtle leavings of Bunny Poo in mine - WarLord
What's deer and bunny poo? What's s now? - Headless Gnad Kicker
Yeah, I'm sure I have plenty of that, as well. It was actually the bunny prints I noticed in the snow all winter long, but I guess since deer hooves leave a small foot print, the identification becomes more ambiguous when they penetrate 18" into the snow. Bunnies pretty much stay on top. They ALL poop, though. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Think little kangaroos and big wallabies, Melly. Pretty much the same thing. (Or vice-versa, I guess?) Oh, and I'll have to just send you some snow. It should get there in 2-3 weeks. You'll be really surprised when you open the box. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
It's called Bambonite. ;-) As soon as the weather permits, shovel it all into a pile, add your grass clippings and cardboard or whatever brown stuff (besides poop) you can. Get at least a 3' x 3' pile going and it should heat up enough to kill the pathogens in the poo. - Spidra Webster
After inventorying my yard yesterday evening, it appears that two of my 15' shrub trees will have to come down. The weight of this year's deep snow caused the branches to spread and sag so much that they aren't likely to recover. In one case, the main 5" trunk split nearly down the middle almost to ground level. Dang. They're on the part of my yard where there are no entrances to the... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

"Stop Saying That Men Don’t Read Women - (Yes, men read books about women and by woman authors.)" - By Ester Bloom | Slate Magazine
"It has become a truism that “men don’t read women.” The assertion is taken as self-evident by feminist publications like Salon (“while women read books written by men, men do not tend to reciprocate”) and shown anecdotally by blogs. It is also perpetuated by male bastions like Esquire, which recently released a list “of the greatest works of literature ever published” featuring one (1) book by a woman out of a total of 75. (Dudes like stuff that is “plot-driven and exciting, where one thing happens after another,” helpfully explains Esquire’s editor-in-chief, who introduced Fiction for Men e-books to widespread scorn last year.)" - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ from Bookmarklet
"To be sure, the inequalities of the literary world are as plain as the nose on Jonathan Franzen’s face, and many writers and readers alike remain outraged about this unbalanced state of affairs. "The truth is more complicated. Of course men read books about women and have for centuries—what are Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina if not classic books about women? I can only speak for myself, but in recent years I've read many more books by female authors than by males, though I wasn't consciously aware of it until reading this article. Four of the thirty books I've read this year were written by women. Two of those are novels: The Handmaid's Tale and The Secret History of Moscow. I don't think the ratio would be more even if I looked further back in time. - Eivind
Given I have read so much Jansson and Le Guin this year, and my current reading is Mary Gentle, the ratio is more favourable than usual. - Pete #TeamMonique
Disclaimer: I have a confession to make that may undermine the 'noble' posture of my earlier comment. One of the reasons I'm an avid reader of Louise Erdrich, besides the fact that she's a wonderful 'local' (Minnesota/Twin Cities) writer, is that I've met her and she is lovely in personality and physical presence. And we share a birthday (even the year!) And she said that I, too, was a... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

I'm not for overwhelming negativity, but my takeaway seems to be that if we ignore the inequality, it will magically fix itself? Pointing out a statistic isn't perpetuating a myth. Bolstering your argument that men do read 'about women' whili conflating the issue with reading female authors, obscures that both of the classics she name drops were books about women who were written by men... more... - Jennifer Dittrich

This past Thursday was the first day in the 50's since late last October. It was mid-40's yesterday, and we broke into the 70's today! 70's expected to continue through Sunday and then we might hit THE 80's! It's amazing what happens when you can finally get rid (of most) of the snow cover.
Going off FF to read my owner's manual! Yes, buyer's remorse if fully engaged. (There is a state-mandated 3 day period where I can return it and get all money/fees back, but I don't think it's going to get that bad.) It's just something I go through and have to accept as part of the process.
Thought I had the car ignition key thing resolved by getting a new key made. The new key turns in the lock cylinder just fine. Not the slightest hint of snagging, but today I got stranded again. This time the key turned just fine, but the switch won't trigger the starter. Boo.

Also, I think I mentioned last time --when this happened a few weeks ago and the key wouldn't turn the lock cylinder-- my biggest concern is that my daughter uses my car quite often. It's one thing if a lumpy lug like me gets stranded somewhere at night. A different matter entirely if it's my daughter. Not an acceptable situation. ATTENTION ALL USED CAR SALES PEOPLE! I'm not the beer drinker I once was, and even then I couldn't manage half of what most of my peers did back in the day. But I feel compelled to say the the apparent fascination that brewers currently seem to have with "shandy" style beers seems misguided. Of my acquaintances, few women and even fewer guys favor fruity beer. So there, I said it.
It's one thing if you choose to put a lemon, lime or orange slice on top of your pilsner, etc. And I'm told there is a shandy drink the is a combination of beer and lemonade. That seems like a waste of beer AND lemonade to me, but to each his own. Brewing a beer with a citrus flavor 'built-in' is on a part with lemon Pepsi and lemon Coke. It really isn't the same as said beverage WITH A LEMON IN IT! Okay, I'm done. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

Agreed, Cristo. I recall having a weiss bier in Munich back in 1977 and being surprised when it came with a lemon slice floating on the top. Then came the Corona with lime trend. That makes sense to me, and the fresh accents from the fruit work well. I'm just finding the preponderance of newly arrived "berry" shandy's off-putting. I've been begging the servers and bartenders in the US to not put citrus in my hefs. With limited success :) I first encountered these beers mixed with sodas in France in my youth, and I figured that was something only the French did because, you know, they're French. I am not aware of it having spread this far north yet, but I am not very well informed about most things :) - Eivind
When I was living in Oklahoma many years ago, there was a popular recipe for margaritas that incorporated a can of beer into a blender full of limeade frozen concentrate, triple sec and, of course, tequila. I don't remember much about the aftermath, but I seem to recall that it was tasty. Beyond that, I draw the line on mixing fruity beverages and beer made the way God (or Odin) intended. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
I think we've discovered the source of my too-frequently-recurring stomach woes. The temp control in my fridge somehow bumped to the 'warmer' side of the spectrum. First clue (aside from my gastric distress for the past several days) was that milk I bought less than a week ago was curdled. And then there was the 'yogurt incident' yesterday.

It's sunny, outside temps above freezing, and for the first time since the start of winter the ambient temp in my dining room (where my notebook computer is presently situated) is above 70°. Life is good!
We might even hit a high of 50° today, which would be the first time this year. But I'll believe it when I see it. And of course they're forecasting snow and rain for tomorrow, but then 60°+ for Friday and 70°+ for Saturday! That pretty much sums up this spring: Stuck in the teens, 20's, and 30's for 4 months, finally hit 50 and then jump to 60's and 70's in an eyeblink. Not complaining, but we seem to be losing the 'transition' temps on both sides of winter, which can't be good for vegetation, birds and critters in the wild. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

As a father, it's encouraging to see that my sons are much more socially engaged than I was at their age. But I do wish that nearly everyone of the pictures of one (or both) of them posted on Facebook was of something other than avidly consuming adult beverages.
I was devoted to my work, soon-to-be marriied, and thinking about graduate school. Not muich of a party animal. And I didn't even have to worry about things like social media back then. Different time but, as always, moderation in all things. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Thankfully, my daughter is following a different course. Then again, she only recently turned 21, so I shouldn't assume. At least she seems to have friends who are more discreet in their picture posts. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
My sister's FB is entirely of photos of getting drunk or being drunk. She hangs out with a crowd that values that and reinforces it. If you hang out with people who give you positive feedback for posting photos of your lunch, you'll post a lot of photos of your lunch. At least until you change your crowd or your crowd changes... - Spidra Webster
Maybe if you start making embarrassing comments on every drunken photo, they'll feel less tempted to put them on there? Or are they already too old to be embarrassed by stupid dad? :) - Eivind
It has a lot to do with the circle of friends they 'hang out' with. It was somewhat more understandable when they were in college and 'doing what college kids do'... but now that they're working and are-or-soon-will-be seeking jobs more inline with their chosen field/degree, it is time for a new tack on life, methinks. I'm sure I sound like a cranky old dad, but I'd hate for one of them... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Also, I did an excessive number of 'air quotes' in the previous comment. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

"WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Federal investigators said today that they were “baffled” as to why millions of people chose to believe something they read yesterday on Twitter, a social-media site that has falsely reported the deaths of more than seventy-five thousand different celebrities. “It’s mystifying,” said one investigator working on the case. “One theory we’re considering is that people who spend time on Twitter eventually lose their capacity for critical thinking and become sheep.”" - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ from Bookmarklet
The Syrian Electronic Army, the group of hackers who claimed responsibility for yesterday’s hoax, said that they were “flabbergasted” that it created such chaos: “Honestly, we didn’t think anyone would believe it, what with it being on Twitter and all.” At Twitter headquarters, a company spokesman said that yesterday’s incident, which briefly caused the Dow to plunge a hundred points... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

Alright all of you avid tea drinkers. I went to the local purveyor of loose leaf teas, and got a blend that it supposed to soothe a distressed tummy. Directions: Steep in 212°F water for 20 minutes. Question: If the water is cool after 20 minutes of steeping, can I just nuke it to get it back up to warm temp? Without the tea bag, I assume?
Even making coffee in my french press isn't THIS complicated! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Too late. Already forged ahead. I guess we'll find out! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Well, 20 minutes of steeping and it still doesn't have much flavor. Reheating with the microwave (with the teabag still in the cup) didn't seem to affect things much. This is why I prefer coffee, people. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Yes, it'd be fine to nuke to warm it back up. But what on earth kind of tea is this, that it needs a 20 minute steep? - Kirsten
I'm not an avid tea drinker, but my understanding is that white tea and green tea have very mild flavors, so if it's either of those types of leaves, you might not get much flavor, no matter how long it steeps. - DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
Green teas will get very bitter if you let them steep that long. Some white teas might not, but most will get at least a little bitter. Black tea, too--very bitter. So I'm guessing there are no leaves from the camellia sinensis plant included or it would likely be very noticeable. - Kirsten
I've read some black teas should steep at like 190 F or so (I forget the details, but the point was it was slightly below boiling) for five min. This one, kinda sounds to me more like they want a full boil for 20 minutes... but you should ask the store that you bought it from, I'd say. - Andrew C (✓)
Yeah, I think it was supposed actually 'brew' for 20 minutes because it had cooled way down by the time the 20 minutes was up. The guy at the tea shop told me what he was using in the blend (two or more varieties of tea) but I can't remember for this one. All I can say for sure is that one of them has pea-sized 'buds' and the leaves of the other look more greenish than dark like a black... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
So the Koch brothers want to buy the 8 newspaper operations owned and managed by the Tribune Company. That includes the Chicago Tribune and the L.A. Times. If that doesn't drive a wedge through the heart of objective print journalism in this country, I don't know what will.
Just discovered that when a 'Greek' yogurt container says "Use by 4/21/2013" it's for real.
Thanks. I just *had* a Greek yogurt. - Uli - Sent to Coventry
So it is now Greek cottage cheese? - Janet:#TeamMonique from FFHound!
Oh, man, I KNOW! Today is Earth Fair, where the library has a big tent for storytelling and to showcase our new seed library. Blergh. - Chelle Chelle Ro Ro
The UWEC spring softball season should be starting the play-off rounds now, but they've barely played any games! The got 4 games in yesterday by playing a quadruple header (in La Crosse, I believe) and those games were SUPPOSED to be home games in EC. Same with high school sports. Most have just cancelled the entire season because there are only a few weeks of school left. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
A lady goes to her priest one day and tells him, "Father, I have a problem. I have two female parrots, but they only know to say one thing."
"What do they say?" the priest asked. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
They say, "Hi, we're hookers! Do you want to have some fun?" - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
"That's obscene!" the priest exclaimed, then he thought for a moment. "You know," he said, "I may have a solution to your problem. I have two male talking parrots, which I have taught to pray and read the Bible. Bring your two parrots over to my house, and we'll put them in the cage with Francis and Peter. My parrots can teach your parrots to pray and worship, and your parrots are sure to stop saying that phrase in no time." - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
"Thank you," the woman responded, "this may very well be the solution." - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
The next day she brought her female parrots to the priest's house. As he ushered her in, she saw that his two male parrots were inside their cage holding rosary beads and praying. Impressed, she walked over and placed her parrots in with them. After a few minutes, the female parrots cried out in unison: "Hi, we're hookers! Do you want to have some fun?" - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
There was stunned silence. Shocked, one male parrot looked over at the other male parrot and says... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ

"The useful website Mappery “was created for map enthusiasts to find, explore, and discuss great maps. Anyone can contribute maps, comments, and ratings to the site.” The site contains numerous maps, and is certainly worth exploring. Thankfully, users seldom exploit the site for propagandistic purposes. Mappery does contain, however, a few problematic political maps, such as the “Real Map of South Asia” posted here. This map not only appends all of Kashmir to Pakistan, a common and understandable maneuver, but also includes other parts of India in a future enlarged Pakistan." - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ from Bookmarklet
"Such mapping is part of an established “greater Pakistan” cartographic genre, a few examples of which are included in the second illustration posted here. Some of these maps entail merely the hoped-for annexation of India’s portion of Kashmir, whereas others call for the addition of part or all of Afghanistan, as well as part or all of India and even Sri Lanka. Fantasy knows few bounds... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
"Not all maps that purport to show “real” or “true” geopolitical conditions, however, necessarily fall into the propaganda category. Mappery’s “True Map of Azerbaijan,” for example, shows the area that Azerbaijan does actually control, rather than the area that its government, and the internationally community, regards as its legitimate territory. Still, it is impossible to avoid... more... - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
That's reminds me. There's this Bollywood movie I want to watch, just for the storyline. I have no idea if it's any good. It's called Joker. The village had the distinction of housing the largest mental asylum in the region and... more... - Betsy #TeamMonique

CNN Quits Breaking News, Becomes "CNN Classic" : The New Yorker | The Borowitz Report [Satire]
"NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—In a sweeping format change that marks the end of an era for the nation’s first cable news outlet, CNN announced today that it would no longer air breaking news and would instead re-run news stories of the past “that we know we got right.” The rebranded network, to début nationwide on Monday, will be called “CNN Classic.”" - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ from Bookmarklet
“Breaking news is hard,” said the newly installed CNN chief, Jeff Zucker. “You have to talk to sources, make sure their stories check out O.K., and then get on the air and not say anything stupid. I, for one, am thrilled to be getting out of that horrible business.” CNN Classic will begin its broadcast day on Monday, Mr. Zucker said, “with round-the-clock coverage of Operation Desert Storm.” - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
"Mr. Zucker did not indicate what impact the new format would have on such CNN stars as Wolf Blitzer, saying only, “I can’t promise that Wolf will be a part of CNN’s future, but he will continue to be a big part of our past.” The CNN chief scoffed at reports that other cable news outlets had eclipsed his network once and for all, throwing down this gauntlet: “We are going to win May sweeps with Hurricane Katrina.” - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
We got snow overnight. There's about an inch on the deck railing, which isn't as bad as they predicted. Plus, the weatherman was off-target as far as when the snow would switch to rain. Instead of cloudy and rainy all day, we've got sunshine! And it's melting the snow! Winter might have to loosen its grip after all!
But it could all change by this afternoon. #obligatoryweatherpost - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Heard this morning that they're calling for potential of a foot of snow out by my relatives in Duluth/Superior. That's nuts. - DAMMIT, MR. NOODLE
The Twin Cities are just over an hour away and they're supposed to get 2-3 times as much as we are. Also, I shouldn't have tempted fate with the original post, because the clouds have moved in with a vengeance! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
In the past 30-40 minutes it has been sunny, rainy, snowy, sunny, sunny and snowy, snowy and rainy, and now it's sunny. The wind is one of those "rip your car door out of your hand when you open it to get out" kind of winds. Brrr. - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Criminy, we're likely to break the record low temp for this date overnight. The current record is 19°F and has stood since 1897. The forecast is for a low of 17°F tonight. Hopefully we won't break this one again during my lifetime! PLEASE! My heating bill is going to be as high in April as it was in February! - Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
